The young thief ran atop the rooftops of the capital, finally a way out, she was practically bubbling with excitement. It was hard to contain, a large smile appeared across her face, her ruby eyes shining as her golden hair flew freely
Once again looking at the insignia she had felt immense joy, she would sell the loot and make her way out of the slumps, her first step into her new life. No longer would she have to rely on old man Rom, or be associated with those losers who were all talk
She could finally be free
But as much joy as she held in the moment, there was another feeling, constantly nagging at the back of her head, pushing itself, growing ever more. Ever since she laid eyes upon that boy in that alley she couldn't erase the feeling of guilt, maybe she felt bad that she had done nothing to help, "but who cares" she had told her herself, its not like she knew they guy, so what if another random got robbed, that's life, not nothing she could do to change it
But what was going on with her, why did she feel this way?
She had seen others get robbed before, seen them beaten beyond compare, so who the hell is this guy to make her feel like that
The blonde thief shook her head, coming back to her senses, she dismissed the boy. Felt would focus on the future from now on
Chapter Four: My dear, do you not love me? ( Part 2 )
The sword saint had quickened her feet, she needed to find that women as fast as possible
Hearing tales from her husbands outings and information on the former witches cult Sin Archbishop of Pride, Theresia van Astrea knew just how dangerous the witch cult was
To think that a Sin Archbishop would escape her nonetheless
The cultist's words kept replaying in her head
"This lady has not come here for you, despite your fine textures, I am not looking for you, rather a meat far more important. If you wish to, this lady would ask you to wait to bat-"
She didn't let the woman finish her sentence, the sword saint had attempted to strike the Archbishop down, but to her surprise, despite her Divine protection of The Death God, her attack had hit but simultaneously been healed
The Archbishop replied at first with a cackle
"Despite this lady wanting nothing more then to put this well textured meat into its place, I simply do not have the time nor the patience to deal with this animal"
It was like the Archbishop lived in a world of her own
"Just what do you intend to do?!"
Theresia yelled out
The Archbishop gave her a frown
"this lovely lady is not obligated to share any of her information with you, as it would take up this ladies time would it not? and therefore the time in which I could be receiving praise"
The sword Saint finally had enough of the deranged lunatic obsessed with herself, she struck again but the blade seemingly missed, as her intended opponent seemingly shrunk into non existence
This was bad, Theresia was at a crossroad, her first action should have been to attend to the king but seemingly took a turn to fight a cultist, but now said cultist was gone, and the king was left to possibly be attacked
Theresia had remembered a piece of the Archbishop's ramblings, something about looking for "a meat far more important"
The Sword Saint could come to the conclusion that the Archbishop had been seeking out the King, but that didn't settle right with Theresia, and it obviously wasn't her as the sword saint. So then who? Who held a position far more important then the King or Sword Saint in Lugnica, who was the Archbishop after?
"I-I don't know"
The black-haired boy looked at the young girl in confusion
"hmmm, but this lovely lady can smell that horrendous stench of yours from miles away, truly if you can not realize it yourself then you are no more then a waste of time for this lovely lady~"
The young girl spoke in a tone similar to how one would demand praise. She had a smile that screamed "hey Im above you and there's nothing you can do about it"
She walked over, fists to her waist leaning over Subaru as he held his position on the ground
But Subaru was at awe, despite his first encounter, he couldn't understand why this girl was treating him as if she knew him
Not once could Subaru recall meeting this girl
The girl at question had long black hair with ruby eyes, and a black dress that screamed royalty, but what stuck out the most was that she was young, way younger than Subaru, if he had to guess she looked to be around ten, thirteen at the oldest
"While this lady does endorse the looks you give her, as its important to clearly recognize this lady as someone who deserves all your attention, passion, and love. But- I can not help but find disgust behind those eyes, if you were to continue to act like that, I might start treating you as the animal I had previously thought you to be"
"an-animal?"
Subaru began to understand this girl a bit, from what Subaru could come to, this girl had taken an interest in him because of his stench, however now that she took interest in Subaru, she was the type of person who would demand the entire room to silence itself upon her command. She saw Subaru as below herself and would treat him as such. But to Subaru, had he really smelt that bad?
"why of course, this lovely lady is the pinnacle of all love and affection in this world, perfection at its finest, its only fitting that those without my blessings are seen as animals, no greater then mabeasts"
"ma-beasts?"
Subaru was struggling to understand her, maybe due to the fact that he had just come from an entirely different world and wasn't acquitted with this country's terms and grammar
"hmph"
The girl let out a disappointing grunt, as if she expected more from Subaru
"truly your lack of knowledge disappoints this lovely lady, perhaps you are just a stupid animal meant to be ruled over"
Subaru was instantly annoyed; how could this girl expect him to know anything?
Did she not see the clothes he was wearing, how about his tone of voice, had he not looked foreign at all to this girl?
"hey lady, how can you expect me to know jack shit?!"
"wasn't my fucking choice to be brought here, to this country, to this world, fucking damn it all, from what I've seen I'd rather be home right now, so give me some fucking slack?"
And just like that, Subaru had instantly gained the interest of the girl in front of him
"home? Brought to this world~, this lovely lady cant help but wonder if you gone mad or if you're telling some tale"
"of course, to come from another nation would be believable to this lovely lady, but another world~"
"perhaps you are more then just an animal"
That smile, that lewd but psychopathic smile, its one that would be engrained into Subaru's head for the rest of his life
"of course- you wouldn't believe me bu-"
The girl quickly turned around, reaching for something in her dress, only to pull out a small black book
"What does that women want now, just when this lovely lady has found an item of interest to her, that women always has to make herself prevalent"
Subaru was glad for a second, avoiding the girls' ramblings he had gained a brief moment of peace before the girl once again turned to him, this time with a sinister smile just as lewd as before
"Natsuki Subaru, you are a candidate for the seat of Melancholy aren't you~"
Back in the present, the Great Spirit of Fire had causally satin down atop Subaru's head
From this view, Emilia could tell that Puck and Subaru were close, but she just still couldn't understand Pucks affection towards the boy, even if they had a previous relationship, Emilia hadn't been used to Puck being this comfortable with another person.
"what's wrong Lia, you look like you've seen a ghost?"
Her spirit opened one eye looking over to her
The half-elf shook her head
"Puck Im just not used to seeing you like this"
Puck gave a curious expression
"hmmm, well I guess you're right, but this was the norm for me and Subaru over here so maybe it's a bit odd from an outsiders glance"
Ouch, that actually stung the half-elf quite a bit
Emilia proceeded to look at Subaru, he looked nothing like how'd she imagine someone close to Puck would be
The boy had medium length unkempt raven hair that fell down right above his eyebrows, he wore a long loose poncho in navy-blue tone, and had baggy clothes sticking out where ever they could, also the same shade of navy-blue. He was white, extremely pale and had dark rings under his eyes, he clearly didn't take much care of himself
"soooo, Subaru was it, you seem awfully close to Puck?"
The boy glanced over to the admirable girl
"well~ I must say our stories quite the adventure, I could go as far to say that Puck here had saved me"
Emilia tilted her head to the side
"saved-you?"
"As I put it was quite the story, really, Puck had come to me in a time of needed, and we ended up forming a temporary contract, that's all"
The boy gave a slight grin
"ohhh, I see, so then Puck, before you came to me, you actually had other contractors"
The great spirit now getting up to cross his arms and give a smug look to his daughter
"well, I can't say there were many who peaked my interest, we both had mutual gains from working together"
The spirit replied in a smug tone
"I see, I see"
The silver-haired half-elf nodded in conformation, while she didn't get an over exasperated story, she was still satisfied with the answer
"as for the thief"
Subaru looked over to the silver-haired girl with a slightly more serious tone
"I remember her, kind of. Like I know her main features, mostly because she looks like someone I know, and I could probably draw her if I put in the effort but I could give you a basic description if that's alright"
The girl could do nothing but nod
"Red ruby eyes, and blonde hair"
Puck raised an eye
"say Subaru, that girl you're referencing wouldn't happen to be-"
"no not at all"
The raven haired youth quickly cut him off
"ah, I see"
Puck sighed, and mumbled to himself
"you really had me there for a second"
The trio would continue there way through the capital, slowly but surely making progress
Authors note:
Wow, I feel like the stories all over the place, so many characters in just the short first few chapters
So as you might know, the story is constantly flipping in between the past and present, I don't exactly enjoy writing stuff like "flashback", so you're just goanna have to bear with me lol. But im trying to add up the story a bit, Arc 1 is kind of a mid ground, enough flashbacks, but also focusing on the main point of getting to the loot house. I think Im goanna let Arc 2 take reign and really be that arc all about the past, with Subaru taking the wheel of the ship again.
Incase I couldn't write this clearly, Subaru doesn't act depressed around people he sees color in, while he still might seem cold, or bored, he at the very least isn't sad, and that's why he put such an emphasis on color and admiration, because when around these people he feels something other then Melancholy for once.
Anyway, hope you could enjoy the chapter!
