Chapter 7
Pregnant
Over the next few days, Elsa continued to feel worse. It seemed like throughout the day; she had some kind of sickness. Whether it was vomiting, an upset stomach, nasal congestion, it seemed like she had it all. On top of that, her breasts felt very swollen. The signs started to add up pretty quickly, the idea of what it could possibly be, was becoming harder to ignore. At Anna's request, Elsa agreed to see a doctor. After running several tests, the doctor approached Elsa with the news.
"Well, Queen Elsa, you are indeed pregnant," he said.
She heard the words, but they didn't hit a good note with her. A wave of shock overcame Elsa. She could feel her powers bubbling up inside of her, ready to explode. It took every bit of strength that she had to repress them. Elsa looked down at her stomach. She put a hand over it, thinking about how it would soon grow bigger. In her womb, she was carrying the child of the man who viciously raped her. The thought caused Elsa to throw up, not surprising the doctor. He knew about what had happened to Elsa, so the shock of the pregnancy was understandable.
"I know this is hard for you to hear, Queen Elsa," he said.
"No, you don't!" Elsa shouted, causing a sheet of ice to cover the walls and ceilings. "I'm pregnant with that monster's child!"
"You're still in your first trimester. We can remove the fetus if you wish. It's your call."
Almost instantly, Elsa wanted to say, yes. She didn't want this vile parasite living off of her! It was a constant reminder of the horrific deed that was done to her. But before she spoke, she then thought back to what she was taught about the procedure known as "abortion" growing up. In the kingdom of Arendelle, abortion was usually frowned upon. To take the life of an unborn baby was considered to be murder, especially since the baby didn't do anything wrong. Elsa had heard of women undergoing such procedures after being raped, but she had also heard of the complications that sometimes arose from them. Sometimes women died from them. It was a dangerous procedure, especially since it involved entering the body the remove the fetus. What if she died from one? Elsa put her hand back on her stomach. In doing so, this time she felt an unexplainable feeling within her. Even though this child was also the child of Stefan, she felt some sort of connection to it. The idea of caring for it seeped into her brain. Was this what a mother's instinct felt like?
"If you need some time to think it over, I understand. It is a big decision, after all," the doctor said.
Anna and Kristoff came into the infirmary soon after, where Elsa revealed the news. Needless to say, both of them were shocked.
"Elsa! I can't believe it," Anna cried.
"It's hard to put into words," Kristoff agreed.
"It's quite a shock," Elsa said.
"What did the doctor say?" Anna asked.
"He told me about a surgery to remove the baby, before it develops any further," Elsa explained.
Anna knew what she was talking about, and even though she was personally against abortion, after what her sister went through, she was willing to make an exception.
"So, are you going to do it?" Anna asked.
"I don't know," Elsa sighed.
"What do you mean?" Kristoff said.
"Elsa, you didn't ask for this. You didn't want to become a mother! Also, this is the child of the vile man who raped you."
"I understand, and I feel that way to an extent too," Elsa said.
"To an extent? You mean, you have other feelings about it?"
"This is Stefan's child, and it was conceived out of rape, but was it the baby's fault?" Elsa said.
Anna couldn't believe what she was hearing. Was Elsa really trying to justify all of this? She knew that Elsa had been damaged in more ways than one. After hurting Kristoff, Anna stepped up to the plate to have Elsa get more help than ever. Every day, she met with a counselor, spend time doing exercises designed to strengthen her, and even practiced meditating. The results were very conclusive. Elsa was beginning to heal, showing signs of the sister that Anna loved. Now, this was dropped on their lives. As Anna looked at Elsa, showing her surprise, Elsa responded.
"Anna, I haven't made a decision yet. I'm just weighing all the options," Elsa reassured. "Whatever I decide, I hope that you'll support me. It's my body, after all."
There was no arguing that. It was Elsa's body, so therefore it should be her decision. If Elsa chose to have the baby, it would dramatically alter all of their lives, but it should be respected.
"I'll support whatever you decide, Elsa. You're my sister, and I love you," Anna said.
"I will as well," Kristoff chimed in.
Elsa smiled at the two people she loved the most, bringing them both in for a hug. It was the first time anyone had seen Elsa crack a smile in months. The wounds were definitely beginning to heal.
Later that night, Elsa lie awake in bed. Her pregnancy symptoms were keeping her awake, especially the vomiting, but still, she couldn't help but ponder her choices. Should she have the baby? Elsa ran a hand across her belly, knowing how big it would get if she decided to have the child. In that moment, she thought of her mother, and what it must have been like when she was pregnant with her. Of course, those circumstances were drastically different. She had been conceived out of love; this child was conceived out of sick pleasure. The more she pondered her choices, the more tired she got. Soon, she drifted off to sleep, all the while keeping a hand on her stomach.
A/N: Do you think Elsa would make a good mother?
