Warning: I'm an Anime only so most of the lore may be wrong or changed in this story(maybe ı would even forget lore given by anime too sometimes ıdk). So ı'm sorry for those.

And thanks for the amazing helps from my new beta reader "The_Appa_Man" His help improved the writing in this a lot. All the differences in the writing style and fixes is his work.

Also this is a rewrite from the original part 3. I will continue rewriting the fanfic until the end of arc 1(part 4) to get a more consistent writing through chapters.

Part 3: Mansion

Subaru and Emilia were following the oni sisters to the mansion. Most of the walk was silent with Ram occasionally watching over these new people who she sees as either danger or two idiots.

She didn't care anyway. Even if they are dangerous or not, she wanted to use them to escape from her owner with her sister. At least to find a way to make her sister escape from him.

Subaru felt awkward from this silence.

"So-"

"Shut up", Ram said, cutting Subaru's chance of talking.

Hearing Ram, Subaru stopped his attempt to connect with the oni sisters.

Subaru was thinking about how this Ram was even more angry in nature. She felt emotionally unstable. He guessed she calmed down over the years.

Though right now who he cared about was Rem. She was here, moving again, talking again. And he was so happy about it. Seeing her moving, emoting, talking. He felt happy with the chance to see Rem like that again. Even if she is now a little kid.

Emilia on the other hand was thinking about other things. Her dream was weird when she slept. Complete darkness with the presence of multiple people. Five to be exact counting herself. And she heard random things all over the place. Words from Subaru, words from someone who sounded like her. And someone she felt familiar with as well. But she wasn't able to connect to any of it. She passed it as a dream but it still made her think.

Then she looked at Rem again as well. She knew her from Subaru but when looking at her, she started to remember the Rem she knew as well. Like a side effect of the dream, her memories of Rem started to reappear. Her time as a maid in the mansion, her behaviour towards Subaru after the mabeast attack and…

"Su-Subaru…", Emilia said while blushing.

"Huh? Are you alright Emilia-tan?", Subaru asked, worried about his friend.

"Can you come he-here…?", Emilia said, while pointing his ear.

"Of course!", Subaru said.

Emilia whispered to Subaru. Her face went all red when talking about it.

"Wh-What did we do with Rem when we both got dr-drunk?", Emilia asked.

Subaru looked at her confused but then in a second realization kicked in.

"Wait Emilia-tan y-you remember her!", Subaru said with a happy loud voice.

With that voice Ram turned her face to Subaru. A face that made him shut up in an instant.

"Sorry…", Subaru said and turned back to Emilia.

"Emilia-tan th-that's awesome!", Subaru said with a lower voice.

"Yes… But I also started to remember memories of… Subaru…", Emilia started to look angry while still blushing.

"Eh…", Subaru was surprised by her look. A bit scared actually.

"All the things we did with Rem when we got drunk and you…", Emilia said.

"Wa-Wait, how do you remember that…", Subaru said while scared that Emilia remembered what she was doing while drunk.

"You are a real idiot sometimes Subaru", Emilia said while pouting and looking away.

"But you looked so cute together", Subaru said, and found time to tease his queen a bit.

"We weren't… Well.. I wasn't… cute…"

"Oh my queen goes full Tsundere it seems", Subaru said with a smug smile.

"What's a tsundere?", Emilia asked.

"..."

"Never mind…", Subaru said.

Emilia looked at him again and took a deep breath that led to a smile.

"Well at least I know that we had a lot of fun that day", Emilia said, easing Subaru.

"We are here", Ram said and knocked at the door of the mansion.

The one who opened the door was a blonde haired girl who seems to be similar in age with Subaru and Emilia. She was wearing a maid outfit that is similar to the oni sisters but there were small differences. But her most obvious looking part was that she had a mouth with monstrous teeth.

After Subaru saw her teeth he directly looked at Emilia. Both smiled to each other while remembering an old memory.

"Hi! My name is Frederica. A maid in Lord Roswaal's Mansion."

Subaru and Emilia realized how much she looked like one of their friends, Garfiel who is her little brother. Her Hair seemed messy compared to how she looks in the future.

Subaru was the first person who greeted her. He pointed his finger to the air like he always did.

"My name is Natsuki Subaru! Nice to meet you!"

It was a rather embarrassing way to greet himself for Emilia but one that always gave her happiness and hope for the future. So she did the same. Though it was an awkward attempt. It was still embarrassing to do for her.

"Nice to meet you! My name is Emilia!"

Both oni sisters were confused by their entrance.

"So these were the people you looked for all day huh Ram? They seem really nice.", Frederica said while gently smiling at the two.

"Huh!", Both Emilia and Subaru were shocked to hear that and directly turned to the little oni.

Seeing their faces like that and hearing Frederica made Ram blush a bit, a sight she really didn't want to show.

"You know what my intentions were…", Ram said, wanting this judgment on her to be over.

"Haha I know. She wasn't sure if you guys should join us or not. I mean of course it's Lord Roswaal's decision in the end but Ram mostly looks for people who want to work before him", Frederica said, relaxing Ram in the process.

Subaru and Emilia looked at each other. Both seemed to understand each other very well with just looks.

"So… Can we meet him now?", Subaru asked.

"Wait for a while with them in the mansion. I'm gonna report to Lord Roswaal.", Frederica said while leaving the two with the sisters.

"Sure. Thanks Frederica.", Emilia said.

While they were entering the mansion an ominous being was watching them from the window.

"Hmm… This should be iiiintresting."

There was silence again between Emilia, Subaru and the sisters.

"So what do you two cute girls do in your free time? Playing games, Drawing. Hey I may join too one day!", Subaru said, wanting to change the awkward atmosphere.

Ram was irritated by this guy. She wanted to stay silent until he shut up.

Rem was interested but she copied her sister's behaviour, thinking it was a better choice.

"I guess you two are a little shy, hehe. Come on I thought kids always love to talk.", Subaru continued, not realizing the awkward atmosphere is getting worse.

"You came here to work not to get friends so shut your annoying voice up.", Ram said, her frustration against these strangers got bigger.

Hearing Ram's words made Subaru think why were they here all of a sudden. Why did she let them be here to begin with? Subaru thought and wanted to smoothly ask about it.

"Wow you are harsh… So why did you watch us if you are going to be like that? I mean we would've liked you to take us in here earlier but it still seems you want something from us.", Subaru said.

Hearing the question Ram didn't answer it. She stayed silent to his words.

Seeing Ram silent made Subaru think he found a blind spot and he went all in it.

"Well I guess we can't work here if we don't know we can trust people who are here. Right Emilia-tan?", He said while talking like he is in control.

"Yeah. I mean we can't work with people we can't trust.", Emilia said, understanding and joining Subaru.

Hearing them over and over again started to anger Ram. Hearing some random nobodies or in the worst case scenario witch cult members scold her started to piss her off.

"Fine! Do you wanna know why I'm interested in idiots like you? I don't care if you can work well or not or you are actually from the witch cult and wanna ruin Lord Roswaals plans or not. I want to just run away from this place with my sister.", Ram shouted it out, not realizing what she said in that small moment of frustration.

"Sister…", Rem said, worried about her sister.

Subaru and Emilia look at her in complete shock. They never saw her like that and hearing her reasons made both disgusted at what Roswaal was even more.

"What did he do to you?", Subaru asked, getting angry at Roswaal.

Ram realizing what she has done shut herself up.

She was scared that they would run away now because of what she said. Her plans failed because of her temper.

Subaru knew how many bad things Roswaal may have done with them or did to them. Subaru couldn't let that bastard get away with it. But also he thought about how childish Ram's plan was. She probably doesn't even think about what they will do after running away.

Emilia was also thinking what might Roswaal do to them but she stayed silent for the time being.

Complete silence was in the room.

"Lord Roswaal wants to speak with you two", Frederica said while walking down the stairs.

Hearing her both started to slowly walk away. In reality both didn't want to leave the two here hearing all this but they had to go away. But before leaving. Subaru turned his face to them, Emilia soon following after.

"Don't worry. I will help you", Subaru said, reassuring Ram that he will help them.

Ram and Rem looked confused.

Ram thought they would go away after what she said. They might think this place is dangerous and run away or think that she was lying and go to Roswaal like that but he said he will help. Ram didn't understand if he meant what he said or not.

After that Subaru and Emilia started to walk to Roswaal's room.

While no one around both started to think what they should do now.

"Subaru what are we going to do?", Emilia asked with a thoughtful look on her face.

"Huh? What do you mean Emilia-tan.", Subaru asked, sensing that Emilia was thinking something different than before.

"I… I want to help Rem and Ram too… But aren't we changing the future?", Emilia asked.

For a while they thought about their survival so much that they didn't even think about the possibility of what they might be causing.

Hearing that made Subaru think about it as well. What they were causing can really change the world they once knew. If they ever found a chance to go back both didn't know how much it would change if they continued like this.

"You… You might be right…", Subaru said.

Both didn't know what to do. They both now had the chance to change things. But should they do it?

"But… if we change it you might…", Emilia started to realize a path.

Seeing all this pain from Ram, knowing about sanctuary and a safe Rem. If they do it right they can create a future where everyone can be happy.

Knowing that she held Subaru's hand.

"E-Emilia-tan?", Subaru said while blushing.

"Subaru we can save her.", Emilia said while looking very serious.

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"I won't let you feel bad for Rem anymore. We have a chance to save her. And after what Ram said we both know we can't look at them the same anymore.", Emilia said.

"But Emilia-tan, Puck…?", Subaru said, not sure of putting Emilia into such a big task.

"I...", Hearing his name made Emilia stop a bit.

She looked Subaru with a serious and ready face.

"Yes but… I have hope. I know that we can still find him. We can find a way to go back to our time but we can change enough stuff here to make everyone happy.", Emilia said, ending with a warm smile.

Subaru looked at her. He wanted to refuse her idea. He thought he would be selfish to stay here and let Emilia stay too just because of himself but he had a chance again. He could save Rem, maybe even make her and Ram's life better.

"Le-Let's do it then…", Subaru said and with this agreement both continued walking to Roswaal's room and finally finding it.

Subaru knocked on the door and both took a deep breath.

Door opened by itself showing a man sitting on his chair and reading a book.

When he saw them he gave a small smile at the two and looked back at his book again.

"Very very interesting", He said and closed the book.

"Welcome. You must be Suuuubaru.", Roswaal said and turned to Emilia.

"And you must be The Witch of Elior Forest. I'm sooorry that I don't know your name yet.", Roswaal said.

"I-It's Emilia", Emilia said, felt like she was looking at a monster face to face.

"Emilia… Such a beautiful name. Such a tragedy that you have been deemed as a deeeemon by the people around yooou. But it seems that youuu have found a friend.", Roswaal said while keeping his friendly attitude.

"Y-Yes… Thank you…", Emilia said.

Emilia remembered the first time Roswaal came to find her. She was extremely happy that someone other than Puck wasn't scared of her and his promise of saving people on Elior forest did also made her even more excited than anything but after all that happened seeing this old Roswaal wasn't really a good reuniting.

While they were speaking, the maids were sitting and waiting for what would happen.

Frederica was ready for them both to not get a job and leave. Lord Roswaal seemed to always take workers all by himself.

But for Ram, what she was thinking was completely different.

("Don't worry. I will help you")

Why did he say that? That was on Ram's mind. While she still thought these new people were nothing more than idiots, that line somehow affected her more than she thought.

While she thinked about that, Rem looked at her sister. What she said to those two. That made her worried about her sister.

She slowly touched her sister's arm.

Ram turned and saw her sister looking very worried at her.

"Sister?", Rem said.

"What happened Rem?"

"D-Do you want to run away?", Rem asked, wanting to understand her sister.

Ram was angry that she made her worried but that line also made her think about what she should do now. But first.

"I… I was just angry at these new people. You don't have to worry", Ram said while giving a smile.

"O-Okay", Even though she thought something was wrong after her sister's words Rem stood silent and smiled to reassure her sister.

Frederica seeing those two smiled as well, not wanting to interfere with the moment between sisters. While she heard what Ram said, knowing their past she never went to them and questioned what they have been doing. Mostly she has been a big sister for the two. Teaching them what to do, how to act around people and more. But she also tried her best to make their life here an enjoyable one. While Ram hated her life here Frederica was the only person she found to be trusted. For both Ram and Rem she was their only other friend other than each other.

Now that she answered Rem, Ram had one thing on her mind to do.

She stood up to walk to Roswaal's room.

"Sister?", Rem said.

"I will just look if Lord Roswaal needs anything from me.", Ram said.

"I can do it if you want Ram.", Frederica said.

"No, I can do it. I found those idiots so I can also give knowledge if Lord Roswaal wants it.", Ram said, trying to find her best excuse.

"Fine then.", Frederica said while smiling. She found it funny how much she tried to hide what she wanted to do.

Meanwhile Subaru and Emilia continued talking to Roswaal.

"Soooo what would you want from meeee. From what I heard, you two want to woooork for me. Am I correct?", Roswaal asked.

Upon hearing this question Emilia and Subaru looked at each other. After what they saw from Ram they wanted to ask one question.

"I have one question.", Subaru said.

Roswaal, hearing that, looked at him in a discomforting way but then changed his look to a more comforting look.

"Suuure. You can ask meeee.", Roswaal said.

"Rem and Ram… Why are they here… Working under you?", Subaru asked with a demanding look.

"Whaaat do you mean?", Roswaal said even though he knew the answer already.

"They are small kids… At best 11 to 12… Why are they working under you?", Subaru asked while disgusted with the thought of that.

While he did see a 11 to 12 year old work as a maid in this mansion before, unlike her, these two seemed to be forced into. Especially Ram. With how angry she was and what she wanted he could not believe that this is the same Ram he knew. Whatever Roswaal did to her. Her will and thoughts seemed like it made a 180 turn.

Upon hearing this question Roswaal gave a normal, yet for them a disgusting smile.

"Hmm… You are surely an interesting person Suuuubaru. Well thooose two saw a sad tragedy a while ago. Was it a year or a mooonth? I don't really remember. A simple witch cult attack ooon their village. An attack that could've beeeeen a genocide if I didn't save them. And nooow as their only home they work as a maid. Did oooone of them say something?", Roswaal said.

How he put those words disgusted Subaru and Emilia. Especially Subaru knowing how much he would not care about their lives if they are useless to him. While Emilia knew the half of the story, how he put those words and the reaction of Ram still disgusted her against the clown.

Subaru clenched his fists, wanting to punch him right there right now. But he knew he could be extremely dangerous with his powers. While he remembered the spell he had when they beat him in the sanctuary right now there was no clue of its existence so Subaru had to pull his anger before things could get dirty.

"What if we do their work?", Emilia asked.

Subaru and Roswaal looked at her, surprised by the sudden question. But after he realized what Emilia wanted he had a genuine smile at Emilia. And followed her lead.

"Their work?", Roswaal said.

"Yes. Instead of Rem and Ram, give their jobs to us.", Emilia said.

"Yes we will work for you and do all the duties you gave to us. In return Rem and Ram will be just the inhabitants of the mansion.", Subaru added.

Roswaal look at the two's passionate looks and

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!", Roswaal laughed at their passion for those two kids that don't even know who they are.

Seeing him like that made Subaru very angry.

"Stop laughing! Do you accept this or not?", Subaru asked.

Roswaal's laugh turned into a smile again.

"Alright then, Suuuuubaru."

"Your way of talking really started to piss me off.", Subaru said.

"I will let yooooou two work here but foooor now Rem and Ram will continue working here.", Roswaal said.

"Huh… WHY?", Subaru asked.

"How can I believe some raaaaandom kid and the witch Elior Forest can handle thiiiiiis job?", Roswaal said.

"Right…", Subaru said, couldn't find anything to say after his reasoning.

"I assume you two can understand the reeeeasons and would chooooose the best option foooor you.", Roswaal said.

Both Subaru and Emilia couldn't find any other option. They could not risk that. With knowing that both shake his hand. First Emilia.

"A chooooice I hoped you would make.", Roswaal said to Emilia.

She stayed silent at his words. She felt like she made a deal with a devil. And after the handshake she waited for Subaru near the door.

Subaru shaked Roswaal's hand.

"I will protect those two from everyone including you.", Subaru said, his anger was so obvious for everyone to see. And that made Roswaal sadistically happy.

"Your work starts tomorrow.", Roswaal said in a mocking manner.

Subaru went to Emilia very angry. Seeing that Emilia held his shoulder.

"Let's just leave here.", Emilia said.

"Alright.", Subaru said, both wanting to leave his presence immediately.

While they opened the door and left Roswaal was just standing there, smiling.

When they left the place they saw a running figure. They quickly closed the door and ran to her.

She quickly hid herself but before she did Subaru and Emilia already saw her and quickly ran to her hiding spot. A curtain with her little shoes is very easy to see.

Subaru opened the curtain to see the pink haired small maid looking outside.

Both Subaru and Emilia were shocked to see her like that but also found this to be funny.

Ram, seeing them stood silently. Felt very awkward while standing between two grown ups. While her face seemed very calm it was slowly becoming red from embarrassment.

But before they realize it Subaru directed a question.

"What were you doing there?"

"I…"

"Were you listening to us?", Subaru continued to ask.

"I was…"

"You shouldn't secretly listen to people", Emilia said while pointing her finger at the little girl.

Subaru, hearing that, looked at her with a smug smile.

"You sound like such a mom", Subaru said, not realizing he said his thoughts.

"Huh?", Emilia looked at him, not understanding what he meant.

"Nothing!", Subaru said while thinking how cute she is.

After this small exchange Ram finally found what to say to Subaru.

"Wi-Will you really gonna do what you said th-there?", Ram said while stumbling over her words.

Subaru didn't understand what she meant but realized quickly that she heard what he said back at Roswaal. Then he saw her face. A face that is holding its tears looking like a timed bomb.

Subaru bent in front of her and looked at her face with a comforting smile.

"Of course. Of course we do", Subaru said. Unlike his energic loud voice he took on a quiet but calm voice, relaxing the little maid.

"But wh-why?", Ram asked with a quiet voice trying not to cry.

With that question Emilia made her move and pat the small maid's hair. Made her completely focus on her.

"You looked for help. Why would we say no to that?", Emilia said while giving the same comforting smile.

"I…", Ram couldn't find any other words.

Hearing these words made her eyes wet ready for crying but she quickly turned around and rubbed her eyes with her arm.

Both Subaru and Emilia looked at each other observing both of their happiness over seeing the little maid emotional.

And while they are happy that little maid turned them back.

"Th-Thank you… Barusu… and Miarie.", Ram said while still sometimes stumbling over her words.

"Huh…?", Emilia was confused at what she said.

While Subaru already got what she did.

"I guess some things never change…", Subaru thought while looking at two girls.

"Ram? I guess you understand my name wrong. It's Emilia."

"Huh? Like I said Miarie."
