Steve sighed as he got up and walked out to the front of the compound to wait for Peter to arrive. He couldn't believe that they were actually gonna be doing this, getting everyone back.
He's tried so hard to move on from everything that somewhere along the line, he forgot how much he missed the other half of his family. How much he missed Bucky.
Even thinking those words left a bitter taste in his mouth, almost like betrayal to his late friend.
The old Captain looked up though when he saw a car that was speeding over and turning into the entryway to the compound. Once it got to where he was standing, the window rolled down and the man could see Peter in the drivers seat, Natasha in the passengers seat and it looked like Gwen in the back.
Peter turned down the music that was playing so he could speak to the man, "So, I'd offer to make you lunch, but I think we got something more important at the moment." Peter said, reiterating the words that Steve had said to him the day before.
"Hey, I'm alright with a peanut butter sandwich." Steve smirked at the young man causing him to snort.
"Yeah, I can still throw one at you if you want? I got a killer pitch." Pete said, stepping out of the car.
"Yeah? Maybe you should play baseball then."
"Hey when we're done with this, maybe I will." Peter shrugged before he opened the door for his sister and let her out of the car.
Natasha got out of the car and smiled at the super soldier, walking up to the man to pull him into a friendly hug, "Hey Steve."
"Hey Nat."
"So, what's the situation? How many we got?" Peter said, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Well Scott is here, Bruce just got here, Rhdoey is on his way, so is Nebula and Rocket, Danvers won't be here on time, and someone needs to go get Thor, then there is us." The super soldier said.
Peter strolled to the trunk and pressed the button, "That sounds like a pretty good outcome." He said as he pulled out a newly cleaned and upgraded shield. "I fixed her up for you, took it out of storage and everything. Polished it and made sure it's still at your preferences."
"Peter...you didn't have to do that." Steve said, taking the shield from the young man.
"I know," Peter said with a chuckle. "But, I guess you're part of my family too, so I didn't want you to go on this mission empty handed, pun intended by the way." Peter smirked causing Gwen to smack him on the shoulder and Natasha to smile fondly at him.
"Hey, maybe after all this is over with, I'll let you have the shield for a little bit, give you a taste of what it is to be Captain America."
"I might take you up on that Brooklyn," Peter said with an amused smile before he turned a little bit more serious, "Hear me out on this, We got a shot, not plural, singular, as in one. Just one at getting the stones. I don't wanna die doing this. I have a kid back at home who my lovely girlfriend and sister is watching after. Bring back what we lost? Abso-Fucking-lutely, but I've got to keep what I have. No matter what the cost, do you understand?"
"It's a deal." Steve said and they shook hands. They both smiled at each other and nodded.
"Also, keep that little gift quiet, will yah? I didn't bring any gifts for everyone else." Peter whispered to the man, causing Steve to chuckle at the young man's attempt at keeping the atmosphere light.
The four of them walked into the compound and made their way into the common room where they could see Scott and Banner sitting at the table and eating some tacos.
As soon as they got into the room, the two men turned to look at who had entered and smiled when they saw the three newcomers.
"Hey guys, want something to eat?" Banner asked, holding out a taco, which looked hilarious since his hand was so big.
"Sure, we could eat."
After they had all eaten, Bruce tuned to look at Peter, "So when Rocket gets here, we were gonna go and get Thor, do you wanna come with us?" He asked. Peter smiled up at the big green scientist.
"I'd love to."
——————
Bruce, Rocket and Peter were all sitting in the back of a small truck as they traversed the green countryside of Norway. They passed a sign that was labelled "Welcome To New Asgard, Please Drive Slowly."
Which made Peter snort a little in amusement when he saw it.
They stopped at a small town on the coast which was apparently New Asgard. Bruce, Peter and Rocket got out of the car and looked around at the remaining Asgardians, living like normal humans.
"Kind of a step down from a golden palace and magic hammers and whatnot." Rocket mumbled under his breath, causing Peter to glare at the raccoon. He was about to say something when Bruce spoke up first.
"Hey, have a little compassion, pal. First they've lost Asgard, then half the people. They're probably just happy to have a home." He said. He then turned back around and he spotted Valkyrie, a warrior woman who Peter has only heard in stories, he's never actually met her. She was already looking over at them so Bruce started to walk over to her.
"You shouldn't have come!" She said with a small smile at seeing Banner.
"Ah, Valkyrie! Great to see you, Angry Girl" Bruce replied, smiling back.
Valkyrie looked Bruce up and down before clicking her tongue, "I think I liked you better either of the other ways."
Bruce points at his fellow companions, "This is Rocket and Peter."
"How you doin'?" Rocket said, nodding at her.
"Lady Romanov's son?" She asked with a raised eyebrow.
"You know me?" Peter said, crossing his arms.
"Thor has a lot of stories to tell, I've only ever heard a couple with you though," she said. Valkyrie then became a little more somber, "He won't see you." She said.
"That bad, huh?" Bruce asked hesitantly.
"We only see him once a month, when he comes for...supplies." She said as she looked over to the side where there were kegs of beer and all sorts of other alcoholic beverages.
"It's that bad." Bruce said, phrasing it like a statement rather than a question.
"Yeah." Valkyrie nodded somberly.
Rocket, Bruce and Peter all started their walk up the hill towards the God's house where Valkyrie said they could find him. When they got to the top, Rocket slowly opened the door and peaked his head in.
Rocket Grimaced once he got all the way in at the smell, "What the... Woo! Something died in here." He exclaimed.
"Hello? Thor?" Bruce called out.
After a couple seconds of waiting, a voice that they all recognized as Thor called out from the other room, "Are you here about the cable?"
After another few seconds, they could all hear footsteps making their way over to them. But as soon as the god made it around the corner, all three of them were shocked. Thor, who was shirtless, had definitely put on more than a couple of pounds since they had last saw him.
He had a beer belly...
"The Cinemax ran out about two weeks ago, and the sports were all kind of fuzzy." Thor said as he grabbed a beer.
"Thor?" Bruce asked hesitantly.
Thor then turned around and came face to face with Bruce, Peter and Rocket, just standing there. A huge grin then plastered itself onto the God's face, "Boys!! Oh my God! Its so good to see you!" He said as he made his way to Rocket a brought him in for a hug against his giant stomach, "Come here, you little rascal!"
"No, I'm good. I'm good. That's not necessary."
"Hulk, you know my friends, Miek, Korg, right?" Thor said, gesturing to his other friends that were in the house.
Peter and Rocket turned and saw both Miek and Korg sitting on the couch with a PlayStation controller in hand, playing Fortnite and eating chips.
Peter winced when he saw the game, not believing that these aliens have grew an interest in Fortnite, of all the goddamn games out there, they had to chose that one.
Such an overrated game, no one even plays that piece of shit garbage anymore...
"Hey boys!" Korg exclaimed, waving at them.
"Hey guys, long time no see." Bruce replied respectfully with a small smile at seeing them again.
"Beer's in the bucket. Feel free to log on to the Wi-Fi. No password, obviously." Korg said as he turned back around to his game. Peter pulled out his phone and went to settings for a quick second and what he saw was hilarious in his opinion. The name of this was so ridiculous, he was having a hard time keeping his snort at bay.
Thor's Thunder Network
Before he could say anything though, Korg spoke up, "Thor, he's back. The kid on the TV that called me a dickhead again."
"NoobMaster." Thor said menacingly, glaring at the tv.
"Yeah, NoobMaster69 called me a dickhead."
What, the actually, fuck...was happening...
Thor walked over to Korg and took the alien's headphones and spoke into the mic to this supposed, NoobMaster.
"NoobMaster. Hey, it's Thor again. You know, the God of Thunder? Listen, buddy. If you don't log off this game immediately, I'm gonna fly over to your house, come down to that basement you're hiding in, rip off your arms and shove them up your butt!!! Oh, that's right, go cry to your father, you little weasel!" Thor yelled into the mic. Bruce and Rocket looked completely lost at what to do, while Peter looked between them in amusement.
Thor placed the headphones back into the awaiting hands of Korg, "Thank you, Thor."
"Let me know if he bothers you again, okay?" He told Korg, receiving a nod from the alien.
"Thank you very much. I will."
Thor then turned around to face the other three, "So you guys want a drink? We have beer, tequila, all sorts of things."
Thor then moved over to the table where his hammer was resting, and used Stormbreaker to open a bottle of beer and started to drink it. Bruce decided to walk up to him and the doctor placed his hand on the God's shoulder.
"Buddy, you all right?" Bruce asked with concern leaking from his eyes.
"Yes, I'm fine! Why, don't I look all right?" He said, gesturing to himself.
"You look like melted ice cream." Rocket said with a more quiet tone to his voice, showing how really concerned he was for his friend.
Thor just laughed the both of them off, shrugging over Bruce's hand, "So, what's up?"
That's when Peter decided to speak up from his spot leaning against the wall, "We need your help. There might be a chance we could fix everything."
"What, like the cable? Cause that's been driving me bananas for weeks." Thor said, pausing in the middle to burp into his hand.
"Like Thanos." Peter said. The mood in the room suddenly crashed down like a building, Thor's smile completely disappeared and he slowly walked over to Peter and placed a shaky hand on the young man's shoulder and pointed at him.
"Don't say that name." He said, glaring at him. Korg stood up and placed his headphones back onto the side table.
"Um, yeah. We don't actually say that name in here." Korg said hesitantly.
Bruce then walked over to the two men who were having a stare off and placed his hand on Thor's hand, the one that was on the younger ones shoulder, "Please take your hands off of Peter." He said and didn't continue until the God did so, "Now, I know that... guy might scare you."
Thor huffed with a small smile, "Why would I be? Why would, why would I be scared of that guy? I'm the one who killed that guy, remember? Anyone else here killed that guy? Nope. Didn't think so. Korg, why don't you, tell everybody who chopped Thanos' big head off." He said, walking over to the table to grab another beer.
"Umm... Stormbreaker?"
"But, who's swingin' Stormbreaker?"
"Look, I get it. You're in a rough spot, okay? I've been there myself, but you wanna know who helped me out of it?" Bruce asked gently.
"I don't know. Was it... Natasha?" Thor smiled up at him.
"It was you. You helped me." Bruce admitted.
Thor walked over and looked out the window and pointed at the people down in the town. still holding his beer, "Why don't you ask the, Asgardians down there, how much my help was worth," he said, dropping down onto the armchair, "The ones that are left, anyway."
"You won't have to worry about that last part, cause we have a way to bring them back." Peter said.
"Stop. stop, okay?" Thor exclaimed as he opened up a packet of M , "I know you think I'm down here wallowing in my own self-pity, waiting to be rescued and...and saved. But I'm fine, okay? We're fine, aren't we?" He said, gesturing to Korg and Miek, who were eating pizza and playing their game once more.
"Yup, all good here, mate." Korg said.
"So, whatever it is that you're offering, we're not into it, don't care, couldn't care less. Goodbye." He waved them off and took another swing of his beer.
Bruce looked at his old time friend in sadness, "We need you, pal." He said but Thor only shook his head and ignored Bruce.
Peter rolled his eyes and then raised them at the God, "There's beer on the ship."
Thor looked down at his beer before slightly looking up, "What kind?"
Peter smirked.
On their way back, the young man pulled up his phone to see if he could make it in time. He had finally found out Clint's next move before he even got there, so hopefully he'd be a step ahead of the archer.
He didn't tell his mother either cause he wanted it to be a surprise.
"Hey Rocket, can you drop me off in Japan? I need to deal with something real quick." Peter said, turning to look at the other three.
Rocket shrugged, "Sure, but you're gonna have to find your own way home, I'm not waiting for your ass to finish whatever business you've got there."
"That's fair."
——————
"What I want... You can't give me." Peter watched as his uncle took down these assholes that were stirring up trouble. He's gotta admit, the man's become an excellent killer but, Peter knew that Clint's only mourning the lost of his family, in his own way.
Peter watched as he thrusted the blade downwards into the guy's stomach. The body of the Japanese man fell to the ground, completely devoid of any movement. Clint grabbed the sword and wiped it off in the crook of his elbow, ridding the blade of the blood.
That was when Peter decided to make his presence known. He made a slight sound with his foot to alert the spy of his presence.
Clint having caught a glimpse of who was underneath the umbrella, grabbed his mask and slide it off his head, revealing the broken eyes of a man who has gone through so much since the snap, a man who has lost everything, including his sanity.
He turned his head around slightly to look at the young man who was standing behind him with the umbrella held in his fake hand, with casual clothes on.
"You shouldn't be here."
"Neither should you." Peter answered.
"I've got a job to do."
"Is that what you're calling this? Killing all these people isn't gonna bring your family back, and you know that." Peter said with a soft look on his face. He could see Clint's eyes start to water with all the emotions from the past five years that he's buried.
"It's not different from what you do kid." Clint said with a small smile.
Peter huffed, "What? You trying to be more like me now? That's pretty sad, I'm not the best role model around." Peter smirked at the man, causing Clint to chuckle softly.
"Yeah, people like us just have different ways of protecting people, don't we."
Peter shook his head, "No, you'll never be like me, I'm all sorts of messed up. No matter what you've done these past few years, I promise you I've done worse." He said. Even if Clint was acting out of character, he'd still never surpass the amount of shit that Peter has done in his life.
No one would ever be able to top all that blood on his hands...
After a second of silence, Peter spoke up with a gentle tone of voice, "We found something. A chance, maybe..."
"Don't..." Clint said, openly crying now.
"Don't what?"
"...don't give me hope."
Peter walked up to the man and placed his hand on the man's shoulder, "I'm sorry I couldn't get it to you sooner."
——————
The next morning at the compound, everyone was in the testing room, with Bruce and Scott.
When Thor, Bruce and Rocket got back, they were instantly questioned on where Peter was but all they told them was he had to stop in Japan for something. Something that they didn't even know about.
Natasha and Gwen didn't really like that answer but they couldn't do anything about it until Peter got back.
Bruce and Scott were in the testing room trying on the suit that was just made from Peter's designs. That was the moment Rhodey then decided now was the perfect time to arrive.
The man looked the suit up and down before nodding "Time travel suit? Not bad."
Scott was about to say something when Bruce picked up one of the containers of Pym Particles. The man quickly took it out of the green guys hands, "Hey, hey, hey! Easy, easy!"
"I'm being very careful."
"No, you're being very Hulky."
"I'm being careful." Bruce said again, holding one of his hands up.
Scott held up the red glass bottle full of the particles, "These are Pym Particles, alright? And ever since Hank Pym got snapped out of existence, this is it. This is what we have. We're not making any more." He exclaimed frantically.
"Scott, calm down." Rhodey said, raising an eyebrow at the man.
"Sorry. We've got enough for one round trip each. That's it. No do-overs. Plus two test runs." As soon as he said that, he accidentally pressed the button on his hand that made him shrink down. A couple seconds later, he grew back to his normal size, "One test run."
The rest of them then made it to the testing chamber where Steve, Nat, Gwen, Bruce, Rhodey and Nebula are standing, all of them looking at the Ant themed superhero.
"All right. I'm not ready for this." Scott said, suddenly very nervous about the plan.
Just then, Peter and Clint decided to make their entrance.
The both looked at each other and had a silent conversation with each other without uttering a single word. Then they walked over to the wall and leaned against it before Clint called out to them.
"I'm game. I'll do it."
The reaction was immediate, everyone in the room turned to look at the voice and they all stared in shock when they saw Clint leaning against the wall with Peter smirking at them all.
"I had to pick up something before we all got started here, figured this guy would want to be part of it all." Peter said as he moved forward. When he passed by Clint, he patted his shoulder before walking over to his mother who was looking at Clint in shock.
He stopped right by her and smiled. She shook herself out of her shock to stare up at her son with gratitude before she launched forwards and brought him in for a hug.
"Thank you." She whispered into his ear before pulling away, placing a kiss on his forehead, and walking up to Clint.
Peter then walked over to Nebula. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see how she slightly smiled when he did so, causing him to smile too.
He's missed her a lot...
A few minutes later, Clint walked back in wearing the suit Scott was in moments before, the suit that was dubbed The Quantum Suit by the man.
Which was, in Peter's opinion, real original...
Could you sense the sarcasm?
"Clint, now you're gonna feel a little discombobulated from the chronoshift. Don't worry about it." Bruce called out to the man.
"Wai-Wait a second, let me ask you something. If we can do this, you know, go back in time, why don't we just find baby Thanos, you know, and..." Rhodey said as he made a hand gesture suggesting that they strangle baby Thanos with a rope.
Everyone turned to look at the man in disgust. Steve and Scott looked horrified, Clint was looking like he was thinking about it though, Nebula, Natasha and Gwen were glaring at the man and Peter had one eyebrow raised at the Colonel with one of his famous glares directed at him.
Bruce then decided to talk, "First of all, that's horrible..." the man didn't get far before Rhdoey interrupted him.
Rhdoey looked at the doctor with a raised eyebrow and responded in a tone that suggested it didn't matter, "It's Thanos."
Bruce continued on, not even giving the time to respond to the man, "...And secondly, time doesn't work that way. Changing the past doesn't change the future."
"Look, we go back, we get the stones before Thanos gets them... Thanos doesn't have the stones. Problem solved." Scott said like it was so easy, which actually caused Peter to snort and shake his head. These people had no idea how stuff like this worked.
"Bingo." Clint said, completely agreeing with their logic but it wasn't that simple. The only ones that didn't believe that who were in the room was Gwen, Bruce, Nebula, Peter and Natasha. Mostly because if both Peter and Bruce said it was wrong, it was wrong.
While Steve just looked on in confusion...
"That's not how it works." Nebula deadpanned.
"Well, that's what I heard." Clint said, which caused Peter to shake his head.
Before the young man could say something though, Bruce turned to look at the archer, "What? By who? Who told you that?"
"Star Trek, Terminator, TimeCop, Time After Time "
"Quantum Leap"
"A Wrinkle in Time, Somewhere in Time"
"Hot Tub Time Machine"
"Hot Tub Time Machine. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Basically, any movie that deals with time travel." Rhodey finished looking at the doctor, "This is known."
"I don't know why everyone believes that, but that isn't true. Just think about this for a second, If you travel to the past, that past becomes your future. And your former present becomes your past. Which can't now be changed by your new future." Peter said staring at everyone in the room. Literally everyone but Bruce and Nebula stared at him like he was crazy.
"Exactly." Nebula nodded.
After a couple seconds of silence, Scott spoke up in the most betrayed voice that he could muster, "So... Back To The Future's a bunch of bullshit?"
Peter snickered, "Sorry man, that shit don't work in the real world."
After a few more minutes of calibrating the machine that Bruce, Rocket, Nebula, Scott and Peter had made after the design of Scott's van, they were ready for their test run. Clint was on top of the platform while everyone else was standing by the controls waiting for Bruce to complete the final cheeks.
After a second, Bruce turned to look up at the man, "Alright, Clint. We're going in 3... 2... 1!"
The helmet to the suit formed around the archer's head and encompassed his entire face with the familiar red and white colors that were on the rest of the suit.
Peter had made the designs for the suits the other night when he found out how to navigate the realm. He wanted to make them as protective as he could so he made them out of some vibranium nano bots.
He also decided to make the designs matching so everyone would look the same.
After Bruce counted down and hit zero, Clint went quantum, down into the realm.
Clint rematerialised on the glass platform five seconds later, breathing heavily and sitting down on the platform.
Natasha then ran up the platform with Peter not that far behind, and both of them crouched down next to the man, "Hey, hey. Look at me. You okay?"
Clint looked up at the two of them before he handed the baseball glove that he had in his hands over to Peter, "Yeah, it worked. It worked." He said with a look behind his eyes.
Peter looked down at the glove in his hands and smiled...
Maybe they could actually pull this off...
