23 Misunderstood

To say Dani kept a closer eye on her parents after their little visit to Wisconsin would be an understatement. But the first thing she did when she got home was call Sam and Tanya so she could fill them in on everything she'd learned.

"There's another Halfa out there, this is huge news!" Tanya said pacing her room where they'd decided to convene their meeting since her parents were at work.

"I mean it would be pretty cool if he wasn't bat shit bonkers!" Dani grumbled into the files she'd stolen from the lab. She felt bad about taking things from her parents but she needed details on what had happened to Vlad twenty years ago. She knew only bare bones basics and there was no way she'd be asking him. He'd shown his true colors messing with her family and she needed to be ready to deal with him again when he eventually popped back up.

"But does this mean there could be more, other Halfa's who maybe are a bit more sane?" Sam asked running a hand through his hair. Dani shook her head as she found the notes she was looking for. She sat up and laid them out on Tanya's bed. They were slightly faded, they were twenty year old notes after all, but they included schematics for the original portal which had been barely a tenth of the size of the one Dani had accidently activated.

"Given the way we both died I'm gonna go with probably not." Dani said skimming the notes. "It says here that the portal was activated, but due to an error in calculations it didn't open the way it was supposed to. It basically blasted out concentrated ectoplasm from the Ghost Zone, right into Vlad's face, before shorting out. They never tried that portal again because of Vlad's case of Ecto Acne. Mom and dad both worked on a cure for ages but they never found one, the hospital managed to get it under control after almost five years. But after the accident Vlad cut ties with them both. Because he didn't want my mom to know about his ghost half and resented my dad for causing it." Dani shook her head.

"It's really a shame that he's so obsessed with your mom. It would have been great to learn from someone who's got experience here." Tanya said skimming the notes over Dani's shoulder. Dani nodded.

"Yeah if he hadn't been such a fruitloop I would have loved to learn how the hell my powers work. Just my luck I guess, the only other person in the whole world who knows what I'm going through and he's a raving lunatic." Sam patted Dani on the shoulder unsure of how else to comfort her. This wasn't exactly a common occurrence after all. Dani shook her head and stood. "I need to get back home. I just hope this doesn't effect my parents too badly."

Over the next few months Dani kept an eye on her parents to make sure they were ok. She had no idea if multiple possessions would effect her father or if things would change between them because of what happened at the reunion. Dani thought she'd been right in her assumptions that this would cause some strife between her parents when her father again missed their wedding anniversary. Earning a rant from her mother that wound Dani up in the Ghost Zone in the newly built Spector Speeder. Her encounter with the ghost in the white suit, Walker, left her shaken but what shook her even more was her mother bringing up a divorce as she headed off to see her sister in Arkansas. Dani was sort of terrified that her parents were going to split up. Had Vlad somehow managed to drive a wedge between them. She decided that she would scrub the house from top to bottom while mom was away to try and stop her from being even more angry when she returned. That lead to accidentally shooting the gift her father was going to use to apologize to her mother into the Ghost Zone, so in the name of saving her parent's marriage Dani headed into the Ghost Zone to find the present.

Now arrested and tossed into an otherworldly prison with every ghost she'd ever fought and many she hadn't Dani was almost certain she was going to die again. But she managed to convince Skulker to band together to beat the guards and escape. She slipped back to the warden's office to grab the present and was trapped by him, his foot pressing down on her clavicle. That was when the Spector Speeder crashed through the wall, except no crash was the wrong word. Phased. The Speeder had phased through the wall and Sam and Tanya with it.

"Dani!" Sam and Tanya cried out.

"How did you guys get here?" Dani grunted. Tanya leaned against the window.

"Get this humans just phase through everything in here! Real world stuff too! In the Ghost Zone we're the ghosts!" Dani looked at her friend dumbfounded for a moment. Then she grinned wickedly. Transforming back into Dani Fenton she grinned as Walker's foot sank right through her. She walked right through him and grabbed the present as Walker tried and failed to grab her.

"Why can't I touch you!" He snarled. Dani grinned.

"This is the Ghost Zone, I'm not just a ghost, I'm human. Your rules do not apply." Dani grabbed the back of the Speeder and it took off through the wall. They returned to the Fenton Portal and sped back through it. Dani let out a breath and looked down at the present in her hands with a grin. Then her face fell.

"Shit how am I supposed to get to Arkansas to get this to dad?" Sam pulled out his phone.

"Leave that to me."

"Hey!" All three of them froze as Jazz barreled down the stairs.

"You're not going anywhere without me! Mom and dad put me in charge. When did you guys even come down here, no one was down here like ten minutes ago." Sam rolled his eyes.

"Two tickets to, where does your Aunt Alicia live again?" Dani winced.

"Spitoon Arkansas. It's the dumbest name for a town." Sam frowned at his phone.

"There also isn't an airport." Jazz rolled her eyes.

"Of course there isn't an airport there, it's literally in the middle of nowhere. The only planes that even fly over it are crop jobs, you have to parachute out. It's ridiculous. Wait why are we going to Arkansas?" Dani held up the present and Jazz nodded. "See that makes sense, dad's totally clueless, he would forget the thing he was going to use to apologize!" Sam rolled his eyes clicking a few things on his phone.

"Yeah argue about your parents psychology on the way to Arkansas, plane's waiting." Jazz glanced at Dani who shrugged.

"Did I forget to mention that Sam's filthy rich?" Jazz crossed her arms as the group left the lab to head to the airstrip where their plane was waiting.
