"Break time young Midoriya." said All Might while walking towards a very tired Izuku, he was pulling a pile of junk with rope as part of his training.
"Bu-"
"No buts!" All Might cut him off, his hands on his hips. "While I like how determined you are with your training, I don't want you to overdo it. Understood?"
To that, Izuku let out a sigh of disappointment but he didn't argue with him, deep down he knew All Might was right. "All right…" Then he followed him to the entrance of Dagobah Beach where both sat down and All Might passed to Izuku a bottle of water and a towel. "Thanks, All Might."
"Don't mention it, kid."
After that a comfortable silence fell between the two, in their own thoughts. All Might watched the sky and just realized it is starting to get darker, time flies. Then his gaze went to the teenager beside him, it has been five months since he met him and started to train him to be the next wielder of One for All, and he has the feeling he made the right choice.
" It's not bad to dream. But you also have to consider what's realistic, young man ."
No matter how much he tells himself that is already past them, that Izuku probably forgives him, Toshinori Yagi still thinks that was one of his biggest mistakes.
And he wants to fix that, but doesn't know how.
"Em… All Might? There is something wrong?"
Izuku's voice pulled him from his thoughts, then he realized.
" Ah shit, was I staring too much? Quick, say something!" Then he said the first thing that came to his mind. "If you don't mind me asking, what's with that wooden cross necklace? Is always on your neck, are you christian?" he pointed at his own neck to emphasize his question. " Good job Toshi!" If he was being honest, he was curious too.
"Oh, this?" Izuku said while looking down and touching the wooden cross. "I'm not religious, thi-this is just a gift from a friend, that's all."
"Like, to symbolize friendship?"
"Yes… It was long ago, though." he said with a bit of nostalgia.
At that, All Might couldn't help asking "Mmm? Something happened?"
"Well… I don't know how to explain it…"
Now his curiosity was growing. "What if you tell me how you met in the first place?"
Izuku looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "Really?"
"Yeah, why not? Tell you what, you tell me about that friend of yours and I share one of my stories when I was in the United States, one I never said in any interview."
"Well…" It was a temptative deal, a story about All Might that nobody knows… "All right." At this, All Might smiled.
"It was when I was seven or eight years old…"
It was a sunny day over the city, birds chirping, kids playing in the park and…
"Ugh… it's going to hurt tomorrow, thanks Kacchan."
A little, green haired kid said as he was in the forest, sitting on top of a rock and trying not to cry due to what happened some moments ago.
He just wanted to play with them! But no, he has to be the villain again and beaten up again.
After what happened weeks ago in this same forest Kacchan and the others just seem to don't like him anymore, especially Kacchan.
Why? He doesn't know. He wanted to help him, that's all.
"Who cares? Not like I need them or anything." he said, crossing his arms, getting up from the rock and walking. To where? He doesn't know, he just wants to wander a little.
Of course, he will be careful and don't get lost, he doesn't want to worry and upset his mom.
And now he is thinking about his mom, she said something about some rumors of a voice coming from the depths of the forest, so he was told to be very careful if he ever is close.
"But what if someone is asking for help?" he asked out loud, a hero would answer any call of help, no matter how dangerous it looks!
Is what All Might would do!
"Well, I would do it, but a kid shouldn't wander in the forest alone just because he heard some sounds!"
"I was a kid, okay."
"Still is something you would do now." All Might thought.
With that in mind, our little hero ventures inside the forest.
Minutes in and he was starting to hear something but faintly, rather than a call of help it was some chant he would hear from a movie or tv show. A little fear started to grow in him.
But he doesn't dare to back down, a hero would never!
A little more and he could hear the voice clearly. It sounded like a girl? And who is that 'lord' he keeps hearing?
Finally he found the source of the voice, he took a peek while he was behind a tree, there in a little clear he could see a girl with hair made of vines sitting on top of a rock, dressing a cyan dress and holding some book she was reading out loud to some dolls and plushies in front of her.
He couldn't see her face since he was behind her. So he tried to catch her attention.
"Um…" was the only thing that came out of his mouth but did the job and she looked at him, at that moment he noticed the necklace.
"Hi-"
"AAAAH!"
"AAAAH!"
And both scared each other.
"Hahahaha! Cough Hahahaha!" All Might couldn't help but laugh at what Izuku just told him.
Meanwhile, Izuku just stared at All Might with a straight face, starting to regret this.
"All Might, please."
"I'm- hahaha sorry kid, it's just pfft too funny." Then he calmed down a bit. "Really? You scared each other? Talk about first impressions."
"Ugh…"
"So, what happened next?"
"Well…"
Meanwhile Izuku continues with his story. We will focus in the room of a girl living in another city, she was with two of her friends sitting around the table.
By mere coincidence she was recalling the same memories as Izuku while holding an action figure of All Might. It was one really special and it was not by the fact it was rare.
The other girls, Tsuki and Hana, couldn't stop laughing after she told them how she met the boy.
"It's ha-hard to imagine you being scared, Shiozaki-chan." Tsuki said, finally calming down.
"Yes, pfft you barely react whenever we watch a horror movie."
"It's not my fault that you two always pick bad movies…" Ibara defended herself. "Besides, I was a kid, of course that would scare me."
"But brave enough to go inside a forest by yourself." Hana said.
"Yes… Not the best idea I ever had, but then again I was a kid."
"So," Tsuki started, wanting to know more. "What happened next?"
"Nothing much, really…"
"Why were you spying on me?!" accused Ibara, pointing a finger to Izuku. "Dad told me those who do that are creeps, you are a creep! You should be ashamed of yourself"
"You're kidding, right?"
"I was a kid, okay?! And don't interrupt me!"
"Wait!" said Izuku, with both arms up. "I'm not a creep, I swear! I was just walking by, heard a voice and came here!"
Without changing her stance, Ibara just narrowed her eyes. "I don't believe you…"
"Is true! Besides, I want to be a hero, heroes aren't creeps."
"But you are."
"I'm not!"
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
And so they keep arguing back and forth for half an hour, then they just stare at each other.
"This is not getting anywhere." said Izuku, his face full of boredom.
"I agree with that…" Ibara trailed off a little, as if thinking about something, then smiled at her idea. "You want to play hide and seek?"
Izuku raised both of his eyebrows, surprised by that. "Really? You want to play with me?"
"Yes! I don't see why not. Oh," Ibara then stretched out her hand, still holding the book with the other arm. "My name is Shiozaki Ibara, nice to meet you!" She introduced herself with a little smile.
Seeing this, Izuku could only chuckle and shake her hand. "You are weird, my name is Midoriya Izuku."
After they let out the other's hand, Ibara said, "Well then…" And all of sudden she tossed her book at Izuku.
"What-" was the only thing he could say but still catch the book.
"For calling me weird, it's your turn to count." She said quickly and then started to run somewhere.
"That's not fa- Agh! Fine." Giving up, he used the book to cover his eyes and count. "One… two… three… fourfivesixseveneightnineTEN! Ready or not, here I come." Leaving the book on the ground, he went to find her.
And so, they play until sunset and become friends.
Again at Dagobah Beach, Izuku ended telling his story to All Might, who couldn't help chuckle a bit.
"That's so adorable, young Midoriya. It sounds like you two were great friends."
Izuku just smiled fondly while looking down and touching the wooden cross. "Yeah… we were always playing or pranking each other, even saying to become heroes together despite her knowing I was quirkless."
"That's wonderful! So… what happened?"
"...She and her dad have to move due to work, when she told me I… didn't take it very well…" Izuku admits, now his smile gone and face showing guilt. "I was mad, screamed at her, telling her that she never was my friend and ran to my house…"
Hearing that, All Might frowned his lips. "That… is not really good."
"Yeah… After I calmed down and talked with my mom, I realized what I did and I have to do something…"
Meanwhile with Ibara.
"Ouch."
"Yeah… that's not cool."
"Maybe… so before we moved…" Ibara continued.
Everything was already packed, the truck went ahead and the car was ready to go but they were waiting for someone to show up.
Ibara was waiting for Izuku, but he has yet to come.
"Ibara, dear-"
"Please, dad, he will come, I know it…" She said, her hand on the wooden cross hanging on her neck. Although her voice didn't sound confident.
"...I'm sorry, but if in ten minutes he don't show up we-"
"Wait!" They heard a scream, around the corner Izuku appeared running to their direction, followed by Inko who was short of breath.
He finally was in front of her, trying to catch his breath. One of his hands holding an All Might action figure.
"I-Izuku?!" Ibara exclaimed, surprised he was here, but quickly her face showed a little of pain. "I… I thought you wouldn't-"
"I'm sorry!" he said abruptly, bowing down. His action was so sudden that Ibara took one step back.
"Uh?!"
"I don't mean it! I'm sorry for getting mad, for screaming at you, for saying you weren't my friend… you ARE my friend, Ibara, you matter a lot to me I…" With every word, he was sobbing more and more, tears wouldn't stop coming from his eyes and his voice just cracked. "Please… don't hate me." Still bowing, he closed his eyes.
"I-Izuku… please look at me…"
With a little hesitation, he did what was told and saw why Ibara's voice was shaking.
She was crying.
Then she took two steps forward and hugged him, which he quickly welcomed.
"Of sniff course I don't hate you Izuku… I forgive you…" Ibara said resting her head on his shoulder. "You matter a lot to me too…"
"But I… I hurt you."
"I… Yes, that really hurt me, but…" She took him from the shoulders and broke the hug so she could see him face to face. "I knew you didn't mean it, and you are here now… and I'm happy for that…"
With that, Izuku was left without words and only could say, "I-Ibara…"
Then they hugged again, crying their eyes out while their respective parents watched happily.
Well, Inko was mostly in tears.
After a while they seemed to calm down a little bit, then Izuku remembered something.
"Oh, ri-right!" There was a hiccup, his eyes red. "I wanted to give this to you." Then he showed her the action figure he was holding all this time.
"Give it to- wait!" she said as soon as she recognized the figure. "That is not your favorite? One of the very first created? The… the one your father left to you. Are… are you sure you want to give it to me?" she then was surprised by Izuku just nodding without hesitation.
"I'm sure! Yes it is… very important to me, but with more reason I want to give it to you! It's a promise from me to you that we will meet again, that we will become heroes together." he said with a big smile, confident in his words.
Now it was her turn to feel speechless, so the only thing she could do was laugh. "Yes… yes, you are right… I want to give you something too." she said as she took off her necklace.
At first her dad was going to say something but chose not to, this was between them.
"This necklace is important to me, and that's enough reason to give it to you, it's a promise from me to you that we will meet again, that we will become heroes together." she repeated his words with a smile.
And there, a promise was made.
Back at Ibara's room, she ended with the story.
"That was so sweet!" said Tsuki, happy to hear they were good.
"Ye-yeah sniff it is…" Hana was sobbing, of the three she was the most emotional.
"Yes…" Ibara said as she caressed the figure with affection. "I have faith that we will meet again."
Back at Dagobah, Izuku ended with the story.
"I'm happy to hear that all was good, young Midoriya." All Might said as he ruffled Izuku's hair with one hand. "And who knows? Maybe you will see her again."
Izuku just chuckled, still with one hand holding the cross. "I hope so."
Then both of them look up at the now night sky, stars greeting them.
"I really hope so."
