Chapter 13 (296 AC)

Kyra POV

Her husband's paramour screamed so loudly that Kyra thought Ellaria would faint. Kyra stayed by her side, gripping her hand tightly, while the midwives soothed Ellaria for her child's birth. Everyone believed it would be another girl since Oberyn had several, and they were sure that Kyra would have a girl too.

"Push!" The midwife ordered, forcing Ellaria to grunt in pain. "That's it. One more!"

Kyra looked back at Ellaria and soothed her by saying, "Keep going, Ellaria. She's coming!"

With one last agonizing scream, the midwife smiled as she caught the baby. Ellaria sighed and laid back down on the bed. She panted and her eyelids stayed open, refusing to shut as she gazed adoringly at her newborn. Kyra couldn't help but smile too as she watched the infant crying. All she thought about was having a child of her own with Oberyn. She wouldn't mind having a family with him, because she knew that her husband would be a doting father.

"It's a girl." The midwife smiled, which allowed Kyra and Ellaria to smile. "It's a beautiful girl."

They cut the umbilical cord and washed the baby in a basin of water to rid the blood from the baby's body. It refused to stop crying, but no one seemed to mind. They then wrapped her nicely in a blanket and handed her to Ellaria.

Kyra turned to the midwives and said, "Send my husband in here." They curtsied and left the room, leaving Kyra alone with Ellaria and her baby. "She's precious."

"Yes." Ellaria looked at Kyra's stomach and said, "You are not with child yet?" The smile on Kyra's face fell as she brought her head down and looked back at Ellaria. "It's alright. Soon you and Oberyn will have many."

Kyra eventually wanted children, and if she was with Oberyn, it was bound to happen soon. She just wasn't sure if she was ready to have a child, but then again, neither is anyone. She then imagined how her mother must have felt when she was pregnant with Kyra. She must have been so afraid for marrying and bearing a child at a young age, but she had a loving husband who supported her.

The door opened, and Kyra looked to see her husband. He panted at first, but his smile stretched from ear to ear as he made his way over to his paramour. He sat next to her and took his daughter.

"We shall name her Loreza." He kissed his paramour's forehead as he said, "You've done beautifully, my love."

"Ah, Oberyn. I don't think I can have anymore children after this one. It was difficult to bring her in this world."

His eyes were filled with sympathy as he spoke, "Then you don't need to worry. If you cannot, then it will be alright. We already have many beautiful daughters."

Kyra looked away, saying, "I'll give you both a moment."

The midwives bowed when Kyra passed them, watching her skirt trail behind her. She went to the main hall where Arianne was. The heir to Dorne stared at Kyra with a satisfied smirk. They met face to face, and all Kyra wanted to do was shove her away to clear her path.

"So the bastard is born?" Arianne asked.

"It's a girl."

She sighed to herself, replying, "No surprise there. He would have had a boy ages ago. I don't doubt you'll be the same."

Kyra took a menacing step towards her and said, "I don't care if I have ten girls. I know my husband will love them all, and so will I."

Arianne looked her up and down before saying, "I thought you Northerners care if you have a son."

"Well I also cared when I was betrothed to Oberyn or how my direwolf was mysteriously poisoned. I learned to appreciate what I have, and I suggest you do the same."

Her eyes narrowed dangerously yet her smirk remained. "You don't think I appreciate what I have?"

"I'm saying to never ignore the countless of men whose hearts you've stolen to go after one who belongs to someone else through their vows."

"Hmph." Arianne nearly twitched her lip, but her grin was still plastered on her face. "And what about you?"

Kyra took a deep breath to maintain her composure as she asked, "And what about me?"

"Oh nothing. I just think it's a shame how your husband can't just love you but others as well."

"He can be with whoever he likes."

"Really?" Arianne took her arm gently and grinned from ear to ear as she said, "All those women giving birth to so many of his bastards. It must be torturous to bear. That's why I know...you will never be enough."

Kyra's mouth slightly parted as she walked away, while Arianne stood there with glee.
