Chapter 5: Chunin Exams part 1

Naruto and Zabuza lead there teams towards the building where the exams will be taking place.

Oichi turns to Naruto, "Xehanort-sensei, you were here for the last Chunin Exams."

"What should we expect?"

Naruto hums, "The last time I was here, there were three rounds of the exam."

"The first was a written exam." "The goal was to cheat, while not letting yourself get caught."

Oichi and Hanzo both turn to Musashi, who frowns, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Karin and Jugo do the same with Suigetsu, who gains a tick mark, "I'll gouge your eyes out!"

Naruto chuckles, "The second is a survival test."

"You will be sent into the Forest of Death, where you will have five days to complete the test." "Not only will you have to survive, but you will be given a specific scroll." "You will need to acquire the corresponding scroll that goes along with it, by stealing it from another team."

Suigetsu grins, "Sounds like fun."

Naruto hums, "Then you'll like the third test."

"A fighting tournament."

Everyone grins in excitement.

Minato hums as he looks over the papers on his desk. Kushina, Jiraiya, Tsunade, Hiruzen and the Jonin sensei's are standing in front of and around his desk.

The current Jonin sense's in genin teams are Kakashi, Ebisu and Yugao Uzuki.

"Okay, so the Exams are here once again and we've more competition this time."

"We've got one team from Suna, two teams from Kiri, two teams from Kumo, one team from Iwa and one team from Taki."

He turns to Kushina, "Speaking of which, you said you met one of Kiri's senseis?"

Kushina nods, "Xehanort, he was at the ramen stand with Karin."

"As it turns out, his mother was an Uzumaki."

Tsunade's eyes widen, "Are you sure?"

Kushina nods, "She escape from Uzu during the attack."

"She made her way outside the Elemental Nations, where she met his father and settled down."

Kurenai frowns, "Did he tell you why he didn't consider himself to be a part of his mother's clan?"

Kushina gains a sad look, "His mother died giving birth to him."

"So he was raised in his father's ways."

Minato nods, "I see, that is unfortunate."

"At any rate, we need to head to the exam site."

They all head over to the building where the exam is going to take place.

The Jonin walk into their assigned room, where they spot the Jonin from the other villages.

"Well, well, if it isn't Kakashi."

Kakashi's eye widens, "Zabuza."

Zabuza smirks as he and Naruto walk over to him.

"Hey there."

Kakashi gulps, "So you really are alive."

Zabuza chuckles, "Did you really think I'd die so easily?"

Kakashi shakes his head, "I buried you and Haku."

"You're graves are back in Wave."

Zabuza hums, "Haku and I knew that Gato was going to betray us, so we created a pair of blood clones and escaped during all of the confusion."

Kakashi nods, "I see."

"So you went back to Kiri?"

Zabuza nods, "I helped Mei defeat Yagura and become the new Mizukage."

Kakashi hums, "What about Haku?"

Zabuza laughs, "She's back at the village."

"She's a Chunin, so she couldn't come."

Kakashi looks past at Naruto, who is gazing around the room.

'I know these people.'

He turns to the Jonin from Iwa, 'Kitsuchi, son of the third Tsuchikage.'

He turns to the Jonin from Kumo, 'Yugito Nii, the Jinchuriki of the Two-Tails.'

'And Killer Bee, brother of the Fourth Raikage and the Jinchuriki of the Eight-Tails.'

He turns to the Jonin from Suna, 'Kankuro.'

He turns to the Jonin from Taki, 'Hoki, he was here the last time.'

'He must have become a Jonin since then.'

His thoughts are interrupted by Kakashi walking towards him, "Hello there, Kakashi Hatake."

Naruto shakes his hand, "Xehanort."

The Leaf Jonin's eyes widen, 'This is him?'

"So, how are you enjoying your team?"

Naruto shrugs, "I can't really complain."

He smirks, "Though there are some days I want to strangle them."

All the Jonin laugh, "I hear that."

Suddenly, Genan Shiaranui walks into the room, "Alright, the first phase is about to begin."

The sensei's all gather around a large screen that shows the room where the written exam is taking place.

The two Kiri teams walk into the room, and immediately take notice of the other Genin.

"Hey, I know you."

Karin smiles at the triplets, "It's nice to see you again."

The Kumo team frowns at the four Uzumakis, while the Iwa team frowns at the triplets for being Minato's kids. Naruto immediately takes notice of this and frowns.

Karin continues her conversation with the triplets, when their conversation is interrupted by the arrival of Ibiki.

"Alright you little shits, sit your asses down and shut up."

Naruto deadpans, "He hasn't changed."

Yugao giggles, "Same old Ibiki."

Ibki clears his throat, "My name is Ibiki Morino and I will be the proctor for the first phase of the Chunin Exams."

He gestures to some Chunin, "I will be administering a written test that you will take."

"If I catch you cheating, you will be given a strike." "If you get five strikes, you will fail." "If one of you fails, then your whole team will fail."

All the Genin take their seats and look over the test paper.

Their eyes all widen at the advanced questions, 'These aren't Chunin questions.'

Naruto turns to Genan, "Who are teams competing?"

Genan pulls out a clipboard, "Let's see."

"For the Konoha teams, we have the team of Menma Uzumaki-Namikaze, Mito Uzumaki-Namikaze and Natsumi Uzumaki-Namikaze." "Kakashi is their sensei."

He points to Ebisu, "Ebisu is the sensei of Konohamaru Sarutobi, Udon and Moegi."

He points to Yugao, "Yugao's team is made up of Hanabi Hyuga, Yakumo Kurama and Mai Shiranui."

He points to Kitsuchi, "For the Iwa team; we have Kurotsuchi, Akatsuchi and Toph Fei Bong."

He points to Yugito Nii, "For the Kumo teams, we have the team of Darui, C and Yasuke, led by Killer Bee."

"Yugito's team is made up of Galford D Weller, Sarutobi Sasuke and Taki ."

He points to Hoki, "The Taki team is made up of Fu, Kegon and Yōrō."

He points to Kankuro, "For the Suna team; we have Matsuri, Mikoshi and Yukata."

"And finally, we of course have the two Kiri teams." "The team lead by Miyamoto Musashi, Oichi Nobunaga and Hanzo Hattori; led by Zabuza." "Last but not least, we have the team of Suigetsu Hozuki, Jugo and Karin Uzumaki; led by Xehanort."

Ibiki starts the test and all the Genin begin writing down their answers. A few of them end up getting at least one strike, but nobody gets five.

Kakashi hums, "They're doing good."

Kankuro deadpans, "They're doing better than we did."

Hoki deadpans and nods in agreement.

Ibiki grunts, "Alright brats, pencils down."

"It's time for the tenth question."

He smirks, "But this question is a little different."

"You have the option of whether you want to answer it or not."

Kurotsuchi raises an eyebrow, "Why would we not want to answer it?"

Ibiki gives them an evil grin, "Because if you answer the question and get it wrong, then you'll never be allowed to enter the Chunin Exams again."

The Genin's jaws drop to the table, "What!?"

The Jonin all burst out laughing at their student's expressions.

The Genin all go quiet, until Menma slams the table, "Bring it on Scarface!"

"My big brother didn't take any of your crap and neither will I!"

Kakashi eye smiles, "He's such a good brother."

Naruto merely stays silent as he watches the scene.

One by one, the rest of the Genin all agree and say that they're going to answer the question.

Ibiki smirks, "In that case…you all pass."

They're eyes all bug out, "Huh!?"

Ibiki gives them his usual speech, while Naruto discreetly smiles in nostalgia.

Suddenly, Anko bursts into the room, "The strong and sexy Anko Mitarashi has arrived."

Naruto deadpans, "She hasn't changed."

Yugao smiles, "That's Anko for you."

Anko gives the Genin a bloodthirsty grin, "Alright brats, meet me outside the Forest of Death."

"You're asses are mine now."

The group all sweat in fear, before they rush out of the room.

Ebisu sighs, "Alright, the first phase is over."

"There's nothing more we can do for our students at this point."

The Genin all make their way to the Forest of Death, where Anko is waiting for them.

Anko grins, "Okay brats, this is the forest of death; my little home away from home."

Menma hums, "It doesn't seem that scary."

Anko throws a kunai at him, attempting to cut his cheek like she did Naruto's. Before the kunai reaches him, it is intercepted by Naruto, who catches it in his hand.

He examines the kunai, "You should be careful, this could hurt somebody."

Anko pouts, "Oh come on, it was perfectly safe."

Naruto grunts, "I'm sure it was."

He infuses the kunai with some of his darkness. Suddenly, everyone's eyes widen as the kunai slowly disintegrates in his hand.

He turns to her, "I believe that you should continue."

Anko clears her throat, "Alright brats, here are the rules."

"You will have five days to survive the forest."

She gives them an evil grin, "But you don't need to worry, you won't be alone."

"There are plenty of giant animals and monsters just ready to eat you for lunch."

The Genin all pale, while Anko continues to cackle evilly.

She pulls out a pair of scrolls, "There are the Earth and Heaven scrolls."

"You will start out with one and must retrieve another one from another team." "Once you have the scrolls, you are to make your way to the tower at the far end of the forest."

She glares at them, "There is one rule however."

"Under no circumstances are you to open the scrolls before you arrive at the tower."

Suigetsu, Karin and Jugo latch onto Naruto, "Sensei do something."

Naruto deadpans at them, "It's too late now, you chose to go through with this."

Karin sweats, "But don't you have any advice for us?"

Naruto gives them an evil smirk while his eyes glow, "I'm afraid that there's nothing I can say that will prepare you for the horrors that await you."

Anko cackles as the Chunin with her start to drag the team towards the forest gate, "You're sensei can't save you now."

"Your asses belong to me."

As soon as all the teams step into the forest, they all start screaming. The screaming is mixed with loud roars and growling form an assortment of animals and monsters.

Naruto chuckles as he turns to walk back into the village.

Naruto makes his way through the village, when bumps into someone.

"Excuse me."

His eyes widen a little at the familiar head of pink hair in front of him.

He frowns, "Apologies, I wasn't watching my surroundings."

She smiles, "Don't worry, I was distracted."

"Sakura Haruno."

He hums, "Xehanort."

She blinks, "Ah, you're one of the sensei's from Kiri."

Naruto nods, "That's correct."

Sakura continues to make conversation with Naruto until she remembers that she has work at the hospital and leaves.

Naruto grits his teeth, "Damn her."

He takes a deep breath to calm himself, when somebody walks up to him, "Hello?"

He sighs and turns to them, only for his heart to stop, 'Hinata.'

She gives him a concerned look, "Are you alright, you look stressed?"

Naruto shakes his head, "I'm alright, I merely had an unpleasant conversation."

She nods in understanding, "Not surprising."

"Not many can stand to be around Sakura for a long period of time."

She smiles, "So, how are you enjoying Konoha so far?"

Naruto hums, "I've been here once before, but I didn't like it here."

She blinks, "Did something happen?"

He shrugs, "I saw somebody die for something they didn't deserve."

Hinata's eyes widen, before adopting a sad look, "You saw Naruto-kun's execution."

Naruto nods, "I had considered joining Konoha."

"But after witnessing that boy's death, I couldn't."

She nods, "I understand."

Naruto turns to her, "Do you know what the worst part of it was?"

"He was family."

Her eyes widen, "You're an Uzumaki?"

Naruto hums, "My mother was one."

She smiles, "I'm so happy that there was someone else that cared about him."

His eyes shine a little, "You truly saw him as a friend."

She nods, "He inspired me to be more than what my clan wanted for me."

She turns to him, "What about you, why did you become a Jonin sensei?"

Naruto doesn't say anything at first, "I suppose I wanted to find a purpose in my life."

"When I came to the Elemental Nations, I came to see my mother's clan." "I found nothing but a dead village and piles of bodies."

He looks up at the sky, "I wandered the Elemental Nations, lost and with no purpose."

"Then I met Mei and I was offered a purpose, a reason to keep fighting."

He turns to her, "And you, what path have you taken?"

Hinata hums, "After Naruto-kun's death, I had my fill of death."

"I swore to use my skills to save people instead." "I joined the medical corps and became a healer."

"Yo Hinata."

They turn to see Kiba walk up to them.

Kiba kisses Hinata on the cheek, "There you are."

She smiles, "Sorry, I was having a conversation."

She points to Naruto, "This is Xehanort, he's a Jonin sensei here for the Chunin Exams."

Kiba grins, "Nice to meet you."

Naruto nods, "Hello."

Kiba turns to Hinata, "We're gonna be late for the reunion."

Her eyes widen, "I almost forgot."

She bows her head, "I'm afraid I must go."

He nods, "It was nice speaking with you."

Hinata walks away with Kiba, while Naruto frowns, 'She's come along way.'

Zabuza suddenly pops up and claps him on the shoulder, "Found you."

"Come on, let's grab a drink."

Naruto rolls his eyes, "Fine."

Five days pass as Naruto awaits his team to return.

"Xehanort."

He looks over his shoulder to see Kushina walk up to him.

She smiles, "You waiting for your team?"

Naruto nods, "I have faith in them."

Kushina smiles, "I have faith in my children as well."

At that moment, both teams slump into the room, covered in scratches and dried blood.

The triplets all latch onto their mother, "Kaa-san, help us."

Kushina laughs, "Come along you three, Tsunade will fix you right up."

Naruto deadpans as he gazes down at his team, who are all lying on the ground.

Suigetsu groans, "I'm so sore."

Karin sniffs, "It hurts."

Jugo grunts, "I can't feel my legs."

Naruto rolls his eyes and lifts his hand, "Curaga."

The three Genin's bodies glow green as their wounds slowly heal.

"You'd better get rest while you can." "Because the last phase is the worst yet."

The three of them blink, "Oh damnit."
