The next day Scott is waiting for Peyton and her cop friend to arrive in the park they assume the burner phone to be.
"Where do we start?" Peyton asks when she and a young man in uniform arrive.
"I've had a look around and the most likely place he could've tossed the phone would be this." Scott says, motioning to a row of thick bushes with firs behind it.
"Any way to narrow that down sherlock?" She asks somewhat disappointed.
"I'm pretty sure it must be around here somewhere. Why don't we take different parts? Searching with six eyes is faster than with two." Scott tells them.
"He's right. Why don't..." Peyton tells her cop friend.
"How about you search right here and the two of us take the edges and move in." Scott suggests.
"Fine." Peyton replies and tells her cop friend to start looking at the other side.
"Remember you owe me a date for this." The young man says, shooting her a hopeful smile.
"Are you sure you can't narrow it down any further? It's still a pretty big area." Peyton asks Scott once her friend is gone.
"Just look straight ahead." Scott tells her, hiding his disappointment at her and the officer's date.
About 5 minutes into looking through the bush, which is painful, despite wearing a thick jacket and jeans she hears two old women chat.
"What's she doing in that bush now? I much preferred that young man in the morning. Talk about eye candy." The one woman says.
"Yes. I wonder what's so interesting about a bush." The other woman replies.
The gears click in Peyton's brain so to speak and she looks around invigorated, assuming Scott meant for her to find the phone and rightfully so as she finds a broken in half flip phone not far behind the bush.
"Josh! Scott!" She shouts, calling over the two men and the police officer, wearing gloves picks up the phone, bagging it.
"I'll bring this to the tech guy and register it as evidence in the case."
The officer now known as Josh tells her.
"Remember. I'll pick you up at 7." He tells her before fighting his way out of the bush.
"You found it earlier, didn't you?" Peyton asks.
"Maybe I did see a phone on the ground but maybe I also forgot where it was." Scott replies, heading to the prickly exit with her and pulls aside the bush for her as best as he can, letting her through with much less difficulty than he has seconds later.
"Thank you. I needed this win." Peyton thanks him, caressing his cheek instinctively and rubbing away some of the dirt and leaves on his face.
"Don't you want to reserve that for your date? And for that matter don't you kind of hate me?" Scott asks her, searching her eyes for a sign.
"Come on, it's not like I want to go on that date, but it was the easiest way to get him to come down here." Peyton tells Scott, starting to walk through the park with him.
"And I never said I hate you. I... I really don't know how to feel about you. It's like I have two people inside my head. The woman and the a.d.a. The woman says that I want to get to know you and the a.d.a. in me tells me to keep my distance from you." Peyton tells him.
"So, I'm guessing this is the woman talking." Scott chuckles, the two almost touching shoulders. With so little distance.
"Probably." Peyton agrees.
"Look, I know this isn't fair to you. I mean you saved my life twice and I'm trying to accept you know... you, but it's just difficult for me." Peyton tells him, looking at him.
"I know and don't worry. I'm not expecting any kind of reward. I just wanted to help." He tells her, returning the gaze and rubs her upper arm comfortingly.
"Anyways, I think you probably want to get a move on and show your roommate up." Scott tells her smirking.
"I don't get it, I thought you and Liv were pretty good friends? Why risk that for the girl who all but got a restraining order against you." Peyton asks.
"Liv was in the wrong here. And deep down she knows it. At the moment she just has trouble expressing herself. And we're not that close of friends." Scott says.
"Really? I... a birdie told me that she came over to your apartment not that long ago and was making moves on you pretty hard." Peyton says.
"She told you huh? I'm guessing that she left out that I shot her down. I mean I could imagine going out with her sometime, but I'm not looking for a fling." Scott tells Peyton.
"I see. Well, I have to go now." Peyton says and heads to the police station, receiving the confirmation on the evidence just as Liv and Clive were interrogating the suspect.
"Don Watts. I'm Peyton Charles, a.d.a. I'm here to offer you a onetime deal. Sign a confession and you will get 15 years for each murder. That still gives you a few good years on the outside. I'm telling you, if you don't sign. You'll never breathe fresh air again." Peyton says, all but storming the interrogation room.
"And why would I do that?" Don asks cockily.
"We found a cellphone. The very same cellphone that called you three times last week. And once we get a connection to our hitman we have enough evidence to take this to court and win." Peyton answers.
"You're bluffing." Don says shaking his head.
"Are you sure? You must have heard something over the phone right? He was in a park near a church when he called you." Peyton says.
"I... " Don says and gulps, taking the pen and signs the confession once he recalls hearing birds and church bells during the conversation.
That evening Peyton went on her date with Josh and the two exit the restaurant.
"The night's still young. Do you want to come over for a drink?" Josh asks her as the two stroll to their cars.
"I had fun Josh, but I don't think a relationship is really in the card for us at the moment." Peyton tells her friend sweetly.
"I get it. You're going out with that other guy aren't you? I had the feeling the two of you were too close." Josh says nicely.
"We're not... not really. He likes me, but I'm not sure yet if he's right for me in that way." Peyton says awkwardly.
"If you say so." Josh replies chuckling and unlocks his car, waving good bye.
Peyton then drives home and finds a sad Liv tearing up while replaying the video of Major kissing another girl she found yesterday.
Peyton discards her thoughts of rubbing it in Liv's face, that she found the phone and instead joins the pale girl on her bed, Liv lying her head against her shoulder saddened.
"I'm sorry." Liv chokes out while leaning against Peyton.
"It's OK. I get it, you were focusing on work to shut off your emotions." Peyton replies, rubbing Liv's scalp comfortingly.
"Maybe." Liv admits, closing the laptop with the video.
"It'll be fine. You'll find someone else." Peyton tells her.
"What about you?" Liv asks.
"What about me? I'm in favor with the d.a. again if you were asking about that." Peyton.
"That's great, but I wasn't." Liv answers.
"Alright. I have to confess something. I followed you the other day." Peyton admits.
"Followed me?" Liv asks nervously.
"When you and Scott drove to his house. I don't even know why. I want it to be because I was worried about you, but lately... I'm not so sure if that's the reason." Peyton admits.
"Why else would you follow us?" Liv asks, relaxing since her friend hadn't seen her eat brains.
"Maybe there is something between me and Scott, no matter how hard I try to deny it." Peyton replies confused.
"You do know about his... condition, right?" Liv asks, looking at her friend.
"Yes. And I've also learned that he's actually a genuinely nice guy. His past brushes with the law are almost all because he was trying to help. If Deaton was being truthful." Peyton answers.
"I think he's nice. So what's holding you back?" Liv asks.
"I don't know. I think I'm just afraid of him." Peyton confesses.
"Why? Didn't he save you?" Liv asks surprised.
"You didn't see how." Peyton sighs.
"Actually I did. Ravi and I did examine the bodies." Liv replies.
"Be honest Peyton. What outcome would you have preferred? If he was human, he wouldn't even have been able to safe you from that sleazy bodyguard who tried to rape you, let alone survive the 4 armed goons who were out to kill you." Liv says.
"I know, but I just can't get that image out of my head, Scott's mangled legs, his shredded back. Watching him get shot through the heart. And him falling over, blood soaked and with half his body riddled with bullet holes." Peyton says shivering.
"Do you blame him for changing your view on the world?" Liv asks.
"I think so." Peyton admits.
"Why were you so OK with it?" Peyton asks her, pulling her legs up on the bed.
"I doubt after the boat party anything will really scare me again." Liv answers.
"What happened between the two of you anyways? Do you like him?" Peyton asks.
"No. I mean he's a friend and I just wanted to be close to someone again, but I just embarrassed myself." Liv tells her.
After a long silent pause, the two girls snuggled against each other Liv says,
"Go to him."
"And say what? Hey, sorry you almost got killed for me and I'm still not sure how I feel about you?" Peyton says sarcastically.
"No. Just be honest and tell him that you do like him, but his 'other side' scares you." Liv tells her.
"And what's that going to accomplish? He is who he is, isn't he?" Peyton retorts.
"At least you will know you made an effort." Liv says shrugging.
"You... you're right. Thank you." Peyton says and hugs her friend before getting off the bed and leaving her apartment after getting her coat.
15 minutes later she' sitting in her car, watching Scott walk around his apartment through his window.
"Come on Peyton, you can do this." She tells herself, taking deep breaths and gets out of the car, heading to his door and knocks on his door.
Scott opens the door and looks genuinely surprised at her late-night visit.
"Peyton. Please, come in. Is something wrong?" Scott asks, opening the door for her.
"No. I just needed to see you." She replies.
"Alright. Have a seat. I'll get you some water." Scott says, offering his couch while pouring two glasses of water for them.
"So, why are you here?" Scott asks, sitting down on a chair he pulls over from the kitchen table and hands her the water.
"I was just talking with Liv. And we started talking about you." Peyton says, taking a sip from the glass.
"She asked me what's holding me back." Peyton says, putting a hand on top of his.
She looks up to him and sees him returning the look with his kind brown eyes.
"I'm scared." She says after a long pause.
"Of me?" Scott asks knowingly.
"Of that part of you. Yes." Peyton replies.
"I understand. Sometimes I scare myself." Scott tells her.
"Why?" She asks.
"I'm just a totally different person than before. In the past I was asthmatic, uncoordinated and had nothing to worry about. But after everything I went through it's like I'm constantly afraid what is going to be a danger next. The hunt or another werewolf or the hunters. It's like ever since the bite I have to sleep with one eye open and I know that will never change." Scott confesses tiredly.
"Show me again." Peyton says softly.
Scott looks down for a second or two, before raising his head again, deep red eyes looking into hers with sideburns framing his face and a broader forehead.
"That doesn't look so scary anymore." Peyton says to herself, exploring his face with her hands, Scott relaxing into her touch.
"Scott. I..." Peyton stammers, sliding forwards on the couch, her hands, drifting to his now pointy ears and she kisses him while he drops his shift.
"What was that?" Scott asks raspily, their faces mere inches apart.
"That is me giving this a try." Peyton tells him, her hands going through his hair.
"Are you sure? I don't want you to do this because you think you owe me." Scott tells her, his free hand rubbing her leg gently while he's putting down his glass on the table between them.
"I think I've shown you that I don't feel like that when I asked you to leave me alone over and over." Peyton says, getting up from the couch and straddles his lap, looking down at him longingly.
"This is all a bit sudden." Scott says, lifting her off and standing up, bringing both of their glasses to his sink.
"Do you not want to try this anymore?" She asks him disappointed.
"No, that's not it. I just don't want us to jump into something we're both not sure what to expect from." Scott says, joining her again and rubbing her hand.
"I guess that's a fair assessment." Peyton agrees, the two sitting back down on the couch.
"I am really happy that you told me all this." Scott thanks Peyton, playing with her fingers.
"Me too. But... now what, it's kind of awkward now isn't it?" Peyton asks chuckling quietly while leaning into his shoulder.
"A bit." He agrees, putting an arm around her.
"I'm really glad we met that time at the haunted house." Scott says.
"Why? I shot you down hard." She asks laughing.
"Yes, but if we hadn't met I might not have known you were being kidnapped in the parking structure. And I would have hated it if something had happened to you." Scott says, rubbing her shoulder softly.
"Do you mind if I stay over? It's kinda late to drive home." Peyton asks.
"The bedroom is all yours." He tells her, kissing her temple.
"Thank you. For everything." She says after the two get up.
She then kisses him passionately, Scott holding her at her waist while Peyton is exploring his strong back.
After the intense kiss she goes into the bedroom and closes the door behind her, leaving Scott to look at the door for a while before flopping down on his couch.
