I had some time to sit down and write, and in my totally unbiased opinion I did alright. As for some of your reviews I saw that some of you don't like NaruHina which is fine. I wanted to do a take on it and its going to be a lot different than cannon. I have a few chapters already written down and will publish them soon.

Someone asked if I can have Naruto meet Mei, which I don't know at this point, I have an understanding of what i want to do but the details I don't really know. I do plan on him helping the resistance in my other story (Tales of the wandering sage). I've also thought of writing a new story where Hiruzen was late getting to Minato and kushina. Where baby Naruto is found by a mist spy and he eventually ends up in the resistance, defeating Yagura and other things. If you like that concept say so, I haven't got around to writing it but I plan to sometime.

If you have a suggestion for a better name please speak up, my other option was "The Scorched Fox" which sounds pretty cool but for this story I didn't want Naruto to befriend Kurama too early and the name would kind of defeat the purpose. If you like that name I will change it but if you have a better one speak up.

Anyways here is chapter 2.

Chapter 2: Truth

A few hours later

The anesthesia the cat ANBU seemed to be wearing off. As he began to open his eyes he saw that the cat ANBU was leaving the room. The Dog ANBU however was just standing in the corner of the room staring at him, seeming to be lost in thought.

The Dog ANBU decided to talk "how are you feeling?" As Naruto began began to remember what happened the same orange firey tears began to leak from his eyes. As he took bigger breath he felt a hand on his shoulder . He looked up to see the dog faced ANBU taking off his mask revealing another mask. However this mask only covered the bottom of his face. The top of his face had his eyes closer and you could just make out a smile on his mask covered lips.

This seemed to calm him down a little and his breathing began to slow down to normal.

"I… I killed them. I really am a monster. I'm…" Naruto began muttering But was interrupted "No kid, those men were trying to hurt you or worse. You only did that to protect yourself."

"But I…" Naruto said

"I had a friend who said that those who break the rules are scum, but those who abandon their comrades are worse than scum. You're an academy student right?" The masked man said and Naruto just nodded ."Then those men we're worse than trash." As he said that he gave an eye smile.

They say there in silence until Naruto spoke

"Um… mister"

"You can call me Kakashi." As he gave another eye smile to ease to tension.

"Okay… Kakashi. How can I?" As he held up his arm and in his palm a small orb of fire that resembled a miniature sun formed. The Orb then began encircling Naruto's hand leaving behind a trail of fire.

"Ah yes , we'll I think the Hokage will tell you far better than I can." And as if on cue the Hokage began to enter the room with a box.

"Jiji? I…" but the Hokage just put his hand up.

" I think it's about time I told you the truth. What do you know about the Nine-tails attack 9 years ago." Hiruzen asked.

"That Fourth Hokage sacrificed himself to kill it " Naruto responded

The Third began to think, he knew that there was no turning back after this. "Yes he did sacrifice himself but he couldn't kill the kyuubi. The kyuubi is made of pure chakra and if he killed it it would only return later. To truly stop the Nine-Tails he needed to seal away into a newborn baby?"

"Me?" Naruto asked but it was more of a statement.

"Yes he sealed the Nine-Tails inside of you"

"B-But why? Why me?" Naruto said

"Because he believed in you. He believed that you could protect this village and should be seen as a hero." Hiruzen said

"The Fourth believed in me?" Naruto said in disbelief. He was unsure of how to feel, happy that his hero believed in him. Mad that he sealed the kyuubi in him or filled with regret for killing.

"And the fire?" Naruto asked summoning another fireball in his hands

" That is a side effect of being a jinchuriki as it is called of the kyuubi. It's called scorch release and it is a powerful kekkei genkai." The third said impressed that he could summon the fire after just unlocking it.

As he moved closer to the bed Naruto dispersed the small marble sized fireball.

"Is that why they all hate me?" Naruto said putting his head down.

"People fear what they don't understand, once I saw they wouldn't honor the Fourth's final request I made a law. The law states that anyone other than you cannot talk about the kyuubi or about you being it's jinchuriki to people who already don't know. I tried to make it so you would be accepted by people your age but sadly that was not the case" he said as he put his head down in shame.

"I know it is late…" as he put the box on the bed "but happy birthday "

Naruto then looked at the Hokage and seeing him give a nod of approval he opened the box. One the top of the box was a picture frame. This specific picture frame was a picture of a beautiful woman with long red hair, a round face and blue eyes . She also had a very mischievous grin all over her face. Naruto seeing this woman he could help but feel a connection between them.

"W-Who was she?" Naruto asked

"She was your mother." The third stated

"M-My Mother?"

"Her name was Kushina Uzumaki, she was also the last holder of the nine-tails."

"What was she like? "

"She was a loving and caring woman until you got her mad " Hiruzen said with a laugh. " I know she didn't want this and if she were alive she would've loved you with all her heart."

This caused Naruto to smile as he stared at the photo.

"Jiji? Who was my father?" Naruto asked hoping he would finally tell him something other than "that he was a great ninja"

Hiruzen then gave a sad look knowing he might break his heart. "Sadly I can't tell you that. Please know that I have my reasons and as much as I want to tell you I can't. But know I will tell you."

Naruto nodded

"Do you hate me for not telling you this?" Hiruzen asked sad on what he was keeping from Naruto.

"No, I don't hate you , I know you have your reasons. But I will hold you to telling me them." He said with a serious tone

The three of them sat in a comfortable silence until Naruto began to look into the box again.

He pulled out a few gray jackets with orange zippers and orange and red flames at the bottom. Along with some pairs of blue pants. Naruto gave the third a questioning look before speaking "A little ironic considering I was just in a fire."

Hiruzen and Kakashi both gave a laugh. "That may be true, but I had these specially made from a fireproof material. Sadly you're apartment burned down along with all of your items." The old man said.

"But where am I going to live? " Naruto asked with the fear of living on the streets again

Kakashi then spoke up "I think I can help with that, your mother was like a mother to me and so I would like for you to live with me. That is if you want to?"

Naruto thought about it but then just nodded. Looking at Hiruzen who just gave a smile before nodding.

Turning back to the box he pulled out the final item or should I say items.

"These are…" Naruto said in awe "yes, the Fourth Hokage's kunai" Hiruzen finished.

In Naruto's hand there were two three pronged kunai. (the seals were removed)

" Your mother used to channel her scorch release into her sword. Most of the fourth's kunai were destroyed but I kept some of them. I think the fourth would want for you to have these"

As Naruto began to channel chakra into the blade it began to turn white with the heat and had a red aura of flames around it.

"These kunai are made of a special metal that allows them to channel chakra better than normal weapons." Hiruzen said

Tears began to fill Naruto's eyes and he began to hug Hiruzen. "Thanks Jiji." Naruto said muffled by his face being in the Hokage's robes.

As he pulled back from the hug he saw that the orange tears had left a few burns on the Hokage's clothes.

"Sorry Jiji" Naruto said before rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.

"It's quite alright" he said with a laugh

"So what do you saw we sign the papers and get out of here?" Kakashi said as he unwrapped the bandages on Naruto's arms revealing his skin to be unburned.

"Okay" Naruto said

The two the began to help Naruto out of bed.

Meanwhile at the academy

The bell rang for the final time today. They had just been dismissed from class.

As a shy pale-eyed girl with blue hair began walking towards the instructor.

The instructor, noticing the one girl not leaving, asked what the girl wanted.

"I-I w-was w-wondering, w-what h-happened to N-Naruto he h-hasn't been h-here all w-week?" She managed to stutter out.

"Oh … I heard he was in a fire." The instructor said without any concern in his voice for his student.

"A Fire!" The girl shouted, concerned for her longtime crush.

"I heard he survived." He said in a disappointed look on his face.

The girl gave a sigh of relief and quickly left.

OOO

An hour later

All the papers have been signed and they arrived at Kakashi's house. It was a small one story house but for now this was his home.

Kakashi opened the door he said. "I'm Home!"

Naruto look at him curiously. But Kakashi just gave an eye smile and said "sorry force of habit"

As Kakashi gave a tour of the small house he then opened another door. "This will be your room"

Naruto looked inside to see a normal sized room with sky blue walls and a bed with a nightstand next to it.

" I know it's not much, but maybe we can fill it with some stuff later." Kakashi then put the box with the Hokage's gifts on his bed.

"Yeah maybe" Naruto responded " I think I'm going to take a walk for a bit and think" but as Naruto was about to leave he felt a hand on his shoulder. As Naruto looked up he saw kakashi with another eye smile he said.

"If you ever need to talk, just know I'm here." Naruto nodded and he left.

OOO

Naruto walked aimlessly around the streets, not noticing the glares of hate people seemed to be giving him. He had decided to go into the woods into a part of the woods he normally would train to become a ninja in.

He however didn't notice a blue haired girl spot him walking down the road. "Is that Naruto-kun?" She had barely recognized him in his new outfit but once she saw his hair it was a dead giveaway.

This girl decided to follow him him. Into the woods

She had been watching Naruto but something he did shocked him. Naruto held out his hand and a marble sized fireball formed, the fireball began encircling Naruto's hand.

"Is that Naruto-kun?" She asked herself.

She decided to get a closer look and as she did she was shocked to say the least. The boy that had saved her from the bullies all those years ago. The boy who she admired for being so confident and who alyways pulled pranks was crying. She could see the pain in his eyes as tears fell down his face. The tears had also been different they were glowing orange that resembled a liquid fire.

In her shock she fell down and caught the attention of a certain blond . He quickly wiped away the tears with his sleeves and stopped to get a better look at the person in front of him.

He had seen this girl before in the academy. To him she had always seemed weird. She had always turned red if he got too close and she wouldn't make eye contact with him.

"Hinata?" He asked cocking his head to the side. "What are you doing here?"

"I-I h-heard y-you we're I-in a f-fire, I-I w-was w-worried." Hinata said with a blush and poking her fingers together.

"W-Worried?" Naruto said in surprise, nobody had been worked for him apart from his Jiji and a few other, none of them being in his class.

The two just stood in a awkward silence until Hinata mustered the courage to speak.

"N-Naruto a-are y-you okay?" Hinata muttered out

"What are you talking about I'm fine?" Naruto said trying not to talk about it.

Hinata looked into his eyes and she could tell he wasn't fine. "N-No y-your n-not"

Not wanting to look the girl in her eyes he turned his head." I um… don't want to talk about it."

Hinata put her fingers together and asked "is it a-about the k-kyuubi." She had know for some time, the elders of her clan told her to get her to stay away from him.

Naruto was surprised that she knew with the third's law in place and even talking to him about it was risking her life. "I'm…" as Naruto took a deep breath "I'm scared." He was, the thought of accidentally burning someone else again. That he would be become the demon everyone thought he was. And that the Fourth was wrong from choosing him.

"S-Scared?" Hinata was surprised by this, she had never seen him sad or scared before. She wanted to faint from talking to her crush for this long but she could see that he was in pain right now. She did the only thing she could think of. Whenever she was scared or sad her mother would do the same for her.

Hinata walked up to Naruto and wrapped her arms around him in a hug.

Naruto was surprised for multiple reasons. One this was the overly shy girl who wouldn't talk to him giving him a hug. That she knew about the kyuubi and seemingly didn't care. And that the hug seemed to make him feel a lot better.

Hinata thought he would be mad and scold her, but to her surprise he wrapped his arms around him too. "Naruto-kun is hugging me"

They stood like that for what felt like eternity.

OOO

Meanwhile

The old Hokage was looking through his crystal ball with a certain scarecrow. Hiruzen had a smile on his face seeing the sight or his grandson figure finding someone who would accept him.

"They seem to be getting along." Kakashi said

Hiruzen chuckled. "It will be good for the boy, he found someone his age who would accept him even with the kyuubi."

"Yeah… should I message Jiraiya and tell him we found some new inspiration for a new book" Kakashi retorted.

Hiruzen pondered the question, on the one hand he would get a new book in his favorite series but on the other. " if he found out about it he would surely burn our books to ash."

Kakashi just shivered at the thought of his "precious" being used as kindling.

Originally I didn't Plan for Kakashi to take Naruto in but I realized that his entire place had burned down and he had nowhere else to go. I also thought that instead of Hiruzen and Kakashi just ignoring the literal child of the Fourth Hokage, they didn't have to be a garbage human being and would give Naruto a little kindness. I don't hate the characters and am assuming that Kishimoto wanted Naruto to go from nothing to a literal GOD and that is why but i mean still. Anyways I've ranted enough so if you like this or have a suggestion leave a review.
