June 28th 2020 edit: Most of Yang's dialogue has been completely changed as suggested by Dimas15 in an attempt to make it more in-character, and a few improvements, changes, and additions have been made to the chapter elsewhere.
Original author's note below:
This' something? You're damn right it is. This fic is inspired mainly by lakero45's "Grand Theft RWBY" and "Call of Duty: Blake Ops", so credit where credit's due. However, instead of delving into a single game, every two chapters will feature specific members of either teams RWBY or JNPR playing different games, just to spice things up a little.
As for the matter of suggestions: I'm not really taking them at the moment. My taste in games is vastly different from most people, and I'm heavily secluded in my comfort zone. But I will put up polls in my profile with the games I've proposed for the next chapters, so the audience has a semblance of control over what they're reading.

Story takes place after the Volume 1 finale, but before Volume 2's start.
It was a peaceful day at Beacon Academy... Well, as peaceful as it can be in a school populated by hormonal teenagers with superpowers, barely held together by a strict Deputy Headmistress that might as well be the living incarnation of a dominatrix while the old man who is supposed to really run the show is just sitting on his ass all day drinking cocoa (Seriously! Hot cocoa out of all things! Not even proper coffee!) and making chess metaphors-oh, did we mention the semester had just ended? Because it had. Just another mess to add to the pile of things Glynda Goodwitch had to worry about, because that's neither good or bad... But we're not here to talk about the faculty members and Glynda's woes with her duties. We're here to talk about Beacon's resident trouble-causing team: Team RWBY.
After the fiasco on the Vale Port and barely having gotten out of it unscathed, team RWBY was discussing just what to do during the short two-week break before the start of the new semester.
"Sooo~!" Team RWBY's resident blonde brawler; Yang, said in a sing-song way while leaning over the edge of her improvised bunk bed.
"So?" Raised an eyebrow the prissy heiress; Weiss, with a textbook and highlighter in hand.
"So? What are we doing for the break? Dad wants Ruby and I to come back home until school starts again, but if we can come up with something we can stick around Beacon"
"I will stay. It's not like I have anywhere else to go" Nonchalantly added the team's cat faunus and resident smut lover, Blake. Nose deep in her precious book: Ninjas of Love.
"I will go anywhere you guys go! We're a team, after all!" Chimed in the beloved team leader, Ruby, while doing routine maintenance on her prized weapon: Crescent Rose.
The heiress sighed before highlighting a paragraph of the book she was analyzing, and spoke.
"I will stay as long as I am not required back in Atlas. But, if we all stay, why don't we try to get an edge on the next semester's academics and study a little?"
Yang groaned as loud as possible to express her disagreement.
"Ice Queen, it's a two-week break!"
"Exactly, plenty of time to study and get an edge on our exams-" Weiss tried to explain her reasons, only for Yang to cut her off once again.
"Duh! Weiss-cream, it's in the name! 'Break'! B-R-E... You get the point. A break means no worries, no deadlines, and definitely no studying. That's the spirit of a break!"
"And you wonder why your grades are so low..." Blake muttered.
"Hey! I'll have you know that I got a C on my last exam!" Yang refuted.
"And Ruby got an A. And yet she skipped two years of training at Signal Academy, unlike yourself" Added Weiss. To which Yang shrugged.
"A pass is a pass and anything else is posh stuff... Well, since Weiss and Blake want to 'study'" Yang made air quotes on the word 'Study' before turning to Ruby "How about we go back to Patch, Sis?"
And the aforementioned silver-eyed teenager was caught like a deer in headlights.
"I uhhh... Okay? Maybe? WhyareyouaskingifIknowyou'reprobablygoingtodragmealonganyway?" She replied with a constant wince on her tone. While also bracing for any 'Big Sister' antics from Yang.
Yang hummed in thought before smiling.
"True! Because there's no way I'm leaving my baby sis all by herself in Beacon! Besides, dad's killing to see us"
"Yaaaaaaannng~"
But before Ruby could pout any further, Beacon Academy's P.A system kicked in, along with the voice of one Glynda Goodwitch, who sounded pretty pissy today.
"Urgh... Would Team RWBY, if still present within the Beacon Campus, make their way over to Professor Greene's office? That is all"
"Huh, I wonder what would Professor Greene possibly need us for" Wondered Weiss aloud while putting the book and the highlighter away.
"No idea!" Said Ruby, before finishing up whatever she was doing to Crescent Rose and retract it into its more transport-friendly form "But we better make it quick! Shouldn't keep him waiting!"
And just like that, Ruby Rose disappeared in a trail of rose petals.
"Hey Rubes! Wait for us!" Screamed Yang while chasing after her little sister.
"Another day, another summon for team RWBY..." Dejectedly said Blake, putting her smut (Don't deny it, Blake) away before reluctantly following after her team leader.
"You said it, Blake..." Muttered Weiss as she got up and exited the dorm room along with Blake.
When team RWBY finally made their way over to the Professor's office, they immediately braced for one of his overly welcoming greetings.
"Buon dia team RWBY! I hope it wasn't much of a problema to come around, huh?" Greeted the eccentric professor, eagerly shaking the hands of each member of the team.
Lima Greene was Beacon's resident computer systems expert, AKA: The Calculus and Tech Management teacher. While a huntsman on his own right, Greene's passion was less in killing Grimm with walls of Fire Dust, and more around breaching through firewalls and teaching young pupils how to do so, if only on a very basic level. Hence why he was at Beacon Academy and not over in Atlas with like-minded individuals. Along with that, was also his eccentricity regarding his dress style stuck several decades in the past, his weird accent, and his tendency to being very friendly with his students, but that didn't mean you couldn't pay attention on his class or fail it. He was a friendly... Monster, so to speak.
"Allora, you must be wondering why I've summoned you all here" The entirety of team RWBY stiffened upon hearing those words "But prima lo primo. Relax, you are not in trouble and I am not here to rub off what happened over at il porto. Io so che that is a very sensible topic to you all"
And just like that, all of the girls relaxed once again, prompting the team leader to step up to the plate.
"So... If we're not in trouble, why are we here?" Asked Ruby, still uneasy but less so.
"Simple! Piccola Ruby! You are all here to both help me with an experiment, and because you have earned a little reward!" Said the weird teacher after clasping his hands.
"Experiment? What kind of 'Experiment'?" Asked Blake warily.
"Nothing harmful, signorina Belladonna. Matter of fact, I think it could even be considered fun!" He made a motion to follow him, which the summoned team complied with.
The teams along with the Professor starting walking to a table covered by a cloth, several objects under the cloth making bulges over it, some more than others.
"A few days ago Ozpin sent me a few pieces of strange equipment for analysis. Sfortunatamente I haven't had much time to mess around with these devices other than getting them working. And that is where you all step in"
The Professor took away the cloth unceremoniously, revealing what could only be described as very primitive versions of Remnant technology. Including a two scroll-like things, two non-holographic screens, what seemed to be videogame consoles, one a black box and the other a small white tower. Along with very different controllers color coded for their respective systems, and several cases of games. Finally, there was a rather large black tower accompanied by a mouse, keyboard, and a bulkier controller.
"Team RWBY, hereby I humbly request you to use your two-week break to test out these strani pieces of technology. In exchange for it, may Oum forgive me for it and may Ozpin never find out, I will waive you all from presenting the first two exams of my Calculus class next semester. Suona bene?"
It didn't even pass a second before Yang spoke up and strode forward, wrapping an arm around the prof's shoulders.
"Not having to do two Calculus exams by simply messing around with some ancient tech? Sign me right up! It could be fun!" Yang then looked back at her teammates "What do you say, team RWBY? We're taking this offer or not?"
Blake and Ruby also perked up at the prospect, taking a step forward to check out what kind of stuff they would be working with. Leaving a disgruntled, confused, and shocked Weiss behind.
"Pr-Professor Greene! This is preposterous! How can ask for us to do such a thing? This is immoral!"
The good professor simply scoffed at the Schnee heiress' moral dilemma.
"Signorina Schnee. You must learn che il mondo isn't as black and white as it seems. I am merely a light shade of gray, but still gray nonetheless... Though, if you wish, I could exempt you from the exam waiver. Would that make you feel better?"
"Only if I get private tutoring from yourself, Professor" Counteroffered Weiss with a straight face in a one-eighty degree turn in her mood. Making the professor chuckle.
"It is a deal, then" Said Greene before taking out a pamphlet out of his overcoat and handing it to Ruby. "Take quest' cosi back to your dorm room and set them all up somewhere, they are all in perfect working order. Any questions regarding installation will be answered in this handy flyer I have set up. Should any problems arise, you have my scroll number. All the necessary wiring has been provided along with chargers for the things which use batteries, though the batteries are most likely empty right now, so make sure to charge all things"
"See ya 'round! Teach!" Said Yang, already out of the room carrying the tower, the mouse, the keyboard, and the controller.
"Make sure to write down qualcuna cosa importante that might happen! Along with alcuna informazioni interessante you might find inside the devices!"
And with that, team RWBY was gone and out of sight, off to toy around with the 'primitive' tech they had been handed over. He went to close the door of his office/apartment, and once that was done, he let out a hearty chuckle, a malicious grin creeping up through his factions.
"Heheheh. Now let's see what sense they make of all the Earth games I've forked over... Aw shit, I miss home"
After meeting up with Professor Greene and having agreed to aiding him on his 'experiment', the girls of team RWBY had just finished setting up most the primitive tech on their room. The only things that weren't ready at the time were those using batteries, which meant the controllers for the game consoles and the scroll-like things.
Right now, Ruby, being a bit of a techie herself, was finishing up the last details on the tall tower (Which they set up on Weiss' desk much to the heiress' chagrin). Namely connecting the screen, and a pair of speakers.
But Yang was kind of impatient at the moment.
"Soooo~! Is it ready to go?"
"Not yet..." Said Ruby as she was tightening up a weird blue-tipped cable with screws. Only to finish right then and there and pull away from the back of the tower to press the power button. "Done! Here goes nothing!"
The fans of the black tower whirred to life, along with a very audible whizzing sound. In a matter of seconds the screen displayed a blue circular logo which read 'HP' along with several prompts to press keys for recovery options, before fading back to black and then switching to a screen of a rolling circle made of white dots with a logo of four blue squares akin to a window above it.
"Looks like it's booting up! High-five!" Offered the ever-optimist team leader.
"Calm down, Ruby. Things could still go wrong" Added Blake as calmly as she could.
The screen then switched to a solid bright blue, then the spinning wheel made out of dots appeared once again, with a text reading 'Please wait' below it.
"Urgh, this is the slowest thing ever! Even my old scroll booted up faster than this thing!" Ruby snapped, frustrated with all the loading.
"I think even an intercom starts up faster than this thing. It really is ancient" Added Weiss, tapping her feet against the floor showing impatience.
"Well, it's an old thing. We couldn't expect this fossil to be faster than our scrolls" Opined Yang with her arms crossed.
"Truer words than those can't be said, partner" Added Blake.
Then the screen changed to a an unfamiliar, blurred out landscape. Overlaid on top of it was a generic person silhouette enclosed in a circle, with the text 'User' and 'Welcome' underneath. The rolling wheel was pushing the 'Welcome' off center. Not that they saw that, since the desktop appeared shortly after. Proudly showcasing a large, yet low-quality picture of a view of some unknown, large bridge with a city behind it. Icons quickly populating the screen shortly after.
"Interesting. Now, let's get this over with and scourge the storage..." Said Weiss, taking a step forward toward the contraption.
"Oh oh oh! Yang! Let's see if this has any games! It's like a slab, but bulkier!" Exclaimed Ruby, beating Weiss to the keyboard and mouse by using her semblance.
"Not to mention less carry-able, older, and slower" Sighed Yang, before going back to her sister "C'mon Rubes, leave Weiss with the thing. I doubt that thing can run any games at-"
Ruby unapologetically cut off her sister. "Oh! I found a 'Games' folder!" She quickly clicked on it, opening it. "And it's full to the brim...! Huh, I don't know any of these games. No 'Grimm Slayer'? Boooring~! Still some sound interesting"
Yang and the rest quickly stomped toward Ruby, taking a peek at the screen, and in turn, at the folder filled with game icons.
"'Mercenaries 2: World in Flames'?" Uttered Blake aloud.
"'Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven'?" Added Weiss.
"'The Sims 3'?" Read Ruby.
"'Need For Speed: The Run', huh? That one sounds exciting. Sis, click on that one" Commanded Yang.
"Hey! I'm the one using the thing, I click on what I want! And I want 'The Sims'!"
Quickly Yang jumped in action, driving one of her fists to the top of Ruby's head and using her remaining arm to restrain her for the upcoming noogie.
"You get a noogie then, Rubes!"
"Ow ow ow! Fine! Have this thing!" Moaned Ruby in the middle of her sisterly torture, before quickly using her semblance to free herself and make distance between her and Yang.
"Thanks, sis! Now..." Said Yang before taking a seat in front of the mysterious contraption housing many games they are yet to play. And they shall start with this 'Need For Speed: The Run'. She clicked the icon twice, and then the screen flickered to black. "Well, that was underwhelming"
Suddenly, the screen came back to life, displaying text along with an icon against a dark background.
"This icon indicates the game is saving to the HDD.
Please don't turn off the system while the game is saving."
"HDD? No wonder this is such a slow thing! It's using ancient storage tech!" Exclaimed Ruby from afar.
After a few seconds, the screen switched to a splash screen filled with logos of weird brands. On top of all the logos read:
"All the driving experiences portrayed in this game are for entertainment purposes only. In the real world drive safe, obey the rules of the road, and always wear your seatbelt"
"A disclaimer, curious. Some people must have been enough of a dolt to try and replicate whatever happens in the game" Said Weiss.
"And judging by the 'Driving experiences' part, this is a racing game" Blake added.
Nobody noticed, but Weiss had the slightest of smiles when the 'Racing game' part came up.
Then, the screen switched to an stylized logo reading 'EA', then switched to a pulsing black box, which then morphed into actual letters reading 'Black Box'.
"Cool" Said Yang at a loss for words.
Only for it then to fade to a logo of a stylized hand broken to bits reading 'Frostbite 2'.
"Hehehe, 'Frostbite' and the logo is a hand broken in shards of ice" Giggled Yang.
"Hey, did the SDC have anything to do with this game, Weiss?" Asked Ruby.
"I've never heard of a company named 'EA' in my life, Ruby. And why do you ask that?" Replied the heiress, turning to the crimsonette.
"I suppose it's because of the ice reference with the 'Frostbite' bit" Suggested Blake.
Weiss could only huff in annoyance.
The screen switched rapidly between a montage of scenes involving cars, before settling into an orange logo reading 'Need For Speed: The Run'.
"And there is the title" Uttered Blake.
(Music cue: Brian Tyler - Front End)
The game then switched to a new scene. This time there was a looping montage of scenes of what seemed to be a car bumper cam. Some scenes were on a city, others in a desert road, a farmland road, and finally, a snowy highway in the mountains. Superposed on top of it all there was a text:
Need For Speed
The Run
"Press Start"
"Time to do a thing, woo!" Whooped Yang, quickly grabbing the controller Ruby had plugged into the tower and pressing the required button. Which made a two windows pop up, one small and another one large.
The small window, tucked in the upper-left corner, read: "Failed to connect to Autolog server".
The big one, taking up the center of the screen, read: "You must be signed into Origin in order to access the online features of this game". Also prompted Yang to continue by pressing the button 'A' on her controller.
Unlike her little sister, Yang wasn't very interested in online gaming, so she promptly ignored the pop-ups asking for her to sign into this 'Origin' network, and rapidly tapped the 'A' button on the controller to skip it.
The game then switched to the main menu, with a slowed down montage of different scenes, similar to the ones in the title screen. The main menu had several options including: "The Run", "Challenge Series", "Multiplayer", "View Cars", "Settings", "Extras", and "Exit".
"Okaaaaayyyy~! What do I do now?" Asked Yang to her teammates.
"Well, since this thing is a little slow, we should try to lower the graphics just in case! Maybe check out if we can remap the control scheme too!" Suggested Ruby.
"And how do I do that? You know I'm more of a console gamer"
"Well, the options should be in the settings menu, as if it wasn't obvious" Added Weiss.
"I know Weiss-cream, I know..." Yang droned as she moved the cursor over to the settings menu to start tweaking the game's settings.
A few minutes later, Yang (Actually Ruby, who had to take over from Yang since she didn't know what to do in the display settings menu and ended up messing the screen aspect ratio) had finished tweaking the game's settings to her liking, and was ready to start "The Run".
"Alright! Here we go! Time to be on The Run! Huh?" Punned the blonde brawler, making everyone present groan in annoyance.
"Cheapshot!" Screamed Ruby.
"Geez, tough crowd" Complained Yang, before hitting 'A' on her controller one more time to enter the 'The Run' menu.
The screen changes to black, where the only visible elements are the menu items, including the level bar, the name of the menu, and most importantly, the options available, which were: 'Start New', 'Stage Select', and 'The Run Leaderboard'.
Yang, eager to get this show on the road once and for all, selected 'Start New'.
The game then switches to another menu, this one prompting Yang to choose a difficulty level. Those levels in the menu were: 'Easy', 'Normal', 'Hard', and 'Extreme'.
"Yang Xiao-Long always goes for 'Extreme', baby!" She says and moves her cursor to hover over her desired difficulty level, without realizing that said difficulty level has a padlock icon besides it "What?! It's locked?! What a load of bull!"
"Complete The Run in any difficulty to unlock Extreme mode"
"Guess you'll have to play hard, sis!" Said Ruby with two thumbs up.
Yang smirked at the unintended pun from Ruby as she selected the 'Hard' difficulty.
The screen faded to black, only to flash back to life with loading screen along with some text and a picture.
"Jack Rourke"
"Jack is a driver. One of the best."
"His cockiness and arrogance have led him into a debt he can't repay. The mob have put a price on his head."
"He's looking for a way out."
"Tip: When turning, let go of the gas. This will make the car corner more aggressively"
"How arrogant do you have to be so you can end indebted up to your eyeballs?" Wondered Weiss.
Yang whistled in disappointment.
"Looks like you have to be as arrogant as this guy. Wow. A place where running your mouth ends up with you neck-deep in debt? This must be in Vacuo"
"You wouldn't last a day in there, Yang" Mocked Ruby, taking her tongue out.
"Hey! If you've got it, flaunt it!" The blonde brawler defended her boastful personality.
(Music cue: Crusher - Brian Tyler)
The loading screen faded away, leaving in its place the image of a car wheel.
"That's a pretty rim, by the way" Said Yang.
"Electronic Arts Presents"
"So that's what 'EA' means!" Jumped Ruby, before turning at the Schnee heiress.
"No, Ruby. I still haven't heard of a company like this 'Electronic Arts'" Interjected Weiss, sighing.
Ruby deflated very fast.
The camera kept fading in and out, showing different close-up angles of a very elegant-looking red sports car.
Yang whistled in amusement.
"Wheew! That's a nice ride!"
"I'll admit. That's a sleek car" Said Blake.
"It has presence. Looks an old Atlesian model with a few things off. Like the badges and the front bumper shape" Added Weiss. The team was a little surprised that she seemed to know her cars a little.
"And it's red! Everyone knows Red makes everything cooler!" Cut in Ruby.
"A Black Box Production"
"So, by the look of things: This 'Electronic Arts' is the publishing label for this 'Black Box'-made game" Observed the Schnee heiress.
"And you mean?" Asked Yang.
"Urgh. This game was likely developed like a movie. One company does the work, being the production/development house - In this case 'Black Box -, and another company handles the costs while also handling distribution of the finished, publicity, and they also get a majority of the revenue - In this case 'EA' or 'Electronic Arts'"
"Uh-huh"
Yang didn't get it in the slightest.
The camera kept showing off the car enough times so they could realize two things: The vehicle is a Porsche Carrera 4S, and its registration plate reads 'The Run'.
"Porsche? Carrera 4S? Never heard of it" Yang gave her two lien on the situation, and she's kind of a gearhead.
"It's quite ironic that the license plate is a part of the name of the game..." Muttered Blake.
Soon enough, the screen cuts to show an unconscious and very bruised Jack Rourke. The level of detail on his character model is impressive.
"Ouch. That must've been quite the beat-up, poor guy" Said Ruby.
As Jack regains consciousness, the camera starts zooming out to reveal that Jack has his hands duct-taped to a steering wheel by his wrists. He starts testing the restraints.
"Uh-oh" Said the thing whole team in unison.
"Restrained hands always means bad news" Opined Blake.
"I guess you'd know about that, don't you Blakey?" Teased Yang, making a jab at Blake's time in The White Fang.
"Shut up"
The screen then shows that the red car they saw earlier is hanging off a magnet in a scrap yard, straight into a crusher... With Jack in it.
"THEY ARE GOING TO CRUSH HIM ALIVE?!" Shrieked both Ruby and Blake.
"These people are way worse than The White Fang! True! It's not like decapitation is any better, but at least it's instantaneous! This is simply inhumane!" Added Blake, prompting everyone to give her an 'Are you serious?' look. "Hey, I'm not saying I approve of either. It's just that one is less agonizing than the other!"
"Blakey, you're oversharing. We know you now trust us with your past but this is too much" Said Yang, prompting Weiss and Ruby to hum in agreement.
"And you guys wonder why I don't talk much..."
The camera cuts to a view from Jack's POV, who is peering down to the inside of the crusher below as he struggles with his restraints.
"The odds seem not to be in his favor on this one" Thought Weiss out loud.
"Well... You could say he's having a... Crushing day" Punned Yang, much to everyone's chagrin.
"Yaaaaaannng~!" Moaned Ruby, quite tired of her sister trying to be funny and failing miserably at it.
The screen then shows a view of the control cabin of the crusher which moves slowly to the side before it stops in a specific lever, which someone promptly pulls. Then it switches to an inside view of Jack's car, which is now falling in slow motion. Another camera cut to an outside view of how the fall looks, then another to a pair of men, one older whom is dressed in an all-black suit, and another one younger, who is wearing a gray coat with a blue t-shirt underneath. Both are watching as the car falls into the crusher.
"Who are those people? Why aren't they doing anything to save him instead of just standing there and watch?!" Asked a frustrated Ruby, obviously not getting the full picture.
"I think those are the mobsters Jack owes money to, hence why they aren't helping him" Theorized Blake.
"Oh"
The camera cuts to a view of Jack's panicked and screaming face in slow motion, before cutting to another inside view from the center console of the car just as the world goes back to normal speed and the car falls into the crusher. Then another cut to the outside of the crusher as it begins to do its job.
"Welp, nice knowing you, Jack!" Joked Yang.
"How can you be so calm about this?! He's about to die!" Asked Ruby in panic.
"Relax, sis. He's the protag, he can't die this early"
As the camera shows the crusher beginning to do its deed, it zooms close to Jack's face just outside the windshield.
A prompt appears on the screen reading: 'ESCAPE FROM THE CAR!'. Along with an icon of a blue 'X' button.
Yang pressed the button in a hitch, and watched as Jack started biting into the tape restraining his right wrist.
"See? What I'd tell you? Jack isn't gonna die in the first minute of the game" Said Yang, sparing a glance at Ruby before getting back into the game. "So? Quick time event?"
The game kept telling Yang to smash the 'B' button, which she did.
After weakening his restraints by biting into the tape, Jack pulls at them with all of his strength, breaking them. He then simply pulls at the ones restraining his left wrist and frees himself.
"Wow, he's strong. And judging from the bio? I don't think he's a huntsman" Whistled Yang.
"Goes without taking into account he was restrained by duct tape out of all things" Snorted Weiss.
Yang shot a look at Blake, asking for her two lien on the matter. Blake simply smirked and looked away from Yang. Making her huff and spare a glance at Ruby.
"W-well, duct tape is pretty strong! As dad says: When in doubt, always go for duct tape! It fixes everything...!"
Both Yang and Ruby started having flashbacks to all the 'repairs' Taiyang Xiao-Long had made at their home back at Patch over the years, making them both shudder.
After freeing himself, Jack scoots over to the passenger seat as the crusher keeps trying to crush the red sports car, breaking all the windows and making glass shards rain over Jack. He looks around for a way out before settling his sights on the sunroof of the Carrera. A prompt for pressing the 'X' button shows again.
Yang pressed the button several times. Making Jack start hitting the glass sunroof until it breaks.
"Okay. I won't deny this civilian's strength any longer. He just regained consciousness, freed himself from duct tape restraints, and now smashed what's probably a tempered glass sunroof. I don't know if this is videogame logic or he is just ridiculously strong" Claimed Weiss.
"Why not both?" Asked Yang without sparing a glance at the heiress, too busy with reacting to the quicktime events as they came, now holding both analog triggers on her controller at the same time.
"Fair point"
Once the car's sunroof breaks, Jack climbs out of the car and into its roof before putting both of his arms on one of the ledges of the crusher. A prompt for pressing the red 'B' button appears once again.
Yang once again smashed the required button to get the action going.
Jack eventually climbs over the ledge and escapes the crusher, falling crouched into safety.
"I just thought of something. I think the time it took him to escape would have been enough time for the crusher to do its job before Rourke managed to escape his fate. So I'm going to go with the whole 'videogame logic' argument for everything for now on" Interjected Weiss, making Blake spare a glance at the Schnee heiress in realization.
"That's... Actually a very fair point. Most crushers take about 45 seconds to process a vehicle, and even if that car was in mint condition, it wouldn't have stood a chance" Added Blake, conceding to Weiss' point.
"Yang actually managed to escape in 38 seconds" Said Ruby, before showing her scroll to her team.
The young reaper's scroll was set on the stopwatch app, and it read 38.29.
"Ha! Yang? One! Crusher? Ze-ro!" Boasted the blonde brawler with a fire in her eyes.
"Oh, great. Now she is never going to shut up about this" Said Weiss before doing a facepalm.
"... Sorry?"
After escaping the crusher, Jack starts looking around for means to escape the scrap yard. After advancing for a bit, he eventually finds a blue-gray sedan. Immediately upon seeing it, he legs it.
"Go Jack Go!" Cheered Ruby.
After not making it very far, though, the camera cuts once again to the two men from before, whom have now clocked Jack.
"Aaaand getaway car's directly in front of the bad guys. First movie cliché!"
The older man nudges the young one in the shoulder to catch his attention.
"What the hell? He's outta the car! Grab 'em! Grab 'em!" He said before trying to run after Jack, the young guy shortly following suit. "Hurry up! Come on!"
However, it's too late already, since Jack has already made his way to the car and has closed the door shut.
The screen fades to black.
"They were close, those two probably catched him" Opined Blake.
The screen comes back to life, showing the car Jack just stole from the mob skidding away from the junkyard.
"I think he locked the door" Said Yang with a pleased smile on her face.
Blake just sighed in response.
When the game HUD showed up, Yang gained control of the car. No prompts telling Yang how to accelerate came up on the screen, though after tweaking the settings they weren't needed in the slightest. Yang pushed the right trigger on her controller as hard as she could, the car quickly gaining speed. After making it though a narrow road lined by scrap, she made it into a clearing where two black SUVs were turning.
A prompt appears on the screen reading: 'ESCAPE THE MOB'.
"Black SUVs equals mobsters. Very cliché" Muttered Blake.
"Second movie cliché? Check!" Agreed Yang.
Then came a sharp turn. Yang tried to keep the pedal to the metal through the turn, only to slam the side of the car against the wall of scrap, losing all of her speed.
"Bad driver~!" Teased Ruby.
"Hey! I thought this was going to be one of those games where I can floor it through turns! I didn't expect that I actually have to brake!" Replied Yang in a very defensive way.
"Well, this game looks realistic to a degree, you should've seen it coming, Yang" Blake added.
Yang sighed in defeat. "Yeah, you're right. Should've-"
Due to the crash, the mobster SUVs catched up to Yang's sedan, and started firing at it with submachine guns.
"YO! WHAT THE HELL!" Hollered the blonde.
"He does have a price on his head, Xiao-Long. It's expected people will try to claim the bounty by any means necessary, and that the ones offering the bounty will try to do the deed themselves to not pay an outsider" Explained Weiss, earning looks of disbelief from the 'R' and the 'B' of 'RWBY'. The Schnee heiress sighed and added in a dejected tone. "I know this because I have overheard Father putting contracts on people, happy now?"
"Not really, Weiss. Actually I'm shocked. How can your dad do something like that?! That's bad!" Asked Ruby, alarmed.
"Father has a... Very skewered moral compass..."
"It's more along the lines of not having a moral compass at all" Blake spoke out loud enough for everyone to hear. Making Weiss slump on her seat.
"Please, don't fight about this..." Pleaded the young reaper, before sparing a glance at the Ice Queen. "Please, when you get the company, will you promise me that you won't do anything your father would do?"
"Don't worry. I will end all of it. That along with faunus discrimination within the ranks of the SDC, you all have my word. I promise"
This earned several solemn nods of agreement.
"AAAAAAARRRRRGH! DAMN IT ALL!" Screamed Yang in frustration, eyes red in anger. Prompting the rest of team RWBY to take a look at the screen.
'WASTED'
While they were all talking, Yang already had gotten blown up seven times by the mobsters.
"Mind if I try?" Asked Weiss to Yang getting closer to her, motioning to the controller in the blonde brawler's hands.
Said blonde slammed the controller against the Ice Queen's chest.
"Urgh, thank you" The heiress mockingly thanked as she settled the controller into her hands before pausing the game and hitting 'Restart Event'.
"By the way, I'm pissed off at this game, not you. I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up in the same mood as I am right now. This thing's beyond unfair. By the time you tap the gas you already have them on your tail!"
"Really? Well. We shall see..."
If you had sharp eyes at the moment, you would've noticed that Weiss had a greatly concealed smirk going on.
After the game reloaded, Weiss went through the motions, flying past the mobster SUVs and doing a handbrake turn on the sharp turn Yang had slammed into before. She continued, meeting another turn which she handled without a handbrake turn.
When the mobsters tried to catch up to her, the Ice Queen brake-checked one of the SUVs, and slammed into the other with the tail of the sedan, slowing them down.
"What the hell?" RBY said in unison, prompting a visible smirk from Weiss who kept silent as she continued to play.
The escape continued. Turn after turn, Weiss showed skill behind the wheel of the virtual sedan, having avoided two head-on collisions narrowly and keeping her pursuers at bay with defensive driving. She sped past a flurry of bullets that were coming her way but ended up landing on a trailer full of red barrels, which exploded upon impact and blocked the road for her pursuers for a moment.
A blue light shows out of nowhere and the camera grows two cinematic bars and makes the HUD disappear for a second before zooming into the source of the light, revealing it to be an oncoming train.
Weiss simply floored it upon regaining control of the car, ignoring the pursuers that had somehow catched up to her. Focusing on making it past the railroad crossing before the train could, and that she did.
As the game once returned to a cinematic angle, it shows how Jack's stolen car narrowly makes it past the railroad crossing before the train, taking out a sign as it does. The camera switches to show a view of the car making it out of there, before zooming into the undercarriage of the train's cars, allowing the viewers to take peeks of what's behind. In this case, a bunch of black SUVs with no other option but to wait until the train passes. The camera cuts once again to Jack's car speeding away before fading to black.
"How...? How are you so good at this?" Asked a baffled Yang Xiao-Long, impressed with Weiss' virtual driving skills.
"Racing games are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me" Said Weiss before turning to her team. "Father would never approve of me gaming on my scarce leisure time, but Klein - our butler - always wanted for me to be more of a normal child, so he sneakily gifted me various portable gaming systems for me to have"
Weiss paused the game and set the controller down on her lap before continuing.
"Besides the usual platformers, strategy games, RPGs, and beat-them-ups, there was the occasional racing game, and I always got hooked on those. My reflexes aren't this quick by just conventional training. Gaming also helped, and what better to train your reaction times than a racing game?"
It is also a great way to deepen family rivalries. Whitley is still pissed because he cannot beat me in Grand Prix Racing. Mentally added the Heiress.
"Wow, just... Wow, Weiss. We would've never thought you were a gamer" Sputtered Blake, barely out of her shock.
"That, I know. Nobody does, and even if people pegged me for even being the slightest of a gamer, they wouldn't expect Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company to be playing racing games out of all things" She scoffed. "Right, like if it was some kind of uncivilized entertainment. A prime and proper person such as myself also needs their adrenaline pumping at times for Oum's sake, and all the better if it's on a controlled, virtual environment"
Weiss then shot a fierce glare at her teammates, before threateningly adding something more. "But, if any of you tell this to anyone else, I will skin you all alive"
RBY gulped. And with a satisfied smile, Weiss returned to playing Need For Speed, though she unpaused right in time for another loading screen, which elicited a grimace from the heiress.
"And thinking I was the one who was gonna play the game and be great at it and rub it on your faces..." Muttered Yang. Still not getting over it.
"Don't worry Yang, you can have the next race... Well, the next after this one, Weiss seems hooked on the game" Comforted Ruby.
No would ever peg Weiss being one for racing games, and honestly, neither do I. But for the sake of a small twist, Weiss likes racing games on this one. And team JNPR will be introduced in the next chapter, and The first stage of The Run will be finished so we can be done in this game for a while.
In other news: There's a poll in my profile so the next game team RWBY should play is decided, so make sure to vote!
