P.O.V. Hermione

I thought about her words, wondering how I could do her homework. It wasn't the worst, and she never said I couldn't research famous quotes or ask my friends for help. So, that's what I did. "Harry, Ginny, do you have any ideas for a wise, inspirational quote? Lou gave me homework,"

"What about a wizarding one? I heard Dumbledore has tons of inspirational quotes?" Harry asked.

"Yeah, Ron told me about this 'The truth. It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with caution.'" Ginny replied.

"Nah, I was more thinking 'One can never have too many socks" Harry joked.

"That's one I haven't heard before," I laughed. And for a while we were three normal teens, not wizards, not demigods, but just some kids laughing. Then capture the flag started.

"Campers, we are having a small game of Capture the Flag. Team Captains are as follows: Annabeth Chase, Athena, red team, and Percy Jackson, Poseidon, blue team. There were too many arguments over this, so please, no complaints."

"But, Chiron, they always are the leaders. Percy doesn't even have any other Cabin members!" A Demeter camper protested, "Just because they're competitive, and they're dating..." she trailed off, muttering to herself.

"I did say no complaints, didn't I?"

Ginny and I were on Annabeth's team as she had come to Hermes cabin and bargained for chore time and shower privileges. Whereas Percy had gotten to Harry before she could, so, unfortunately, we were on different teams. "Hermione, I have a feeling something is going to happen, like something fortuitous."

I raised my eyebrow "Really? Fortuitous? That's the best synonym you could come up with?"

The red-head shrugged. "I've done research in a muggle thing called a dictionary. There were a few synonyms in there," I laughed; I forgot wizards don't even know what a dictionary is.

"What? Did I say something wrong?"

"No, Gin. It's fine."

We were chatting about our odds of winning when Chiron blew the horn.

"Hermione! What's our plan of action again?" Annabeth asked.

"To guard the flag, with wands and weapons, and don't be afraid to stun, disarm, or otherwise," I recited, "You got that, Gin?"

"Yeah, Stupefy, Expelliarmus."

"Good," Annabeth said to us, then to the other half of her 'army': "ATHENA, HERMES, DEMETER, APHRODITE, DIONYSUS, CHARGE!" I heard a few battle cries in the background.

About 10 minutes passed without anything going on when I heard: "They're coming! Defend the flag!" I was on guard, but I didn't expect to see footprints, as if someone invisible was sneaking up on us... Harry! "Stupefy!" I cried

"Protego!" Fuck. Where did Harry learn that? I kept hurling the stunning curse at that invisible spot where I knew Harry was until I heard a thump. Oh no! Had I hurt him? I went over and took his cloak off. Luckily, I felt a pulse. I sighed with relief and took him as a hostage.

After that, things were, once more, uneventful. Until I saw Annabeth holding the flag of the opposing team. "Red team win!" Chiron declared. We had won! I quickly went back to my hostage. "Rennerverate," I muttered. Harry's eyelids flickered open, and he smiled at me. I never thought my heart cod go that fast. But, of course, he only saw me as a friend. "Hey, 'Mine," He laughed, "So, we were allowed hostages?"

"I'm not sure, actually. By the way, where did you learn Protego? We haven't learnt that on yet,"

"I have my ways."

"Hey Hermione! Percy's looking for Harry. What did you do with him?" Annabeth called.

"Uhh, were we allowed to take hostages?" I asked. She laughed. "Free him. We have a celebratory feast with Hermes. I think they stole food."

"What? I'm jealous!" Harry cried.

"Be quiet, hostage." I teased. We left and I went to join the crowd.

I was laughing and joking, and recounting my story, when it happened. Really, at the time it seemed joyous, but now I just see it as the end of joy.

P.O.V. Ginny

Well, I wonder what would happen if I wasn't claimed. We'd I still have been the way I was. Hermione was explaining how she kept Harry as a hostage, and we were laughing, and it was great and then we saw an owl appear above Hermione's head. People stared at Hermione, but People also stared at me. I looked up, and saw a clover – Tyche's symbol. I saw Hermione, exchange money with some Hermes campers, and I felt happy. But then I realised – I was alone. Again. No longer did I have Hermione to protect me. But even still, that was nothing, nothing, compared to what a Demeter camper said. "Lucky we won before they got claimed, because otherwise we wouldn't have Gin on our team!" Now, I had used my magic to take out a lot of demigods, and I was proud, but that word. The one that was cursed. Lucky. "No, no, no. WHICH ONE OF YOU SAID THAT WORD IN FRONT OF MY PATIENT? I WILL CURSE YOU." Will. It was the last thing I remembered before blacking out, for, but I didn't know it, the remainder of school year.
