Summary:
The USJ event was never something Izuku expected to deal with. Though, when a blue haired boy nearly runs over him on his afternoon patrol. Halo isn't sure what else to do other than to step in. A shadowy figure takes and interest in the boy, a mouse wish's to know more, and a pro hero is grateful.
Beginning Notes:
This chapter took a while to figure out, considering that a Spartan is incredibly capable though shock absorption ain't exactly something one can overpower easily... But as one would say "you should've gone for the head".
I've sort of figured out what I want to do for this fic, originally it was going to be five chapters, the first background, the second explanation, the third a shadowy figure, the fourth a interested mouse, and lastly a caring figure. Now though, I will likely add two more; one to introduce Izuku to 1-A, the other being a sort of epilogue.
Roughly six months had passed since Halo's debut among the heroes of Japan. He'd quickly risen to be one of the top heroes. Though not like that of Hawks or even one of the lesser-known top 20 pros. But he was known, and often featured on different new article covers.
Izuku as of course didn't know this, he wasn't allowed to consume media for the most part. His job was to protect citizens and train both his mind and body until he became number 1. No more, no less.
Though Izuku had noticed a shift in his handling, the doctors became less and less interested in his progress. Seeming to focus on something else, he hoped that they hadn't found another test subject, but he couldn't be sure.
His handlers had become rougher over time, treating him like some sort of caged animal that was forced to fight to not only improve but to survive. If he made a mistake out in the public eye, he would be reprimanded in training.
A mistake in training meant less time to his self and more time training. Though, Izuku swore he never received 'personal' time anyway.
He'd failed at times; it was a given for any hero. They would fail, though the best would get back up. For his failure the HPSC had threaten more augmentation, and more augmentation had come after his third failing. A young girl no older than three had died as he tried to save people trapped in a burning building. He hadn't been fast enough…
Izuku's mind seemed quirkier after the augmentation, like it was firing far faster than it should be, though his mind also seemed fogged, like memories were being zapped from existence. He wasn't sure what had been done, something new…
"Kurogiri, did you find any more information on this new hero?" Asked a man, cloaked in darkness, a face blank with nothing but a shadow cast over it.
"No sir, there seems to be no known information on the hero known as Halo. Unlike Hawks, it seems all information of who the hero was before his entrance into the Hero Public Safety Commissions protection is unavailable." The ghostly purple man voiced to his master.
"Hmm, how interesting. Keep an eye on him, report to me when you find anything of interest." The man nodded, and with that the TV screen flickered off.
"Can you believe he's a teacher now? What a joke… Hey Kurogiri?" Hands rested against the hardwood of a bar, ice shaking against the glass clicking as it did so. A blue haired man looked up towards the ghostly figure in question.
"What do you think will happen when the mighty Symbol of Peace is finally killed by the villains?" The bluenette asked, hands adorning his face as his red eyes gazed upon the ghost.
"I believe that the hero world will begin to unravel itself, though I do assume a pro will fill his place… Certainly though, the world will fear us." Kurogiri answered pouring a drink for himself as he looked at the boy.
"What did sensei want to know about that new hero." Kurogiri shrugged, he hadn't been able to figure that out himself. The two would eventually fall into conversation once again, drinking and conversing as they planned their attack against U.A. and the Symbol of Peace.
The day had been similar to any other day, the sky as blue as could be, the people milling about as usual without a care in the world. Izuku had been sent on patrol like any other time.
He'd been sent all the way to Shizuoka prefecture soon after the start of his patrol.
All Might had apparently requested backup around 10am claiming that he needed to get to his class. Which, while it wasn't a great excuse in Halo's opinion; it was good enough for the HPSC to allow the hero to take leave.
Izuku had cleaned up and dealt with police as All Might jumped away. Though something left a bad taste in the boy's mouth, something felt off. Not about the number one hero, more so about the day and possibly the area in which he was in.
If Izuku could describe what he felt it would be a potent lack of security and possible a small inkling of danger. His senses were blaring at him, something was wrong.
Though he wasn't sure what exactly was wrong.
Soon twenty minutes pass by and everything's too quiet, no more crimes had been committed from what he can tell, the HPSC hasn't relayed anything to him and none of the police had requested his assistance.
So, the forest green hero finds himself walking along the streets of Musutafu. A large glass building stood in the distance, its glass shining against the afternoon sun. Izuku couldn't help but wish to have attended U.A. it would have bene interesting for sure but now, now he wasn't hero material.
Sure, he was a hero but not by choice nor by proper means. He was more so a weapon than a hero. He still questioned the legitimacy and ethics behind himself.
Then as Izuku neared closer to the large building, walking amongst the crowds of people who were likely looking for lunch. He noticed something, a boy running faster than anything he'd ever seen. Halo's body whirled to action, jumping at the boy, pinning him against the roadway.
"AHH!" The boy yelled, arms already in a defensive position.
"Stop, what are you doing! This is unregistered quirk use, where is your hero mentor?" Izuku somewhat yelled, his voice horse and rough as he looked at the boy, his face filled with worry. He was far too young to be a sidekick and without an accompanying hero he'd likely committed illegal quirk use.
"Att-attack at the USJ, villains… Need to get to U.A. now!" The boy huffed out, his voice ruff and beats interrupted his sentencing.
"Villains attacked the USJ?" Izuku asked, brushing himself off as he reached down to pull the boy off the ground. The dark blue haired student nodded and began to run again.
"I'll have the HPSC inform U.A. I'll make my way there now. Go inform your instructor in case the HPSC can't get through." The boy nodded and once again rushed off towards U. A's main campus.
Worry soon settled into Izuku's mind, this was certainly bad. Villains attacking U.A… That wasn't heard of. U.A. was supposed to be the most protected school in the country and yet villains had managed to attack the USJ?
Izuku began to sprint, avoiding people as best he could as he quickly pulled up the HPSC's president's number. He'd never called her once in his entire existence, but he hoped she'd take the call.
Three ring and then the line was picked up. "Hello? Make this quick." Came a female voice from the other end of the line. "Hi this is the pro hero Halo; I have just received word that U.A. 's USJ center has come under attack. Madam president could you please inform principal Nedzu of these events?" There was silence from the other end of the line for a moment.
"Rig-right away, thank you for passing this information along, Halo." Came her voice, somewhat venomous, as if Izuku had done something horrible. Was he not supposed to contract someone in case of some emergency. He may have called the president but come on. The top school had been attacked!
Soon Halo reached the front entrance of the USJ, its large doors locked though that doesn't stop him from entering. The glass doors were quickly shattered and before him laid a sight he wouldn't have expected.
Several of U.A.'s students stood before him, none he recognized and all of them seeming to get defensive with his presence now announced. Izuku walked closer, both hands visible for them to see.
"I am the pro hero Halo; I ran into your classmate during my patrol." Izuku stated and all the students seemed to de-tense only slightly. "Can one of you give me a status report?" He asked, looking to one of the students with brunette hair.
"Ye-yes, we were attacked by a group that call themselves the League of Villains. Our teacher Mr. Aizawa is currently doing his best to fight off the main front. Ms. 13 was badly hurt though." The brunette point over to where several students are attempting to attend to the hurt pro hero.
"The rest of our class has been scattering throughout the USJ by a villain with a warp quirk." Halo nodded to the girl before walking forward to survey the area before him. Though once his eyes fell upon the center area they did not leave.
Their teacher, a man dressed in black attire was currently being beaten to death by so-some monster. If Izuku could describe it as anything similar to himself, it looked to be dead. The boy dawned in forest green amor rushed forward towards the scene before him.
He watched as blood dripped from hero's arm. A bluenette covered in hands monologued before him. "You can erase people's powers. That's irritating but it isn't impressive. When faced with true devastating power, you might as well be a quirkless child." The villain commented as he stood before the monstrous creature and pro hero.
Izuku's mind went into overdrive, trying to figure out what to do. His eyes wondered, for only a slight moment. Three students waded the water, they needed to get to safety…
Izuku had never, never in his 8 months of hero work drawn his weapon, but this seemed like as good a time as any.
Izuku pulled the MA5 rifle from his back strap, the weapon had been given to him soon after the fitting of his amor. Though weapons training had been provided to him from an early age it was to be used as a last resort.
And while he personally was not in any form of harm, both U.A.'s teacher, and three students were at risk. Along with every other person present within the facility. Izuku may have to be trained again but for people's safety it was worth it.
Izuku gritted his teeth as he walked closer to the two men and creature. He needed to get the attention away from those in danger and force the villain to take him on. "Let him go." Came the harsh voice of Halo as he stared the three down.
The two men's focus shifted to him, red and gold eyes landing on him. "And who are you?" The bluenette asked, muffled by the hands that adorned his face. Izuku eyes tightened, he didn't need to worry about the two before him for the moment.
"I said let him go." Halo reemphasized.
"Oh, and why should I do that? You should watch as this weakling is crushed by my Nomu."
Izuku shifted, raising his assault rifle closer to his eyes as he looked down the barrel. "I said let him go, or I will use force." His red eyes widened for only a moment and without a single notice only two words left the man's mouth. "Nomu, attack that cheater!"
The large black creature lunged towards Halo, disappearing, and then reappearing before Izuku, ready to bring down its fist. It's large hands slammed into the spartan. His rifle being destroyed on impact, splitting in half as his own arms felt the crushing blow. The attack sent shockwaves as Izuku's arm tremble from the amount of force the black creature exerted.
The remaining villains looked on in abject horror from the fact that a hero managed to not only withstand an attack from a Nomu. The creature raised its other fist in preparation, but Izuku brought his own right-hand forwards blocking the Nomu's next attack.
The beast was sent back several feet, reeling from the force exerted by the forest green hero. Though, no pain was caused, it had been pushed back only slightly.
Shigaraki's eyes widened in shock. "He actually stopped Nomu's punch?"
Izuku scanned the black creature before him, his mind analyzing everything he's noticed from the few seconds. "So, it has super strength, super speed, and possible shock absorption…"
The Nomu rushed towards Izuku again, but Halo simply took a step back dodging the Nomu's punch as it burrowed into the ground. "It's not conscious, is it?" The bluenette could heard laughing in the background, monologuing on how strong the creature was and how of course it wasn't conscious.
Which will win, the mindless monster or the heartless monster.
Nomu and Izuku continued to fight against one another, blows being passed between the two. The creature and boy both grunting as they traded. It was a never-ending battle between Halo's own armor and the Nomu's absorption.
Eventually though, things began to get harder, the monster seemed to only have one weak spot and while Izuku didn't want to kill, there were innocent children nearby. The kids were still hidden amongst the water's edge as Shigaraki cackled behind him. Spouting about how his Sensei was wrong about him…
Izuku wasn't sure who sensei was, nor did he care at the current moment. With one long sigh, Halo's left hand fell to his knee and pulled a combat knife from its sheath. The medium sized blade, with a black harden handle fit easily within his grip.
Izuku's mind went blank sometime after that, between the high-pitched screaming of the mindless monster and the cursing that left the Hansie guys mouth he wasn't sure what happened.
The Nomu fell to ground, its hands quickly rushing to sooth it's pained head, and the bluenette continued to yell about how a stupid NPC had been able to beat his prized Nomu. The bluenette rushed towards the Spartan dressed in forest green.
His five fingers outstretched as he tried to make contact with the man's suit. Though it would be in vain, the fight would be stopped before it ever started with a loud yell from a certain blonde headed man.
"Fear not! I am here!" Came the voice of All Might as he towered over the battle from on high. His suit being shrugged off as he rushed quickly to the scene of the battle. Halo gave a curt nod to the man, before simple replying to the blonde. "The Handsy guy has a disintegration quirk, and the misty one has a warp quirk. The thing laying over on the group is some kind of altered human who shows no sign of intelligence."
"Go rescue the other students young Halo, I will handle this." The blonde proclaimed and Halo simply nodded, not wanting to disobey the current number 1 hero.
All Might would go on to force the bluenette back through a warp gate the misty man had created, the boy vowing to return at some point. Halo on the other hand had rounded up most of the villains and gotten the students to safety before helping the hero named Eraserhead to the front gates.
The staff of U.A. would soon appear as well, most worrying about their students while others were looking at him. Izuku didn't bother to reply, he wasn't the best with social interactions and the HPSC would likely frown upon him conversing with U.A. teachers.
Police and paramedics would come sometime later, apparently Principal Nedzu had called them to treat the wounded while the police began taking statements. A man in a brownish trench coat had walked over to him, asking a few questions to which Izuku answered honestly.
Then as his statement was taken, Halo was let go, and once again returned to his usual protocol. Though, the thoughts of the kids and their possible dismissal had flashed within his mind several times he likely wouldn't get time to process it all. He was a hero, one that couldn't afford some things such as grievances or personal time..
Ending Notes:
Thanks for the support, it still surprises me how many people enjoy this fic. Comments are much appreciated!
Blue Eyes and Dr. Pepper - Thank you, we've got a long road ahead of us.
tiguylerobot - While I had originally considered using the title of Master Chief, I found that the idea of using Halo was better. A Halo is usually considered to be a divine object that refers to someone of truly good intent. This coincides with Izuku who believes that he is a 'monster'. While his name is that of a divine figure, he himself is the exact opposite.
sergeant peace - Aww, thank you so much, glad you enjoy.
