Sam picked Tanya up at her house in the limo he rented. It would also be picking them back up later. Tanya grinned at him, looking him up and down.
"Damn! That is a great suit on you." She wasn't looking half bad herself. She wore a floaty lavender dress, with short sheer sleeves and gold detailing. The gold was echoed at her neck and wrists with simple jewelry there and the gold in her dreads matched perfectly.
"You look great Tanya." She grinned and stepped out of her house and up to the limo which was opened by the Manson family's chauffeur. Though Tanya didn't know that was who that was. Sam nodded to him though as they got into the limo. They made it to the dance and entered the gym where it was being held. Sam was looking around, Tanya could guess for who. There were a couple of people that were very easy to spot here. Jack and Maddie Fenton were still in their regular jumpsuits, though Jack had added a horrible yellow and blue polka dot tie to his and Maddie had left off the hood. They were talking to Lancer, at least for a moment before Jack hurried away from them. Sam frowned, he hadn't seen Dani yet. Dash was over by the snack table, at least for a moment before stepping away with Vincent and Kwan. But Dani wasn't with him. Sam frowned as he and Tanya stepped over to one of the refreshment table.
After a moment they were joined, by Jack Fenton himself.
"Sam, Tanya, I need your help." His voice didn't quite sound right, and since when were his eyes green? Before Sam could say anything Tanya shook her head.
"Whatever Dani did we didn't." Jack rolled his eyes at her.
"Tanya it's me, Dani." He pulled a few walkie talkies out of his pocket, handing one to Tanya and one to Sam. "I need you to keep an eye on my dad and make sure he doesn't get anywhere near Lancer. Sam I need help finding Dash. I sorta told him the amulet was yours, that you lost it at the mall, or one that looked just like that. I don't know how else to get it off him." They nodded taking the walkie talkies.
"At least the dance will be interesting." Sam said with a sigh heading off to see if he could find Dash. Jack's face frowned at Tanya.
"What's up with him?" Jack asked, still under Dani's control. Tanya shrugged as she grabbed a cup of punch.
"He didn't get to go with who he wanted to go with." She pointed out and Jack's frown deepened. But he shook his head, or at least Dani did. In moments Jack's eyes returned to their usual blue and the walkie talkie from his hand vanished. He blinked before shaking his head and picking up a cup of punch, like he'd always meant to do that. Tanya was looking around for Dani who appeared in a few moments slipping back into the gym. She looked good. Now Tanya just had to get Sam and Dani in the same room and watch the sparks fly. She shook her head taking a sip of her punch. She loved her friends she really did, but they were complete idiots.
Sam tracked Dash into the boys bathroom and took a chance. If the jock was interested in Dani then they were going to be seeing a lot more of each other. He sighed, steeled his nerves, tamped down his annoyance and stepped over to the other boy who was fixing his jacket in the mirror.
"Hey Dash." Sam tried to be as polite as possible. But the grin that Dash shot him was downright smug.
"Manson right?" He pulled off the amulet, holding it out to Sam. "Found your watch thing. Figures it would be yours, matches that whole goth thing you've got going." Sam nodded fixing a look of relief on his face.
"Thanks! I was worried when I couldn't find that." He said, taking the amulet back. He couldn't avoid putting it on though, or Dash would be suspicious.
"Oh good. Be sure to tell Fenton that I was cool about it. I got a bet to win." Dash said turning back to the mirror. Sam felt unbidden anger rise in him. There was something else too, an animalistic something under his skin rearing up at Dash's words.
"Bet?" It was almost a growl. Dash didn't notice Sam's change in demeanor though. He laughed.
"Yeah, not like anyone would date Fenton without something else going on. She's cute when she tries but that freaky family, total mood killer. Plus I'm pretty sure the loser gene runs in that family. Would explain why her hot sister has zero social life." The growl ripped itself from Sam before he could stop it. Everything blurred into white hot rage and he knew no more.
That was until the world slowly resolved again. He had no idea how much time had passed. But he wasn't in the bathroom anymore, he was on the football field and his head was aching. He looked up and blinked. That was Dani kneeling next to him, a look of concern on her face. Her hair was carefully pinned back out of her face, gold twinkling in black locks like stars in the night sky. Her dress was stunning, hugging her and glinting under the moonlight, it looked like she was wearing a nebula. Her arms were bare and she'd built up quite a bit of muscle since the accident. Her blue eyes glittered in the moonlight as she stood holding out a hand to him.
"You ok Sam?" He blinked at her for another minute.
"Did, did I have fun at the dance?" He asked stupidly and Dani grinned as he finally found the mental faculties to take her hand and let her help him to his feet. She held out her hand, in which was the Amulet of Aragon.
"Let's just say you had a roaring good time." She frowned again. "Are you ok though. I really didn't want to hurt you." He nodded.
"Yeah, just a little confused I don't remember anything but Dash…" Dash trash talking Dani and her family, mentioning a bet he'd made. He hadn't gone into specifics but it had something to do with Dani, that much he knew.
"Yeah I got that somewhere between all the roaring of 'Bastard' 'User' 'Liar' and the fact that you attacked him." She frowned again. "What was that about?" Sam shook his head.
"He was talking trash about you and your parents. It pissed me off." Dani frowned, Sam wouldn't lie about something like that. Dani shook her head.
"Whatever, he's not worth it. Come on I think most everyone cleared off when the fight started but we should probably find Tanya." Sam nodded as they headed back into the practically deserted gym. There were a few people still here. Dash was over in the corner recovering from the dragon attack with Vince and Kwan. Vince looked smug, Kwan was shaking his head at his friends. Sam frowned. Dani looked down, glancing around he spotted the DJ, one who'd been at a few of his parents functions that he avoided like the plague. When forced to attend he usually hung out with the staff instead of the uptight investors his parents partied with.
"Wait here." Sam said to Dani who frowned as he raced to the DJ. "Evan!" The man turned. "Could you play one more song? Please?" The DJ glanced over Sam's shoulder where Dani was waiting. He grinned.
"You got it Sam. I'll make it something slow." He said with a wink and Sam grinned as he headed back over to Dani. He held out a hand to her.
"Dance with me? That way we both have one fun dance from freshman year." She grinned at him, tucking the Amulet of Aragon into the pocket of her dress and taking his hand. The song came on, a slow romance song. They swayed to the tune as Sam spotted Tanya looking smug, leaning against the door, like she'd been right all along.
