Once upon a time, the sound of thunder meant a coming storm. Trouble.

Now, after everything she'd been through, all Weiss could hear was the sound of a peaceful, dream-filled night with the woman she loved.

It seemed like ages ago that Weiss Schnee offered her bed to Ruby Rose, then leader of team RWBY, in order to help the poor girl get through a storm that had slammed Vale back then. Ruby had a particularly nasty fear of thunder, made worse if there was lightning to go with it, and Yang had been stuck out in town that day. She would later learn that their first night together was also the first time Ruby had slept all the way through the night.

Of course, it also created a problem – Weiss quickly became addicted to having company beneath the sheets.

It took another year before something else finally happened, as Ruby refused to join her again until Weiss forced the issue (there really wasn't any other way to say it). Both girls realized they could no longer stand to be apart from each other, and their relationship officially started the next morning.

They stayed together all the way through the four years of training at Beacon Academy, graduating together and earning their Huntress Licenses.

They stayed together as the Schnee Dust Company finally grew a pair and forced the old CEO out of office, putting his heir in charge instead – and Whitley surprised everyone by not only doing a better job than his old man, but making positive changes to how the company did business. In a few short years, he'd all but removed the foundation of the White Fang's entire purpose. As Yang would say, the boy done good.

And they stayed together… to raise the next generation.

"Mother?"

"…Hmm?"

"It's thundering again. Can I… that is… um… May I-"

*sigh* "If you want to join me, just say so. Get up here, kiddo."

"Yay!"

"Don't jump on the bed, Primrose. That's rude."

"Ggh… sorry, Mother."

"Come here, you…"

"Mmm… you're nice and warm…"

"Careful, Prim… you're starting to sound like Ruby."

"Mama's gonna be back soon, right? Didn't she have a mission to do?"

"Your Mama has a lot of missions… all the time… but I suppose that's the price you pay when you're the single most popular Huntress in Vale. Lots of people need your help."

"…She's more popular than Aunt Yang?"

"Well… more in-demand. Yang has more rabid fans, but Ruby gets more work."

"Is that why you stay at home? Cuz she does all the work?"

*Bap*

"Owiee!"

"I stay at home because I choose to. I still have my Huntress License, I'll have you know. Besides… if me and Ruby went out on missions together, we'd have to leave you here… all by yourself… with all the monsters we keep in the closet-"

"Hiiiii- Gah, ha-ha-ha-ha-"

"Found your weak spot!"

"Hahahaha, okay I give! I giiiiive!"

"…"

"…"

"Are you really scared of thunder? Need I remind you that you're almost ready to start classes at Signal?"

"… … …Not really. I just…"

"…You just…?"

"I just don't like sleeping alone."

"Oh, Prim… *hugs* you got that from me. Did I ever tell you how I Ruby and I got together?"

"Several times."

"Did I mention that she stopped being scared of thunder before she was 18?"

*yawn* "…Yep."

"Did I mention how incredible she is? How she could instantly go from childish to mature, then back? How selfless and generous she can be?"

"…"

"And did I mention how she's someone who would fight the entire world to keep you safe? Someone who would dive headfirst into the Pit if it meant saving the ones she held most dear? Someone who means the world to me, far more than anyone else on Remnant?"

"…zzz"

"That's what I thought. G'night, Primrose."

"How long have you been standing there?"

"Hmm… since the part about keeping monsters in the closet."

"Did you think I was kidding?"

"Hey… I know my taste in fashion isn't as 'refined' as yours, but I still think my wardrobe is perfectly normal."

"…Coco visited last week, took one look at it and ran to the bathroom to empty her guts."

*grumble* "That's HER problem…"

"Are you gonna stand there all night, or actually get in bed with us?"

"Hmm… is there a third option?"

"Yep… it starts with 'D' and ends with '-ivorce.'"

"You wouldn't."

"Get. Over. Here."

"Alright, alright…"

"…"

"She's really out, huh?"

"She is your daughter, after all. Though I have to say… if she were any more like you, I could give her your old outfit for a costume and no one would know the difference."

"You don't think… the lab made a mistake, do you?"

"The doctor told us your side had the more dominant genes, remember? You and your sister look nothing alike."

"Fair point."

"… … …I think she misses you, though. Maybe you should consider taking a few less jobs until she starts her classes?"

"I was planning to. This last one was a biggie, so we can afford to take it easy for a while."

"We could afford to anyway. I'm not exactly broke, you know."

"I do recall something about you being an 'heiress' a long time ago…~"

"Don't push your luck, Ruby Rose – just get over here and snuggle me."

"As you wish."

*kiss* "I love you."

"I love you, too."

"I love you more."

"…Are we really gonna start that again?"

"Behave yourself. If you wake up Prim, you're sleeping outside with Drei."

"Yes, ma'am."

Author's Note: …I'm as surprised as you that this one got an update.

Though I will say this chapter will end it. For sure this time. Of course, if you'd like to see any other pairings with this format, I welcome any and all suggestions (though I'd advise you not to be too disappointed if I don't actually get to them, life is currently slamming me on all sides).
