Makai Knight Huntress

"You just had to convince me of accepting the invite to Beacon Academy, didn't you Zaruba?" Kali questioned driving Gōten through the streets of Vale.

"If I recall, it was you who chose to accept the invite. I just spoke my mind." Zaruba stated, sitting in Gōten's ignition.

"Still, I can't believe I'm doing this." Kali sighed, as she left the city limits, and went along the road, leading to the cliffside of Beacon Academy.

"Would you relax Kali?" Zaruba questioned. "You'll be fine. Just don't do anything to draw too much attention to yourself?"

"Like talking to you in public?" She questioned.

"Or drink that bottle of rare wine you stole from that village leaders wine cellar, in public." Zaruba stated.

"Hey, it was his fault he tried to kill me in the first place. He's lucky I didn't report his ass." Kali said.

"Yet somehow he still got arrested by Atlesian Military Officer Winter Schnee." Zaruba said. "You think it was Qrow's doing?"

"I don't think, I know." Kali said. "Qrow asked if he was still alive, so it's fair to assume he had some idea of what really happened to the other Huntsmen and Huntresses hired by that village leader."

"It was disgusting how he preserved the Huntresses bodies and kept them for his own personal pleasure." Zaruba said. "Wish I could unsee that from when his home was searched."

"Same." Kali sighed. "I shudder at the thought of that happening to me. The sicko was so desperate for a harem, he made one by force, out of the taxidermied corpses. He even altered some of their bodies to make them look like they were having his… his… I think I'm gonna…"

Kali stopped Gōten, before hopping off, and ducking her head behind a tree, as she expelled her breakfast, as the memory of what she saw caused her to lose it.

"There, there Kali. You fight Grimm and Horrors on a daily, and sometimes nightly basis." Zaruba said.

"None of those… made Huntress corpses look heavily pregnant via surgery and taxidermy." Kali grumbled, before she vomited the remainder of her breakfast.

"True, I suppose when you put it like that, it does make one sick to their stomach." Zaruba stated.

"An' I was almost part of it." Kali sighed, wiping the excess vomit from her chin, and tossing the handkerchief she used, to the side of the road. "I'm just glad my senses kicked in and I smelt the poison before I ate the food."

"Speaking of… are you sure the wine isn't poisoned?"

"I took a whiff of it before we left the village, after grabbing it. I would have smelt the poison, as it would have been unable to mix with the alcohol." Kali sighed, mounting Gōten again, and continuing the drive to.

"Yes, your senses are keenly aware, more so than any other Faunus alive." Zaruba said. "If only Sword could see you now."

"Don't mention that deadbeat." Kali groaned.

"Still sore I see." Zaruba said. "Fine, but you do know he'll come to take me, the bike, and the sword back from you."

"Why do you think I've been traveling non-stop?" Kali questioned.

"Do you wanna talk about what he did?" Zaruba asked.

"No." Kali said, as she reached the school courtyard. "Besides, we're in public now, can't be seen, talking to my ring."

"So be it." Zaruba said as Kali parked her bike, and took him from the ignition.

Grabbing her bag from the back of the bike, Kali made her way through the courtyard, hoping to not draw too much attention to herself. But that didn't seem to work out, as she sensed someone's hand reaching for her ass. Before they could grab it, Kali kicked back, her foot hitting the man in the stomach, and knocking him back, as she pivoted on her foot, and turned to look at him, before her eyes widened, and she looked annoyed.

"You gotta be fucking kidding me." Kali groaned.

"Good seeing you again to, my lovely Canine Kali."

Sitting on the ground, having been knocked on his ass, was a young man, who like Kali, was a rare breed of Faunus who could pass for human, unless otherwise revealed, and around his neck was a small crucifix, with an ornate skull in the center of the two parts, with a completely different design to Zaruba's. The young man had messy lavender violet hair, and sapphire eyes, while also looking like he could qualify as a middle weight fighting champion, dressed in a black muscle shirt, with a matching vest, and cargo pants, with armored shin guards and detachable steel souls on his boots.

"Wish I could say the same, Verda." Kali said, putting a hand on her hip. "What the hell are you doing here?"

"Same thing as you, I was offered a place here at Beacon Academy." Verda smirked, as he got back up on his feet.

"You haven't changed. Even when we were kids, you'd grab my ass without my permission. Resulting in me, always kicking yours." Kali sighed.

"Sazura, it's been some time." Zaruba said.

"So it has Zaruba." The skull on Verda's crucifix said. "I assume you're doing well?"

"I am." Zaruba smiled.

"So I see you've got Sazura. Guess that means you finally inherited the Mantle of the Ruby Armor." Kali said.

"An' I see you're still carrying the stolen Zaruba. You know you can't wield the armor."

"Why? Because I'm a woman, and I don't have a dick like you or my bastard of a father?" Kali questioned. "Last I checked, the armor chooses who inherits it. I don't see why me being to one to dawn it is an impossibility, unless that useless bastard of a father sired more children while I've been gone."

"No, as far as we're aware, Sword still hasn't produced anymore offspring than you." Verda sighed. "But he's still right pissed you stole Zaruba, Garoken, and Gōten."

"Good." Kali said. "At least now this should get him thinking on laughing at me for wanting to become a Makai Knight."

"You know as well as I that there's never been a female Makai Knight. Even going back to the records of the world your father, and my mother came from before the destruction of El Dorado, no woman has ever dawned the armor of a Makai Knight." Verda said.

"Then I'll be the first to break that cycle." Kali stated.

"Kali, it's time you quit these delusional fantasies, and just return Zaruba and Garoken to your father." Verda stated.

"Not happening. I'll prove I can wear the armor, just as well as any man." Kali stated.

"You know what, fine. If that's how you wanna play it, then let's make this interesting." Verda said. "Beacon's initiation exams are tomorrow. If you can manage to put on, at least a piece of the golden armor, I'll concede and stop pestering you about returning the armor, hell I'll even give you mine."

"You can't do that." Kali said.

"Unlike the Golden Armor, the Ruby Armor can be passed down to anyone I choose, even someone not of my bloodline. I'll give you the armor, so you'll have double the arsenal, if you're able to put on at least a piece of the Golden Armor." Verda stated.

"Your mother spent years of her life, making that armor after learning the methods of creation from the spirits of alchemists of old. Are you sure you're willing to part with it?" Kali asked.

"That's how confident I am." Verda said. "But if you can't even manage to put on a piece of the armor, or bring out some of its true power, then you will return Zaruba, and Garoken, to your father."

"Fine. I'd suggest you say your goodbyes to Sazura tonight. Because come this time tomorrow, I'll be wearing her around my neck." Kali said, before turning around and walking off.

Before Kali could even take ten steps forward, an explosion rang through the court yard, and the ground shook, with the resulting cloud being fully visible from where she and Verda stood.

"I'd hurry if I were you, that didn't sound too good." Zaruba said, before Kali began running, with Verda right behind her.

When they got to the scene where the explosion happened, all they found was a couple of girls, one dressed in a red and black Gothic Lolita style of clothing with black hair, grating into red at the bangs, and the other dressed in a pristine white dress, with silvery white hair.

"You complete dolt. This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about." The silver haired young woman said. "What are you even doing here? You look a little young to be attending Beacon Academy. This isn't gonna be your normal basic training you know, we're here to fight actual monsters."

"Like the Schnee Dust Company, and their slavery on Faunus." Kali said crossing her arms.

The two young women turned to Kali and Verda, looking at her with one being in shock, the other being disturbed by the accusation.

"You're Weiss Schnee, Heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, the largest energy propellant in the world, who over the last couple decades or so, has gone through illegal business deals, and shady partners, forcing Faunus into slave labor." Kali said.

"That is not true." Weiss stated.

Kali rolled her eyes, before turning around, and showing the back of her neck, revealing and SDC brand scar, clear as day for them to see.

"Considering I'm an escaped slave, I'd say I beg to differ." Kali stated, turning back to them.

Weiss was flabbergasted at seeing how she was proven wrong, and without defending herself, she turned away, marching off without saying another word.

"I didn't know you were enslaved by the SDC." Verda said.

"I wasn't. It's a fake tattoo. I caught wind that a Schnee was gonna be here, and had the fake tattoo put on the back of my neck to mess with her." Kali smiled. "But I've seen Faunus who were enslaved by the SDC, treated like animals, the children trained into their 'destined roles', with the boys being trained to be free manual labor, and the girls being trained to be 'stress relief' for the men when they're old enough, while all their parents toil away in the mines, losing hope that they'd never see their children again."

"That's just not right." Verda sighed. "Something should be done about that."

"Who do you think set all those slaves free, and left Jacques without leverage for him to force them into slave labor?" Kali smiled. "In total, I cost that man about 85 Billion Lien in property damage, and cost him one of his mines, when I set it to blow."

"You are devious." Verda said.

"Um, excuse me…"

Kali and Verda looked to the Gothic Lolita girl in black and red, and noticed she was looking at them.

"What's up?" Kali asked.

"I just wanted to say thanks for helping me out there, and standing up to her. My name's Ruby Rose."

"Kali Ragnvald." Kali smiled.

"Verda Evans." Verda said, before raising his hand, and catching a vial of Burn Dust.

"The Heiress dropped that during the explosion." A black haired girl with a book, said before walking off.

"Looks like there's a crack on it." Verda said.

"Was Schnee shaking this in front of you earlier?"

"She was actually, and not long after, I sneezed." Ruby said.

"So she's the one who caused the explosion." Verda said.

"I'll be taking that." Kali stated taking the jar. "Verda, why don't you go see if anyone else got caught in the explosion?"

"Right away." Verda saluted, before heading off.

"But, no one else was near us when I sneezed." Ruby said.

"I know, it was just an excuse to get rid of him." Kali smiled, her eyes kept on Verda, before she smiled, when she saw him bump into a blonde haired knight looking young man. "Why don't we head to the auditorium? I'll keep you company."

"Sounds good." Ruby smiled, before they walked off.

Later, after weaving their way through multiple crowds of people, Kali and Ruby found themselves in the auditorium, where most of the students who came for initiations, were gathered.

"So what brings someone your age here?" Kali asked.

"I caught the eye of Professor Ozpin, when I stopped an armed robbery from being completed, and he offered me a scholarship here." Ruby explained.

"No kidding. I was offered a scholarship as well." Kali smiled. "I was mainly doing freelance work for a living, and the last town I was in, a dusty old man in a red cape, smelling of hard liquor came, and told me I'd caught Ozpin's eye, and was offered a scholarship to Beacon."

"Wow that's so cool. What kind of weapon do you have?" Ruby questioned.

"Well, I do have this sword." Kali said, holding up Garoken in its scabbard. "Then I also have León and Raikou. They're chained sickles that come out of my vambraces, forged them myself. I named them after a couple of my ancestors." She smiled, holding up her arms.

"That's sweet, honoring their memories and stuff like that?" Ruby asked.

"You could say that. To be honest though, they were alive, probably centuries ago. But they were two of the most remembered warriors of my family lineage. So I took their names for my weapons, and set out to make a name for myself, away from my deadbeat of a father."

"Not all that supportive?" Ruby asked.

"Not all that loyal to his family, actually." Kali sighed.

"Ah… bit of a player huh?"

"Where did you…"

"I have an older sister who likes to think she hides her magazines well from me, but I always find them." Ruby smiled.

"You're a sneaky one." Kali smirked.

"Ruby."

Kali and Ruby looked to see a young woman with long blonde hair, waving at Ruby, showing she saved her a spot.

"Oh there's my sister." Ruby said, grabbing Kali's wrist. "Come on, I want you to meet her. I think you'd like her."

"Hey sis, how's your first day going so far?" Yang asked, before spotting Kali.

"You mean since you ran off to find Professor Ozpin, and I exploded?" Ruby asked, before Yang could question who was behind her sister.

"Yikes, melt down already?" Yang asked.

"No, I literally exploded. I tripped over some crabby girl's luggage, and she shook a bottle of Dust at me, I sneezed, there was fire, maybe some ice, and electricity. Then she yelled at me again, then Kali stepped in, and I just really wanted it all to end." Ruby raddled off, not even aware that Weiss was standing right behind Kali.

"You." Weiss shouted, alerting them of her presence, causing Ruby to jump into Kali's arms.

"Oh it's happening again." Ruby whined.

"Did you have to jump into my arms?" Kali questioned with a deadpan expression.

"You're lucky we weren't blown off the side of the cliff." Weiss exclaimed firmly.

"Oh my god you really did explode." Yang said in shock.

"I said I was sorry." Ruby exclaimed as Kali put her down.

"As for you." Weiss said, turning to Kali. Kali just looked to Weiss with a raised brow, before she bowed to her, and held out a stack of Lien. "I know this can't make up for all the pain my father and his methods have put you through. I hope we can start over, and form a bond of friendship. Please accept this Lien as an apology."

"Fine." Kali sighed, taking the Lien. "I suppose we can start with this. But, do anything to tick me off, because I'm a Faunus, then we're gonna have problems."

"Right. I'll keep that in mind." Weiss said, trying to hide her disdain. 'I can't believe I had to bow down and show respect to a Faunus. It's a price I must pay, if I wanna prove myself, a better CEO than my father.'

Before anything else could be said, a soft microphone sound echoed through the auditorium, and a man wearing small rounded glasses, wearing green and black clothing, with silver hair, stepped up, to address the gathered students.

"Ahem… I'll make this brief." Ozpin stated. "You have traveled here today in search of knowledge. To hone your craft, and acquire new skills; and when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school, will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you, to take the first step."

Ozpin left, leaving a platinum blonde haired woman to take control and give directions.

"You will gather in the ballroom tonight; tomorrow, you're initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed."

"He seemed kind of, off." Yang explained.

"Almost like he wasn't even there." Ruby added.

"Because he wasn't." Kali said. "The only scent I could smell coming from the stage, was the Blonde Professors."

"So then… Professor Ozpin…"

"That was most likely a prerecorded hologram with the audio recording in perfect sync of the visual recording." Kali said, as Weiss walked away.

"Guess that explains it. He didn't put any soul into the recording." Yang said. "Anyway, who are you?"

"Name's Kali Ragnvald. Nice to meet you." Kali smiled.

"Nice to meet you. Thanks for helping my sister out earlier." Yang said.

"It's not problem." Kali shrugged, as she began walking off.

"Where are you going Kali?" Ruby asked.

"Library. I heard Beacon has the largest selection on mythological creatures than any other library in Remnant." Kali said. "If you wanna chat more, you'll know where to find me."

~Vale Sunset~

The streets of Vale were hustling and bustling, with the clatter of people going about their daily lives. But in a dark alleyway, there sat a lone figure, curled up, lying on the ground and beaten badly for no other reason, than for being a Faunus, with his attackers surrounding him.

"Next time you wanna come into our turf ya filthy animal, remember your place, out on the streets where you beasts belong." The man said. "An' if you're part of the White Fang, let them know I'm not scared. I could take out a whole army of you animals without breaking a sweat."

The Faunus that lay on the ground, a fox Faunus, lay curled up, crying, wanting to know why he had to have been born the way he was.

'Why, why was I born a Faunus? Damn it. I wish I was stronger. I wish I could beat these bastards to a bloody pulp.' He thought as he silently cried, not even flinching as he was stomped on again by the men beating on him.

"You wish for great power?" A voice in his head questioned. "You wish to take revenge on those who've wronged you."

"Yes, I want to kill them. Those damned humans, always picking on me, beating on me, just because of who I am, because of what I am."

"Then embrace the darkness within your heart. Embrace the rage you feel, and become one with it."

"Come on, let's leave this trash to rot with the rest of the filth."

"Hold it, you bastards." The fox Faunus said, picking himself up.

"Eh? Now I know an animal like you, did not just talk like that to a member of your superior species." The man said, turning back to look at him.

"I don't give a damn if you think that way about yourself." The Faunus growled. "But I think you owe me an apology."

"What? Me, apologize to a lowly animal? Why the fuck would I do something as stupid as that?"

"So that's a no then? Pity, it would have been the only way for you to have saved your own life." The Faunus growled, a dark aura forming around his body. "Oh well, I guess all I have to do, is eat you all, body and soul, as compensation."

The Faunus rushed towards the men surrounding him, his mouth salivating in hunger, as his eyes became a burning red.

~Beacon Library~

"Hmhmm… looks like the rumors were true. Beacon does have more books on mythology than anywhere else, in its library." Kali said.

"Researching ways for you to be able to dawn the armor?" Zaruba questioned. "You do know, you'll only be able to dawn it, if the armor has actually chosen you."

"I'm aware Zaruba, but that's not why I'm doing all this research." Kali said. "I'm looking into any historical sightings of Horrors."

"Though rare in this world, their numbers are steadily increasing, thanks to the stress and anxiety caused by the constantly attacking Grimm." Zaruba stated. "Horrors are well versed in the art of manipulation, and getting what they want. So long as they know their targets weakness, they can exploit it."

"But there have been times when a human can resist the temptations of a Horror." Kali said, before she went silent in thought.

"Kali, are you all right?" Zaruba asked.

"Yeah, I was just thinking, maybe Verda's right. Maybe I won't be able to take on the Golden Armor." Kali said.

"Kali listen to me. I am on your finger, and I am talking to you. Not just anyone who puts me on their hand, is able to communicate with me. It takes one from the bloodline of Garo, who has to potential to dawn the armor, to give me my ability to speak, after putting me on. I know that no woman has ever dawned the Golden Armor, but perhaps you will be the first." Zaruba said.

"What's got you agreeing with me all of a sudden?" Kali smiled.

"I'm not sure, call it a hunch. But whatever you do, don't call it Stockholm Syndrome. I much prefer you to Sword and his lecherous ways." Zaruba said.

"You're telling me." Kali chuckled. "I don't leave the lingering scent of cheap perfume on the seat of Gōten."

"That is a perk yes, but you're more honest about your journeys. Sword would hope to go and pick up busty ladies from the towns he rescued. You're just into hot springs." Zaruba said.

"Let me ask you Zaruba, if my father were to come and take you back, would you agree to go back with him?" Kali asked.

"Hmm… that's a bit of a tricky one. But ultimately, no. As I said, I much prefer your company to his because you're more civilized than him." Zaruba said.

"Glad to hear it pal." Kali smiled.

~Ballroom Later~

"It's like a big sleepover." Yang said, flopping down on her sleeping bag.

"I doubt dad would approve of all the boys though." Ruby said, writing a letter on her sleeping bag.

"I know I do." Yang said as she looked over at the boys side, before cringing when she saw a blonde walking in a Pumpkin Pete's Onesie. "So, what ya writing?"

"A letter to the gang back home. I promised to write, and tell them all about Beacon." Ruby said.

"Aw, that's cute. You're feeling home sick." Yang smiled, before receiving a pillow to the face.

"Shut up. I didn't get to bring any of my friends to Beacon. This is all new to me, and I don't know anyone here besides you." Ruby said.

"What about Kali? She's a friend." Yang said.

"I'm pretty sure Weiss counts as a negative friend. Back to zero." Ruby said.

"There's no such thing as a negative friend, you just made one friend, and one enemy." Yang said.

Meanwhile, over in the corner, the black haired girl from before, with a bow in her hair, sat in a chair reading her book, while trying to ignore all that was going on around her.

"Interesting read?" The black haired young woman looked up to see Kali, in her pajamas, standing in front of her, holding her own book. "Mind if I share the light?"

"Be my guest." She said. "An' yes, it is an interesting read."

"Man with two souls. I've read it, not my style, but we all go for what we like." Kali smiled, sitting down on the ground beside Blake's chair. "Name's Kali. Kali Ragnvald."

"Funny, that's the same first name as my mother. My name's Blake. What are you reading?"

"Mythology and Lore." Kali smiled. "I'm a bit of a fan girl when it comes to this kind of stuff."

"Well, don't let me stop you." Blake said.

"So, I take it things didn't go so well with the White Fang?" Kali questioned. Blake froze in hearing Kali say that, before giving the girl a side glance. "Don't look so surprised. We've met before. So a bow wouldn't hide you from my sights and recognizing you. Not to mention your scent was one I could never forget."

Blake turned to look at Kali fully, before realization hit her.

"You're the one who put a stop to the train heist that had been my final mission." Blake said.

"Bingo, and I'm also the Faunus Adam tried to forcefully recruit, with violence." Kali smiled.

"Adam never told me how he failed in that mission." Blake stated.

"I told him I'd join if he could beat me in a sword fight." Kali smiled. "Obviously you can see how well that turned out."

"He also came back to camp with several new scars on his body." Blake said.

"Not my doing, I just shattered in aura and knocked him out in one swing." Kali said. "He must have ran into a pack of Beowolves on the way back."

"So… can I trust you not to tell anyone about my, secret?" Blake asked.

"Sure, you don't gotta worry. My lips are sealed. I can understand why you're wanting to keep being a Faunus, a secret. You wanna do good, without people judging what you are." Kali smiled. "I think that's very admirable."

"Kali, you said your name was Ragnvald." Blake said.

"Yeah, and?"

"Well, it's just… my mother once mentioned meeting someone with that name many years ago, when she was still an active Huntress. She told me about how she saved his life, and how he was a human, who could dawn…"

"I've no relation to such a man." Kali said, interrupting Blake, closing her book. "It's getting late. I'm gonna hit the sack."

"Alright, goodnight." Blake said, as Kali went to where her sleeping bag was, which surprisingly, was on the other side of the room, leaning against the wall.

~Midnight~

All was quiet in the ballroom as it seemed all residents staying there had fallen asleep.

"Kali, are you still awake?" Zaruba questioned.

"I am." Kali stated, opening her eyes. "You sensed it too huh?"

"I did. There's a Horror near Beacon Academy." Zaruba said.

"Can you tell where?" Kali questioned.

"The Emerald Forest." Zaruba stated.

"That's where tomorrow's initiation exams are taking place." Kali said.

"It appears though, we're not the only one to have sensed the Horror." Zaruba said.

"You're right. Verda seems to already be on the job." Kali said, noticing Verda's sleeping bag was empty. "I get the feeling we should probably stay out of this one."

"Agreed, I'd rather not hear him spout on with another misogynistic rambling about he's superior to you as a man, and that you should have stayed back here where you, belonged." Zaruba stated.

"You hate him that much huh?"

"I just dislike how he talks and disrespects you, you are my partner." Zaruba said.

"We'll just leave him to handle this one then. I'm sure he can manage anyways." Kali yawned, before going back to sleep. "We'll see how everything was handled in the morning."

~A/N~

I'm going off the Anime History, not the live action.

An' another thing, this goes out to EvaShinobiKaiserKnight:

This, is a fanfiction. It does NOT, have to follow rules of cannon, if I don't want it to.

So shut your mouth. Because I don't tell you how to write your fanfictions, which means you don't get to tell me how to write mine.

I can take feedback, like an actual review, such as criticism of my writing style or methods, but I am NEVER, gonna put up with someone, trying to tell me, how to write my own stories.

If you don't like it, tough, I don't care.

Here's his review for those of you who are curious about it, or you can go to the reviews, either way, it don't matter to me:

*ok um no Kali cant be Garo because Garo is one of many armors that only men may don. if she was using Yaiba I'd believe it. Sorry but I understand this is fanfiction but you also need to keep things as they are in cannon.*

Keeping things as they are in cannon, defeats the whole purpose of a FanFiction. Following the Cannon Story Line, that's fine, but keeping the same rules and bullshit as if nothing should change, is not FanFiction. You might as well be plagiarizing the story itself with some minor edits involving another franchise's characters.
