Ok so my semblance is finally revealed in this chapter and we are getting closer to my character finally starting school so that's fun.
But the most exciting bit is going to be next chapter cause I've gotten down to writting a whole chapter fight and let me tell you the reasoning behind the fight is both childish and stupid and it escalates rather quickly… or well at least I think it does.
Chapter 5 Thoughts, tests and a minor spar's
I hate thinking too much, everytime I start thinking my mind starts to go over everything and pick out the negatives and positives but shoves the latter through a door making me think mainly about the damn negatives.
And because I was stuck in my thoughts I found myself spacing out more than I usually do, shit I was spacing out now.
Looking down I found a half eaten steak that was probably luke warm, letting out a tired sigh I quietly went back to eating as I tried to ignore my thoughts, specifically thoughts that would find myself staring out into space once again.
I need a distraction, I need a hobby that doesn't involve active thinking.
Something I could just blank out, but the only hobbies that allowed me to do so were not exactly here in Remnant, the only thing that was around that was even close to my interests were comic books, but half the stuff didn't interest me all that much.
Shit I was half tempted to plagiarize Marvel or DC and make my own comics using their characters.
But that required active brain power I was incapable of handing over seeing as my focus seemed to drift between my active fears of future events and my annoyance of the soon to be school work I was most likely going to be forced to carry out.
"Not even a week and I already want to go home." I said aloud not noticing that someone was listening.
"Aaaaawww do you hear that, the transfer student wants to go home." The loud voice that tried to mimic my voice caught me off guard and caused me to twist my head in the direction of the person, a person I really really didn't want to deal with at any point of time.
Cardin fucking Winchester.
A character that fell off my radar for about a day until I remembered that I was in season 1 and most likely Jaundice probably hasn't started as of yet, so I was most likely going to be dealing with the half assed bully of Beacon.
I didn't think I would be dealing with him or even associating with him until I started class.
Fuck my luck seriously.
"Look buddy can you just leave me alone?" I asked politely looking up at the bully who had this condescending smirk plastered on his face.
"Oh yeah sure we'll leave you alone." as soon as he said that two of his teammates move to sit on the opposite side of my table while Cardin and his other teammate casually sit on either of me. "This alone enough for you?"
I take a deep breath and let out a sigh of contempt finding myself in a rather familiar situation, a situation that I quickly dubbed as the annoying circle where a small or a large group of people casually sit around a single or an even smaller group of individuals and just sit there, in a psycholicial fashion this is another way to show dominance as the bully or the larger group of people just stand there doing nothing but stare.
It can cause a lot of people to be rather anxious and force them to become rather hostile.
Fortunately I knew exactly how to deal with this.
"I asked you once, therefore warned you so I will not say it again." I said as one of my hands reached under my hoodie and pulled out one of my knives and casually stabbed it onto the table. "You have ten seconds."
"Psh what the hell are you-"
"Ten, nine, eight." I quickly started counting.
"Really your going to-"
"Seven, six, five." I casually turned my head and stared directly at Cardin as his condescending smirk started to falter. "Four, three, two-"
"Argh whatever, come on let's leave the friendless loser." Cardin quickly said getting up, his team slowly followed and quietly moved away from my table.
"Fucking cunts." I mumbled under my breath as I dislodged my Knife from the table and slowly placed it back under my hoodie where it sat in a makeshift I had made out of duct tape and cardboard.
I didn't exactly have a removable sheath, especially not for the knife on my belt, it turned out that was just one whole thing soooo… yeah makeshift sheath.
Suddenly I felt something tap on my shoulder and I slowly turned my head around only to have my vision be blocked as something slammed right into my face. Quickly my hands removed the object from my face and quickly rubbed whatever substance was covering my eyes.
When my vision was finally cleared and I saw Cardin was holding his midsection as he let out a laugh while his teammates that stood behind him were laughing just as hard and were pointing right at me blurting out random things that seemed to cause them to laugh even harder.
Now have I ever had anyone do this to me?
No I don't think I have had anyone shove a bunch of fucking cream into my face so I felt… well surprisingly not rage or anger just… disappointment. As I stared at these team of four that continued to laugh at me I just couldn't feel anything but annoyance and disappointment as instead of turning around and possibly dragging me away for one cruel and/or torturous act it was instead just a more than harmless prank that most would considering rather demeaning or embarrassing.
"Well… this sucks." I said licking my lips of the cream finding it rather wasteful of some pretty fresh whipped cream. "You wasted a cream pie for a cheap laugh." I said now, directing my disappointment towards the leader who seemed to slowly stop laughing and looked at me in confusion. "Why do you bother?" I finally asked.
"What are you talking about cream pie face haha." the mohawk teen joked as he got a couple of chuckles from his teammates.
"Oh you wanna play with observation jokes? Well sir you look like a half ass bandit that gave up the life of pillaging after you got your ass handed to you by a five year old… a mentaly disabled five year old, not saying shit about said five year old considering this is a metaphor but I don't think you've ever heard of the term or know what it fucking means." I told the mohawk teen before looking at the rather squinty eyed teen and oh the asain's were tempting but this guy looked nothing like he was asian decent.
"Oi I can't tell if your actually looking at me, so if you can oh I don't know OPEN your eyes maybe just maybe you can see yourself in the mirror cause damn your not a good looking dude, I mean babies must cry at how ugly you are but not like you can telling seeing as-oh I'm sorry I forgot that you can't see."
"And you, tall, dark and… you know you're one application of mascara away from being looking like an attention whore emo and honestly that is probably the worst your going to get from me and thats only because you look fucking boring, god damn man do you have any kind of personality trait that isn't your outer appearance?"
"And finally you." I now aimed my finger at the leader of the team and just shook my head. "Unlike your team you must be the most useless cunt I have ever seen, who in their right mind would walk around and school and start bullying random people would could most likely pull out a fucking mini gun and straight up merc your ass for being just an ignorant racist, hell why are you even here? Come on tell me why are you here!?"
…
…
…
"Oh no answer, thats a big surprise, big bad bully doesn't know why hes here maybe he should grow a fucking brain and think about it instead of annoying me!" and with that I wiped off the rest of the cream off my face flicking it on the ground and just walked away yelling out different expletives in different languages, "Chinga tu madre, Scheisse, Baka shota hentai, cunta-fucking-saurous rex!"
Couple minutes later
"I could have handled that a lot better." I muttered to myself as I sat on a bench in Beacon's courtyard, I was at my wits end as I found what I said was rather… well it was me but just didn't expect myself to be so explosive about it.
Either this was going to blow over, which is very much unlikely or I was going to be dealing with a team most definitely going to be gunning at me for the rest of my time here in this school. A school that should have definitely nicked the bud that was Cardin and his team as soon as it presented itself regardless of social norms and such.
But that's just my wishful thinking surfacing.
"How many days do I have until I have classes again?" I asked myself, pulling my scroll out and quickly looked at my calendar app and saw that I was going to be starting ooooon monday. "Well another three days, this should be fun and I still haven't gone to Vale yet… fuck, then theres the fact I have to still test my semablance and then I need think about my plans oh and I completely forgot to get my damn class application in." after my tangent I grasped my head trying not to have a stress induced panic attack.
"Hamish?" Hearing my name being called out my head quickly turned to the source and saw a familiar short teen wearing the school uniform with her red hood sitting on her shoulders, her face seemed to morph into worry as she walked closer to me. "Are you ok?"
"Would you believe me if I said yes?" I countered watching how Ruby just gave me a frown. "I'm going to take that as a no."
I leaned back against the bench and let out a tired sigh.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" Ruby asked as I saw in my peripheral that Ruby moved to sit right next to me.
"Eh why not, I'm just stressed about everything and I'm finding myself incapable of thinking of a real reason to even stay in Beacon." Just as I said that, I quickly remembered that Ozpin most likely wouldn't accept me leaving in the first place… and that's another issue added to the list. "Or better yet as to why I should fight other than personal survival but I don't think you are comfortable with talking about that just yet."
"O-oh… I'm sorry I guess you thought about my question a lot." Ruby guessed, her voice rather quiet.
I let out a grunt that sounded like confirmation as I tried to think of what other issues I could talk with Ruby about and quickly remembered about my semblance testing and my trip to Vale.
"You wanna help me with something?" I suddenly asked, looking directly at Ruby.
"Uh I guess?" Ruby sounded rather unsure of what I was most likely going to be asking of her.
"I need to go and do a shopping trip to Vale and I need someone to help me out with testing out my Semblance, you wanna help me out?" I asked, watching how Ruby frowned but looked like she was in thought before giving me a wide smile.
"Ok, but we'll have to go to Vale on the weekend though and I could absolutely help you with your semblance." Ruby exclaimed rather bright as her smile was rather infectious.
"Sweet, thanks Ruby… for helping me I guess." I thanked watching as the main protagonist grinned at me in the most positive fashion I could have ever seen.
"By the way what is your semblance?" Ruby suddenly asked.
"Weeeeell…"
Later
"What do you mean he doesn't know what his semblance is!?" Ruby winced as her partner just yelled at her.
"Better question, why are you so invested in this?" Ruby let out a sigh of relief as the more sensible teammate decided to say something. "I mean I can understand Yang but what about you?" looking over the black and what themed girl who laid in her bed, a book in her hands and her eyes looking over to the skirt wearing heiress.
"Well… I'm just worried, we know nothing about him. What if he's some kind of creep?" Weiss blurted out as Ruby and Blake just stared at her with confused looks.
"I kind of doubt that, from what I saw in the cafeteria I would see him more of a grouch than a creep." Blake stated rather casually. "A really angry grouch if you heard what he said about Cardin and his cronies." Blake continued as she found it rather refreshing to see someone casually stick up for themselves.
"Fine you can help this guy but I'm coming with you, just in case he tries anything with you." Weiss said looking at a confused looking Ruby.
"Uuuuuuh I don't see why not?" Ruby said as personally didn't really see any problem with this.
"Good now, when are you meeting…"
"Hamish? Ah well-"
Knock! Knock! Knock!
"Right now actually." Ruby said as she turned around and opened the door and saw Hamish at the door, his clothes consisted of the beacon issued dark gray hoodies, a pair of black sweat pants and finally a pair of white sneakers.
"Yo you ready?" Hamish casually greeted Looking at Ruby as she had a large smile on her face.
"Yep, do you mind if my best friend comes along?" Ruby said, pulling Weiss over with her shoulder so she stood right next to the shorter leader.
"Uh partner, not best friend." Weiss exclaimed, removing Ruby's hand off her shoulder and looked towards Hamish and narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "And you, what were you doing in the music class yesterday?" Weiss suddenly asked with her arms folded.
"Nonya."
"Nonya?" Weiss repeated never once hearing the term or word before.
"Nonya business, come on Ruby let's get to testing my stupid semblance." Hamish waved Ruby over as he started walking off.
Ruby, not bothering to try and ask what that was about, quickly moved after Hamish while Weiss stood in the dorm with an infuriated look.
"Why I-come back here!" Weiss yelled out storming out of the room slamming the door shut leaving a non caring girl to her book knowing fully well she was going to hear all about what happened later.
"So, how do you want to start testing your semblance first?" Ruby asked as we stood in one of the many gyms that the school had each gym dedicated to different objectives, wanted to get stronger there's a weight gym, want to go for leg day there's a gym filled with different machines dedicated to strengthening your legs and so on so forth but the gym we stood in was one of the fighting gyms, a place to obviously blow some steam and get better at fighting.
I mean the boxing ring on the right side and a large mat sitting in the middle of the large area as well as a row of sandbags screamed fighting.
And here I was standing in the middle of the room right next to Ruby who looked rather excited with what I wanted to do and Weiss who stood a couple metres away giving me a cold glare.
"There's a lot I want to test but I guess the first thing I want to do is rather basic." I said as I tapped the tip of my right shoe on the ground, something of a little ritual that I do every now and again or something like that.
Taking a couple steps forwards onto the large mat that sat on the other side of the gym I looked over to Ruby and smiled.
"How about spar?" I asked, watching how Ruby blinked in surprise but looked a little bit confused. "I got a grasp of what my semblance may be but I want to try something out so just indulge me." I quickly explained as Ruby looked a little more nervous but nodded.
"Weiss mind being the ref?" I asked as the girl just let out a huff and muttered something that I guess something like a yes. "Alright Ruby, this is going to be a simple spar and the first one to be knocked onto their back loses got it?" I explained the rules and seeing as we had aura there really was no need to worry too much about hurting each other too much.
"I got it, but just in case go easy on me please?" Ruby exclaimed, obviously nervous as she pulled her hands up in what I assumed was an amateurish boxing stance. She probably learned how to fight from her dad and sister but obviously like in the anime Ruby focused more on fighting with her weapon than without it which was not a good idea especially in this line of work.
"We got aura Ruby… also no promises." I said moving a couple of metres backwards as I took a second to think, who the hell do I know and seen that could fight hand to hand and look BS?
Suddenly my mind went back to Tekken and if I ignore literally all of the BS physics defying crap there were characters I could absolutely probably, maybe, possibly be able to fight with, one of them being my main of course Lars.
"Oh this should be fun." I muttered remembering his specific arm sweeping attack style that hit hard all the way to his punishing counter knee and that low sweeping kick, "Oh yeah I think I can handle that." I found myself moving my body into the same ready stance of Lars
"Alright, ready?" Weiss called out as I nodded my head watching how Ruby nodded herself. "Fight."
As soon as Weiss spoke those words Ruby seemingly panicked and ran right at me, her body turning into petals as a large blur with her body materializing right in front of me with the young teen throwing a punch, holding my left up I blocked the blow and frowned in confusion as there wasn't all that much force behind the punch.
Racking it up to my aura I quickly back stepped away as I moved away from Ruby's next punch, quickly as if remember the button combination my darted down and sweeped my leg kicking Ruby at her feet and as quickly as I dipped I use my kicks own speed to spin myself back up where I saw ruby fall back first onto the mat.
"Guess I won that one." I said as I eased myself out of Lar's fighting stance feeling rather surprised at how… it was easy to move, no strain on my muscles whatsoever but I figured that was Aura doing it's job for me.
"Whoooooa that was… how did you see me!?" Ruby suddenly asked as the girl jumped up onto the ground with absolute glee as I blinked in confusion.
"What?" I asked in confusion.
"I mean nobody can see me after I use my semblance!" Ruby exclaimed as I looked at her in further confusion. "I mean the only people that could see me would be well I guess everyone but if I had Crescent Rose this would have gone absolutely different." Ruby suddenly babbled on as I looked to Weiss for an explanation.
"Sigh I don't know." Weiss exclaimed looking rather annoyed.
"Hold on Ruby what do you mean I saw you? Are you talking about when I blocked your first punch?" I wondered if that's what she meant or not.
"Well yeah duh, not eve my sister could block me that fast unless she prepares for it, but you moved so quick and I was like whoooa." Ruby started to gush in excitement while I stood there in surprise.
I could move fast enough to block Ruby just as she was coming out of using her semblance?
"Well at least I know one thing is for certain." I said with absolute certainty, my semblance was Adaptive Muscle Memory.
But it's obviously not perfect and from what I think I saw I think I have an additional kinetic vision bonus as well, I mean Ruby looked like she was moving in her regular speed when she first threw her punch and with AMM(not going to say the whole fucking thing all the damn time) my body moved quickly in order to intercept.
I mean this may actually explain why I was able to matrix dodge under Yang in my match against her.
Now with that I had a couple more tests I needed to go about, specifically which fighting style will I be using all the time, how fast is my body really and finally could I use FPS as a way to train me with my Ace's?
That last one was going to be an interesting test that's for damn sure.
"Wanna go again?" I asked Ruby who at first seemed a little nervous but after that first light spar she seemed rather excited.
"Yep but this time I'm going all out with my semblance!" Ruby said as she bounced on the balls of her feet eager to carry on with my tests.
"Good wouldn't be a test if I wasn't challenged." I said with a smile before turning to the still annoyed looking Weiss. "On you Weiss." I told the girl as she just let out a sigh as nodded beforeing gesturing for the two of us to stand in the middle of the large mat once more.
"Alright, same rules as last time first on their back loses." I said reminding Ruby the rule of the spar.
"Ok!"
"Alright ready… fight."
