Summary: Suggestion from pxaviercm. Takes place the day before Dick and Zee officially got together, so in January of 2012.

Did I do something wrong?

Zatanna watched as Artemis and Wally made out, and she couldn't help but think that Dick was avoiding her. After working up the courage for the better half of a year, she had finally grabbed the Boy Wonder by the arm and pulled him over to smack her lips onto his at the chime of New Year's. It was the first kiss of her life, and she was beyond overjoyed to be sharing it with Dick of all people. She didn't think he would be mad or anything, he was always so friendly with her and their bond was undeniable. He even revealed his identity to her back when she first moved into the cave! Artemis had teased her about her schoolgirl crush on Dick endless times, just as Wally had done the same to him. She really thought there was something there, she hoped there was because it was her wildest dream, but seeing as how the Boy Wonder had avoided all contact with her, and the whole team with the exception of Wally, Zee was beginning to think she had overstepped by kissing him.

Unbeknownst to her, Dick was beyond enthusiastic about the kiss, and he was praying that it wasn't just for the sake of New Year's tradition and that she actually wanted to be with him. It was only a shame that he was held up with the Joker, because had they had this conversation earlier, they would have both cut past a lot of drama. She wished she could just call him, but the only person on the team with his number was Wally, for secret ID purposes. She was too afraid to ask him for his number, thinking that it might be a bit awkward to do so, and she didn't want to talk to him through his best friend, so waiting was the only option. Wally says he's busy, but he's Robin. He has my number already, judging by his Bat-skills. Why isn't he calling me? God, he's really upset, isn't he?

Zatanna plopped down next to Wally and Arty, who had broken off and were watching TV. Arty changed the channel randomly, and Zee's eyes widened as the very boy who was taking up all her thoughts was now on the screen. The Dynamic Duo were being caught on live TV battling Joker's thugs, headed by Harley Quinn. Zee watched as Dick effortlessly flipped through the air, knocking Quinn out and tying her up as his mentor took on the thugs. Kill me. Now. Zatanna bit her lower lip while staring at Dick, and Arty noticed this, unable to hold back the smirk. They finally finished with the goons, and an annoyed Dick grappled away as Gordon arrived for cleanup, leaving Batman behind. Wow. He really is pissed off. God, what have I done?! I ruined any chance I ever had of getting with him by rushing things, AND I might've just messed up our friendship! In reality, Dick was annoyed because it had been almost 2 weeks and Bruce wasn't letting him go to the cave to talk to Zatanna until Joker was dealt with. Of course, Zatanna didn't know any of this, and so she stood up and rushed out of the room to break down in private, trying her best to ignore Connor and Megan making out in the kitchen or Kaldur and Raquel kissing after a sparring match in the training room on her way to her quarters. The smirk immediately left Artemis as she ran after her, worried for her best friend. "Zee?" Zatanna shut the door behind her, and immediately started to let a few tears fall as she collapsed on the bed. God, I'm such an idiot! Why did I ever think someone as amazing as Dick would ever be into a freak like me?! Artemis opened the door to her room and rushed over to the bed, placing a hand on her shoulder and letting Zee hug her for comfort. Normally this was Dick's job, but right now, he was less so the reason for Zee to stop crying and more so the reason for her to actually be crying. "Hey, hey, talk to me. What's up?"

"G-god, what d-did I do?!"

"What? I-is this about Robin?"

"Y-yes! I ruined e-everything! God why did I k-kiss him?!" Arty rubbed circles on her back, very reminiscent of what Dick did whenever she would come to him with a nightmare or something, and that familiar sense of comfort seemed to calm her down enough to the point where she pulled her head out of Artemis's lap and wiped her eyes so that she could see clearly.

"Listen to me, Wally told us that Rob's just...busy. You saw him, he has to deal with Joker! It's not that he's avoiding you. Trust me, that's not it at all. Batman's just not letting him come here." Zatanna sniffled.

"Th-then why isn't h-he calling?" Arty sighed.

"That, I don't know. He's kinda an idiot, but what can we do?"

"Wh-what if he d-doesn't like m-me in that way? Wh-what if I just ruined things for us?" Artemis chuckled a bit before speaking.

"Zee, Rob is head over heels for you. He's just as crazy for you as you are for him. Trust me, you may not be able to see it, but he's definitely into you. He kinda always has been. You remember when he rushed forward to meet you when you first came? Literally shoved M'gann to the side to see you." Zee giggled a bit as she wiped her eyes.

"S-so much has changed since then. Wh-what if he just doesn't like me?"

"Then I'll help you through it, promise. But he does like you, Zee, I, and pretty much everyone else, know that for a fact. You just have to wait for him to tell you himself." Zatanna nodded and smiled before hugging Arty.

"Thank you, Arty."

"What are sorta-sisters for? You gonna be okay?" Zee nodded, and Artemis smiled before leaving. Zatanna wiped her tears and lay back on her bed. Though Artemis's words did help, they did little to calm her down. She was in love with Dick and she knew it, the only question ringing in her mind was whether or not he felt the same. God, please, Dick. I know Fate hates me, but if he could just let me have this one good thing, it could all be okay...

MANY years later, Zatanna Zatara-Grayson panicked as she helplessly ran around the kitchen trying to properly cook spaghetti for her date night. Dick was definitely the cook in their house, Alfred had taught him quite well, but he had taken a bullet through the shoulder, not as Nightwing but as Detective Grayson. She was most definitely not letting him cook for her tonight, but she wasn't the most qualified in the kitchen herself. She refrained from using magic, because she really wanted to impress Dick with her pure skill the same way he could impress her, but it was easier said than done, even if she was following the recipe to a tee. Zee finally managed to finish the meal, and she poured a bowl for herself and Dick as she set up the table for them. THAT I will use magic for. Her husband, God even after 3 years it felt weird to call Dick that, walked in and smiled at her. He tried the food, and she mentally prepared herself for him to spit it out.

"Zee, this is amazing. You did this with no magic?" Zatanna smiled at him before nodding.

"It's undercooked, right?"

"No, it's great!" Zee didn't know what to say, so she just leaned in to kiss him. They broke off, and she took her seat next to him to start her own meal. As she stared into his cyan eyes, she thought back to that night, over thirteen years ago, when she was having a mental breakdown because she thought she had messed things up with Dick. Looking back at it now, and staring into the eyes of the love of her life, she realized how silly she was being and couldn't help laughing a bit at her old self. Dick cocked an eyebrow, confused. "What's so funny?"

"I'll tell you afterwards." He smiled as they continued their meal and talked to each other about their team's last mission, Damian considering moving into Titans Tower to live with Rachel, and Tim having bought an engagement ring the other day for Cassie. However, as the conversation went on, her mind drifted back to the teenage breakdown she had all those years ago, and she knew it was silly because looking at her life now, she had no doubt in her mind that there was nobody in the entirety of the multiverse she would rather share her home, her life, and her heart with.

I hope this is what you wanted out of the chapter suggestion. I enjoyed writing this one quite a bit, and I don't normally end with something like what I did here, a time-jump to the future, but I kinda thought it would be a nice idea for this chapter.
