"CHARGE"
Come on. You are strong. You can do this. Your family needs you. You can fight this.
Beep Beep Beep
"We got her back."
There was a sigh of relief heard from everyone in the room as we all tried to keep working on this young girl. We needed to stabilize her before giving her family an update about her.
We had secured two of the seven of the fragments that hit this girl's abdomen area. The one that was most concerning was the one that impacted her head. We still could not tell if it had caused a brain bleed or something that could cause her significant problems for the rest of her life.
"Stay with us, Callie."
Chapter 8
Stef's Pov
The doctor found us sometime later in Mariana's room. I felt his presence in the doorway and when I turned to see that he was standing there with a grim look my heart dropped.
"Doctor?" I asked the question I was wondering without having to say the words.
"Callie is holding on for now. We need to give her time to stabilize before bringing her back to the OR."
"She is alive?" Lena cried out.
"Yes, but I want to make sure that you prepare yourselves. Callie is critical. We were able to secure two out of the seven bullet fragments."
"Can we see her?" I ask him.
"Of course. I will get a nurse to help you to her room."
"Thank you", I gasped out.
The nurse came into the room a few minutes later and led us to the ICU. When Callie came into view I could not stop the tears from rolling down my face. There were wires everywhere and a giant tube coming out of her mouth. I moved to her bedside.
"Oh, baby. I love you. I love you so much, Cal. I am sorry. Please Callie fight for us. You are wanted more than you could ever know", I cried.
How could this happen? This morning was wonderful. I was with my wife and all my children, and then Callie told us that she and Brandon had an intimate moment. I thought that was going to be the worst thing to happen to me, but then I found out that Nick had a gun and apparently he was not the only one.
Lena grabbed Callie's hand and bent down to whisper in her ear. I could barely make out what she was saying, but it sounded like I am not mad Callie. I do not hate you. I love you, so please do not leave me.
I pulled a chair up next to Callie's bed. I lay my head next to her arm. I must have fallen asleep because when I looked up next it was dark outside. I reached for my phone and I noticed I had a text from Mike.
Mike: I am taking the boys to your house. Keep us updated.
I smiled. I was happy that Mike and I were still good friends after our divorce. Lena was sound asleep on the other side of Callie's bed. I went and gave her a kiss on her forehead before heading out of the room to check on Mariana.
Mariana was sleeping soundly. I pulled up a chair next to her bed grabbing her hand in the process. I sat there staring at her, my beautiful little girl.
Her eyes started opening, "Hey there Miss Thing."
"Mom?" She asked and I could tell her throat was dry.
I reached over to get a glass of water with a straw and brought it to her mouth, "I am right here. How are you feeling baby?"
She drank the water with greed, "Slow down. You do not want to get sick."
"I feel much better", she said with a sigh, "Thanks."
She looked around for a minute, "Where's mama?"
"She is with Callie", I told her.
Mariana looked confused but let it slide. I brushed some of her hair off of her face.
"I love you."
"I love you too mom."
We sat there in silence for a little bit longer until I saw her eyes starting to droop
"Get some rest baby", I said, kissing her forehead.
Lena's Pov
When I woke up I noticed that it was dark outside and that Stef was gone. I was also gripping Callie's hand tightly.
I looked up at her face. I could barely see it through all of the wires and tubes. Oh, Callie. How did this happen to you?
I stared at her. I thought it was my imagination playing tricks on me as I watched her lips lose their color and turn to the blueish color that I witnessed earlier, but I knew I was not imagining it when she started to shake.
"Callie!" I screamed, "I need some help!"
Nurses ran into the room as well as the doctor. Everything started to move fast. They were talking to each other trying to get Callie to become stable again, but nothing they were trying was working.
"What is happening?" I asked out to anyone hoping someone would answer.
"We have to get her back to the OR", the doctor said as they started to wheel Callie away.
Please don't die. Please don't leave us. Please don't leave me, baby.
