Lord Elrond clutched the sketch in his hands staring at his wife's portrait and sighed. It had been centuries since she had left him and their children, sailing away to the shores of Grey Havens. Even after so many years, Elrond wasn't sure what he felt most. Anger, disappointment, or abandonment.

"Ada.." Arwen called out gently to her father. She hated to see the pain etched on his face whenever he looked at the drawing of her mother.

His daughter's soft call of his name returned Elrond to his senses. He placed the picture back in a drawer and turned to gaze upon his beautiful daughter. A smile returning to his face. She and his two sons were his greatest treasures. Even after his wife, Lady Celebrian's abandonment he could never regret his time with her because it had given him his children which whom he loved more than life itself.

"My daughter I did not hear you enter. What can I do for you?" He asked approaching her and taking her into his arms. He held her close and placed a kiss upon her head.

"I hate her."

"Who my darling?" Lord Elrond asked, his face scrunched in confusion. His daughter was a kind and gentle soul. He did not think she was even capable of hatred.

"Mother…" Arwen whispered while clutching her father tightly.

Lord Elrond pulled back from his daughter while holding on to her shoulders. He looked at her face. It broke his heart to see the sadness there.

"You don't truly hate her my dear." He tried to soothe but it was wrong to say and only enticed her rage.

"Yes, I do!" Arwen shouted taking a step back from her father. She knew she had shocked him. His eyes were wide and his mouth slightly hung open. She never raised her voice. As long as they had been alive, Arwen had never raised her voice in front of her father. "She abandoned you! How can you not hate her for that?! You are the best father in the land and the kindest man I have ever known. You love my brothers and me unconditionally. How can you not hate her for leaving you?!" She continued to shout while tears began rolling down her cheeks.

"Oh, Arwen…. I could never hate your mother for leaving me…" He looked down sadly. He took a deep breath before looking into his daughter's eyes. He reached up and cupped her face gently while using his thumb to wipe away her tears. "But…. I do feel hatred at times towards her for abandoning you and your brothers. Even if she did not love me enough to remain for me how could she not find the strength to stay for her children. You deserved so much more." He said softly. He needed to stay strong for her and her brothers, Elrohir and Elladan.

It was at that moment that Arwen's hatred for her mother grew to tremendous proportions because it was in her father's words that she realized not only did her mother abandon him but she had broken him too. He truly believed he wasn't worth anything. His self-esteem was shattered. The great Lord of Rivendalle didn't think he was worth more.

"You have always taught us kindness and love... Told me that I was beautiful and worth the world but it pains my heart to truly see for the first time that you don't see yourself the same way. I've always tried my best to make you proud because nothing brings me greater happiness than seeing you smile father so forgive me if this disappoints you but if I ever laid eyes upon mother again…. I will slap the 'Xhan' straight into VALINOR for making you feel this way!" Arwen shouted while spinning on her heels and storming from her father's chambers.

Her father stood frozen in shock, never had he heard his daughter raise her voice or use that kind of language before. Elrond had never truly noticed how angry she was about her mother. He looked up to his chamber doors where she had left only to his twin sons standing there looking every bit as surprised as he was. They had clearly never seen their younger sister so angry before either.

"Ummm…" Elrohir started to say… "Did Arwen just threaten to slap mother so hard that she would send her straight to the spirit world?"

Elladan busts out laughing so loudly that he was bent at his waist clutching his stomach tightly.

Elladan's hysterics brought Elrond back to his senses once again. "I did not realize she harbored such ill feelings towards your mother.." He said running his hand through his long black hair.

Both twins stood up straighter and set their eyes on their father.

"We all do father," Elrohir said.

"We loved her and she left us all like we were filth father," Elladan said his voice hard but broken. Elrond heard the pain beneath, he knew his children well.

"Your mother never thought that of you my children. She was just never the same after the Orcs attacked her." Elrond tried to reason with his boys but even he knew it was a lame excuse. His sons had risked their own lives to rescue their mother only for her to end up turning her back and leave them for another land.

"Don't make excuses for her!" Elladan shouted while walking up to stand before his father. His brother and he were the same height as their father. Six feet. He stood eye to eye with his father. Open affection was not something elves normally took part in especially the males but he needed his father to open his eyes so Elladan leaned his forehead against his father's while he placed his hand on the back of Elrond's head to hold him there. "You once said we deserved better than being left behind father but so did you. You mean everything to us. We love you and would die for you as you would for us. Mother did not deserve you or us if her affections meant so little that she could easily leave our family without looking back. You deserve to be happy father and it's what we want for you. I pray you find it but you must open your heart up once again."

When Elladan let go of his father and returned to his brother's side the twins took one last look at their father. They could see that their words had reached him but it was still as though he thought he deserved the abandonment and it angered them. They knew their father well enough though to see that he was also trying to hold himself together for their benefit, not wanting to show his children how truly heartbroken and lonely he was. Their father always buried his own pain so that he could be strong for them but it was time they returned the favor. He had been doing it for centuries. Elladan turned and left knowing his brother was right behind him.

They closed their father's chamber doors on their way out and stood in the hallway for a few minutes to collect themselves. Neither said a word or made a sound. It was after they stood there collecting themselves for several minutes that a broken sob from their father's chambers reached their ears breaking their hearts.

"I'm with Arwen on this brother. I hate mother for what she did to him." Elrohir whispered to his brother.

"I to brother. Let's go find our sister."

The brothers walked side by side to their sister's room hoping that's where she was.

When they stood before her door they knocked, instantly they heard their sister tell them to enter.

The brothers walked in, closing the door behind them. They saw Arwen sitting on her knees before a statue of Hanali Celanil the elven Goddess of love.

"What are you doing sister?" Elrohir asked as he approached her and dropping to his knees next to her. Watching as Elladan did the same on the other side of Arwen.

"I'm tired of seeing father in pain. I know he's lonely but he would never admit it especially not to us. I don't know if this will work but father always said to have faith and the Gods would grant our wishes." Arwen said.

Elladan had a feeling he knew where this was going. "So you are praying to Hanali for father?"

Arwen turned her head to look at her brother. "We all know that mother was not father's True Mate. She would never have been able to hurt him so if she was. I'm going to pray to the Goddess to lead him to his other half. I don't care if I have to sit upon my knees every night for the next millennia praying but I will not watch him continue to hurt and hate himself. It tears at my soul brothers." Arwen began to sob.

The brothers moved closer to their sister and bowed their heads before the statue and began to pray with her. Arwen loved her brothers even more for joining her. All three siblings prayed and bowed to the statue all through the night.

They were so focused on their task with their heads down that, they didn't notice the statue sparkle.
