Ok so this came about as I kept seeing a few Jean and Massachusetts fanarts and they were quite good so I thought I'd try and write the two.
Massachusetts was quietly walking along the docks when she saw Jean Bart, Richelieu and Dunkerque chatting the latter two seemed in a heated discussion with Jean, given Jeans rather angry look, Massachusetts was about to turn away when Jean Bart noticed her, the battleship looked at her for a second before her face became a scowl and she stormed off with her sister calling after her.
Massachusetts let out a sigh, this wasn't the first time, she'd been trying to talk to the battleship for a while, but whenever she got near the blonde would storm off.
'I just want to talk.' Massachusetts sighed in her head.
"Massachusetts, are you ok?" Dunkerque sighed as she noticed her.
"Yes, I am, sorry I suspect I'm the reason Jean left you."
"It's ok." Richelieu sighed "We weren't getting far anyway."
"What were you three talking about it, it looked quite animated?" Massachusetts asked curious.
"You, actually." Dunkerque replied.
"Me?"
"Yes, we noticed how the two of you are, we were trying to get her to talk to you, but she immediately snapped." Richelieu said looking despondent.
'Do I really upset her this much?' Massachusetts thought to herself.
"I don't suppose you know why she's so set against you?" Richelieu asked.
"No, only thing I can think of is our battle at Casablanca, but I wouldn't have thought it would cause this much hostility." Massachusetts sighed 'Maybe I should just leave her be, I'm clearly not getting anywhere.'
"Would you be willing to try an idea I have?" Dunkerque asked.
"Is that wise?" Massachusetts asked, "I mean from the looks of it she doesn't want me around her."
"That maybe, but we are meant to be working together now, besides, you do want to get to know her, don't you?" Richelieu asked.
"Yes, she impressed me a lot at Oran, I'd like to duel her properly and get to know her."
"Well we can't let things carry on, if even from a tactical perspective." Dunkerque said "Ok. here's my idea."
(Next day)
"Are you nervous?" Richelieu asked as she sat next to Massachusetts. They were in one of the unused rooms in the Vichya Dominion and Iris Libre, each of the nations had been given their own barracks but given the Vichya Dominion and Iris Libre forces were so small they were bunked together and they still have many rooms left vacant.
"A little, I feel like I'm about to be stuck in a cage with a lion." Massachusetts replied looking at her hands "I wish I knew what about me was upsetting her."
"Don't worry, Dunkerque's plans are usually quite good, you'll be fine." Richelieu smiled.
"Thanks." Massachusetts smiled.
Just then a knock was heard at the door and Richelieu stood up and walked to the door and Massachusetts stood up "I'll be praying for you." Richelieu whispered before she opened the door.
"Hello sister, how are you?" Massachusetts heard Richelieu say as she opened the door fully.
"I'm fine, now what was it you wanted to see me about so…" Jean Bart said as entered only to stop when she saw Massachusetts, Jean made to leave but her sister managed to get the drop on her, exiting the room and shut the door, locking it on the way before Jean could escape, trapping the Jean and Massachusetts inside.
"Richelieu open this door right now!" Jean shouted as she slammed the door while Massachusetts just watched "This is not a funny joke!"
"Oh good, because that not what this is." Dunkerque said though the door "You need to sort your issue with Massachusetts."
"No I don't and I certainly don't need you two pulling a damn intervention on me either, now open the door!" Jean said slamming the door again.
"Not until you sorted this out." Dunkerque said "We'll leave you two alone for a few hours."
"Come back here right now and open this door!" Jean said with a third slam as Massachusetts heard the two outside walking away.
Jean slammed the door again in frustration before she gave up and stomped to the far end of the room and leaned on the wall crossing her arms. The white-haired battleship silently walked up to the bed opposite; Jean observed Massachusetts all the way like she thought she was about to pull a knife of the blonde at any moment.
"Erm…" Massachusetts began only for Jean to cut her off.
"Don't, I do not want to hear it." Jean scowled "I don't need you taunting me."
"Why would I do that?" Massachusetts asked confused.
"I said don't!"
"I was just going to say you look well, better then I first saw you." Massachusetts said and tried a smile but Jean just scoffed and looked away.
"Thanks I guess." The blonde grumbled "But that doesn't mean I'm going to talk."
"Well then they aren't going to let us out." Massachusetts pointed out.
"They need to open the door to check and then I'll just rush them." Jean said still looking at the wall to her side.
"Can't we just talk this out?"
"No, we can't!"
Massachusetts sighed as she sat on the end of the bed "I just want to get to know you, maybe be friends and maybe duel you properly now you're at full power."
"Oh, you'd like that wouldn't you, give you another chance to humiliate me again wouldn't it." Jean growled as Massachusetts saw her grab a fist full of her jackets sleeve.
Massachusetts looked confused at the battleship, trying to think of a time she might have humiliated Jean "When did I humiliate you?"
This seemed to get Jean to look at with an angry glare, as Massachusetts remembered what she was told by Dunkerque before "Try get her angry, she gets more honest then."
'Well it wasn't intentional, but that seemed to get her angry.' Massachusetts thought to herself.
"Oh great, not only do you humiliate me but you also can't even be bothered to remember, brilliant." Jean growled "Fine, since you don't remember, Casablanca, now do you remember?"
"Of course I remember Casablanca."
"Oh, good at least I know it wasn't forgotten among your many battle honours." Jean spat.
"Jean, I'm a little lost, how is Casablanca me humiliating you?" Massachusetts asked.
Jean glared at Massachusetts so much that the white-haired girl was sure Jean could drill holes in her head if she stared harder "I shouldn't be surprised you don't remember the details." Jean said moving off the wall and standing up.
"I remember you fighting very hard and with only half your fire power." Massachusetts countered "And I remember being very impressed with you."
"Oh save it, I don't want your false pity." Jean said through clenched teeth and dropping her hands to her side clenched.
"It's not false and it's not pity either." Massachusetts countered, only for the blonde to rush forward pushing her on to the bed and pinning them above her head.
"Yes, it is!" Jean shouted as she lay on top of the white-haired girl, "Just admit it, that's all I'm known for, pathetically armed, concrete for some of my armour, meanwhile you have it all, your beautiful, got all those battle honours, no one questions your ability, but they question mine, I'm seen a useless relic and I hate it!"
"Is that why you hate me?" Massachusetts asked in a whisper.
Jean dropped her head and let out a big sigh before she let go of Massachusetts wrists and stood up and then walked to the window her side to the white-haired girl, Massachusetts sat up only for Jean to speak in a whisper like voice "I don't hate you; I want but I don't; I envy you." Jean said though Massachusetts saw the blonde shut her eyes tight a moment.
"Having all those honours and awards aren't all that it's cracked up to be." Massachusetts said standing up "You take a lot of hits for your trouble, you yourself got a few good hits in that really hurt."
Jean smiled slightly before it dropped "I'm not really talking about the awards I just want to be seen as good, that's what I envy."
"You're strong Jean, I can see that and so does everyone else."
"Thanks but it doesn't help." Jean sniffed.
Massachusetts walked behind the blonde battleship before speaking "You took a beating from me and airstrikes yet your still standing, that's proof enough of how strong and sturdy you are and all your actions till now have more than proved your worth to your comrades and your former enemies." Massachusetts said before she spun the girl around.
"What…?" Jean said but was cut off by Massachusetts hugging her tight "What are you doing?"
"You don't need to be that sturdy all the time though, you can be a little bit childish and cry from time to time."
"I'm not going to cry!" Jean shouted though what surprised Massachusetts was that the blonde didn't try and force Massachusetts to let go of the blonde,
"Would you like me to let go?" Massachusetts asked as she looked down at the blonde and the white-haired battleship thought Jean did looked like a little girl for a moment.
"I didn't say that." Jean growled "I hate to admit it but I kind of like it."
"Well we can stay like this a little long if you want."
Jean didn't reply only sighing and resting her head on the whitehaired girl's chest. Massachusetts wasn't sure for how long the two stayed in their embrace, Jean simply remained quite and still the whole time and Massachusetts thought Jean might have fallen asleep she was so quite till the blonde moved her head off Massachusetts but didn't break the hug.
"Are you feeling better?" Massachusetts asked quietly.
"A little, I'm still ticked off." Jean sighed.
"I know, but maybe we could leave the whole hostility behind us?"
Jean moved out of Massachusetts's arms and the white-haired girl felt a strange tug as she let the blonde go, Jean turned her back and "Ok, but don't you so much as think about trying a redo of an introduction for us."
"Ok." Massachusetts said putting her hands up "How about something else?"
"Like what?"
"Well I said before, I have always wanted to duel you, now you're not down half your firepower, maybe we could have that duel."
"I'm not sure I like that idea." Jean said leaning on the wall next to the window, her arms crossed again.
"If you're worried what people might think, we can always make it private, just you, me and maybe a few select spectators, would that be acceptable to you?"
Jean put her thumb under her chin and thought for moment and Massachusetts thought the blonde was about to reject the idea "Ok, but just between us, no spectators."
"Really, you mean it?" the white-haired girl asked feeling overjoyed.
"Yeah…" Jean started only for the white-haired girl to walk right up to her again and hug her "Thank you." Massachusetts whispered.
"Hey, stop hugging me all the time!" Jean said but Massachusetts just kept hugging her "If you don't let go, I'm not going to duel you."
"Sorry," Massachusetts smiled as she separated from the blonde "I got a little excited."
"It's fine."
Just then the door opened and revealed Richelieu and Dunkerque looking at the two curiously "So you two sorted this out now then?" Dunkerque asked.
Massachusetts smiled "Yes, we are sorted now."
"That's a relief." Richelieu sighed "I thought we'd need to lock you two in overnight."
(Two days later)
"You ready?" Jean said as she stretched her arms out with her equipment at the ready.
"Nearly I was just wondering what happens if I win?" Massachusetts asked.
"Huh?"
"I was just thinking it would give us more reason if we got something out of this."
"Well what would you like?" Jean asked.
Massachusetts pondered for a second before a thought came to her head "How about if I win you call me by my nickname."
"What is it?"
"Big Mamie."
"No way am I calling you that." Jean scowled "Who even has a nickname like that?"
"It was just what they called me; would Mamie be better?"
"Fine, but only when it's just us, I'm not calling you that in public its embarrassing, so what if I win?" the blonde asked.
"Can you think of something?"
"There is quite a good bottle of wine I've been looking to get; you help me buy it sound fair?"
"That's fine I have no issue with that, now shall we begin?"
"Yes, now you'll see what I can really do." Jean smirked "You're not getting ahead of me a second time!"
"Look forward to it." Massachusetts smiled back.
And that ends chapter one, so let me know how you liked it, any criticism is welcome.
This will also be a multichapter story, though I'm not sure how often I will update, I have started chapter two though. And for those wonder who wins, well I'll let you make that up in your own head.
Also I should explain the reason I wrote that Jean is only known for Casablanca, is because of a group I'm in that talks about history and to begin with a lot of the group only knew Jean Bart fought at Casablanca and that's it, so this is where her only being known for that one battle came from.
