Reality...
Is more than a linear path... it's a prism, of endless possibility.
Where a single choice can branch out into infinite realities. Creating alternate worlds than the ones you know.
I am an Observer... and I'll be your guide to this certain reality... follow me and ponder the question... What IF...?
A young boy walked the streets with a heavy sigh.
With his ashen grey hair, simple green clothes, and blue eyes that made up his overall appearance. In a simple glance, the boy was an ordinary kid who has been in this world 12 years since his birth.
But to those who are not from Picouttate, one of the Great Five Cities of the Dragon Kingdom of Lugunica, he was known by the children of his age as the "Zodda Bug Bastard". A nickname made for his crime that he did not intentionally create.
Even though his infamous reputation slowly dissipated after the years went by, but the memory of it still remains inside that boy's mind.
Since then on, he sealed his Blessing, a power that came with their birth, who he had seen as a curse. A curse that can be exploited by those who seek such power.
Even though his "luck" had made to bring such power, he knew that such luck was that of misfortune. He even nearly drowned on his first bath!
Releasing a heavy sigh at the memory from two years ago that made him seal his use of his Divine Protection, the son of the well-known merchant of a company in Picouttate continued his way to an Earth Dragon stable where he might find some peace inside that small building.
"I know this is kind of a habit by now, but I need to check on Frufoo a bit."
The boy in green muttered to himself as he was moments away from his designated destination.
A while ago, he suddenly had the urge to check on his Earth Dragon. A feeling he hadn't experienced before, a gut feeling if you will.
At first, he thought it was something out of the ordinary and decided to shrug it off.
However, as time went on, the urge became stronger and stronger. Until the blue-eyed boy couldn't stand any longer and decided to go for the stables.
It was around near dusk when he saw stables where his Earth Dragon was. And he thought that there was nothing out of the ordinary.
As luck would have it, he saw the doors of the stable slightly opened. Something he was sure that it wasn't there in the first place.
He knew he locked the stable doors a few hours ago, he even double-checked while he was at it back then. He was sure of it
A slight fear gripped in his heart, his mind whirling at the thought that his beloved Earth Dragon companion had been stolen by some thief who managed to entice the creature.
With that in mind, he began to think that there was someone who has a similar Divine Protection as his. A blessing that allows the user to communicate the animals around them. But this user might have a Divine Protection specifically to control instead of communicate.
Calm down! Calm down! Calm down!
Mentally chanting those two words as if in a mantra, the ashen grey haired child tried to lessen his fears at the prospect of a stolen Earth Dragon.
After mentally, and physically, preparing himself for the possible missing Earth Dragon and also the possibility of something dangerous that could've made the stable as it's own.
Although seem improbable, as this city was well-protected from any Mabeast attacks since the time when the Evil Dragon Valgren attacked this city a few decades back. A time shortly after the Demi-Human Wars ended.
Bracing himself, the boy opened the doors with eyes shut. Preparing to scream at the moment's notice.
He waited.
One second.
Five seconds.
Ten seconds.
But nothing came.
Realizing this, the boy let out a breath of relief that there wasn't any Mabeast or anything of the sort that could kill him on the spot.
Now with the possible danger out of his head, he looked inside the stable where his Earth Dragon was.
To his relief, he saw Frufoo being alright. Peacefully asleep, with no scratch or wound that can be seen on him in a single glance一
"...Eh?"
The ashen grey haired child uttered in confusion as he saw a young child sleeping on the back of the green Earth Dragon.
She looked to be around the ages six or seven, with crimson red hair and a simple plain white and brown dress with some dirt that can be seen on her clothes.
Who is she?
The boy wondered, looking at the child who seemed to be around half his age. Someone who should be around the age of his younger brother.
The girl slept peacefully as if without a care in the world.
His blue eyes stared at the girl. His confusion was clearly expressed on his face as the girl slept on his Earth Dragon. A bizarre sight to behold.
Curiously, he wanted to know who this girl is and how she got inside the stable. But he couldn't recall anything about a slightly dirt-covered girl around this part of the city.
He knew he shouldn't do it. He knew that he wasn't supposed to use his Divine Protection after that certain incident two years ago. The boy swore that he wouldn't use it.
However, his curiosity got the better of him. He wanted to know who the girl was and how she got here when shut stable doors locked.
For the first time in two years the boy decided to unseal his blessing for the purposes of finding out the truth.
"Frufoo, who is she? And how she got here?"
The boy asked the Earth Dragon, with the latter slightly raised its eyes. Noticing the boy seeking answers from him.
Frufoo let out a small noise, and the boy immediately understood what he said.
"She simply opened the door... Just like that?"
The Green Earth Dragon nodded. And just like that, the mystery was solved as soon as it began.
"Then, what was she doing earlier?"
Frufoo tilted his head and let out another noise, with the boy understanding what was uttered immediately.
"She was looking for a place to take a nap, huh. So she slept the entire afternoon just like that?"
The boy looked at the girl in surprise, he knew there were other places perfect for a nap. But a stable for an Earth Dragon seemed out of place, even for a child like her.
"Was she always been that dirty, Frufoo? Has she been covered in dirt when she first came here?"
With a nod, the Earth Dragon confirmed the boy's suspicion without missing a bit as it let out a yawn. Shaking its body a bit to make it a bit more comfortable.
As a result, it woke the girl up. Squinting her tired eyes after waking up from her nap.
During the development of this event, the boy in green clothes nearly panicked when he saw Frufoo unintentionally waking the young girl up without warning as he mentally berated himself for not preparing for this to happen.
"Ugh... how long was I asleep? Hope it didn't took too long, that old lady would yell at me for being late again."
With a groan, the girl rubbed her eye. Still tired even after she awoke. Yawning in the process.
The boy stood there, frozen as he and the girl's eyes made contact with each other.
Blue eyes met blue eyes. the red-haired girl's eyes shone like sapphire, a purity that is untouched by anything.
They stared at each other, the boy standing where he was frozen as if he couldn't move whereas the girl looked at him in confusion for a moment.
But to the boy's surprise, she didn't react violently. Instead, she stared at him curiously as if it was the first time she saw him.
Again, this is the first I saw her too. So we're even, I ashen-haired child mused by this, but was cut short when the girl spoke in a tone befitting her age.
"Hello. Who are you, nii-chan?"
She asked the boy, who was startled at first but regained his composure when the girl looked at him innocently. Giving off a cute impression on the young twelve year old boy who flustered at how she looked.
"Otto... my name is Otto. Otto Suwen. What's your name?"
The boy, Otto, gave his name without a thought in reply. Now wondering why he carelessly told her his name.
"...I don't know... I don't think I have a name."
"Eh?"
Otto gave the girl a confused look. With said girl looking down as if in shame when she said she doesn't have a name. Her tone suggests it so.
This shocked the boy. Who doesn't have a name anyway?
"...Then, where are you from? I don't seem to recall you being from this city."
Avoiding the questions that formed inside his head from escaping his mouth, Otto asked a different question.
"Oh, I'm from the orphanage. The adults there are kind, but some are plain mean. Most of the kids there too and most of the girls are way older than I am."
The girl answered Otto's query. Surprising the boy once more.
He recalled an orphanage near the Market District in Picouttate. He heard that the kids staying in the orphanage were mostly abandoned and some lost their parents when coming to Picouttate from either bandits or Mabeasts attacking them.
Otto supposed that the girl was part of the former, but it surprised him that she wasn't given a name in that orphanage. It was that part of the story that shocked him.
Although he didn't have an idea why she wasn't given a name nor she doesn't have one. But the thought the redhead not having a name irked him.
"...Do you have anywhere you want to go? It's nearly dark, but there's a couple hours left. I can take you where if you want to."
He offered the girl, a part of him wanted to leave her alone but he had a strange feeling that he should go with her.
Otto didn't know why, but he felt it was appropriate. Even someone of his age would do something like this, right?
"You will?"
The girl beamed at Otto, who was surprised at her response. Blinking his eyes twice at the sudden development.
"Sure... I can take you wherever you want to go..."
Otto mentally cursed at his unsure answer which sounded that he doubted his own offer.
Fortunately, the girl didn't seem to mind his doubt as she grabbed his hand as she began to pull him.
"Yay! I just know a place nii-chan! I can tell you where it is!"
She said jubilantly, a childish joy can be seen on her face as if she knew the place where they were going to would make him like it.
Somehow, and in some way, Otto wouldn't forget the moment he met this girl.
"This is the place nii-chan! Do you like it?"
The girl asked at the exhausted Otto who looked to have been blown away by strong wind.
Earlier, Otto thought it was going to be somewhere near and easy to find. He believed it was going to be simply him and the girl walking at the streets, and going to the place she was leading him too.
But to shock and surprise, the girl has monstrous strength. Enough to make him lose his footing and fast enough that she carried him as if he weighed nothing at all.
It took a good five minutes. Five minutes of air mercilessly smashing into him.
When they made it to the place she wanted him to go to, Otto nearly lost his strength to stand by the time they've arrived.
"Hey, are you alright, nii-chan?"
"Never... do that... again... please?"
"Hmm... I don't know what you are talking about, but okay."
She gave Otto an innocent smile, but he couldn't tell she knew about it or not at all.
With a groan, Otto regained his strength and was able to stand on his feet. But his body still shudder at the experience.
"Now, what is it that you want to show me?"
The boy asked the girl. Who simply responded by pointing her finger in front of her.
Confused, the young Otto looked at the direction where her finger pointed and saw a bed of flowers.
Although the size of the flower bed may seem small, but the flowers on said area looked beautiful. As if it had been there for a long time now.
Then he heard the girl say.
"Hey, nii-chan, do you like flowers?"
The crimson-haired girl asked Otto. Anxiously waiting for his respond as if she was afraid what he was going to say was something negative. As if she could feel it.
Although Otto didn't know the reason why she asked that question, but he gave his answer.
"Honestly, I think they look great. I never knew there was a flower garden here."
"Really!? You mean it!?"
Otto nodded. In response, the girl beamed as if she be even more happier.
The young Suwen examined the flowers, taking into detail at how beautiful they really are.
He couldn't tell if this flower was rare or not. If he can recall correctly, there wasn't any kind of flower growing in this city.
He began to wonder whether or not these flowers are a new kind or had been lost a long time ago. But, he decided to enjoy the view.
Otto looked at the girl, still overjoyed by his positive remark, began thinking of a name for her.
A girl who loved flowers. Her hair as red as the burning crimson fire. Blue eyes that shine like gems. Strength beyond her appearance. Grace beyond words.
If Otto was honest with himself, the thought of naming a girl as if thinking it was a pet with no name irked him. But...
Looking at the nameless girl once more, the boy couldn't bear the thought to leave the young girl with no name to call her own. A name befitting of someone pure and deceptively strong.
He recalled a name in song and legend. A name that was regarded as a hero in days when his grandfather was young.
"Hey."
Otto called out to the girl. Stopping herself and looked at the older boy with reverent silence. As if the words of the boy meant that it was important.
"...What is it, nii-chan?"
She said, almost a whisper. The silence that surrounded them almost made Otto stop in his attempt.
"Do you..."
With hesitation and lowering his head, Otto couldn't bear the weight that what he was about to say could change this girl's life forever.
"...Want to be called as someone that you can go on as... even though we j-j-just met each other..."
The Ashen Grey haired child nearly fumbled in his own words. But he strengthened his resolve.
He looked at the girl, clasping both her hands as though she was anxiously waiting for what he was about to say.
Her beautiful blue eyes, and her that shone as bright as fire. The young girl's hope and dreams rested on the boy, who had experienced the worst of luck and the day he was forced to seal his own Divine Protection from those who called him as a Zodda Bug Freak.
He opened his mouth, but he couldn't utter.
The weight on him is too strong. He couldn't stand that whether or not he made the right decision. The burden that was placed on the girl he met not so long ago.
It might be cliche, it might be destiny, it might be foolishness of an omnipotent being that forced this burden on him.
With a deep breath, the boy uttered to the girl.
"Can I call you一一"
The girl's eyes widened as she heard the boy's uttered words. Her young heart skipped when he called out that one simple, but meaningful word.
Closing his eyes shut after he uttered that word that came from his mouth. A word that would be the young girl's name.
"一一Theresia..."
There was a powerful silence.
Neither the two did not utter or made a single noise.
Otto, who had decided on the name based on the legendary Sword Saint who had ended the Demi-Human War with her blade, who possessed a blazing red hair and blue eyes. Possessing a grace that many envied to possess.
The boy knew calling her on the name of the Sword Saint was foolish and unlikely for someone of a high standard can be used for a girl he only just met within an hour.
Mentally bracing himself for the possible rejection of the name, the boy looked at the nameless girl. But what he saw shocked him.
Instead of the confusion he expected on the girl after he said. He only saw tears streaming on her face.
It wasn't something that could've hurt her, nor was it that possessed any curse to her.
No, what he said had made a great impact on the girl. The girl he only knew who slept on Frufoo's back and possessed monstrous strength.
Then, he heard the girl utter.
"Theresia... is that... going to be my name?"
She asked the ashen-haired boy, who was struck by an impression that he didn't know existed until now. An expression that defy all logic.
Otto Suwen simply nodded.
"Then... please... call me Theresia..."
The girl, who now calls herself Theresia, after the Sword Saint that ended the Demi-Human War and ended her life by the White Whale, brought a grateful smile on the boy who decided it for her.
"Thank you, Otto-nii."
The young girl, Theresia, said to the young boy who had given her name. Giving him her gratitude.
Although Otto was overwhelmed by this, but seeing her gratitude was enough for him to stand on his own resolve.
"You're welcome, Theresia."
Thus starts a new page of their life.
