Emma wakes up after a terrible night. She is facing her nightstand and on top, it's her watch. Unscratched, marking 8:10am. She grabs it, looking at it curiously. Maybe her mind is playing trick, or she is going insane. It really doesn't matter anymore. She puts it back on the table.
She is suddenly startled by a voice behind her. "Read one word, and I'll kill you".
That voice… that sultry, honied voice. She dares to turn around and screams. Loud, very, very loud. In fact, they both scream.
A mortified Regina tries to calm Emma down "I was just kidding! it was a joke, ok?"
Emma jumps from the bed, wide eyes. Not believing what is happening. There, in front of her is Regina. Looking as beautiful as always "You're, you're, you're here!"
"Yes yes, and you're scaring me" says Regina while walking towards Emma.
"I, I, I..." Emma cannot form a coherent sentence. She must be dreaming. Maybe her subconscious is playing a trick. She still can see Regina's eyes looking so lost, without a single sparkle of life.
"You...
You...
Okay, I'm gonna approach you" says Regina slowly. Trying to comfort a clearly petrified Emma.
"and and, now I'm gonna hug you"
Emma felt a rush of emotions. It was like she was given an electroshock. Her tensed body now felt lightweight.
"It's okay, everything's gonna be okay" Repeated Regina while burning her noise in the crock of Emma's neck. "I'm really gonna miss you" she adds.
A crying Emma cannot believe it "Me too, I really will miss you Regina. I hope you know that".
She grabs Regina by the side of her face, looking directly at her eyes. She needed Regina to understand her words, to feel her love. "It's important that you believe me."
"I believe you. And I would hate, hate for you to have to go through so much pain, so, instead of missing me, why don't you come with me to Ohio?" an excited Regina asked.
Emma's brain is running 100 miles per hour. She starts hyperventilating "Regina…." She says while walking away from Regina one more time.
"You're definitely not coming" states Regina.
"I can't" an incredulously Emma replies putting her hand on her head to ground herself.
Trying not to show her disappointment, but failing beautifully Regina adds "Of course you can't, work, I know, big meeting..."
Yesterday's memory keeps crashing down. Emma walks in front of Regina while putting all the piece together "I... I had a meeting... and you..."
"Emma, calm down. Calm down!" Regina approaches Emma, linking her arms on her neck and looking at those eyes that are staring at her mortified. "Look, you're very prepared for today
and you're gonna be great" Regina kisses her to seal her statement; but Emma knows it won't be great.
"Don't go anywhere. What are you doing?" exclaims Emma when Regina walks in direction to their closet.
"Sit" Regina says while pushing her toward the bed "don't move your cute blonde ass"
"There's a gift."
"There's a gift" Regina confirms.
Emma starts muttering "This can't be happening"
Regina shows her face through the close door "Well of course it can. I like buying things for you,
and I wanna say goodbye properly"
Regina walks out the closet wearing a red leather jacket "Vintage genuine leather" she says while holding the jacket together at the front. "Plus, look at this" she says excited while open the jacket and showing a beautiful and very naked body.
"Oh my God!" exclaims Emma while looking at a different direction.
Feeling self-conscious Regina put the jacket back on before adding "Okay, not the reaction I was looking for"
"I'm sorry, I just, I had a terrible nightmare. And I can't seem
to get rid of it" Emma tries to apologize.
"I... and you..."
"We?" ask an expecting Regina.
"We..."
Tentatively, Regina adds "should... eat?"
"Yes, yes! We should have breakfast. Let's have breakfast, together" Emma's mind keeps running, maybe it was a nightmare. A freaking, terrible nightmare. Everything will be fine today. Maybe there is a sense of dejavu in some of the things that transpired this morning, but at the end it's a nightmare. She thinks trying to calm her racing heart.
"Okay" says an awkward Regina while walking backwards to the kitchen.
"I am the coolest" says Emma while dressing in front of the mirror. She suddenly realizes she is wearing the same outfit as her dream. She takes the jacket off and it's finding a new jacket when she hears Regina "I am the coolest"
"Regina?" says Emma rushing to the kitchen in a desperate attempt to warn Regina about the hot kettle. "Watch out, the coffee pot!" she yells. But Regina it's using mittens and looks at her preoccupied "I see it, crazy yelling woman"
"I know, I just thought you might hurt yourself" she gets close to Regina as kisses her softly before going back to the bedroom.
Regina is in the bathroom curling her hair while signing.
"Regina" Emma calls.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Am I too loud?" She says looking at Emma through the bathroom mirror.
"No. I was actually hoping that you'd sing"
Blushing Regina adds "You need to get out more", and Emma turns her around and Regina left the curling iron on the sink "You are a great songwriter. And you need to let people see that. It's an amazing gift"
"You're biased" says Regina kissing Emma soundly on the lips. Things intensifies quickly and passionate kisses are shared. Regina is touching Emma's torse through the blouse she is wearing and slowly makes her way down with the intention of touching those legs she loves so much when she suddenly makes contact with the hot curling iron. "God, I am such a klutz"
Emma freaks out at this "You burned yourself on the hand" she says pointing her finger to Regina's hand
Sardonically Regina replies "Keen Powers of observation". She runs to the kitchen to run some cold water on her hand while Emma is left in the bathroom with a complete mess up head.
They end up leaving the apartment. "Emma, what's wrong with you? I burn myself
with that damn thing every other day"
"You do?" a preoccupied Emma asked.
"Yes, I do". Regina stops at the light in order to cross the street when notices Emma going on a different direction "What are you doing?"
"We always go that way" Emma points out
Smiling Regina replies "And do you know why?"
"Why?"
"Because that's where you work and I teach" answered Regina. She cannot stop smiling at Emma. She is such a goof.
"Let's try a new way. Loop around. It might be fun!" Emma says taking Regina by her hand.
They keep walking down the Toronto streets. "I like this route better, don't you?" asked Emma. She is trying to sound cool and collected; but she heard a bike coming their way. She turned around and there it's the bike that will mess up Regina's clothes with coffee sting. So in a impulse, she grabs Regina and protects her with her own body like a real knight in shining armour saving her Queen from the most incredible dangers.
A stunned Regina asked "Care to explain?" while disentangling from Emma.
"I just thought the scooter seemed a little... speedy" says Emma walking she start walking again.
"Watch where you're going!" She hears and then the sound of a beverage hitting the floor.
"You've got to be kidding me" a very mad Regina yells.
Emma turns around looking at Regina "It wasn't a dream."
"What?"
"All these things happening today, every single one, I already knew
they would happen" Emma is scare.
"What do you mean?"
"The leather jacket. The burn. The coffee spilled on your sweater. I already saw or dreamt those things. Some happened a little differently, but..." she is freaking Regina out.
"Okay Emma, calm down. You know, sometimes I've had deja vu, and it..."
"But it's not deja vu. In deja vu... it feels like it's already happened. You don't know what's going to happen"
"Alright, what happened in the dream that freaked you out so badly?" asked Regina trying to stop Emma ranting.
"It was... it was awful"
"Okay. Let's be logical about this. In your dream or vision or whatever, what happens next?"
Emma thinks about it before responding "You go back to the apartment to wash your sweater and I go to my meeting"
"That is awful"
"On the way to my meeting, my watch cracks" Emma adds remembering
"Okay. So here's what we're going to do" Regina says linking her hands with Emma's. "We'll walk to your office together. And if your watch cracks... then we'll know something's
going on, and we'll deal with it… Okay?"
Emma simply nods in understanding. While they start walking toward Emma's work.
They are almost there. Walking hand in hand. Emma loves the feeling of Regina's hands against hers. Finally, they are in front of the building. Regina decides to test the waters "Do you have the time?" Emma's face still shows concern, so she adds "Sorry. Watch. Sore subject"
Emma carefully looks at her watch. It feels like ages to perform this simple task. "It's fine" she sighs loudly and happily.
"You're just nervous"
"You're right, I'm sure you're right" and they keep on walking.
"So, you okay? You ready for the meeting?"
Emma stops to look at Regina before replying "Yes"
"Good luck. Not that you need it. You're going to be great" says Regina.
Giving a last kiss to Emma she adds "I'll see you tonight at the concert"
"Concert? What concert?" playfully replies Emma. She quickly adds "I was kidding.
That was me kidding" Still Regina doesn't find it funny. "You know, the blondie sense of...
Nevermind" She stops realizing she is saying too much.
"Bye"
"Yeah, see you tonight" and they parted ways.
Emma is talking with her assistant Ruby; trying to put everything in order before her meeting "Do me a favor. Call Tantra and push my reservation to nine" Ruby nods.
"And have someone dash over to Harvey Nicks. I need a present for..."
"For Regina's graduation concert? You forgot, didn't you?. I reminded you twice" Ruby beats her to it.
"Yes, no, I don't know. I don't know if I did or didn't forget. I forgot yesterday,
but I don't think I forgot today" says Emma while walking further to her office.
Suddenly noticing Ruby's attire she asks, "Did you wear that yesterday?"
"Quite possibly. On the pittance you pay me, I've only got a few things"
Omitting the harsh retore Emma asks "Claire, can I ask you a question?"
"If you must"
"Did you ever have a dream and the next day everything feels familiar? You know, like it's
from the dream?"
"Yes. I have. For example last night, I dreamt that you would bore me to death
first thing this morning, and lo and behold..." Ruby explains with a very serious face.
"Come on, seriously"
"Seriously?"
"Yes"
"Emma, I believe dreams are very important. They should be listened to"
"You really think so?" asked Emma
"Yes… And I also believe that you should get over to that meeting... or you'll be fired,
and I'll be on the dole" Ruby adds before leaving.
Emma is now in the meeting room. "And those are AGS's main objectives. To design new ways
to treat, cure, or prevent the countless illnesses that inflict humankind" she can stop looking back at the door, expecting Regina to show off at any time.
"I'm happy and more than a little proud to report... that AGS is way ahead
of the competition in this area…"
"Now..." she mutters under her breath, still expecting at the little brunette to show up, but nothing is out of the ordinary.
"in terms of your investments..." she cannot stop looking back but she quickly realizes everything is fine. Nothing will happen, so she keeps going "these 7-year projections clearly document everything we've discussed so far. We've amortized the cost of the
research over a 10-year period…"
Meanwhile, Regina is behind Emma looking her through the glass door of the room. She is holding the black folder but notices a similar folder in Emma's hand, so she retracts and leave.
At that exact moment, the doors to the conference room open and Emma exclaims "I knew it!
I knew you'd be here!" tuning around she finds one of the assistant bringing some coffee to the audience.
She gives her an awkward and apologetical smile. Emma breathes out and look back at the investors in front of her…
"Okay. You've heard my pitch, and I can tell by the unbridled excitement on your faces..." She takes off her jacket and try to look more relax. "Come on, guys. Settle down. This is not a party.
This research isn't about perfect projections or amortized costs or beating the competition. It's about giving people the most precious gift possible... time"
"This is a great opportunity, and I say grab it. What do you think?" she finishes her speech.
After the meeting, Emma goes to meet with the guys at the pub.
"Did you land the money?" asked Killian.
"I did" they celebrated.
"And it was the strangest thing because the other time when Regina walked into the meeting, I thought she messed everything up" she says. They looked on their faces reminder her that she hasn't told them about the dream. "Oh, I didn't tell you guys about the dream I had… Of course not, because that would be tonight"
They look at her like she is crazy "Okay. Tell us about the dream"
"It's more of a déjà vu"
Kills adds "Deja vu. Sometimes dismissed as a random neurological event...
but is often a message from deep within the soul. And when the soul comes tapping
at the door, it's time to let him in"
"Oprah" other guy references
"Nop" Killian says "Dr. Phil"
Emma interrupts "No, no, no. That's not what I'm talking about.
There are certain things that I know are going to happen"
A waitress passed beside them "Excuse me? But haven't we met before... in my dreams?"
Emma hears Killian say.
"Oh, just piss off, will you?" says the waitress
"You see? I knew that would happen" affirms Emma
"We all knew that would happen" added someone else
"Can you remember anything useful? Like the 3:30 winner at Newmarket?"
"No I'm afraid not. But everything's the same. It's just in a slightly different order" Emma thinks, at that point Killian decides to play pool and a ball comes Emma's way, but she easily catches it as her mind was expecting it.
Slightly different order. She thinks while looking at the pool ball.
"I've got to go" She suddenly says. Rushing out the street she grabs a cab "Mackenzie street, please"
"Yes, sir" The cab driver replies and Emma recognizes him from his dream. "You've got to be kidding me"
"Excuse me, sir?"
"You're the driver from yesterday" she accuse him
"Anything's possible."
"Yesterday you knew certain things about me" Emma states
"About your love life?"
"Yes" The driver confirms "Yeah well people in my profession
are second only to barmen...in knowing about problems of the heart"
"And that, you said that exactly" says Emma looking at the driver through the rear mirror.
"So if you're the same, if this cab ride is the same... then everything else today will be the same.
At the end of the day, my girlfriend gets into this taxi...it stops at a light,
it's hit, and she... Is that going to happen?" She asks afraid of the answer
"Is it?" she pushes "What if she doesn't get in the cab? What if I take her out of Toronto?
Maybe if we stay in the apartment..." Emma is desperate from answers. She is trying to put a plan together in her head.
"Tell me, what can I do? There must be something I can do!" she ask in desperation.
"Just one thing" replies the cab driver knowingly "Appreciate her. And what you have. Just love her"
Emma wants to get out of the cab, but the door is blocked "Will you let me out?
Let me out right now!"
"Certainly, sir"
Emma takes out her wallet in order to pay for the ride, but the driver dismisses her attempt. He doesn't want her money. "Why not?" Emma asked
"You paid me yesterday" was his answer "Better hurry up. You haven't got much time"
Emma is out of the cab and rushes down the street. Her only concern was to get to Regina on time. She needed to be there. She tries calling Regina, but the phone is off.
She gets to Regina's work and walk pass by a bunch of kids. She enters the first classroom she can find and ask for Regina's whereabout. Unfortunately, she didn't get the expected answer.
Emma remembers Regina's student…Oliver and decides to look for him. Entering room by room she starts asking for Oliver and look for a familiar face, but nothing comes to mind. She is tired and decides to go back to their apartment to find a clue for where Regina may be.
At her apartment she finds Regina's calendar and show that she was schedule to help Kat. She goes to Kat's building and knocks like a mad person. Nobody answers.
"Can I help you?" she hears a voice behind her.
"Hi. I know you don't know me. I'm a friend of Kat's. This will sound really strange,
but I need to get into her apartment"
"Never seen you around before" replies the janitor.
"Actually I'm her best friend's boyfriend. Do you know Reginal Mills?
"Of course. I love miss Mills. Everyone does. If I was just
a few years younger..." said the janitor with a dreaming face, at that Emma notices the name on the janitor's jumper Oliver.
She is lost. She doesn't know what to do. She is trying, but she can get to Regina. The janitor takes pity on her and let her in Kat's apartment. She looks for any clue as to where they may be. A poster in the middle of the room catches her attention "Zinc!"
