From Paleblood to Darkwine
Prince Jae
Summary:
What if instead of an adventurer, Bell was a vampire? What if, instead of noble notions, Zeus wanted to use Bell? What if, the darkness hid something more than the eye could see?
When a childhood friend sacrificed her life to save his, Bell's life took a different path. A new, dark and cruel destiny awaited him as the apex predator – a vampire.
Notes:
Welp~ It seems that I can't stick to one idea, but that's something that I quite like about myself.
So, before we start reading, let me say some things you might want to know:
a.- There will be lemons. Important, sensual, and meaningful.
b.- More realism into the magical universe of DanMachi. Characters' personalities evolving. Some characters would have to be Out of Character (OOC), because let's be honest no one is the same if they go through a different path of life.
c.- Bell Cranel is smart and older. I don't like using underage characters, and this is not exception.
And that's it. Future notes will add something missing or point out something important.
Warning!
What you are about to read is a fanfic – a partial or total modification of a story. It needs an already written story to work, probably a commercial one. The additional content provided by the fanfic is of my doing, by no means I look for economic benefits while writing this story; as this work was made by me (a fan) for the sole enjoyment of the community.
Chapter 1: Moonlight Nightmare
Heat. Burning. The golden tongues of the flames engulfed entire trees and fallen debris, consuming it, even those unfortunates were trapped in the heated embrace of the fire creating an awful and horrible smell of burned meat, wood and more. Bell wrinkled his tiny nose in a futile attempt to ignore the growing odour.
It was fruitless.
Smoke rose from the heated ground and debris. And the young boy fell on his knees, coughing blood and gasping for air.
"Bell!" Someone screamed his name desperately, and soon a pair of hands grabbed his head. "Bell—" She cried. "D- Don't—"
But he couldn't keep his eyes open due to the heat. He could still hear the screams, the shouts, the sound of fire eating wood and plants. Bell feared that if he opened his eyes, they would melt like ice on a sunny day… then he cried.
And he cried.
Ignoring the gentle hands that wiped the tears off of his cheeks.
"I- I- I don't want t- to die—" He sobbed.
"Shhh…" She tried to calm him, but she couldn't, her eyes were weeping as she tried to soothe him. "B- Bell," She called him, again. "Please, please, open your eyes—"
"N- No! T- They'll melt,"
A cold, sudden and painless numbness overtook his senses, making him forget of the burning sensation on his skin; making him ignore the agony of his broken bones and wounds. But he couldn't move his limbs or do any gesture, let alone move his fingers. Bell wanted to cry his heart out, but, for some reason, he found himself lacking air too.
He gasped. And she growled… a feral growl.
"Please!" She screamed this time. "P- Please! Please! Don't you dare die on me! I- I can't—" She growled again, furiously. A slurping sound muffled his hearing. "I- I can't lose you too… Y- you must live!"
Her growling died suddenly and he stopped hearing that slurping sound whenever she stopped talking.
A cracking sound, the unique whine of wood getting twisted alarmed him. A sudden and heavy thud was heard.
She screamed.
He gasped for air.
"P- Please, B- Bell!"
He forced his eyelids to open slowly, not feeling the melting heat surrounding them. And he widened his eyes when he took notice of her.
A tree branch pierced her heart.
Blood poured from her smiling lips, mixing with her tears.
Her blood.
His blood.
Their blood mixed on her red lips, he noticed her sharp and long fangs dyed in crimson-red.
But he couldn't see her face, hidden under a thick myriad of shadows and lights, only he could make out her shinning vibrant red eyes and her slitted pupils – slitted as those of a cat or a snake.
They inspired fear in the hearts of man, but they were warm to him.
Sharp and dangerous, but gentle and playful to him.
He recognized her eyes.
Red as blood.
"E- E- El—" He coughed blood.
But she pressed a slender finger on top of his lips, silencing him. Her smiling growing an inch, but he could see through the shadows, the pain she felt.
"Hush…" Her fangs showing and her eyes glistening as they weep. "Hush, sweet boy—"
She grunted, and he blinked tiredly.
Dread filled his heart. "A- A- Are we going—"
Her eyes shone brighter.
"No!" She yelled, blood and saliva running down the corner of her lips. "W- We—" She held her words, wincing in pain. "Y- you're not going to die, B- Bell! I- I won't let you…"
Another cracking sound silenced their chatting as a tree fell, nearer than the one that hit her and stabbed that tree branch on her back. Bell closed his eyes once again.
She yelped.
And he wanted to cry.
"B- Bell," she struggled to speak.
And the boy forced his eyes to be opened, his face expressing the hopelessness and powerless he felt. But she kept smiling, that bloody smile.
Droplets of blood fell from the pointy end of the three branch that punctured her chest. Droplets of blood that soon fell on his face, on his lips and on his mouth.
Iron taste.
But…
Sweet too.
"B- Bell," she said again, and he ignored the thirst he now felt.
He fixed his barely open eyes, the same eyes that seemed to shine as bright as hers… the pupil getting slitter by the seconds but not as pronounced as hers.
And she smiled.
"D- Do you want to live?" She asked.
And as the falling tree hit the ground, lifting a dense cloud of embers, ashes and cinders, covering his sight, Bell directed his attention to her blood falling from the pointy end. She smiled even more… Fire engulfed the whole scenario, surrounding them, creating an endless myriad of shadows and lights.
She held her arms open to him.
And Bell tried to reach her.
But darkness began to consume his sight. A heavy feeling overpowering his senses, dulling them, making him feel more dizzy and tired than before.
And, as if by doing it he would get more willpower, Bell answered her question.
"I- I want to—" But he got close, and his consciousness slipped. "Live…"
And nothingness fogged his mind. A gentle giggle lulling him to sleep… and a sharp pain on his neck.
