A/N: I hope your excited cause I'm uploading back to back on the same day! Like always, I hope you enjoy reading this as I am thoroughly enjoying writing it. Please review it whether you liked it or not because it motivates me to do better and get chapters out quicker. I know that sounds sorta cliché but its true. Again, enjoy!

Disclaimer: I do not own One Piece or Attack on Titan. Those belong respectively to Eiichiro Oda and Hajime Isayama.

It had been a day since the fall of Shiganshina and Luffy couldn't get a wink of sleep. If you were to hear what he went through, you might assume that he may be upset that so many people died and he was, but that was not what was bothering him at the moment.

"How are we supposed to be free when we can't fight back," Luffy asked himself. He wasn't sad. No, he was confused. How was he supposed to adventure the world when those things would constantly halt him at every turn? What could he-

"Oi kid, what are you doing here?" Luffy quickly turned his attention to the masculine voice near the door of the random shed he was sleeping in. The man had a short crop of brown hair with blue eyes and tanned skin. The man wore something Luffy immediately recognized as a soldier's uniform with the classic scout's symbol on said light brown jacket.

"AWESOME! ARE YOU A SCOUT?!" Luffy said with stars for eyes as he jumped up and down in place. This action obviously flustered the man as he sweat dropped. Shaking it off, the man cleared his voice to get Luffy's attention. "Hey cut it out. I asked you a question. What are you doing here?" The man demanded as he narrowed his eyes at the now still figure of Luffy.

"…N-Nothing at all" Luffy said as he whistled and looked off to the side.

"YOUR OBVIOUSLY LYING!" The man yelled with shark teeth causing Luffy to fall down thanks to the volume of his voice.

"Who cares what I'm doing here, please tell me your name!" Luffy said as his star eyes returned as he began to repeatedly question the man of what his name was. The man let out a sigh as he stared at the boy. "My name is Gunther Schultz, I'm as you can see, a scout." Gunther spoke as he introduced himself.

"Ohhhh so your names Gutter Shell. That's a pretty weird name though." Luffy said slightly disappointed. This caused the man to let out another sigh as he leaned against the door to the shed he was in. "So now answer my question please. What are you doing here? You do know this is an official scouts building right? You could be put in jail for as long as a month if your caught trespassing."

"Huh? I'm in an official scouts building? But this place is so boring." Luffy said as frowned while looking around. There were only ropes, weights, and a stool in the rather small area they were in.

"Well, this is where I work out" Gunther said as he moved closer to Luffy. "Now answer my question. I'm only asking one last time before I turn you in." Gunther said as he moved closer clearly trying to intimidate the young Luffy. Unfortunately, this had no real effect on Luffy as he looked at him weirdly before sighing.

"Alright, alright I'll tell you" Luffy said as he sat down on the stool and told him what had happened in the past 24 hours.

5 minutes later,

Gunther had a melancholy look as he looked at Luffy. 'What a poor young boy' he said as he looked at Luffy.

"So.. did your parents.." Gunther started, hoping that Luffy would understand what he was getting at.

Luffy looked at him funny before he finally caught on. "Parents? What parents? I don't have parents." Luffy spoke.

"So, you've never met your parents before?" Gunther questioned. He needed to know if it was possible to contact his parents before, whether they have met him or not.

"Nope. All I really know about myself is when I was born and I sometimes forget about that too." Luffy spoke as he sheepishly rubbed the back of his head. 'Hm, seems like I have no choice but to- '

"Hey Gutter," Luffy spoke, ignoring the glare he received as he once again got his name wrong. "Can I…join the scouts!" Luffy said as he immediately bowed his head as Gunther's glare turned into a look of shock. 'He wants to join the scouts?' Gunther thought as he turned his head to the ground.

"Well…you can't just immediately join the scouts. You have to go through the training corps first, and that alone takes at least 2 years before you can become an official scout." Gunther explained to Luffy as Luffy's head immediately shot up with a grin plastered over his face as he laughed.

"Thanks Gutter! Well I'm off!" Luffy said as he began to run to the door but before he could go through it, Gunther stood in his way.

"H-Hey hold on a second. Do you even know how to read? I mean if you have no parents I find it hard to imagine that you have any education." Gunther quickly said, noting that Luffy was annoyed for him getting in his way.

"W-Wait you need to learn to go adventure?!" Luffy said, mouth agape as he was not expecting to have to learn to accomplish his dream. Gunther sighed as he crossed his arm keeping eye contact with Luffy as he narrowed his eyes. "It's necessary to at least have a basic level of education if you want to be considered a scout." He said, Luffy's shoulders sinking in the process.

There was a silence between the two before Gunther once again spoke up. "Hey, I just realized this now, but I don't know your name. Mind telling me what it is?" Gunther said.

"It's Luffy. Just Luffy." Luffy said with a monotone voice and no emotion visible on his face.

"Luffy, do you mind telling me what your dream is? You don't have to- "

"My dream is to be free." Luffy spoke as a grin reappeared on his face, as if simply talking about the concept brought him unlimited joy and will. Gunther's eyes narrowed however as he looked the boy up and down. "Why do you want to be free? Is there a reason?" Gunther said, eyes remaining narrowed.

"A reason? It's so I can see it all! So, I can go on adventures and explore all this world has to offer. And to go on adventures I need to be free" Luffy said as his grin only seemed to grow talking about it more. He was shook out of his stupor however thanks to a boisterous laugh. He looked at Gunther to see him laughing before he stopped to look at Luffy with a smirk on his face.

"You know what Luffy, I'll help you get an education. So please become a scout so you can go be free!" Gunther said as he began to laugh again.

"R-REALLY!? THANK YOU GUTTER!" Luffy said as jumped onto Gunther as he too began laughing.

"MY NAMES NOT GUTTER ITS GUNTHER YOU FOOL, GET IT RIGHT!" Gunther said as he slammed his fist into Luffy's head which resulted in Luffy curling up into a ball while holding back tears. Gunther sighed. "Okay what I'm going to teach you is not only education but technique and strength too." Gunther said as he began to look at the equipment in the storage room. "As you saw before, there are only a few things in here that we can use to personally train. But all of these things can help when it comes to slaying titans." Gunther explained as he picked up the weight. "For example, you can use the weights to build muscle which will be necessary in order successfully slash a titan's nape," Gunther explained as he set the weight back on the ground."

"Oi slow down for second" Luffy said as he looked a little confused. "What's a nape?" Luffy asked.

"Oh, that's right you probably don't know. The nape is an area on the back of the neck and the only weak point of the titans" Gunther explained. "In other words, it doesn't matter if you blow it's head off, as long as its nape is still intact, then it won't die." Gunther finished.

"Oh, I get it" Luffy said as he had a face splitting smile. 'Something tells me he doesn't really get it' Gunther said as he sweat dropped. "Alright just in case you didn't already know, its gonna take a while to not only train you, but also help you get a basic education." Gunther said. "In fact, I'm gonna take two years to train you whenever I can so that you are prepared when it comes time for the training corps." Gunther further explained.

Luffy's eyes practically popped out of his skull. "T-Two years that's too long! Am I even gonna be able to join the training corps at that age?!" He exclaimed.

"Don't worry about that. Like I said you're gonna be training and learning a lot, but for where you'll be staying, I have no choice but to leave you here. I expect that to be fine." Gunther said as his eyes narrowed.

"Yeah, yeah that's fine" Luffy said shrugging it off despite the little space there. "As long as I can be a scout eventually, I don't care where I have to sleep or what I have to do." Luffy proclaimed with a huge grin plastered upon his face. A grin appeared on Gunther's face.

"Alright, then let's begin right now" Gunther said as Luffy's training and education began.

A/N: So how'd you feel about me adding Gunther into the plot? I was considering it being Miche who becomes Luffy's teacher but Gunther kinda won me over and I get a little more freedom with his character seeing as we don't know a ton about him. Also, I plan for this to be a fairly long fan-fiction and I hope to at least write to the end of Season 2 or 3 but ideally would like to go even beyond that. Again please review, it helps me more then anything when it comes to motivation. Have a great day!
