"You are supposed to be resting."

Peter turned around and came face to face with Nebula. He was outside looking up at the stars that he could see, trying to identify the constellations that were in the sky. It was later at night and everyone had already gone to bed but Peter couldn't sleep so he decided to get some air.

It's been a hectic few weeks for him...

"Yeah...couldn't sleep though." He admitted to her before turning back around to face the night sky as he rubbed his right nub that has been hurting for a few hours. He acknowledged Nebula as she moved over next to him to give him company but neither of them said anything.

"You're not...affected by them." She asked after a couple minutes of peaceful silence. She didn't need to specify what she was talking about, she knew that Peter would understand.

He sighed, "They do...I...don't really like remembering them but, from down here it's not like how it was when we were both in that ship. I couldn't escape them up there...down here I can go inside and not look at them or wait till day. But-" He trailed off at the end. He didn't need to finish though because Nebula nodded, seemingly understanding what he was getting at.

They stood there underneath the stars for what felt like hours, just staring. Through that time though he saw Nebula was a little antsy. She was clenching her fist every now and then and she also kept biting her lip, like she wanted to say something but couldn't find the correct words.

He waited there though, for her to make the first move. He knew it was better to let her come to him if she had a problem, and not try to force the problem out.

"Thank you."

"For what?"

"For being there for me. Not a lot of people have done that for me and...I really appreciate it that you took the time to care." She admitted.

"I could say the same to you. Most of my life was lived with really bad people, like you. I was trained, forced to kill, everything that I hated about myself they gave me. So...thank you for doing the same with me. Means the world." He said without even looking at her. He could see how she slightly smiled at his words, and she didn't even try to hide it.

"You're leaving, aren't you?" Peter asked, but he already knew the answer to that question. He knew that she wouldn't be able to stay forever.

"Yes, the Rabbit and I will be heading out tomorrow on the ship. To try and, help other planets that need help. I'm pretty sure Danvers is heading out tomorrow too." She said.

Yeah, Peter figured that. Some of the others already had left. Thor went over to a piece of land that was agreed would house the rest of the surviving Asgardians. He was pretty sure the land was located somewhere on the coast of Norway. Rhodey had to leave to help organize the government after everything that had happened, Peter also knew that as soon as he was all cleared, Banner would be leaving too, and Pepper and Tony left to go and set up their Cabin that was a couple hours away with the help from Harley and his boyfriend Harry.

Apparently, Pepper was pregnant so there was at least some good news for Tony.

Peter also heard that Harry was gonna take up Oscorp since his father had dusted too. He hasn't talked to the young man since being back on earth but he probably should soon.

The only people that would be staying at the compound would be Steve, Sharon, Natasha, Gwen, Ana, Peter and Mary Jane.

But Peter had an idea that would hopefully change that really soon.

He had to go back to the city to see what the damage was in a few days. That's when he would go to his apartment and pack up all his shit which was step one of the plan. He also had to see how much of his vigilante family was still kicking.

That was something that he was dreading and looking forward to at the same time...

He wanted to put this plan into effect. The plan that he was talking about with Mary Jane before he got so rudely interrupted by a wizard.

The one with the cabin...

He's pretty sure Stark stole the idea from him...

Anyways, the point he's trying to make is that he knew people were leaving, but he didn't want the most important people to him to leave too.

So, the plan was he'd make blueprints for a cabin big enough to house everyone. His sisters, his mom, Steve, Tony, Pepper, literally anyone who wanted to stop by that was in their family would have a room.

But just because he had some of his family on earth, it didn't mean that he wouldn't miss the few people who would have to leave again.

"Well, I wish you safe travels then Bellatrix. I'm really happy that you're going out there to help others. Helping people got me through one of the toughest parts of my life, so it'll help you too." He said, finally turning his head over to look at her. He offered her a gentle smile and nodded his head once. She smiled back at him before they both turned back to look at the stars.

Suddenly Peter pointed up to a cluster of stars, "That one right there is Bellatrix, the third brightest star in Orion." He said. Nebula looked up to the star he was pointing to. She could see it formed a shape but she didn't try to understand why humans named it "Orion".

"I'll miss you." She admitted, changing the subject to something that she has been trying to say since she came out looking for Peter. Peter turned and set his left hand on top of her shoulder and smiled at her.

"And I'll miss you too. Don't get into too much trouble out there ok? I won't be able to come and help." He tried to joke with here, causing her to smirk back at him.

"I'm pretty sure I should be saying that to you. I've only known you a few weeks but you seem to find trouble a lot."

"Ain't that the truth." Peter sighed. He turned to look back at her one last time though, "Seriously, be careful out there."

Nebula smiled, "Of course." Without another word, she turned and walked back over to the entrance of the compound, leaving Peter to his thoughts.

Which was never a good thing to do...

————————————

Peter walked into Sister Margaret's with his head held high. As soon as he made it past the door for everyone to see him, he was met with shocked looks from everyone that was there.

He could see a couple of the regular mercenaries that frequent the bar constantly but other than that, it was pretty empty except for one table in the back.

Where he could see the people remaining...

He walked up to the table and offered the others on his way a nod and a quick smile once he passed them. As soon as he made it a few feet away from the table, the people sitting down looked up and recognized him.

Colleen...

Claire...

Felicia...

Matt...

Weasel...

"Is this all?" He asked somberly before any of them could get a single word in. They nodded with tears in their eyes. He sighed before he walked over and sat down next to Matt.

"Not even Wade?" He watched as Matt shook his head and Peter exhaled a breath. He's seen Wade come back from being blown apart limb by limb, to know that Wade was dusted really stung, a lot.

"So, only four vigilantes remain, ain't that some sad shit." Peter said, rubbing his face with his left hand. That's when Claire realized his right hand was underneath the table, hidden from their view.

"What happened to your hand?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. All the others turned to look at him, waiting so he knew what he had to do. Claire wouldn't let him leave unless he showed her.

He took a breath before he placed his right arm on the table. They took notice of the absence of his left hand as best as he thought they would. Felicia and Colleen were looking at him in sadness, Weasel grimaced when he saw it, Matt frowned a little bit more and Claire was looking at him with sympathy behind her gaze.

"Umm, Thanos got a few good hits in." He admitted.

Claire scoffed, "Yeah, I'd say he got more than a couple hits in, you look like complete shit."

"Well I was stranded in space for three weeks so I was starving to death up there. Sorry I couldn't get back to you all sooner." He said.

"Don't worry about it Pete, not your fault." Matt said, still staring down at the table.

"Still, wish I could've been here for you guys."

"You're here now, that's all that matters." Colleen said with a small smile for the young man.

Peter looked around again to try and take a head count on who was gone and not before turning back and looking at Weasel, "How many did you lose?"

"Most of my workers are gone Pete. I got a couple waiters but all the bartenders dusted, no one left but me, and I guess now you."

"Do we know how many bad people dusted?"

"Fisk is definitely gone but his wife isn't, some enhanced people escaped prison during all the confusion too and I'm pretty sure they were people you put there. We've been trying to hunt them down but between the three of us and everything else that has happened it's been really hard to keep track of the leads." Matt said.

"I'm gonna take a guess and say that Karen and Foggy are...?" He asked hesitantly, getting a nod from Murdock.

"Shit, we literally are the only ones left."

"Yeah, it's a real shit show." Weasel said.

Peter breathed in before he continued talking, "Listen, I won't be out in the suit for a little while, I need to make myself a new hand and heal up a bit before my mother guts me alive. That will at least take another few weeks. Then after that I'm gonna be moving to right outside the city, gonna build a wooden cabin from scratch. I found a nice piece of land that I already bought. I probably won't be back out patrolling regularly for at least another month. So with that said, I'm trusting the three of you to protect New York while I'm gone. I know you'll do fine." Peter said looking at Felicia, Matt and Colleen. They all nodded their heads at the young man, silently promising him that they'd look out for everything while he was gone.

Peter looked down at his watch that was resting on his left hand now and clicked his tongue, "I have to get going before everyone freaks out cause I'm not at the compound anymore."

Matt smirked at him, "Why, did you sneak out?"

"No…maybe. They think I'm on a walk, they didn't know that I came here and since I've been back they all have been a little...protective."

"Yeah I wonder why, it's not like you were gone for three weeks or anything." Felicia playfully smirked at him, causing him to chuckle.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. Anyways, I'll see you all later alright. I'll check up with the bar soon and come to help you out man." Peter said to Weasel, placing his hand on the man's shoulder. The older man nodded to Peter before he got up from his chair and made it over towards the door.

He walked out of the bar and inhaled the air of New York City as soon as s his feet hit the pavement.

He didn't smell fresh air though, it was tainted with the remains of millions of people's lives.

Or it at least smelt that way to Peter...

The young man quickly made his way over to the car and started the drive back to the compound, trying not to think about the subject anymore...

———————————-

"Hey Steve."

Peter said as he walked up to the man when he got back up to the compound. He found the soldier in the hallway leading up to the common area of the building just staring at the wall. He looked up when he heard someone call his name and smiled slightly when he saw it was Peter.

"Hey Queens, how was your walk?" He said with a slight smirk on his face.

"Ohh it was great, really stretched out the legs for a change." He smirked right back at the older man, causing a little chuckle to escape his mouth.

"You know all the girls are gonna kill you for that little stunt you pulled."

"Damn, how long did it take them to figure out?"

"Give or take five minutes."

"Shit, I'm losing my touch."

"Yeah, aren't we all." Steve sighed, looking back at the wall. Peter had a pretty good idea what this was about. He knew the loss of Bucky was hurting the Captain a lot more than it was anyone else.

Peter was indeed saddened by Bucky's death too, after all he did go on a few missions with the man during his stay at the Red Room and these past few years he has had the chance to really get to know the man.

But this was Steve's brother, nothing could compare to what he was going through...

"I'm sorry."

Steve huffed, "You really need to stop apologizing for things you didn't do."

"I could've stopped him, saved the word from all this pain." Peter said.

"If that's the case, then the rest of us are equally as responsible. You can't blame yourself for something like this, it'll eat away at you."

Peter hummed like he didn't quite believe the man, but decided to drop the topic for now. Steve picking up on the conversation change, decided to speak up.

"So, are you gonna make yourself a new hand?" He asked.

Peter nodded his head, "Yeah, I talked to Okoye a few days ago and made a deal with her. I wanted my hand to be made out of Vibranium and with Wakanda being the only place where it's located, I asked if I could have some. This morning it was delivered so I'm gonna go into the lab right after this to work on it."

Steve raised his eyebrow at him, "You're not gonna need any help?" He said, referring to his only one working hand.

Peter smirked at the Captain, "I'll be fine." He said before walking away towards his lab without another word. He could hear Steve's silent chuckles from behind him which made him smile a bit.

On his way to his lab though, he almost ran into Sharon. He quickly placed his left hand on her shoulder to steady her so she wouldn't fall and she grabbed his shoulders with both of her hands.

When she looked up, she smiled at him before her face became serious and a light glare replaced itself on her face. She crossed her arms under her chest and raised an eyebrow at him.

"And where have you been?" She asked.

"Oh, you know, just a walk." Peter nodded his head, deciding to toy with her for a little bit. She scowled at him before lightly hitting him on his shoulder.

"They've been worried about you."

"You mean they're being over protective about me? Yeah I know. They've barley let me leave the Medbay since the rest have come back." Peter rolled his eyes.

"Well, they just care about you Pete. They don't like seeing you hurt, none of us do." She said, the glare finally falling off her face.

"I know they do, it's just suffocating sometimes when all I want to do is get up and do something."

"Yeah, you've never been one for bed rest have you?" She asked rhetorically causing Peter to smirk.

"Hey while you're heading this way you might wanna check on your boyfriend, he's pretty down in the dumps staring at the wall all moody and broody." Peter said a little more quieter. Sharon face turned a little concerned before she sighed.

"Alright, I'll head that way now. But don't think this conversation is over. You're lucky I'm the one that found you first and not your mother." She said.

Peter waved her off, "Yeah yeah yeah, I know. I expect Mary Jane and Tash to storm into the lab once they know I'm in the building." He said as he moved past the woman to get to his lab.

"Alright, it's your funeral!" She called after him causing him to snort, but he kept on moving towards the lab.

Peter walked into his lab and sighed before moving over to his work station where his blueprints were already brought up with the vibranium on his station in front of them.

He sat down at his chair and started to finalize the final product of his hand. He didn't want it to stand out to much, but he wanted to model it after James' arm in honor of him. His hand would be this nice, dark gunmetal grey color and where Bucky's hand had gold trimming, his would have black carbon fiber trimming. It would also have a replicate of his webs inside it.

He had made a formula for his webs that were almost identical to his natural ones. The only difference is that the manufactured webbing was a little weaker than his webbing.

He also had to figure out a way to incorporate his powers in the hand...

That was not easy...

You see, the only way that spiders can climb up on walls is because they have all these tiny little hairs that help create loads of contact points between the spider and whatever surface they are trying to crawl on. Which in turn increases said spider's ability to hang onto the surface.

The tiny hair like structures would be made out of some vibranium, not a lot though so they could still be really flexible and be able to move around freely like any other hair.

He really hopes it fucking works...

He was so invested into his research and planning that he didn't even realize the two people who walked into his lab. Mary Jane and Natasha both shook their heads at the young man before they made their way over to him.

They silently watched as he edited his blueprints and muttered to himself in Russian while his eyes bounced back between all his research and the blueprint for his new hand.

"I see you're back and didn't care to inform us." Natasha started off with a raised eyebrow with her arms crossed. Peter then turned around and came face to face with two women who were not amused.

"Umm, I don't got an excuse...I'm sorry?" He said with a raised eyebrow and a small smile on his face. Mary Jane sighed after a few seconds and moved over to sit next to him on the bench to his right. Natasha shook her head fondly at the young man before she too moved over to stand right behind him.

"I see you're working on that hand of yours." She observed. Peter hummed going back to his blueprints.

"Yeah, trying to find a way to incorporate my powers into it." He said.

"What about how you're gonna control it? Don't you need surgery to add in like, substitutes for the nerves that you lost? So they could send the signal to your brain?"

"Yeah I'm gonna need the surgery, but for now I'm just gonna place some sensors on the stump that will allow me to have limited movement of the hand until I can place the actual sensors under the skin." Peter replied.

Mary Jane frowned, "But wouldn't it make sense to just get the surgery done now? What are you waiting for?"

"I wanna make sure everything works on the hand and sensors before I make it official, just to be sure. You never know if something could go wrong so I'm just being prepared." Peter said. She nodded her head before changing the subject.

"What were you doing in the city?"

"I had to see how many of us were left. The only ones that survived were Matt, Felicia, Colleen, Claire and Weasel. Everyone else is gone..." He whispered but the two women could still hear him.

"Oh no, Peter I'm so sorry." Mary Jane said as she placed her hand on his shoulder while Nat rubbed her hands through his hair to try and soothe him. Peter sighed and leaned into he older woman's touch, causing her to smile at him.

After a couple seconds of silence, Peter looked up at the two women, "So, I have something to talk to the both of you about. Yesterday I bought a price of land right outside the city, right next to the forest. Lots of land, our own lake, no one for miles around, and better yet there is nothing on the property. Which means we can build whatever we want." He said. He could see that Natasha was interested in what he was saying but Mary Jane had already figured it out, since she was the one he told first weeks ago.

"You're talking about the cabin right?!" She exclaimed, catching Nat's attention.

"Well, more like a wooden mansion. It's gonna be huge. There's gonna be so many guest rooms, a giant kitchen and living room, so many different rooms for entertainment, like a gym and movie room and ohh, I have so many ideas!" He said, pulling up some blueprints for a giant cabin. Mary Jane and Natasha looked on in shock, the house was giant.

There was a giant garage that could probably house five cars, a balcony that wrapped around most of the house, giant windows that would give people a clear view of the wilderness surrounding the land, there was even blueprints for a enclosed space for a kid and a dog. They could see a dog house to the side of the 3D model and what looked to be a swing set.

Natasha smirked down at her son, "Planning for the future?" She asked l, causing both Mary Jane and Peter to blush.

Peter cleared his throat, "I...like to be prepared." He said before he turned to look at Mary Jane, "So you know how you said you'd think about the thing I wanted to get, what do you say? Can we get a dog?" He practically begged his girlfriend with puppy dog eyes. Her eyes soften a bit and she pretended to think about it before she sighed in resignation.

"Fine, we can get a dog."

"Yes!!" Peter exclaimed as he shot out of his chair and pumped his left hand into the air in excitement. Natasha looked at her son with clear love and affection behind her gaze. God, she's so happy she didn't lose him, she didn't know what she'd do if he was among the dusted.

After his mini celebration, he looked over to Natasha and smiled softly at her, "I also want you to move in with us, if you want to that is. I don't really want you to stay here all by yourself and I heard that Steve and Sharon are moving to a place in Brooklyn and if you stay you'll be all alone-" Peter didn't even get to finish his rambling before Natasha had him wrapped up into her arms against her chest. She placed a kiss on the side of his head before leaning her head slightly towards his ear to talk to him.

"I would love to." She whispered into his ear, causing him to smile and relax against her. After a few seconds they pulled apart and smiled at each other.

"I also have something to say." Natasha said. Peter looked at her and saw that behind her eyes, there was a touch of nervousness, excitement and affection all mixing together.

"What is it?" He asked in concern.

"The umm, adoption is gonna be a slow process since technically you don't exist anymore. We're doing it through what's left of Shield though so we have a little more room to work with but they say that the papers won't be done processing for a few weeks." She said, smiling gently at him.

"Hey, that's fine, I can wait a few weeks to be "legally" yours. Some paper that the both of us have to sign doesn't change the fact that you're still my mother." He replied. He could see how she subtly exhaled a relived breath which caused him to smile even more, knowing that she cared so much about him.

When he heard a beep, he turned around and saw that the final blueprint of his hand was done rendering so he sat back down to take a look.

It looked great to be completely honest. It was basically a replica of his real hand that he had to take measurements on, but it was ten times better. And Peter realized deep in the confines of his head, that this was basically another chance.

His old hand had done really bad things to people and was stained with so much blood that no matter what he did, he'd never get the stains washed away. But with this new hand, this hand hadn't killed anyone, hadn't strangled innocent people, hadn't wielded a gun and shot people with.

This was new, fresh, pure...

Now it couldn't erase his part in all those people's deaths, but at least this new hand wasn't metaphorically submerged in pools of blood.

Damn that got morbid...

He shook his head to try and break out of the trance he was in to focus back on his new hand. He smiled at the designs before pressing the complete button and getting up from his seat.

"What're you doing now?" Mary Jane asked, also getting from her spot on the bench.

"Now we wait a little bit for the hand to finish building." He replied.

An hour later Mary Jane, Natasha, Ana, and Gwen were all sitting down in the common room doing their own things when Peter walked in, with both hands connected to his body.

Natasha instantly took notice of it and walked up to the man and inspected it. After close inspection, she looked back up towards Peter, "You can move it right?" She asked. Peter nodded his head and started to slowly rotate it around a little bit at the wrist and clenched his fingers into a fist after he was done with that.

"I can also feel it when you touch it but not like my other hand. The movement will be more fluid when the sensors are under my skin and I'll be able to feel more when I get the surgery done." He said before moving towards the the couch and sitting down next to Mary Jane.

As soon as he sat down, she placed her head on his shoulder and sighed. He wrapped his arm around her and laid his head down on top of hers too. He then looked over towards his sisters after a couple minutes of silence and raised an eyebrow at them.

"You were informed about the cabin right?" He asked. Knowing his mother though, she probably told them the minute she walked out of the lab.

Ana nodded, "Yeah, and can I just say that I love the idea!" She exclaimed with a wide smile, causing both Gwen and Peter to softly laugh at her antics.

"Well it won't be done for a few weeks, I still have to give the blueprints to the construction team and tell them were I want it built. So for the time being were all gonna have to crash here."

Gwen frowned, "Who's gonna look after it while we're gone?" She asked. Natasha was about to speak up when Peter cut her off.

"I was thinking that the four of us could go on rotation. So the first week Ana and Gwen could deal with all the Avengers stuff, then the week after that Tash and I could come and worry about it. So we'd all just be on rotation every other week for missions or meetings or anything that has to do with the Avengers since Steve is taking a step back from all of the hero stuff for awhile. It'll mainly only be the four of us, Rhodey and the people in space. Plus the people still left in Wakanda." Peter said. He could see how everyone was milling over the idea in their own heads before they all nodded their consent. It did sound like a pretty solid plan.

"Sounds like a decent plan, you come up with it all by yourself?" Ana teased him, causing the young man to scowl at his sister.

"Watch yourself Yahontov, just because I only have one good working hand doesn't mean I won't kick your ass." He smirked at her, which only caused her to smirk back.

"Yeah? You think I'm scared of you? That's funny coming from the one handed spider."

"Ohh, you're playing with fucking fire now."

The other three occupants of the room all smiled at the interaction between the siblings. They're all really happy that after all Peter has gone through, he still holds his head up high and pushes through whatever the universe decides to throw at him.

They knew that things would be hard for a while, and things would probably never get back to what they used to be.

But they would all be there together to keep each other from falling apart.
