Chapter 53
Present time: We all cast my spell to see in the dark area. Neville quickly ran back over to where we were standing in a group. We wasted no time in stunning a lot of death eaters while they couldn't see. Sure it was kind of a dirty move but these are murderers we're talking about. Voldemort let out an angry yell and vanished all the smokey darkness.
We all opened our eyes and got into our dueling stances. The only people still standing were Voldemort, Dumbledore, Malfoy Sr, Bellatrix and Snape. "Annie, you take Dumbles I've got Tommy boy." Harry said. We had originally planned to face Voldemort together but now someone had to deal with Dumbledore and I suppose that had to be me. Harry and Voldemort were soon circling each other. Voldemort started doing his usual ranting: Prepare to die bla bla bla. My god, he loves the sound of his own voice. Typical movie villain; always talking.
Before I knew it Dumbledore and I were flinging spells at each other left and right. He was being careful not to have our spells meet again after last time. This made it very hard as even though I had more power, Dumbledore knew more spells and had more experience fighting. "Aguamenti!" I quickly yelled as he shot a stream of fire at me. I made the water form into a circular shield in front of me and it easily protected me from the fire. I then simultaneously sent the small amount of water at him as well as two quickly cast stunners and the disarming spell. He deflected the water easily but barely managed to block the others.
I was so confused. It just made no sense. Why would Dumbledore join Voldemort after he did so much to try and stop him? I quickly cast the shield charm as Dumbledore sent some offensive spells at me. I looked over at Harry and Voldemort quickly to see their spells locked in a battle of wills.
Suddenly it all clicked into place. Why would Voldemort be trying to kill Harry if he knew Harry was a horcrux? Dumbledore never told him which means that Dumbledore is going to double cross him. He thinks that once Harry is dead he can kill Voldemort and claim it was all for the greater good because Harry had to die. He doesn't know that I already destroyed the Horcrux.
I opened my mouth to tell him Harry wasn't a horcrux but in my moment of distraction, Dumbledore had taken the opportunity to conjure a big bulldog. I drooped my wand in shock and fear. "How-How did you know?" I stuttered.
"What, you think I can pull you out of the future but I can't pull out a newspaper?" He laughed holding up a muggle newspaper. I caught a glimpse of the headline: 'VICIOUS DOG KILLS SIX YEAR OLD BOY'. "Seems fitting doesn't it? A dog killed your brother and now one can kill you." He said as he summoned my wand from the ground and into his grip. He then took it in both his hands and snapped it clean in two.
I didn't really need my wand. I had been practicing wandless magic so often that it now came as easily as using a wand. However, I had grown attached to the thing. The dog advanced on me and I just stood there frozen in fear. "ANNIE, SNAP OUT OF IT NOW!" I heard Harry yelling at me and looked up in time to see Voldemort use his distraction to hit him with the dreaded green curse. "Harry!" I screamed along with all our friends. I was shaking but it was no longer with fear. No, I was furious.
I flicked my wrist and the dog vanished. Dumbledores wand came flying into my hand. It grew warm in my grip and I knew it was mine now. I stunned Dumbledore and stormed angrily over to where Voldemort was laughing with glee. "You bastard!" I yelled as I fired spell after spell at him. He stumbled backwards as he struggled to block them. Harry was dead and it was all my fault for distracting him.
The adrenaline was pumping as I fired spell after spell. He dropped to the ground in an attempt to avoid the reducto I had aimed at his head. Then suddenly Harry sat up and got to his feet. My eyes widened significantly as he looked at me for an explanation. I opened my mouth but before I could say anything I was grabbed from behind and Dumbledore's wand was snatched away from me. Lucius Malfoy flung me to the ground. "Crucio!" He yelled and unimaginable pain ripped through my body. I couldn't help the scream that ripped from my throat.
...
Harry's POV
Voldemort and I were at a stalemate. "Oh look Potter, your mudblood friend is about to die." Voldemort taunted. I looked over at Joanne to see her frozen in front of a big dog. "ANNIE, SNAP OUT OF IT NOW!" I yelled as loudly as I could.
"Avada Kedavra!" Voldemort screamed and I looked back just in time to see the spell hit me.
I felt numb as I fell to the ground. I could hear the others screaming my name in horror. I heard Joanne yelling at Voldemort and battling him. I wasn't dead? Well now I know how Annie felt when she survived in the graveyard. I mustered up all my strength and sat up quickly. My head spun slightly as I got to my feet. I looked at Annie with a silent question. She usually knew why these things happened but she looked just as clueless as me this time.
I saw Malfoy sneaking up behind her and I was about to yell for her to look out but I had to dodge a spell that Voldemort had sent at me. I quickly had to go back to fighting him. I could hear Annie screaming and it angered me but I could do nothing to help her at the moment.
...
Ginny's POV
Once I had put the shield up I could do nothing but watch as the battle unfolded before my eyes. I couldn't hear anything that was going on as the shield seemed to be stopping any sound from coming in or out.
When Harry was hit with the killing curse it seemed like my whole world collapsed around me. I wanted so badly to take down the shield but both Harry and Annie had been very insistent about the fact that it had to stay up until either Voldemort and his death eaters were defeated or they were all dead. We had come up with a fail safe that will transport every live person in the shield back to where they came from if we don't win though.
I felt tears trickling down my face as I watched Annie knock down Dumbledore and take Harry's place fighting Voldemort. She was actually doing really well and she look fierce. Remind me to never make her mad. Suddenly to both my great shock and happiness, Harry got back to his feet. I don't know why he was still alive but I really didn't give a crap at the moment. Harry wasn't dead!
I smiled as he went back to fighting Voldemort but the smile quickly left my face as I saw Fred get hit by Bellatrix and fall to the ground. Then to my horror Lucius started torturing Annie. No one seemed to be in any position to help either of them and I bit my nails in worry when I saw Dumbledore starting stir from where Annie had stunned him.
...
Draco's POV
As soon as Harry and Joanne started their duels I went for my father. Hermione was quick to join me and we started dueling him together. "You are such a disappointment to me Draco." He told me. "Hanging around Harry Potter and his stupid mudblood friends."
"Don't call them that!" I snapped as I launched two stunners at him quickly. He only just blocked them before Hermione succeeded in disarming him. His wand flew over and Hermione caught it.
"ANNIE, SNAP OUT OF IT NOW!" Hermione and I jerked our heads around to where Harry had yelled from and watched in horror as he was hit by the killing curse.
"Harry!" We yelled as he landed at Voldemort's feet.
I was forced out of my horrified shock by my wand being snatched out of my hand and Hermione's yell. I whipped my head back around to see my father holding her at wand-point. He had used the distraction to grab his wand back along with our own. I looked on in horror as he started to say the killing curse.
Suddenly he fell to the ground seemingly unconscious. I grinned at Neville in thanks as he went back to his duel. "You help Neville and the twins take Bellatrix, I'll go help Parvati and Ron with Snape." Hermione told me before running over to their battle. I looked over to Neville and the twins in time to see Fred get hit with a bad cutting curse. He fell to the ground but he wasn't dead. I ran over as fast as I could to help him.
I cast a quick healing spell to stop the bleeding but it didn't look like he was going to be getting up any time soon. I then joined Neville and George in the fight against Bellatrix. A scream suddenly pierced the air but I couldn't stop what I was doing long enough to see what was happening, let alone help.
...
Ron's POV
Parvati and I were struggling with keeping Snape from hitting us. He didn't appear to be trying to kill us like other death eaters would be though. He seemed to only be firing spells to knock us out. Maybe he really is a good guy. As I thought this Parvati was hit with a full body bind and fell to the ground. Well at least that was better than being killed.
Hermione joined me and we continued fighting Snape together. Hermione turned in alarm when she heard Annie screaming and was quickly stunned. I wanted to help Annie too but I knew that I had to keep dueling Snape. I didn't know who's side he was on but I couldn't take the risk of loosing this fight. I started fighting harder, the adrenaline was pumping through my veins as I threw spell after spell at my former potions master.
...
Fred's POV
I was in so much pain. Draco had stopped the bleeding but the wound was still there. It hurt so much to move. I jerked my head up when I heard Annie screaming. I tried to get up and help her but I just fell back down. I hated seeing Annie in pain. I looked around expecting someone to help her but they were all too busy with their own duels. I was the only one who wasn't stunned or dueling. I had to do something!
It was then that I spotted my wand lying a few meters away. I pulled myself along the ground as fast as I could. Joanne's screaming made me forget about my pain and I let out a breath of relief as my fingers closed around the wand.
I used the last of my strength to lift my arm and fire a full body bind at the laughing Malfoy. Joanne's screaming stopped as Lucius stiffened and collapsed on the ground. I sighed in relief and laid my head back on the ground in exhaustion.
...
Joanne's POV
I shakily got to my feet and looked over at where Fred was lying. I wanted desperately to go see if he was alright but I needed to make sure no one needed my help first. Voldemort, Snape and Bellatrix were still standing. I was about to go over to where Ron was fighting Snape alone but it turned out he didn't need my help. He managed to stun Snape and then went to work reviving Parvati and Hermione.
I looked over at where Harry and Voldemort's wands were connected by a stream of magic and knew that I could do nothing to help him. He seemed to be winning anyway though. Finally, I turned to where Bellatrix was in time to see Neville disarm her with a triumphant flick of his wand. I had never been prouder of the boy in my life.
I guess no one did need my help. I grinned and started to run over to where Fred was only to be slammed into the shield by a powerful spell. I groaned and slowly looked up to see Dumbledore standing across from me. Why can't bad guys just stay down?!
"You ruined everything for me!" He yelled at me. "You were supposed to do what I wanted but instead you turned on me. I deserve to be in power! Everyone loved me before you showed up. I was going to train Harry into letting Voldemort kill him and then deliver the final blow. I would have been worshipped as a god but then you spoiled everything!" He threw me into the shield with another spell as I was trying to stand.
"If you really though that's how it was going to happen," I breathed out as I slowly pushed myself to my feet. "Then you're crazier than I thought you were." He angrily fired another spell at me but I blocked it with a wandless shield charm. "Nice try Dumbles but you're going to have to do better than that." I taunted calmly.
Dumbledore angrily raised his wand and fire exploded from the tip. I quickly cast Aguamenti again and water started spouting from my hands. I used my powers to keep it in the air and heading towards Dumbledore. Steam started to engulf me as the water met the fire. I could no longer see anything around me. Eventually the smoke cleared and Dumbledore was lying on the ground completely wet and not moving. Oh Merlin, I didn't mean to drown him! My hands flew to my mouth in shock.
I looked over at Harry just in time to see Voldemort get hit with the rebound of his own killing curse. All the death eaters were stunned and everyone had been revived. Hermione was over by Fred healing him with Ron's help. Once they were done Fred got up and we all just stood there for a second, completely silent. I don't think any of us really knew what to do. We had actually done it! We had won. Harry had killed Voldemort. I had unfortunately drowned Dumbledore but in my defense he had been helping He-Who-Has-No-Nose. I suppose it's He-Who-Had-No-Nose now though.
We were suddenly hit with a wall of noise and I realized with a jolt that Ginny had taken the shield down. Everyone was cheering and clapping. However, Sirius, Mrs Weasley, Bill and McGonagall just looked really shocked and angry at us. "I think we're in trouble." I muttered to the others. Fred cracked a tiny smile as he walked over and put his arm around my waist.
"Yep, mum is definitely going to kill us." He said. I laughed and turned to plant a kiss on his lips.
"I'm glad you're okay." I said once I pulled back.
"Me too."
"So how do you guys think I survived that killing curse?" Harry asked.
"Well I have a theory." Hermione said.
"And?" I asked.
"That book I read from the ravenclaw library made the killing curse sound kind of like a fast acting virus." She began. "I think that because you had already been exposed to it twice, your body had become immune. That also explains why you didn't fall into the coma when Annie destroyed the horcrux that was in your head. Your body had already experienced it once so it knew what to expect and how to fight it."
"You really are a genius, 'Mione" Draco said with a grin before kissing her happily.
That was the last thing we got to say to each other at that moment because we were ambushed by worried parents and teachers and dragged to the hospital wing.
