Chapter 20

Kenny's POV

"I think this is letting him off the hook too easy." I'm in the car with Stan heading to my house. We had a long talk about Chase and have come up with an idea to get him out of my house, but also to keep him from going to jail…for now anyway.

"He's your son. Do you really want to send your own son to jail?" Stan asks me.

I shake my head. "Of course I don't. But when Kelly finds out, she's not going to let this slide."

"If he's not living here, maybe she'll go easy on him."

"You don't know my wife like I do."

"Well hopefully if this situation works out, he won't go to jail."

"We'll see…" I don't know how Stan can be this optimistic. We now know what Chase is capable of. I honestly don't think Kelly is going to let this go when she finds out he's behind the kidnapping. Stan knows that as well as I do.

Once we arrive at the house, we immediately head to Chase's room. My mouth drops when I see Aurora sitting in his bed with him and he's reading her a story. "Are you kidding me?" I yell out. Stan puts his hand on my shoulder and whispers for me to remain calm.

Chase smirks at me. "What? I'm spending time with my little sister. Is that a problem?"

I look at Aurora and smile. "Aurora, do you mind if daddy and Chase have a moment alone?"

"Will he be able to finish the story? Mommy isn't here to read me a bedtime story." She pouts.

"I'll come read it to you once I'm done with Chase."

"Okay daddy. Goodnight Chase."

"Good night Ror!" She hugs Chase, then gives me a hug before heading to her room. I close the door behind her

"I don't want you near my daughter. Do you understand me?"

"She's my sister."

He's really pushing it right now. "Don't try to pull the sister card with me! Especially not after what you did to your brothers!"

"You got them back, no harm done!" Chase shrugs.

"No harm done? Connor was shot twice!"

"He's still alive, isn't he?"

I turn to Stan. "Do you hear this?"

He nods in disbelief. "I do…"

"Do you feel any guilt over what you did?" I ask Chase.

"Well…" He turns his head away. That answers that question and now I'm infuriated!

"I can't believe you!"

"Dude, let him speak…" Stan steps in.

"I don't have anything to say…" Chase tells us.

"After all the shit you pulled, you have nothing to say? What the fuck were you thinking?" I grab him and start shaking him.

"Kenny…" Stan tries to pull me off of him.

"I want an answer! NOW DAMNIT!"

"Again, you got your kids back. Don't you think you should let this go?"

I let out a sigh. "I really wanted to try to reason with you, but you're impossible! Pack your shit and get the fuck out of my house!" I shove him to the ground.

"What?"

"You heard me! I don't want you near me or my family!"

Chase nods slowly. "Wow…so once again, you're throwing me out of your life…" He slowly gets up. I can see him tearing up and that pisses me off more than anything.

"No! You do NOT get to play the victim right now! Not after the hell you put my sons through!"

"I'm your son too, or did you forget about that again?"

I try to calm myself down. This isn't easy for me, but I know it has to be done. "I've never forgotten that. Because you're my son, I'm only kicking you out instead of having your ass locked up!"

Chase snorts. "Gee thanks! Where am I supposed to go?"

"You're going to stay with me and Wendy so you can finish out the school year." Stan interjects.

"Then what?"

"You can go straight to hell for all I care!" I tell him.

"Dude!" Stan lightly shoves me.

Chase shakes his head. "It's okay Uncle Stan…at least now I know how he really feels about me." He gives me a sad glance before turning to Stan. "Can we just go now? You can come back and get my things later."

"Are you sure?"

He nods. "I'm sure." He says just before walking out of the room.

Stan glares at me. "Dude, you were out of line!"

"I meant every word!"

He shakes his head. "No you don't. I know you dude. You're pissed off and rightfully so-"

"He kidnapped my sons, Stan! Connor was shot! Pissed off doesn't even begin to describe how I feel right now!"

"I understand, but Chase is your first born."

"Connor is fearing for his life right now because of Chase! I'm sorry, but Chase can't be my priority right now!"

"I was NEVER your priority…DAD!" We turn and see Chase standing in the doorway. At this point, he's in tears.

"Chase…" Stan tries to hug him, but he pushes him away and quickly wipes his eyes.

"Now can we go Uncle Stan? I don't want to be somewhere I'm not wanted!"

Stan nods and hands him his keys. "Just wait for me in the car." Chase nods and leaves. Stan turns towards me.

"Stan, I-" He puts his hand up.

"Don't say anything right now. You're angry and every time you speak, you make the situation worse. Take time to calm down, and then maybe the two of you can sit and work this out."

I shake my head. "There's nothing to work out."

Stan sighs. "I know deep down you don't mean that. We'll talk later." He leaves. I sit down on Chase's bed. I grab something off the floor and throw it against the wall. I really wish things didn't have to be like this. I really wanted to believe he's a good kid, but he's not. I'm partly to blame for his behavior. I should've been a father to him. He didn't ask to be here and because my bad decisions, he's the one suffering. But now Connor is suffering because of him. I don't know what to do anymore. Stan was right about one thing, I didn't mean what I said. But how can make things right…?
