Part 7: …

A new day was born.

Two strangers appeared in a village that is close to Roswaal L. Mathers's manison. Both were wearing cloaks.

"Like it's taught to you, act normally. We will stay here for a while", said one of the strangers.

The other stranger silently nodded with her head.

One of them was older than the other; they seemed like sisters in a way.

While they walked the little one's stomach started to growl.

"Do you want to eat something?", the older person asked with a caring smile on her face.

The little one nodded once again.

"Alright then", Older one said.

They went to a small artisan restaurant.

"Welcome young miss", Artisan said to the older one.

"Hi. We would like to get food packed to be taken outside", Older one said.

"I see. What food do you want?"

"Hmm… Those hamburgers would work for us"

"Alright miss.", Artisan said and yelled at his pupil "Two hamburgers! Did you hear it?"

"Yes boss!", The pupil yelled back.

"I never saw you two around here. Are you new?", Artisan said with curiosity.

"Yes. We actually came here to handle a job.", Older girl said.

"A job? I see. Well if you are gonna stay here for long I can ask my friends and neighbors to take you in. Sorry I can't take anyone to my home right now.", Artisan said, feeling wrong for not being able to help them.

"Oh no don't worry. We will stay here for four days but we already have a place to stay", Older girl said, trying to ease the Artisan.

"I'm glad. But if you need something like navigation, I would gladly help out", Artisan said kindly.

"Thanks a lot", Older girl said.

Soon their hamburgers came. While the Artisan was serving them, he looked at the little one.

"I guess you are a bit shy huh?" he asked.

"She is not used to the long road", the older one said, trying to avoid the subject.

"I see. What were your names again?", Artisan said.

The older girl smiled… with her purple eyes shining under her black hair…

Part 7: Elsa and Meili

Both of them took off their cloaks and sat somewhere away from the village so that no one could see them. They started eating their lunch while sitting on a tree.

Soon, having finished her share, Elsa was lying down near a rock with her legs crossed.

"This is much better", Elsa said relaxing under the sunshine.

Little Meili was up on the tree, sitting on it while eating. She was not used to talking normally.

"I thought the organization finally taught you how to speak.", Elsa said with disappointment in her face.

Meili looked at her annoyed.

"No… use… to it" Meili said. She was both annoyed by the question and tried to prove herself to Elsa.

"It's 'not used to it'. And even with that you are not doing full sentences.", Elsa said with a smug smile as she enjoyed taunting her.

Now even more annoyed, Meili glared at her. She started to make a "Grrrrr" noise.

"And you still like to act like a dog. Oh well. At least no one would care that much since you are little", Elsa said.

Having rested completely, Elsa got up and threw the garbage away.

"Alright come here!" she called.

Meili jumped from branch to branch, eventually landing on the ground.

"So we are going to stay in this village for four days. Act normal around people. As much as we like to, do not hurt anyone other than our targets that we will attack on the final day.", Elsa explained.

"How… final day", Meili looked at her confused.

"It's 'Why final day?'... probably. Well, it's the order from our recruiter. Some people do it like that. Either they have planned a scheme or already have some knowledge of the future and they want us to act accordingly."

"Huh", Meili said in a tone of confusion, as she put a finger on her lip.

"Aww... Those Demon Beasts didn't teach you anything, did they?" Elsa sounded genuinely sad for Meili while reminding her of her old wild life.

She patted Meili's head.

"You should watch and learn from your elders small one", Elsa said proudly announcing herself.

"Butt… mine…. Misso-Mission…. it… were", Meili said.

"And that's why I'm here to help you! Both for the hunt…. And I guess for the talk too" said Elsa.

Elsa and Meili started walking back towards the village after putting their cloaks on

"Meili…", Elsa said with disappointment.

"Huh?", Meili was confused. Now what?

"Stand upright", Elsa ordered.

"Oh…"

Meili fixed her stance. She was still getting used to moving and talking more normally since Elsa took her to the Assassin organization.

They finally came back to the village.

"Observe the area. On the fourth day this should be our playground.", Elsa whispered to Meili in the ear.

Meili nodded again.

Both wandered around the village. The villagers were nice to them and most of them thought that the two were related. The assassins tried to find people to ask about their hunt.

"Huh, did Mr. Roswaal take new maids? I didn't know that", a villager said.

"New workers for Lord Roswaal. I hope they are good people like the other three. They are such nice children. The twins are especially cute", an older villager said.

"So you say new workers, huh? What traumatic experiences did they have? Because the other three surely had it", a young lad asked.

"Some people said they saw a Silver haired half elf. I'm sure Mr. Roswaal didn't take her but even the idea of it is scary", a pretty maiden said.

"Oh yeah I saw one of them probably, a black haired kid. He bought some food from me. His eyes were quite scary to be honest but he is probably a good kid", another old villager said.

Their search about the mansion work crew wasn't really good. Seemingly these two targets just joined Roswaal's crew. They already knew what they looked like but villagers were not sure of who they were.

Both assassins found another woman and tried to approach her hoping to gain some intel. She had orange hair with green eyes.

"Sorry Miss we want you to a-", Elsa's words were cut by this woman's yelling.

"Sweetie! Come here we need to go!", the woman called out.

A small girl ran up to her. She had the similar colored hair like her mom's but hers was shorter and she had cyan blue eyes.

"I'm here mom…", said the girl. She was worn down from running.

She looked at Meili.

"Hi!", The girl said with a really cute smile.

Meili hid herself behind Elsa's back. She was creeped out from this sudden welcome.

"Huh…? Are you okay?", The girl said.

"Come on. Don't be shy", Elsa said with a convincing smile while putting her hand on Meili's shoulder and pushing her in front of the girl.

"Petra. You should not disturb people", her mom scolded.

"No, don't worry about it. In fact, it would be nice for her to interact with people", Elsa said while making Meili think whether she was playing a role or was she serious.

"Want to play something?" Petra said with a smile, trying to befriend this mysterious kid.

"Petra I need to get some materials from the grocery and I can't leave you here.", The woman said.

"But mom! Please!" Petra said in despair.

Her mom took a deep breath.

"Alright... 10 minutes more, if Miss lets you two play of course.",

Meili relaxed after hearing those words. Now they can finally lea-

"Of course they can.", Elsa said.

"EH!" Meili was shocked to hear that.

"I wanted to ask you some questions already", Elsa said with a small evil grin while looking at Meili.

"Questions?", The woman asked.

Petra held Meili's hand and Meili felt helpless in the hands of… whoever she was. She wanted to scream "I'm kidnapped help!" but she couldn't. Because of the barrier that the village has, she can't call mabeasts. Even if she could, her mission did not let her.

"Anyways… I'm sure they will have fun." Elsa smiled.

She turned to the woman, her evil grin leaving with a convincing smile.

"I wanted to ask. Did you know anything about the new servants Roswaal L. Mathers have?",

"Hmm… Sorry I don't know that much about them. But I saw a black haired kid two days ago. Petra was at home that day. He was in really bad shape. Poor kid", the woman said in a sad tone.

"Did you see anyone else with him? Like a silver haired half elf?"

"Huh…? Of course not. I mean even if one person saw someone like that, everyone else would know. But I guess I heard the rumors about her. If she is here, I guess I can now understand why that kid was in such bad shape. I hope he wasn't being troubled by her", the woman said.

"I see", Elsa nodded.

"So what do you wanna do?", Petra said still with a warm smile.

"Grrrrrr….", Meili was annoyed by her.

"Oh! Come I will show you something", Petra said with excitement while pulling her.

Soon they reached their destination.

"Tadaa!", Petra stopped.

She brought her to a garden full of flowers.

Meili was confused, but also loved how the flowers looked. She looked at them for a while.

"They are beautiful right?", Petra said.

Even though she was annoyed by her, Meili couldn't deny the beauty of those flowers. She nodded while still looking at flowers.

"I looked at these flowers for a while. Without me there would be no one who would give them water", Petra said proudly.

Meili looked at her like a fan who does not wanna show themselves as a fan.

"My mom let me obviously, but still I love looking after them", Petra said while chuckling a bit.

Meili continued staring at the flowers; they just looked beautiful to her eyes.

"Here we go", Petra said while putting a flower in Meili's hair.

"Huh?", Meili said while confused.

"Did you like it?", Petra asked.

"I…"

Meili actually loved that flower. With that gift, Petra's smiles felt a lot more warm to her. Her shell was slowly melting towards her.

"Petra time is over! Time to go!", Petra's mom called out.

"But I wanted to play with her…", Petra said with a disappointed face.

Meili, not knowing if she should do something nodded at her in a confused way.

"We can meet again tomorrow right?"Petra said, hoping for a yes.

Meili again nodded at her.

"By the way my name is Petra, what's yours?", she asked. Even though Meili already knew her name.

"Me-Meili…"

"Petra come on!", Petra's mom yelled.

"Alright, I'm coming!", Petra shouted.

She held Meili's hand.

"See you tomorrow then, hehe." Petra giggled and left Meili.

Meili kept staring at her as she walked towards her home, until Elsa appeared suddenly from behind and scared her.

"You seemed to enjoy your company."Elsa said with a grin on her face.

Meili again looked at her, annoyed by her commentary.

It was starting to get dark. Elsa and Meili went towards the village outskirts. They made a small camp outside of the barrier that stopped the mabeasts going in. They found a good spot to hide and sleep.

Mabeasts surrounded them with both Elsa and Meili lying next to them to sleep.

"Elsa...?", Meili said.

"Finally started to speak up huh? What happened?"

"Silver hair… Half elf…. Dangerous?", She asked, sounding worried.

"Silver hair half elf? Eh why would you worry about her all of a sudden? She is probably just a lookalike. Slicing her up wouldn't be that hard.", Elsa said really calmly.

Meili wasn't satisfied with that answer. She was scared that this half elf is the infamous "Witch of Envy". She didn't think about it that much when she first took the task but seeing how the villagers acted in response to her name made her worry.

Elsa saw that worry on her face. She turned her body to see her clearly. They were sleeping near different beasts.

"Don't worry. That witch died a long, really long time ago", Elsa said. But she understood her worries.

"But if it doesn't go right like how we planned, Run… Run as fast as possible. I won't let her touch you. Alright? I mean I wanted to see a half elf's guts anyways, so I will not leave her that easily", Elsa said trying to relax her.

"Bu-But-",

"Sleep Meili. And you know? Think about the flower that girl gave you.", Elsa said while turning back to make her worries over for now.

Meili didn't know what to do after that. Hopelessly she tried to sleep as well.

Next day was just a normal day for the two. Elsa and Meili were just wandering around; either in the village or in the forest. Elsa was looking at her Kukri blade excited about the fourth day and Meili was just staring at mabeasts.

In the afternoon while in the village suddenly a hand grabbed Meili's hand.

In sudden shock she was gonna go for an attack but then she realized who grabbed her.

"Hi Meili!", Petra said with a warm smile.

Then she quickly turned to Elsa.

"I'm sorry miss. Since we met yesterday and learned that your time here is limited, I wanted to spend some more time with Meili. Can we play?", Petra said with her behavior turned more serious yet still childish.

"Oh, of course", Elsa said with a small grin.

"Want to go, Meili? I want you to meet my friends!", Petra said.

Meili looked at Elsa like a girl who wanted approval from her parents. Elsa gave her a small nod. It wasn't affecting their mission anyway.

Meili took a deep breath and nodded at Petra. Together they walked with Meili starting to get used to her.

Elsa looked at Meili like a proud parent yet she was also worried if this would affect her capabilities as an assassin. But in one way or another she wanted her to enjoy her life, so she left her with this innocent girl.

"Come on Meili!", Petra said while running faster than her.

Meili started to get frustrated. She felt like she was losing a race. She unintentionally started to act more like herself. She broke her normal human running into a more animalistic one. She got much faster by it and caught up to Petra before she could even stop.

Both Petra and her friends were surprised by Meili's entrance.

Meili realized what she had done. She was sweating in fear. Elsa would be angry and they might even fail their task if she was discovered.

"That was so cool!" Petra said, praising her new friend. And that praise continued with others as well.

Meili was surprised but also relieved by it. And seeing their reaction made her happy.

"Do you have more tricks?", asked one of Petra's friends. And with that others were starting to ask too.

That many were overwhelming her.

"Eh… I… Eh…" She didn't know how to say something because of it.

Petra quickly stepped in front of Meili and stopped others.

"Stop! Don't scare her!", she said.

Then she turned to Meili.

"That was awesome!", she exclaimed.

Meili smiled at hers and other's compliments.

"Let… I do more", Meili said.

"More? We would like to!", Petra said.

The kids went to an area with trees. Meili started to show her agility. The children were watching her, impressed by her skills.

Meili was having a lot of fun. She felt so free by doing it in front of the others, and since they were having fun, she was having fun as well.

After that the kids started to play a lot of games. Meili was mostly good at a lot of them with her winning almost all of them. Some kids were impressed by her, some frustrated by her skills and some were just having fun with her.

When the kids started leaving the area, Petra and Meili left it together.

"It was so fun!", Petra said with Meili nodding.

Meili started to love hanging out with Petra a lot. She even relaxed herself to move more like herself. But after they entered a place with other people, she fixed her stance again.

"Huh? What happened?", Petra asked, confused as to why she changed her stance.

Meili tried to look confused by her question so she wouldn't ask.

"Oh anyways", Petra said.

She looked at her new friend.

"I wish you could be here every time", Petra said with a small sadness in her face.

Meili looked at her confused about her situation.

"Eh! I'm fine!", Petra said.

"By the way, when are you gonna leave? I want to give you something before you go!", Petra said.

"Some… thing?", Meili said.

"Yes! Like a present!",

Meili wasn't sure what she had to say. They need to leave immediately after their job is done.

"A day…", Meili said didn't want her to follow them in their hunt.

"A day? Wait, you will go after tomorrow!?", Petra said with a small stress that came out as a scream.

"Y-Yes", Meili said, a little bit scared of her sudden scream.

"I need to go then! I have to finish your present!", Petra said with a serious tone.

While they walked, Elsa came to get Meili back.

"How was the day kiddo?", Elsa asked with a small smile.

"It was amazing. Meili was so cool!", Petra said.

Meili looked at her with a shy expression.

"Hmm… I see. You two seem to have had a lot of fun", Elsa said while looking at Meili with a grin.

"Alright I need to go! Thank you miss! See you tomorrow Meili!", Petra said while running to her house quickly.

The day was over in a few hours. Meili and Elsa again went outside of the barrier and set their camp.

"Elsa…?", Meili said.

"What happened?"

Meili tried to connect the right words for what she wanted to ask.

"Can…. Um…"

"Yes?"

"Can we… Fight not… in the village?", Meili said, scared of Elsa's answer.

Elsa looked at Meili and gave a smile. Then she looked at the sky.

"You don't want to hurt her huh? An assassin scared of hurting someone?", Elsa said.

"No I-", Meili was trying to find an excuse for her reasoning but Elsa cut her talk.

"Alright I already made a plan for that anyway, so don't worry. Your friend will be safe and if it goes right no one will know about us. Are you ha-", Elsa suddenly felt warm.

That warm feeling was not one she wanted but felt equally relaxing. Instead of her favourite warm red liquid with so many different body parts it was a hug from a little happy girl. First shocked, Elsa later looked at the blue haired angel in a more relaxed and happy way. She gave her a little pat.

After that their second day was over. Only one day left for their hunt.

Elsa again left Meili to meet up with Petra. While she looked for a spot to break the barrier that stops mabeasts from going inside.

She walked in the road that goes to Roswaal's mansion. In that road she found one of the lamps that created the barrier. She marked the place for tomorrow.

Meanwhile Petra and Meili were again with the other kids, having fun.

"Meili come here'', Petra said.

Meili ran up to her and wondered what happened.

"Close your eyes", Petra said smiling.

Meili was confused about what she wanted.

"Come on!", Petra said, insisting for her to close her eyes.

Meili closed her eyes knowing she wouldn't stop.

"Aaaaaand… OPEN!", Petra said with excitement.

When Meili opened her eyes she saw a cake with a present.

Petra wanted to make this day special for Meili since it will be her last day in Arlam. She worked a lot for her gift and even asked for someone to make a cake for her. None of the other kids were able to bring gifts but they still wanted to be here.

"For your last da-", Petra said but she sneezed before she finished her sentence.

She worked a lot yesterday so she got a bit sick after that day.

"Are…. You…. Okay?" Meili said scared of her friend's situation.

"I'm alright. I'm just a little tired hehe", Petra said as she gave Meili her gift.

"Here", she said, hoping Meili would like it.

Meili was excited about what it was and opened it. It was a handmade cloak for her.

The outfit had a mix of ultramarine blue, dark purple and yellowish green. And it had a small hood. It was obviously pretty crappy with her age and time. There were strings all over the place and it looked like parts were taken from so many other clothes.

"My mother helped me make it since I didn't have much time, hehe.", Petra said, hoping that Meili liked it.

Even though it was not finished, Meili still liked the cloak.

"Tha-Thank…. You…", Meili said with a happy smile. She felt really weird emotions inside her. It was hard for her to acknowledge them, so she decided to keep quiet about it.

The kids continued enjoying the day by eating cake and playing.

After that again they started to leave with Meili again leaving with Petra.

"Did you enjoy this day?", Petra asked, hoping the answer would be a yes.

Meili nodded with a smile.

"I'm gla-", She sneezed again.

"I guess I can't say goodbye to you tomorrow if my cold gets worse."

"Can… I do… something…?", Meili said, hoping to help her friend.

"Don't worry I'm fine. My mom allowed me to go outside today but I will probably be at my home tomorrow, hehe", Petra said, trying to relax her friend.

"Will you ever come back here?", Petra asked.

Meili looked at her and wanted to say yes but she didn't know.

"I… hope", Meili said.

"Even so-", Petra turned to her.

"I hope you won't forget me because I won't forget you!", Petra said with a smile.

"I… Won't!", Meili said also with a smile.

Meili, not knowing what to do, wanted to give Petra a gift as well and she gave her the flower Petra gave her.

"Huh?", Petra said, confused.

"Gift", Meili said, raising her eyebrows.

Petra understood what she was trying to say.

"Thank you!", Petra said with a really happy smile.

After their last talk, the two friends left each other.

Meili walked back to the camp made by Elsa and her.

"Did you have fun?", Elsa said.

Meili nodded at her.

"I hope that wouldn't make you soft during hunt."

Meili again nodded at her with a smile this time.

Elsa saw the gift Meili had.

"What is that?",

"A… gift…", Meili said not knowing what Elsa's reaction would be.

Elsa took a deep breath.

"Do not wear that in hunt… in any hunt, in fact. Just in case", Elsa said, not wanting to hurt Meili but she knew that there had to be limits.

Meili nodded.

Later, they went to sleep as their last day was coming.

The next day, Meili didn't go to the village and waited in the forest until Elsa needed her.

Elsa on the other hand broke the lamp she marked and waited in the village. She took a small mabeast and hid it. Just in case there needs to be protection.

In the afternoon the atmosphere of the village was changed. This warm and happy place suddenly went into panic and fear. A villager ran and screamed at everyone.

"IT REALLY IS HERE! THE WITCH REALLY IS HERE!", he screamed.

Everyone went to their home and kept the doors and windows closed. They were scared of that monster. Few tried to take a peek by slightly opening their windows. What will that monster do to them?

Seeing that, Elsa also hid herself. But her eyes kept looking for her target.

And she saw it. The silver haired half elf. It was going to be her target.

She looked at her kukri blade and started to dream of things like organs and blood. She wanted all of it.

And then she looked at her one last time. Giving a slight lick to her blade, she raised her head with a hungry smile.

"The hunt begins"

-To be continued.
