AN: Hello! Welcome to the next update of my story! I was really surprised by how many people read the story! My heart was soaring with every review, favorite and follow! :D I'm glad to have interested you all and I hope that I continue to do so!
Shinsou is the next person to encounter Midoriya. Right before entrance exams, too! I think we all know what his wish is going to be. :3c There will be mild swearing in this chapter from Shinsou. As you all learn a little more about Midoriya's quirk and situation, I will be updating a little quirk sheet on Midoriya as an end notes. I will only include this if there is something new that you learned.
I hope you all enjoy!
Shinsou Hitoshi growled as he stalked through the streets of Musutafu. The entrance exams for UA were a month away, and he was determined to accomplish his dream of becoming a hero. It didn't matter that everyone called him a villain. Who gave a fuck about what they thought of him? They were the villains. They were the ones that were quirkist bullies. Taunting him because no one wanted to be friends with the "future villain." So what if Shinsou had no friends? Almost everyone was a judgemental asshole. He didn't want friends who were like them, and it was better that way. Shinsou didn't need friends. They would just distract him from his goal of becoming a hero. And he would be one, no matter what anyone else said.
Shinsou angrily kicked a can that was lying on the street. It bounced off a wooden fence before clattering loudly against the sidewalk. Wooden fence? Shinsou blinked in confusion as he stared at an out-of-place wooden fence outlining a weird shop. What was this shop doing here? He'd never seen it there before, and he passed through this section of the city all of the time. The insomniac looked around, noting how people continued walking by without looking at it. Did they even see the shop? "Hey, excuse me." The teen stopped a man that was walking by. The other person looked at him, slightly annoyed at having been disturbed from whatever mundane thing he was doing on his phone. "Do you know what this shop sells?" He gestured to the wooden shop behind him.
The man's gaze followed Shinsou's direction, and the teen's eyes widened when the man's gaze went past the wooden shop and looked at the next one over. "Yeah, it's a pharmacy. Look, kid. I gotta go. Was that all you needed?"
Shinsou nodded, dumbfounded as the man continued on his day. He looked back at the wooden shop. "What the fuck just happened?" The teen walked up to the fence, so he could see the sign propped up on the store's roof. "Midoriya's Wish Shop?" He snorted in amusement. "Yeah, that's just a stupid gimmick. There's no way this shop sells wishes." The purple-haired boy turned and walked away. However, something inside him kept telling him to go back. To enter the shop. Shinsou managed to ignore it for 3 blocks before the desire to return became overwhelming. "Fine! I'll go back! Stupid shop making me curious." He quickly made his way back and walked up to the door. There was no 'open' sign or store hours, but it was late afternoon. Most shops wouldn't close for another couple of hours. With a sigh, Shinsou decided to just test the door. To his surprise, the door swung open with barely a push. Bells announced his arrival, and Shinsou decided to look around. Honestly, he wasn't impressed with the store. The foyer was so bland. There was nothing except a pair of shoes by the door and a cushioned bench.
"Welcome to Midoriya's Wish Shop!" Shinsou almost jumped at the high-pitched greeting. He spun around to see a young kid with dark green hair bowing to him. His long white kimono trailed over the floor. Soft pink sakura flowers peppered the fabric from his shoulders to his stomach. The kid looked up, smiling happily. "My name is Midoriya, and I'm the owner of this shop."
This kid? He looked like he just started middle school. "Cute joke. You barely look ten, kid. Seriously, though, where are your parents? I want to ask them about the name." Shinsou smirked as the kid puffed his cheeks in annoyance. Heh. He looked like an angry kitten. Okay, maybe Shinsou was rude, but seriously? This wish shop gag was getting old.
"I'm the same age as you, Shinsou Hitoshi!" Midoriya crossed his arms and huffed.
That caught the insomniac off-guard. How did he-?! He glared at Midoriya. "How do you know my name? I never told you!" Was it part of his quirk? Maybe that feeling to enter the shop was his quirk? Was he tricked? Shit! Shinsou straightened up, preparing himself to fight if necessary. He may have just stupidly walked into a villain's trap!
Whether or not Midoriya knew of the rising panic he had caused Shinsou, the boy calmly shook his head and gestured the newcomer to follow him. "I know your name because you were destined to come here. Only people with a wish can see and enter my shop." Destined? What sort of nonsense was that? Shinsou didn't believe in destiny. It was just a dumb concept that people used as excuses for things. However, he was curious about that last part of Midoriya's statement. Shinsou wanted to know more about that, but it seemed like Midoriya wasn't going to say anything else at the moment. The boy walked down the hall, and Shinsou hesitated before deciding to reluctantly follow him. He still didn't trust him, but maybe Shinsou could get some answers about what the shop was and why he was the only one who could see it. A good reason for it, anyway.
Before he fully stepped out of the foyer, he noticed that the left hallway was blocked off. Muffled voices were coming from that area, as well as the sounds of banging. "Please pardon any noise. Part of the shop is under renovation." Shinsou stared curiously at the area. Did that mean other people could notice the shop? Then why didn't that man? Resolve strengthened, Shinsou continued following the other teen through the right hallway. The two entered the living room, and Midoriya sat down in an armchair. 'Guess the other one is for me.' Shinsou sat down and immediately sank into the soft chair. It was so comfortable. "I have some tea and cookies if you'd like some, or I can get you something else if you want something different. Once you're ready, please tell me about your wish."
Shinsou sighed and forced himself to sit up. The tea and cookies looked good, but Shinsou waited until Midoriya took a cookie before grabbing one for himself. One could never be too careful. "So, you're actually telling me that this shop grants wishes."
The green-haired teen smiled warmly at him. "I understand it is a weird statement, but it is part of my quirk. I can grant wishes for a price."
Price? Like, money? Shinsou figured the shopkeeper couldn't grant his wish without the purple-haired teen's consent if the fact that they were in a shop was anything to go by. Shinsou sighed again. "Fine, can't hurt to tell you. I want to be a hero. I'm applying to UA, and their entrance exams are next month. My wish is to be in the UA hero course."
"Ah, I can grant that! But I'll need something in return." Midoriya's glowing green eyes roamed over Shinsou. Glowing? The teen narrowed his eyes slightly. When did they start glowing? He watched as Midoriya's gaze stopped on his bag. "Can I see that key chain in your bag's front pocket?" The other teen gaped at him in shock. How did he know that was there? Carefully, he opened his bag and pulled the chain out. It was a simple purple keychain with a grumpy-looking cat's face on it. His mom joked about how much the cat looked like him. Maybe it was silly to be so protective of a keychain, but it was special to Shinsou. His mom and dad were the only people who ever supported him in his dream of becoming a hero. He didn't want to hand his mom's gift over to this person he just met. At the same time, this could provide him the answers he wanted to know about Midoriya's quirk and the shop. Should he hand it over? His reluctance must've shown as Midoriya tried to comfort him. "I'll be careful with it, I promise." That didn't mean much, but Shinsou's curiosity about the shop won over. Besides, he wasn't giving the keychain to the guy, just letting him look at it. Shinsou placed the item in Midoriya's hand and watched as the boy gently inspected it. "Yes, this will do nicely. Tell me, this was given to you as a gift, wasn't it?"
Was this kid a seer or something? Shinsou blinked in surprise. Okay, everything about Midoriya was strange. The kid looked younger than his age but spoke as though he was an old fortune-teller. Was it really because of his quirk that he knew his name and what the keychain meant to him? A simple wishing quirk wouldn't have this kind of power, though. It didn't make sense. Did Midoriya have a wishing quirk? He needed to play along for now. Figure out what was really going on here. "Yeah, it's from my mom. She gave it to me because she knows I've been having issues at school."
"A mother's desire to protect her son from unjust discrimination. What a beautiful gift." Midoriya wistfully looked at the item in his hands. That was a little odd... Then again, Shinsou just realized Midoriya avoided his earlier question about the boy's parents. Must be a sensitive subject. "I can grant your wish, Shinsou, but I'll need this keychain in return."
Shinsou stood up, snatching the chain from Midoriya's outstretched palm. "No way! I am not giving you this. You keep saying that you grant wishes, but I've yet to see it. I'm not giving you this unless you grant my wish first." Truthfully, Shinsou had no intention of handing it over at all. He just assumed that Midoriya would admit that his 'wish-granting' was all a big hoax if he kept pushing.
The shopkeeper didn't react at all to Shinsou's outburst. "You can't get something from nothing, Shinsou. I have an item that will help you pass the entrance exam, but I need something of equal value in return." He pointed at the cat keychain. "That keychain represents your mother's desire to help you. To remind you that even though others doubt you, she supports your dream. In return for the keychain, I can give you something that will help you with your goal to become a hero."
Shinsou tightened his grip on the chain. More doubts sprung up in his mind. Maybe Midoriya really did have a wish quirk. Maybe he really would grant his wish. But, it sounded like he was going to be given an item. How would an item help him pass the test? What item would it be? And a villain wouldn't want a keychain, right? Not when they could ask for money or something more valuable. Shinsou really didn't want to give up the keychain. Still, the teen couldn't ignore the increasing possibility that Midoriya was telling the truth. What could he do to ensure that he wasn't screwed over? He was broken out of his thoughts when Midoriya spoke again. "How about this." Shinsou glared at the other boy in annoyance. "You trade me the keychain, and if you don't make it into the hero course, you come back, and I'll return it to you. Deal?"
The purple-haired teen hummed in thought. He… guessed that would work. There wasn't any assurance that Midoriya would return the keychain if he didn't get in. Still, it meant there was a way to get it back if Midoriya was lying. If he was lying. There were some strange quirks out there, and maybe a wish-granting quirk wasn't as far-fetched as he thought. There was the fact that Midoriya not only knew about the keychain and its significance, but also there was that weird mess where no one passing by could see the shop. Was Midoriya telling the truth? Was he lying? What if his wish actually came true? He gripped the keychain tightly in his hand. This chain meant a lot to him, but he knew he needed to make sacrifices to become a hero. He had to become a hero. His mom wouldn't mind if he'd given up the keychain if it meant he got his dream, right? She would be really happy for him. She and his dad would probably encourage him to take the chance if it meant he'd get his dream. Shinsou gathered up his courage and shoved the keychain into Midoriya's hand. "Here. Take it before I change my mind."
Midoriya quietly thanked him and stood up. "Wait here, please. I need to put this in the storeroom and get the item you need." Shinsou plopped back onto the armchair with a huff. He couldn't believe he just did that. Shinsou really hoped he wouldn't regret what he just did. The teen sighed as he relaxed into the chair again. It really was comfortable. He was just starting to nod off when Midoriya walked back into the room.
"I'm happy to see that you enjoy my chair! I made sure to get comfy ones." Midoriya giggled as he stopped in front of his customer. He beckoned for Shinsou to hold out his right wrist, and the boy did so reluctantly. The shorter teen quickly tied a thick, garish, multi-colored twine bracelet around his wrist. "This is a special friendship bracelet that will help you get noticed by the judges during the entrance exam if you are wearing it. That will guarantee your entrance into the hero course."
Shinsou scrutinized the bracelet on his wrist. It was tacky, full of many colors that clashed with each other. Would this little thing really grant his wish? There was only one way to find out. "Okay. I guess I'll make sure I wear it on the day of the entrance exam." The teen stood and stretched with a tired sigh. Maybe he was leaving with more questions than answers, but Shinsou knew he wouldn't learn anything else about Midoriya and the shop today. It was getting late, and he needed to leave now if he wanted to make it home by dinner. "If that's all, I'm gonna head out. I still need to work on some homework." With a small wave, Shinsou walked out of the room. He passed by some construction workers in the foyer, who waved at him as he passed. The teen returned it half-heartedly, too focused on the tacky bracelet that Midoriya had given him to realize other people were inside the store.
The whole walk home, Shinsou couldn't stop thinking about the bracelet. He hadn't taken it off, and he could feel the weaved twine rubbing against his skin. A friendship bracelet. How was a friendship bracelet going to get him into the hero course? Shinsou really didn't know. It's not like he knew anything about friendship, to begin with.
Midoriya's Quirk: Wishing Well
• Midoriya's quirk not only tells him the name of the person whose wish he will be granting, but also what the wish is, what would constitute as exact payment, what that person needs for the wish to be granted, and how that wish will be granted. This has resulted in a large storeroom in Midoriya's shop, filled with payments from wishes that have the potential to be useful in someone else's wish. This is one omniscient aspect of Midoriya's quirk.
• Can see strong wishes in his dreams. This includes naps. When he receives this information about a wish, he can see the general locations of that person and a portion of their routine for the day as a way for him to locate them. This is part of the omniscient aspect of his quirk.
• Midoriya's eyes will glow slightly when his quirk is telling him how to fulfill someone's wish or when he is granting someone's wish. While his dream tells him who has a wish, what their wish is, and where they will be, he has to meet the person to see how he can grant their wish and what the payment will be.
• His quirk is the reason why people can't see the shop and forget about him if they don't have a strong enough wish or that wish has been granted. This is because [REDACTED].
