6: Rodent

Linkle finds her way up to death mountain, the daytime light was bright and warm, she picked a good time to travel as she wasn't sure if it was going to rain or not. She had left her wagon at the bottom with the kind Goron who helped her up the first hill.

Courage must have run in her veins as she thought of her relatives who voluntarily chose to live in each region of Hyrule in order to be able to protect more of the land in times of trouble.

Link didn't force warriorhood on any of his children but he did raise them on his values and perhaps they thought this was the way.

Linkle liked to think there was good in everyone but circumstances and other factors helped turn people twisted and on the wrong path and she thought that was too bad.

Shaking herself out of her train of random thought, she had arrived at her uncle's small mountainside home. She knocked on the door.

Shuffling was heard from inside and a boy her age cracked the door an inch, demanding to know what her business with them was.

"Nice to see you too Daesyn" greeted Linkle with a bit of a smirk.

He recognized her after that comment and let her in before closing the door quickly behind her, sensing his nervousness she glanced around the main room, seeing her aunt in the kitchen and her uncle staring into their fireplace not even glancing at her.

"I brought a letter from my grandfather, uncle…." Linkle told him crystal clear.

Sorin sighed before facing her direction and receiving the letter from her.

It read near the same as her mother's and that Hyrule was nearing a dark age and he was currently rushing to his princess's aid.

Link escorted the Caravan into Castle town before hurrying towards the gates to the castle. He could tell there was a general aura of unrest in the city as they passed by several people lining up to start hoarding supplies that the soldiers were organizing in the alleyways of various vendors around each street.

Strolling up to the main gates/doors to the castle main entrance way. Two soldiers blocked his way.

"Sir, I'm sorry but the king is receiving no audience today, please come back tomorrow if you have any grievances." Said one guard in hushed tones as to not startle people walking behind him.

"I am here to see the Queen mother Zelda, summon her at once and tell her that the Twilight hero, Link, requests her presence…." Link demanded, using his hero status.

The two younger men paused before taking a closer look at him and recognized the Hylian shield on his back and the eerily familiar green garb of his tunic and floppy hat.

"Sir Link?" gasped the older one, surprised.

Link only glared, time may not be on their side and if anything happened to the Queen before he got a chance to…

Yelping the younger one quickly fled inside, abiding by the hero's request. 5 minutes passed before the gates were opened from the inside and he was granted entrance and escorted to the throne room.

Expecting Zelda, Link wasn't impressed when her son the King barged into the room, looking stressed and unimpressed at the interruption.

"What is so urgent you required an audience, Sir Link, honorable hero of twilight, knight of Hyrule and the Baron of Ordon?" he asked using his title back at him.

"No rudeness meant your majesty, but I need her majesty Queen Zelda, not you" replied Link tight lipped.

"Any business of my mother isn't private when I am currently King" he bit back, slowly losing his patience.

Grimacing, Link decided to tell him of his prediction to the Sulien as he could tell that Zelda wasn't coming.

Sulien was irked, by the power of the triforce pieces they held each, it seemed like Link already knew of the trouble ahead that was currently stirring.

"I assure you, her majesty is not ill or injured and is quite alright, also nothing politically devastating as you guessed has happened quite yet, we received a bit of threat of a breakdown of negotiations with the country of Dusana, but I assure you it is being handled and I'm not sure you are aware but are currently preparing for an important ambassador from Holodrum… I will inform my mother of your dreams but request you head back Sir Link" Sulien divulged all he was willing before dismissing Link and hurrying back into the side hallway back to his nobles and generals.

Left alone with the castle's steward, who was his guide from the gates. Link huffed but yielded and asked to be shown out.

They walked a few paces when a group of the higher lords of the court caught sight of them and asked why the hero was at the castle, Link explained he had already spoken to the king and they argued that a session of the court should be called and he shouldn't be deciding this sort of herald from the goddesses by himself, after all, the bearers of the Triforce pieces were very important people.

Link smiled lightly and said he would wait to be summoned inside again, and asked that Zelda also be present, it was very important.

Picking up a goblet of beer, a man in his late 20's quietly sipped his beverage and was trying to overhear a large and loud bunch of soldiers that were off duty who were complaining of their new orders in the past few days.

The princess of Holodrum was due to arrive in three more days and high security was to be maintained at all times, like instead of a state visit they were entertaining one of the enemies and something was going to go wrong whether they liked it or not.

"I heard from a buddy of mine on the border that Holodrum isn't a proper monarchy anymore," said one of the younger guys, a bit more hushed that the man in the corner barely heard the words he uttered.

"They still have a princess though?" whispered another.

"Sure she is the proper heir but she is merely a pawn, they got to keep up appearances don't they?" the other man ruffed back confidently.

"I heard Prince Auberon was engaged recently to marry her?" another popped up, a bit louder.

"King Sulien would be a total fool to marry his youngest son to another country in turmoil and rogue miners ruling the capital." the first soldier said, all jokes gone from his voice.

Sensing the fun was done, the others tumbled into other topics.

Finishing his beverage, the man in the corner paid for his drink and left the establishment, he had a meeting to get to.

Winding his way through the narrow streets and down one alleyway where there was a hidden wall via torch. He entered a secret passage to the castle through the sewer system, few people knew about.

Walking down some corridors and coming to a tower room that led up to the rooftops of Hyrule castle itself. He met another cloaked figure.

The man waiting for him lowered his cloak and revealed himself to be Prince Kaius, the brother of the King and Duke of Lanayru.

"What news is out there?" he asked unpassionately.

"The rumors you asked to spread are being talked about, if the Princess of Holodrum is legitimate and many civilians hope we don't marry Auberon to her," he reported.

"Hmph, well she isn't as long as General Draven is alive. I don't have time to stay, the other provincial Dukes have called court today in honor of our apparent guest, Lord Link… the baron of Ordon… who heralds news from the ghost of the hero of time… or so I heard so far. I want to know the moment her highness is on Hyrule field, on approach to the castle" he commanded swiftly before climbing the old staircase to the rooftops.

"Yes your highness" replied the man bowing to the prince.

Making his way back through the sewers and back onto the streets, he met up with the second man he was meaning to meet.

"I am scheduled to meet her highness on Eldin bridge in a day's time. Did you bring the intel?" the man whispered, glancing around for other spies.

The young man, acting as a double agent handing his cohort a scroll of info before making haste into the shadows blending amongst the crowded streets of peasants and civilians.

The sand storm, pausing their progress had ceased overnight and the entourage was on the move again, in the hour since they had left their spot on a random sand hill, they had crossed the border and now were in Gerudo Desert. Rosa was staring at the rising pillars of the Arbiter grounds, a ruined hyrulean prison, now a temple that the hero of twilight had ventured through in his adventuring days.

"Is it true that they held the most hideous criminal in Hylian history?" she asked Quartz.

"Yes, your highness. Even the gerudo thief Ganondorf, was condemned to the Twilight Realm for conspiring against the royal family of Princess Zelda, the sage of time's era." he mentioned.

"Twilight realm… huh" she muttered.

"Princess Midna of the twilight tribes cut off the portal when she returned home after Ganondorf's defeat by the hero of twilight" he continued with his short history lesson.

"So Hyrule cannot meet with the twilight tribes any longer?" she confirmed.

"Yes, they are no longer connected to our side of light."

Sitting back and ruminating, Rosa thought further on where the last piece of the triforce could have disappeared to since its holder's defeat.

She suspected that someone in a powerful position must have succeeded. Someone like the King's brother who would be next in line for the throne if something were to happen to the three princes.

Taking a small snooze, she awoke to them climbing down a steep hill towards green pastures below.

"Captain!" she bellowed, fully awake now.

Merrick's head popped through the fabric curtain.

"Where are we exactly?" she asked, a bit fearful.

"On the border of the Desert and Lake Hylia, your highness" he replied calmly.

"How long will it take to reach the castle?"

"One day if we don't stop for the full night, otherwise one and ½, Princess"

"We need to detour to the bridge of Eldin, and come back, I have business to attend to on the Generals' orders"

Merrick looked a bit irked with revealing of her plans, but calmly reassessed and said it would then take them two days, with good weather.

"Send a messenger ahead to announce our arrival, and let them know we are still in Gerudo desert, I don't want them knowing of our detour." she commanded swiftly.

"Yes, your highness." the captain echoed before leaving her window.

Back in Holodrum, Draven was browsing through old plans of castle defenses. He didn't trust Rosa, not to take the unique opportunity of escaping him or convincing his foot soldiers to turn against him, Merrick was probably the only one truly loyal to their cause, also being his younger brother.

It would be nice if Rosa managed to finalize her wedding plans and bring the Hylian Prince back with her but he already planned ahead for the more likely scenario of her not coming back at all.

The movement of supplies and food was possible because of the Subrosian alliance and he knew that they were more likely loyal to the royal family than him and so he needed to make a serious ally of another country to hold onto power and he was in the process of befriending Dusana.

Unaware to Rosa, Draven had his own spy infiltrate Hyrule and kept updates on the real time events he needed to know, to plan ahead and be ready for the world's outfall, once it was revealed that the country of Holodrum's monarchy had fallen to a people's republic.

Appearing from the ceiling, his spy Tobias, reported in.

"Princess Rosa has crossed into Hyrule and is still on route to the castle, which she should reach within two more days, nothing amiss seems to have happened. Dusana has threatened to break down treaties with Hyrule and King Sulien has sent their messenger back to his camp where King Rivan is awaiting him on the border city of Farrious, on the other side of Hyrule's Death Mountain in Eldin. There are reports of Queen Seralia being arrested for treason against Hyrule, on the King's orders so that's a problem and today I received word from a trustworthy source that the hero of twilight has arrived at Hyrule castle with premonition from the goddesses… court is now in session as far as I'm aware." he told the general.

"Indeed that's' a problem, I want an update tonight on what became of Hyrule's court session with the hero" he commanded.

"As you wish, Major General" Tobias answered before jumping back to the roofs.
