Chapter 1. Side-effect
It has been roughly 4 years since the great detective, Shinichi kudo turned into a child. It was a 4 years of hardships, hiding, lying, and a bit of desperation. But in the end, finally, Shinichi was able to overcome it. Taking down the Black Organization with the help from the FBI, National Police Agency, and of course Kaitou Kid helped along as well.
It was rather a surprise to the young detective that the phantom thief would help. Until this day, the reason still remain a mystery.
After the take down. After so many sleepless nights as soon they receive the file to the poison APTX 4869, Haibara Ai, originally known as Miyano Shiho, went immediately to create the antidote. One month passed and it was a success! Shinichi was finally back to his adult body! But... there seems to be something wrong with the detective.

"I knew there would be a side effect from the antidote.. surely this is not what i had in mind" said an 11 years old girl with light brown permed hair in a disbelief tone.
"Tell me 'bout it." A tan skinned male with an Osaka accent crosses his arms and stared at a quiet nervous looking male.
Haibara sighed, according to what Heiji told her... apparently, the Osakan detective just so happen to heard the news that the great detective of East finally returned five days after.
So, the tan male immediately went to Beika to meet the East detective. But as soon as he arrived to greet the male, Shinichi has been giving him the silent treatment. In fact, Heiji could have sworn that the detective was giving him alot of death glares.
Heiji thought that he might have done something wrong and had apologized to the detective the whole time until they suddenly caught in a murder case on their way. Surprise surprise to the Osakan male, even in the crime scene, the brunette still stayed quiet and a bit fidgety.
'It was weird' Heiji had said when he told the story. To Haibara, yes. It was also weird. Usually Shinichi would be running his mouth all the time, especially when there's another detective with him.
Heiji even told her that once he found who the culprit was, he asked Shinichi and the guy just nodded. When the Osakan male confront the culprit, he was missing a single piece of the evidence. A very important evidence. Heiji thought that Shinichi would butt in immediately, but instead, the brunette just glared at the suspect intensely to the point they start to sweat nervously. (Heiji then also mentioned that he hear this very quiet but intimidating sound coming from the East detective)
Relaxing his tense body, Shinichi took out a small notebook and a pen from his pocket to write his deduction and the important evidence. Heiji didn't notice it at first but now that he's retelling the story, he remembered that the East detective's hands was shaking quite a bit when he showed his notebook to the culprit and the police.
It's even more strange that as soon they were done with the case, Shinichi apologized so sincerely with a sad frown and anxious face for being so quiet to the tan male through writings.
That arrogant, somewhat cold, and attention seeking detective? Apologizing that way over something simple? It must be the end of the world!
"With what you said to me... there's a possibility that Kudo-kun suffer from a social anxiety.. i dont know how, but his lack of communication must have been from the antidote" Haibara said, quite confused on what she should diagnose the detective with.
"Uhm.. please explain?" Haiji asked, he might be a detective, but he doesn't understand how the antidote has to do with anything.
Haibara with a deadpan said, "the APTX 4869 is a strong a poison, it forcefully changes one body to grew younger. It destroys cells and recreate. The antidote isn't so different, it even have a 60% of survival upon digesting it. I could only expect that there would be some type of side effect to it.."
"Ohh- so like, the antidote might done somethin' to Kudo's ability to communicate?" Heiji questioned and earned a nod from Haibara that means he is correct about it.
"Im also guessing that due to his lack of communication, it may have cause some misunderstanding for the past five days..." Haibara said and Shinichi soon lowered his head guiltily.
The moment Shinichi took that antidote, he quickly went to his childhood friend- also ex girlfriend's house to apologized for his disappearance and sudden break up. But when he arrived there, he found it hard to let out his voice and only bits of the words he intended to speak came out.
It of course ended with Ran getting mad, telling the detective that she's absolutely tired with him not explaining anything.
Not only that, Shinichi also had trouble speaking to his parents that wanted to celebrate of his return. It ended with a misunderstanding, both of his parents interpreted his silence and stoic look as a sign of anger toward the two.
And he can't even begin at how he has been giving his friends in school the cold shoulder and silent treatment. He felt so bad when he saw the hurt look they all had.
"And so now he is anxious that more people might misunderstand his behavior" the small scientist heaved a sigh. She somehow just understand how frustrated Shinichi is now that he have another problem.
"Don't worry too much Kudo, im sure this is just temporary"
Shinichi's face brightened, "so yer tellin' me that he can go back to his usual self for real?" Heiji were also happy to hear that, it's kinda sad to see his best friend like this.
"Yes. But I don't know how long nor do I know if this can be fixed automatically or manually. Who knows, he might actually need to relearn how to communicate" as much she pitied the male detective, Haibara think that it could be fun watching Shinichi learning how to talk to people.
The said detective, let out a grimace expression, "i have to teach him then" Heiji said.
Haibara shook her head, even if the Osakan male is Shinichi's friend, she can't trust a hothead like Heiji to teach the male, "as if i trust you with it. I don't want Kudo turning into like you. He's already hard to deal to begin with" Heiji grumbled at that.
"We'll need someone who is an expert with this kind of stuff... someone similar to Kudo..." Haibara trailed off her words, she couldn't think of anyone.. Shinichi's childhood friend could be a possibility but as far as she sees, even Ran couldn't understand the detective that much.
At that point, something clicked inside Shinichi's mind. He tried to speak but all that came out was just stutters of the letter "K", so he decided to immediately searched for something to write on and write with. Both the small scientist and tan male raised an eyebrow at the quick movement.
"Kid..?" Shinichi wrote in pencil on a piece of paper, which earned a realization from Haibara and a confused look from Heiji, "of course! That phantom thief disguised as Kudo several times and act perfectly like him!" The child claimed.
"Er okay? First of all, how da hell are we supposed to ask help from a phantom thief??" Heiji questioned.
Shinichi quickly dig out his phone from his pocket and scrolled through his contacts. He then showed his Osakan friend a contact that goes under the name "Stupid Thief". By the name itself, it was so obvious who it was, "can't believe that ya had his number- what the hell Kudo." Heiji looked at Shinichi that just gave him a shrug.
"Well atleast ya actin' like yerself minus the talkin' around us both. Prolly cuz we know what's going on so you're less anxious 'bout it" the Osakan detective smiled in relief at the improvement.
"Right then, Kudo lend me your phone, i'll speak to him instead." Haibara command and Shinichi gave her his phone. She then walked away as she press dialed on the thief's number.
As the small scientist disappeared to another room, Heiji and Shinichi sat down and waited, "seriously though, Kudo. How bad can yer luck be??" The tan male joked and chuckled a little bit.
The brunette tug on Heiji's sleeve, "Shi- sh- shinichi.. ccccall me..." he stuttered, averting his gaze realizing how embarrassing he sounded.
To the Osakan male, what he just witness was in nowhere near as embarrassing. It- it was.. it was cute, "uh yeah! Of course, Shinichi."
Shinichi smiled at that, relief that Heiji isn't laughing over his fail attempt on talking.
"Okay so... i might have been too vague to him" Haibara said to the two as she walked toward them, "and now he is coming here, now. Gosh im never going to get my sleep.." she groaned, she had told the phantom thief to come tomorrow and when he asked why, Haibara just told him that it was complicated to explain through phone and that it involve Shinichi.
Hearing that, Kid couldn't stay still. He has been waiting to meet his favorite detective again in his full glory. Getting a call from the little scientist about Shinichi means that something bad happened, Kid isn't going to wait for tomorrow.
Shinichi on the other hand suddenly felt fidgety, "why now?" Is the only thing in his mind. He knows that today was a Kid heist and he deliberately missed it, he was just not ready to meet the thief in his current condition. Not until he explains everything to Haibara. Oh, Shinichi would be completely okay if the thief comes tomorrow, but now? He probably won't hear the end of Kid asking him why he didn't attend the heist.
And yes, the East detective was completely right. Here, infront of him is the white clad thief standing with a slightly disappointed and worried look.
Kid had suddenly appeared inside with a poof of smokes, "mou, Meitantei! What's going on? Are you hurt? Did something happen? What did the lil' scientist mean? Why didn't you attend my heist!?" The thief bombarded the poor detective with questions immediately after he arrived.
Shinichi dont know how he should explain- the questions were too much and he could see that Kid is about his mouth to ask another question, "S S S S- SH- sh- SH-" the East detective tried speaking to stop whatever the thief is trying to say, unfortunately it ended up being nothing but incoherent stuttering mess and an absolutely terrifying glare toward Kid.
Kid let out a quiet screech, "did i do something wrong?" He asked in a terrified tone, shocked at the detective's reaction.
Both Heiji and Haibara watched the white clad thief with a wry expression, "maybe if you calm yourself like the usual gentleman thief you are. You wouldn't be so surprised, mr. thief" the young girl said, she knew that Kid were comfortable with Shinichi and her after all these years and would always dismissed his thief persona. She just find it quite odd that Kid would also do that infront Heiji.
Haibara glance at Shinichi who is currently went stiff like a rock after realizing that he had unconsciously scared the thief, she chuckled, "what he's trying to say is, 'shut up, too much question'. I agree with him, one at a time please." She explained.
Kid raised an eyebrow, "huh? Then- what?" He was confused. He noticed that his favorite detective is acting weird and strangely scary but the tan male and the little scientist doesn't seem faze about it, "uhmm, explain??"
"In short, because of da antidote, Shinichi is having trouble with talkin' , he stuttered alot and couldn't help but glare all the time" Heiji said, making the thief understand of the current situation.
"Yes and , we were hoping that you could teach him how to normally communicate again" Haibara said with a smile, but Kid had a feeling that there is a mischievous intent behind that innocent looking smile.
