A/N: Hey everybody and welcome to another chapter of "Perspective of Freedom". Last time, we got our first real interaction between Annie and Luffy! This chapter will finally be covering Kiera's backstory, so I hope you are ready for that! In my bio, I've also added what I imagine Kiera looks like for people who can't get it visually so go check that out! I've decided that the next chapter will be the last chapter of Part 1. Reviews are at the bottom so make sure to go check those out, but without further ado let's get right into it!

6:30 P.M. 1 month later,
Kiera is walking down the pathway from the ODM training grounds, to the cafeteria.
'This is so frustrating,' Kiera thought as she began to slump her shoulders further down. She hadn't done bad today in the ODM gear training. She hadn't but that wasn't what was frustrating to her. Most of her frustration stemmed from the fact that she wasn't strong enough. She had plenty of weaknesses and that was what made her disappointed in herself.
A sigh escaped from her mouth as she looked up at the sky.
'Maybe one day, I'll be like them.' Kiera thought as she began to think back to the time where she first found her motivation to be a solider.
5 years ago, when Kiera was 9…
A young Kiera is racing down the halls of her gigantic mansion with a butler chasing after her. She wore a white night gown with slippers as she giggled while she ran through the enormous halls.
"Miss Kiera! Miss Kiera! Please stop!" The butler yelled in worry as the two ran down the halls of the mansion.
"Never!" The young Kiera yelled out as she laughed triumphantly as she successfully evaded the butler at every turn and corner they came across. As she was nearing the final corner near the exit, a hand grabbed the back of the girl's dress collar and lifted her off the ground. When she turned around to see who grabbed her, sweat immediately began to trickle down her face as the eyes she met with was with none other than her older brother, Leon Schultheiss.
3 minutes later…
"I'm sorry, big brother…" Kiera said as she slowly bowed her head towards Leon. He only laughed though as he kneeled to the ground so that he can meet her eyes level.
Leon was a rather tall man with short white hair and blue eyes, similar to Kiera herself. He wore the classic military uniform that all members of the military wore. The Schultheiss were rather well know throughout Wall Sina for being involved in the military. They had a long line of commanders, captains, or just all around well decorated soldiers. Because of their lineage they were perhaps second or third only to the king in terms of royalty, as they were proven to be quite loyal.
"Hey Kiera," Leon said as he attempted to look Kiera in the eyes, but to no avail as she dodged eye contact. Kiera already had a feeling she knew what he was going to ask.
"Why do you always try and run away? I'm sure you probably don't mean it, but it hurts me and Mother and Father's feelings." Leon explained as Kiera sheepishly continued to look away.
"I-I don't mean to," Kiera said shyly. "I-It's just, I don't wanna become a solider!" Kiera said as she finally mustered up the courage to shout out her reasoning. This reasoning caught Leon off guard for a second before he sighed out. Before Kiera could worry about what that sigh meant, he immediately bounced back with a small half smile.
"You know, I was kind of the same to, now that I think about it." Leon said as this sentence caught smol Kiera's attention.
"But the thing that learned was that soldiers are not made, they are born. I know that might sound a little weird, but that's just kind of how it is for us Schultheiss's." Leon explained as he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck with an awkward smile.
Kiera however didn't seem to get this at all and only raised an eyebrow at the quote. This caused Leon to get bright red before he requested that Kiera be taken back to her room.
Later in the night…
It was now quite late in the night and Kiera was back in her room, staring up at the ceiling from her bed. She was currently contemplating what her brother said and what he meant. As she is laying there, she hears the door open as turns to look who came in, she notices that she doesn't know the person who came in. He is wearing a butler outfit that most of the butler's wore in the house but she didn't recognize this person out of the 20 or so butlers that frequented the mansion.
"C-Can I help you?" The young Kiera said as she stood up somewhat defensively as she tried to remember what little she remembered from her combat classes.
"No little one, but I believe you can help me." The stranger said as he suddenly snapped. After he snapped, she felt a hand come across her face with a rag or something and soon after she fell unconscious.
2 weeks later…
Kiera was currently riding in a horse drawn carriage, tied up and blindfolded. Ordinarily, she wouldn't be able to tell where she was, but at the very least she knew the name of where she was headed, Shiganshina. The reason she knew this bit of information, is because soon after she woke up, she overheard her kidnappers talking about how they were going to hold her for ransom and how they were going to travel as far away from Wall Sina as possible so that they wouldn't know where to find them.
Unfortunately, they soon figured out that she was awake and immediately knocked her out with that mysterious rag that he was carrying around. After she woke up the second time, she found herself blindfolded and tied up. She had tried to escape a few times since she was kidnapped, but all resulted in her getting caught and unable to do anything.
It had since been a few days of just lying in the carriage, doing nothing. However, that wouldn't last as suddenly she began to here people speaking. She soon got curious about her whereabouts and began to try and fidget with her blindfold, but to no avail as she was immediately caught by her captors and told to stop.
A few minutes later, and the carriage would suddenly stop. She was sure that they were in a building as it had previously been light outside and suddenly got super dark. She also began to hear her captors jump out of the carriage and make stretching noises as it had been quite a long journey.
"W-Where are we?" Kiera asked as suddenly she felt herself be carried by a relatively small man. She was eventually dropped near a post and tied to it. After this, her blindfold was taken off, and she finally got a better look at her two captors. The first one, that was in the butler outfit, had greying hair that was otherwise black and green eyes. The other one seemed much younger and had brown hair and brown eyes. They both were of average height and they both wore the same outfit that consisted of a white long-sleeved shirt, and overalls. When she looked around, she could hardly make out anything as it was almost pitch dark aside from the single lamp that was directly above where she was.
"Little one, I don't believe you need to know where we are, do you?" The older one asked as he kneeled down to where she was tied up. She shivered as she got chills just looking at him.
"L-Let me go! You don't want my family going after you! A-A lot of us are soldiers, you know?! You'll get in big trouble if they find you!" Kiera said as she attempted to persuade her captors into letting her go. This unfortunately doesn't seem to lead to anything as they only laugh at her attempts.
"Little girl do you really think anything could-" Before the younger one could finish his sentence though, a big brick hit him in the back of the head from far away.
"Oswin!" The older one shouted as blood appeared next to the one now named Oswin's head as he was at the very least KO'ed.
"W-Who's there!" The older one shouted in a panic as he wasn't sure of the state of his partner. Before he could even get another word out, the rag in which he used to knock out Kiera, was wrapped around his mouth as it seemed like a child the age of Kiera was attacking the much older man. The older man attempted to fight back by pounding his back (which the child was on) against a wall in attempt to know the child off. Unfortunately for the man, the child was tough and soon after the rag began to have it's effect on the man as he slowly fell unconscious.
"O-Ouch!" The young boy said as he held his back in pain. Before Kiera could begin to worry about him, he bounced back with a large smile that seemed to split his face.
"Are you okay?" The young boy said as he went to untie the young Kiera.
"Y-Yeah I think so." Kiera said as she was kind of shocked that someone as old as her could take someone on as old as them.
"Good! Well, let's get you to some soldiers around here!" Luffy said as he led her out by hand of what now seemed to be a small barn that she was staying in.
She blushed at the contact but otherwise let him lead her out of the building and to some Garrison soldiers.
She soon realized that she had yet to ask anything of the young boy or even thank him. But before she could ask anything he runs off only leaving her with one final sentence to remember him by.
"See ya!" The boy says as he runs off into the busy streets of Shiganshina.
Present time…
She never met this boy again as she wasn't allowed to leave her mansion again after the incident until she got full training so that a repeat of this incident wouldn't happen again.
After she was dropped off by the boy she was also able to see for the first time what the world looked like beyond Wall Sina. And she didn't find it pretty. There were thieves running amok and beggars on most street corners. She realized then how privileged she was that she could eat without worrying if she would run out of food the next day.
In the mission to retake Wall Maria, it turned out that her brother Leon died in the fight. She was in grief for a while before she remembered what her brother said to her the night she got kidnapped.
'But the thing that learned was that soldiers are not made, they are born.' Kiera thought as she continued to look at the orange sky.
'Yeah, I want to be like those two, and save people without asking for anything in return.'

A/N: So how was this chapter? I think I did a pretty good job but let me know if you think I could have done something better. I do think I might have rushed the end a little but I'm still pretty proud of this chapter regardless. Anyway if you think I did really good, tell me, because that makes me feel really good ;) Anway lets get onto reviews! Hope you have a good rest of you day/night!
Reviews:
Chickenhell: First off thanks for the support as always. But as I said last chapter, I like Krista more as a friend of Luffy's more than a love interest. In fact I can almost guarantee you that the only ones that will have feeling for Luffy are Annie and Kiera.
Guts The Man88: Thanks for the support! Also I won't be covering in the story how he got the scar under his eye, but I will be covering when he gets the scar on his chest (which will happen). To let you know when he got the scar, it was before the fall of Wall Maria, but after Kiera's backstory.
mixioner538: Okay thank you for your input! I really wasn't sure how some people would feel about these 'slice of life' chapters. As I said last time, I don't plan for all chapters to be like that, but there were always be chapters like the last one that are pretty slice of life heavy. Thanks for the input!
brandonmunoz499: I mean I'm sorry… but he probably will? I mean they are already friends so I don't know what your expecting. Thanks for the support though! It truly does mean a lot that you guys say such kind things in the reviews, it gives me more confidence in my writing ability!
ppsspp: The title of this story is sort of based on the contrast and comparison of Luffy's sense of freedom, compared to others. For example, later down the line (i.e. right around where season 4 will take place in the anime) we will get a big comparison of Luffy and Eren's sense of freedom, and where it's lead each of them. Also Luffy will be having his own sword attacks! Thanks for the support as always!
KyngKena: I would like to answer that, but that would pretty much be a spoiler wouldn't it? If it makes you feel better, by the end of this fan-fic Luffy will 100% be the strongest in this AU.
