It was the first day at Hexside for Luz and Emily, and the latter had chosen the Oracle track in hopes that she could figure out who her birth mother was, and in the Oracle classroom, she was busy looking into a crystal ball for answers.
"Come on", Emily said, "give me something."
As she gazed into the crystal ball, Emily noticed Alaric appear in it, but she couldn't tell who he was.
"Who's that guy", Emily asked, "is he my dad?"
Alaric disappeared from the crystal ball, and Emily got to thinking.
"Looks like there's quite a bit of stuff that I need to figure out", Emily said.
Later, in the halls, Emily was walking with Tracey, when they heard the sound of Amity screaming.
"What was that", Amelia asked.
"Sounded like Amity", Emily said, "and it came from that way."
Emily and Amelia went in the direction they heard the scream, and found a basilisk holding Amity in its tail.
"Is that a basilisk", Amelia asked, "I thought they were all extinct."
"We have to help her", Emily said.
"But how", Amelia asked.
As they began thinking about how they would save Amity, Luz arrived with an ice glyph and used it to help free Amity, and the four friends hurried over to the Detention Track room.
"That was close", Emily said, "nice work back there, Luz."
"Thanks", Luz said, "but what was that thing, anyway?"
"A basilisk", Amelia said, "they're creatures that can suck the magic out of any living being."
"It attacked a few students earlier", Amity said, "I was about to be its next victim, but then Luz showed up and saved me."
"It was nothing", Luz said, "what are friends for?"
"Well, I really appreciate it, Luz", Amity said.
"Glad I could help", Luz said.
"What's the plan now", Emily asked, "how are we supposed to stop that thing?"
"I might have an idea", Luz said, "come with me."
"Where to", Amity asked.
"You'll see", Luz said.
Luz opened a secret door behind the chalkboard and led them into a secret room.
"What is this place", Emily asked.
"It's called the Secret Room of Shortcuts", Luz said, "it has secret passages to all kinds of places in this school."
"How'd you discover it", Amity asked.
"It's a long story", Luz said.
They then found three Hexside students named Viney, Jerbo, and Barcus sitting down on the floor together.
"Hey, guys", Luz said.
"What do you want, Luz", Jerbo said.
"We need your help", Luz said, "the school's being attacked by a basilisk."
"A basilisk", Viney asked, "how's that possible?"
"We don't know, but it's already sucked the magic out of lots of students and almost did the same to me", Amity said.
"We could really use your help", Amelia said.
"Where did you last see it", Jerbo asked.
"Follow us", Luz said.
A little later, the basilisk was slithering down the halls in search of more students to steal magic from, when suddenly, it was grabbed behind by a pair of abominations, courtesy of Amity and Jerbo.
"Nice work, you guys", Luz said.
"What now", Amity asked.
"Keep squeezing", Emily said, "if what I know about basilisks is correct, then that should release all of the magic it stole."
The two abominations began tightening they grip on the basilisk and squeezed its body, and soon enough, the magic it had stolen managed to escape it and returned to all the students in the school, and once that happened, the basilisk fell to the ground, unconcious.
"We did it", Luz said.
The group of witches began celebrating, when they heard the sound of a familiar voice.
"Yes, indeed", the voice said.
The voice belonged to none other than Principal Bump.
"Thanks to you kids, you prevented what could have been a major catastrophe", Principal Bump said, "how can I ever thank you?"
Luz thought to herself for a moment.
"Well", Luz said, "there is one way."
Luz convinced Principal Bump to let her, Emily , and the three Detention Track students to let them study multiple tracks, and at the end of the day, Luz and Emily walked back to the Owl House wearing multi-colored uniforms, signifying that they would be studying every track, and meanwhile, Alaric was feeling frustrated about something.
"I should've know better than to entrust that mission to a basilisk", Alaric said, "now what am I going to do?"
