I'm twenty one this year and you will probably guess my gender from reading my piece. I am a resident of good old Singapore which just hosted the starting of F1, a little island nation not quite marked on the globe. (Try atlases, you might get lucky.)and a student in one of the only universities in our island nation.

I like writing, reading, drawing anime, singing, dancing and such, along with playing playstation 2 and trashing bosses. Fanfiction oncein a while. I hoped you like my story.

I like Athrun, Yzak and Lacus ,Cagalli. Especially Athrun because of his strong character and the inability to lie and be cheeky. Yzak cause he's awkward in expressing himself but gentle.Kira and Shinn cry too much for my liking and the rest of the characters are a little better than cameos. I was disappointed with Gundam seed destiny's ending(Or the lack of it) and wanted to plan a gundam universe more likable.

Some anime I've watch and mangas I've read will fill this page twice over, So a highlight along with the more likable characters will be more appropriate.

Section one: Character Perception

About the story. Here's my perception of the characters involved.

Athrun- He's very analytical and is definitely a prodigy when it comes to battling tactics and escape methods. Maybe its because he watched Ramius too much whenever Archangel is in a rut, (worst ruts than Minerva). He's gentle, like Lacus says. Gentle and quiet soul. And very, very awkward at expressing himself. Losing his mother was percievibly the primary reason he joined the war for someone so peaceful. In seed, he fought because he believed, he betrayed his father because he believed. In the end he was willing to 'die to save the world' and revealed his moment of weakness, the moment only Cagalli was present to share. Perharpes only she was able to identify with his pain, first losing his mother, than seeing his father die right in front of him. Having his loved ones torn away from him one by one in the war. The best evidence is her telling him, "It probably hurts, because your own father hurt you."

Cagalli could understand the fact that its often the one closest one in people's life that can hurt them the most. This incident also revealed Athrun's bravery (Unfilial too, but well...) and upmost strength in his quiet character. At first he chose to self-destruct with the Justice because he felt it was the only way, andmaybe part of the reason was that he retained the 'Pride of Zaft', the suit goes, the pilot goes. It's like a mark ofchivary to die in a mobile suit. But I belive the fundemental thing is that he cannot forgive himself. When he betrayed Patrick Zala, it was betraying himself and his own reason for joining the war in the first place. Which was to protect what was left of his broken family. When Patrick was shot, Athrun somewhat believed its essentially his fault.

At first I thought it was kind of out of character for the calm and rationale Athrun to do something so rash and hasty (he was going to commit suicide right in front of Cagalli), but than again he must have been driven to desperation. He couldn't forgive himself for his own helplessness. He loved and didn't expect to be loved in return. Like he told Cagalli, "I'm so glad I met you." They hugged and they kissed. The most awkward thing about him is really his love life. Lacus to him, is like part of life. A nice piece of table ornament that ought to be well-preserved and cherished. Their 'date' was simple and almost like a routine, in a way, he accepted his fate that one day this pretty girl will be his wife and never resisted, proving that he was quite obedient to his the same time, he protected Lacus like a sister. He percieved Lacus as a simple girl and was utterly surprised later on...

Him and Kira, known each other since they were chickydees.Six, they studied on moon base till they were thirteen, parted and fought. In the whole story, Kira was the person who can read Athrun like a book. Their immaturity and indecisiveness led to the tragedy of Nicol and Tolle paying the price. But they forgave each other and started anew, they were once again roomates in the Archangel.

At that moment of contention one minute to self-destruct of Jarken Due, Athrun confronted himself and his own hurts. He's orphaned by war and understands the cruelty of war more than anyone else. The hurt was so great that he wanted release by ending his own life. But Cagalli told him 'To go on living is the greatest battle of all'. It helped him get over his most difficult moment and he was able to overcome himself. That's why our dear Cagalli is called the Goddess of Victory, because she saved Athrun. The stone lucky charm was something given to her by her father, and she gave it to Athrun(Wonder what happen to it in destiny...) Showing how much Athrun meant to her.

In destiny, the pairstarted out as body guard to politician. Athrun told her, 'I think you should wear a dress.' Really classic for the pair, but their relationship was stagnant due to the fact that bothplaced their responsibilities above personal happiness. Selflessness in other words. He dropped his suitcase when Luna told him. 'she got married', I pitied poor Athrun.But later he realised Dulliandal's intend and defected. (Blew up above sea level and survived, him hurt more badly than Meyrin. I think he pulled Meyrin away from the left side of the cockpit where Shinn stabbed in, that's why he looked like a mummy and was bedridden.) I liked episode 43, that was really Athrun, seeing Shinn was like seeing himself in the past, fighting out of hatred and exist only to kill. He desired to help Shinn, to help him get out of mindless fighting and think. He went out injured and was returned bleeding badly even though he won. I think all the suit names have meaning. He pilots Saviour because I think he's meant to be Shinn's saviour ultimately. Later saviour got destroyed and he takes over Infinite Justice, indicating a return to his former path.

At the end of destiny, he bacame smarter and used the flight pack as a nuclear grenade and destroyed the requiem with it. One other charateristic of Athrun was his love and talent of machines. The gun that he brought to the deserted island was his own( homemade), that's why only he knew it would explode upon impact and Cagalli who handled explosives all her young life didn't. Haro and Torri both have significant roles if not size. And above all, he's handsome and sweet looking, he smiles gently and sweetly like an idiot. But in the suit, all that was revealed of him was his mask, a warrior in battle. A soldier if nothing else, Miriallia coded him the Red Knight and it seemed to be universally accepted by the Archangel crew. I chanced upon the title The Prince of Zaft online, and I thought it was cheesy but apt. I liked it.

And I found a song that describes the relationship between Athrun and Cagalli very well. (A choral piece one of our competitors sang in Australlian music festival)

I never made promises lightly

And there are some that I have broken

But I promise in the days still left

We will walk in fields of gold... (It means barley, crops, grassland. Get the picture?)

Yzak- I wanted him to be the second main character. He appeared in both seed and destiny(Cameo), and a drastic change was seen in his character. But one thing didn't change, he's like ice. Silver hair and blue eyes, the cool colour combination, he looked like a clone of his mother except he's male. In the beginning of seed, he's immature and rash, he flares his temper easily. Poor Athrun and Nicol have to withstand his tsunami of causticremarks when he's in bad mood. He hated naturals, just like Dearka so the two of them build up friendship from there. Towards Athrun, its like a competitor, but Athrun takes it with a cup of tea, he usually ignores the death glares coming his way. He hated Kira, because he was defeated before. It wounded him and his pride. But after becoming a captain himself he seem to have grown and understood the things of the world. Especially when he shouted, "Justice, Freedom, get out of the way. Genesis is going to fire!", it showed that he forgave both Kira and Athrun and didn't want them to die.

To his mother, he's a boy. Upon meeting, he wanted to tell his mother to stop. But she gave him a peck on the cheek and assured him she'll post him some where safe, not giving him a chance to say what he really wants. It shows the lack of communication perhapes. She was blamed for the Jarkin Due battle and was removed from post. Yzak took a place in theCouncil instead. It was never explained why, but for Yzak who's the type who hate hypocrisy and such, he's not likely to allow himself to get involved in politics. I figured something went onbetween the Council and him. Maybe it was the term for release for his mother, or a lighter sentence. Nothing was mention about his father though, maybe he died when Yzak was young, or he never existed(There seem to be alot of single parent among the senators...) So Yzak had to play the role of both father and son in the family, constituting to his erm, unkind demeanor.

Like I say, he's like ice. It was hard to get near him, he does not open himself up to other people easily. Aloof, maybe even more awkward in expressing what he feels than Athrun. He just taks funny, like the scene in Destiny where he was goin to launch to destroy the relay point. Normal captains will go,"Let the vessel stay somewhere safe, avoid the frontline." He went, "Don't go out there, you'll just getyourself killed." I thought that was very Yzak. In destiny he was placed in the position of leadership, and was a council member at the frontline. (Odd combination) He was the youngest member of the Council, (not the superme) and he still liked scolding people. Maybe he'll grow into politics. To ladies, he's a newbie. The only lady on board Voltaire was Shiho, but nothing seem to be happen in the two years. Either he's just uninterested or he never thought relationships important. I think towards guys and ladies he has this tendency to behave differently, because he can't handle ladies and will run at the first opportunity.

Other characteristics other than bad-mouthing people was probably organisation. He will make a good leader once he calms down and stop scolding people. He's appearance probably make others feel insignificant, or too ugly to live. I think he's quite a neat person too, the most likely neatest in the foursome in the Le Crusade Team. From his parentage and the state of his room on the Nazca class ship, he's really neat. He'll appear more in the subsequent chapters. And go through ordeals which will reveal more about himself.

Sedna- Home-made character, The captain of Celsius and a fleet of ships, her full name is Sedna Ileisus, (the name exist-sumpah!) She's a calm cool type who maddens characters like Yzak, just because she's so unpredictable. She's 21, has long glossy black hair tied in a nice bun kept hidden beneath her captain hat. Her fringe flows down the left of her face, silver-streaked, I happen to like that colour combination. She's tall and lanky but doesn't dress up, she dislike dresses just like Cagallibut is actually a very feminine character. She has copper brown eyes (think iron oxide) and a slightly dark complexion.

Sedna was actually the name of a Inuit goddess of the sea and there was a really sad tale to her, but Sedna is like water, unpredictable, but just warm ehough to warm Yzak...

Think of her as a black widow spider, that's the most accurate thing I can say about her at the moment. She is decieving, and her type of character drives characters who like assuming like Athrun and Yzak, maybe a few more people over the edge. She's more mature than Yzak when I comes to relationships and immediately recognise what she feels towards people. And there is also a part in her past that she desperstely needed to get over, something Yzak might be ableto help with.She's a mad driver on the road and likes ice-cream. I meant for her to be like(what else) Sedna.

Sedna is the name given by NASA to the rock beyond Pluto, they haven't decided whether to call it a planet yet, so at the moment its just a named rock. See, Yzak is like Pluto, icy, rocky on the surface and virtually unbreakable. Its loop round the sun is oval and takes 279 years. Sedna is a rock, its loop is estimated to take about twice as long as Pluto but every three hundred years the two planet's gravity will align their orbit and they stay together for about one hundred years. (Just enough for a lifetime) That's Sedna for Yer...

Dearka- The happiest person who appeared to have existed in the whole series, he's an optimist, (Maybe he's been dumped one too many times) He has a father in council but so far nothing has been mentioned of his mother yet. But Dearka is positively vibrant. His piloting skills are so-so, and so is his relationship with girls.

Section 2: The fun

Qn to all Naturals out there, Do YOU wanna be a Coordinator?

Firstly, let’s talk…Coordinators before you make your choice.

What are they?

Well, recounting facts from both Seed and Destiny and with special reference to a not-so-friendly conversation between Chairman Zala and Chairman Clyne from Seed episode twenty or so, they can be effectively explained as a result of the finest of the human gene pool. They are pretty much the descendents of what we now call ‘designer babies’, pick a good egg, merge it with a good sperm and there comes a good baby. Mix Madonna and britney’s genes, and you get some one who’s pretty and can dance. Marry Charlotte Church to anyone from IL Divo and you’ll probably end up with a diva. But Coordinators go beyond that as they are effectively the personification of the Olympic moto, ‘Faster, stronger and higher.’

Coordinator boys are well, cool calm and precise, and they seem to mature pretty early, (I wish I can drive at sixteen) Their army is strong because of these strong but immature souls. In a way, the world as they know it made use of their innocence. They have weird hair colour otherwise unfathomable to the Natural community. (Apple green and midnight blue, goodness!) However, their seeming perfection has a very serious flaw mentioned in the talk between the Chairmen, (the little scene where they refer to Athurn and Lacus), Mr Clyne said that coordinators cannot exist away, or apart from Naturals because of their unnatural means of conception, leading to falling birth rates and the government imposing a law to a pairing up system, that’s why Lacus and Athrun are paired up since young. They are pretty evenly match at that, one a little princess, the other a little prince, both rich and gentle in demeanor. (That means Yzak and Dearka are both supposed to have a fiancé somewhere right? Shiho is one, what of Dearka’s?)

Two issues troubling the Coordinator nation and might result in impending doom, first the falling birthrates, and second, the third generation dies young. It’s pretty alarming to have twenty-year-olds dying of old age and dropping like flies on the streets. And this seemingly unnatural phenomenon can be explained by a little bit of biology. A very crude but apt example will be… the breeding of cows…(Don’t flame me now, I know it’s a little degrading but it can’t be helped! My favourite characters are Coordinators too-I can almost see Yzak coming at me with a Kantana…)

In modern farming practice, farmers will prize cows that produce more milk and will allow her to breed with a strong bull, their progeny will very likely have the same traits and allowed to breed within themselves again. Down the generation the milk production will increase but there will be an irrevocable decreased in fertility. And the cows will soon be unable to conceive, or likely have younglings that die prematurely or are born with birth defects. Primarily because this is after all, unnatural selection and it is nature’s way of stopping this extreme form of excessive inbreeding. At this point, the farmer will introduce another bull to the herd, and this act increases the variety in the gene pool of the ranch and increases fertility. And that is how farming practices have evolved to the point where profit and quality can be optimized. In this case, the ranch cows are the Coordinators, containing the finest of the human gene pool but unable to be self sustainable. They will die out soon. The second bull, will be like the Naturals, the thing that makes up the balance, and hence continue the existence of mankind in the Coordinator’s sense. Blue Cosmos goes, “For a blue and Natural world!”, they are partially right, but doing it wrong. One more generation down the road PLANTs will come begging for peace, (and genes…)
