Marilyn was shocked when Peter called out to her and there were two police officers at the door. She had done everything she could in the last twelve years to ensure that they both flew under the radar and attracted no attention. And yet here they were, two police officers at her door, talking to her son.

She was escorted off before she even had the chance to say goodbye and I love you – again – and the door closed on Petey's confused, scared face.

Now Marilyn was seated in a cold metal chair in an interrogation room just like the ones on TV. She thought about how Petey was always so inquisitive, always asking her if things he saw on TV were real, and now she had an answer for him and couldn't even tell him.

"Ms. Walker, it would be much easier for everyone if you just told us the truth," Det. Quinn said in her even voice.

Marilyn wasn't having any of that. She was beginning to get frantic. "I am telling you the truth! My boy is out there and alone, and he needs me!"

"Ms. Walker, we know that boy isn't Peter Walker. We just need you to tell us who he is. Please."

"No, that's my Petey! Peter Jeremiah Walker, born February 8, 1995."

"Ms. Walker, records from Philadelphia tell us Peter was born February 8, 1986, and died -

" - No no no no no no -"

"- In the fire at your residence on September 20, 1991."

"No! That is my Petey! I saved him - I'm a good mother!"

"Ms. Walker, I know this is hard. Losing your father, your sister, and your son all at once must have been so difficult. But you made another family go through that same pain when you - you took Peter, and we just need to know the truth. We just need to know what happened."

Marilyn shook her head and wouldn't look Det. Quinn in the eye.

Det. Quinn looked down at her notes. She had one more chance.

"Ms. Walker, do you remember September 20, 1999?"

Marilyn looked up and smiled softly, wiping a tear from her eye. "Y-yes," she breathed. "Of course I do. That's the day Petey and I made our new life. It's the day we left to move here."

Det. Quinn looked down again. That was as close to a confession as she was going to get for now.
