Here There Be Monsters

I thought I was halfway through this when I first started posting but then the story kind of kept expanding and now I'm positive I'm at most only a third of the way through with writing. The premise of this one is that Harry Potter is told his entire life that his father was a monster that had killed his mother. Upon hearing the story of Lord Voldemort he comes to the realization that his monster father is in fact the Dark Lord that tried to kill him when he was a baby. It's a fun little tale and I've been told by a couple of reviewers that Harry is rather cute in the beginning of the story, with his little schemes to help his father with world domination. Updates are sporadic at this point.

Orenda

This is a new AU that will have multiple parts posted. The premise is that the night that the Dark Lord comes to Godric Hollow with intents on ending Harry Potter, Lily calls upon a different type of Old Magic and devours the Dark Lord-- mind, body, and soul. As one might imagine, things kind of snowball after that. The story mostly follows Lily and what happens to the world due to this change and the actions that follows. There's really no pairings in this one and each chapter is rather small, serving as a glimpse into the world rather than a definitive narrative. There will be four parts, each with four chapters. The first one is almost done and I'm planning to finish the entire series before posting, but that also might change. Look forward to that

The Name You Earn

This is a rather odd attempt at a different writing style mirrored after another author on fanfic that I found some time ago. The premise of this story is Lucius Malfoy kind of loses his ever-lasting mind (not literally, but he's like my least favorite person in this series) and kind of raises Draco to be this army of one weapon capable of laying siege to the world single-handedly in an attempt to assure that the Malfoy family never gets subjected to the rule of another lord. (He does all of this under the assumption that Harry Potter is the next Dark Lord when he summarily defeats Voldemort as a toddler, a belief which I believe is cannon.) Draco doesn't look on him the fondest for his machinations and makes his own plans with Harry Potter at his side. This one is a non-explicit Drarry at the moment. Unsure how long it will be, but so far I have up until their fourth year written.

DRACO DORMIENS

The premise of this story is that Harry Potter is raised by Unspeakables after his survival of the killing curse as an infant. Which is rather unfortunate for the rest of the world, honestly. I really don't have much planned outside of the idea that birthed this story. No pairings at this time. This will be a three chapter story with sequels (at least one so far).

Mating Rituals of the Fae Folk Series

As I'm still rather interested in this idea, I've decided to post little fics set in this world to flesh it out more rather than commit to an actual multi-chapter fic. This is an AU where Harry, the Fae Prince, is "captured" by the Dark Lord Voldemort. Unbeknownst to him, the fae had allowed himself to be apprehended and has his eyes set on the mysterious Dark Lord's true name. Two sequels to this oneshot are in the works currently so keep an eye out for them!

Story Highlight

Starting this section where I pick a fanfic that I'm extremely invested in at the time and reviewing it for anyone interested to see. I'll add to it however the mood strikes me. Just know that I will give concise reviews and will probably reveal a lot about the setup for the fic in order to express why it should be read. But (hopefully) no spoilers!

To start things off I'm recommending One Touch by Xezo. The story opens with Harry feeling so encompassed with a debilitating rage that he beats someone into an unrecognizable mass of blood and flesh. So possessed by his own furry of retribution for a wrong done he feels no need to stop, even as it becomes apparent he can not define why such revenge was even necessary. The first moments are strangled with so much emotion as it washes over Harry that the reader follows Harry from his burning wrath, to a chilling fear, and then an astonished horror. The confusion continues to run high as it becomes apparent that this extreme violence was brought about in defense of Draco Malfoy who is desperate to protect Harry from the repercussions of what he has just done. Malfoy takes all blame, Harry nearly self-destructs with guilt, and the most obvious explanation to gathering any insight makes no sense. Harry being who he is can't stop himself from getting into the heat of things when it seems that Draco Malfoy is suffering without end unjustly and even the professors seem to be only making matters worse. This story goes into some dark corners as it follows very serious results of the Wizarding War that concluded in seventh year and how the events that transpired towards its conclusion are used as a brand in student life at Hogwarts. The author writes beautifully and concisely making the story an easy read with room to think and question. Although much of the story follows around Harry and uses him as the sole narrator, it is in no way lacking in the plot department and will leave you eagerly reading the next chapter. Don't forget to review as you go! Even a few words make a difference.

For anyone who likes Tomarry fics where Harry travels back in time and grows up with Tom Riddle (which has become something of a guilty pleasure of mine, I'll admit) this is a rather fun one. Per Tempus Discamus Amoris by greenisacolorto has been a recent read of mine I'm particularly fond of. The premise of this one is that upon reaching his age of majority Harry goes to Grimmauld Place and casts a charm to protect his new home from future attacks by Voldemort. For one reason or another, the latin instead of making his home safe, takes him to a safe place, which magic interpreted as being in 1930's London where he is quickly placed at Wool's Orphanage seeing as when he went back in time, he also regressed physically to the age of a four year old. He meets five year old Tom Riddle and after a rather interesting first meeting where food was involved (but not eaten, mind you) the two start a friendship that only grows stronger as they grow up and enter the Wizarding World. This story is rather nice for me as a light read because it doesn't overly emphasize the relationship between the two nor the fact that Harry is from the future (although it is mentioned a time or two). This means that the author instead develops the world around Harry rather than focusing on the Tomarry element or the Time Travel element of the fic. Although I don't mind when the relationship or a specific plot device is the major point of a story (and I've read a lot of fic that I enjoy this on) it is nice to read a well-written one that doesn't have this and yet still moves forward at a steady pace.
