Bing Bong had been snoozing in the sun, when he heard the familiar voice of his new companion, who he learned his name was Hiccup during his frequent visits.

"Hey, Toothless!" Hiccup called, causing Bing Bong to snort silently, smiling in amusement at his nickname. He knew it was only a matter of time before the boy learned his real identity and that he wasn't really a dragon, but for the moment he played along, coming closer, wagging his tail, eyeing the delicious smelling basket.

"I got breakfast! I hope you're hungry!" Hiccup announced cheerfully, tipping it over. Bing Bong's stomach growled at the sight of the gourmet of fish before him, moving nearer to it, sniffing enthusiastically.

"There's salmon, nice Icelandic cod and a whole smoked eel," Hiccup informed. At the word eel, Bing Bong flinched, pulling back, as a memory hit him of his unfortunate experience with an eel. He got too curious about what it tasted like despite Ashia's warning, but ate it anyway, resulting in a horrible stomach ache for weeks, Ashia caring for his illness by sometimes curling up around his miserable sick form, and finding herbs for him.

Hiccup held up the eel, and Bing Bong reeled back in fear, screeching. "No! I get sick eating those!" He screamed in dragonese, hoping the boy got the message. Hiccup's eyes widened. "No? No? Okay, you don't like eels, I get it!" He shouted, throwing it away, wiping his hands on his shirt. "Yeah, don't really like eel much, either."

Bing Bong huffed, beginning to eat. You and me both, he thought, swallowing a fish whole then grabbing another. It was a dance of flavors as he enjoyed himself, unaware of Hiccup sneaking behind with the new tail fin.

"That's it, don't mind me I'll just stay back here, minding my own business," he mumbled, starting to attach the new tail.

Bing Bong felt something on his tail, looking up, the basket still on his head from going deeper in for more fish. He wiggled it, and it didn't feel so unbalanced anymore, feeling his face flood with possible realization. He raised his wings.

Hiccup adjusted the tail fin, studying it over. Not too bad from his eyes. Bing Bong meanwhile crouched, before suddenly jumping into the air, startling him all over.

Bing Bong flew, hoping to escape his cove imprisonment, joy rushing all over as he got closer to the edge, but then he began to fall, eyes widening in fear at seeing the hard rock getting closer and closer.

Hiccup, in desperation to save them both, pulled out the tail fin, and just like that, Bing Bong was once more back in the air. Shock radiated in his veins at feeling his tail fin working again, soaring through the blue sky above the cove.

He flew back over the pond, gliding now, smiling that he could fly again. But then…

"Yes! Yes! I did it!"

Ugh, what's he doing on my tail? Bing Bong thought in utter annoyance, rolling his eyes. Though he seemed lighthearted and friendly, this boy still wasn't Riley. Snorting, he flipped his tail, sending the boy flying into the water. Yeah, he was a dragon now, but he didn't want children hurt.

But then Bing Bong noted his mistake. As soon as he flipped him off, his tail was rendered useless, falling into the water with a splat.

He broke the surface, hearing the boy cheering a little ways before him, causing Bing Bong to question why he was excited. Climbing out of the water, he glanced behind at his tail. Something different was there. Jiggling it, it unveiled a paper tail attached to him.

So that means the false tail was planted there by Hiccup. To help him fly.

Guess we're stuck together then, he thought, watching the boy wave to him and leave, a rush of warmth going inside that Hiccup was willing to help him get out of here. Maybe eventually he can unveil his little secret to Hiccup when their trust towards one another gets better over time.
