Yo I'm not dead.
Pairing: Ichigo x Harem I guess? Likely some yaoi and some straight shit.
So the story takes place after the Fullbring/Tale of the Lost Agent arc, some aspects borrowed from other series. Aim is to have around 1k-3k words a chapter. We no betaing this shit cause we live on the edge.

"Why do you want to become a ghoul Investigator?"
"To protect people I guess," Ichigo answered, leaning back in the metal chair he was given. The room he was assigned to seemed more like an integration room. "Who the hell are you anyway?"
"I'm the one who decides if you get this job or not, Mister Kurosaki," The man said, before giving his name. "Kishou Arima."
"Who?" Ichigo asked the now named interviewer. "Last I checked I was supposed to be interviewed by Yukinori Shinohara and I know he doesn't have four eyes from the time I visited the academy."
Ichigo watched a small smile show itself on Kishou Arima's face at what he just said before realizing he shouldn't have mentioned the academy.
"Oh yes, the Ghoul Investigator Training Academy. You would have been interviewed by him if not for you attacking Goumasa Tokage and a fellow student," Kishou said, pushing up his glasses. The action reminded Ichigo of Uryu, causing him to let out a groan of frustration.
"He tried starting shit with a friend of mine and he had it coming. The student on the other hand needed some sense knocked into him and that's what I did," Ichigo reasoned, his defense on what he did was simple and straight to the point.
"You broke his arm and you were about to break his other arm before you were stopped. The student only suffered minor bruising and a black eye," Kishou said, pointing the black pen at the orange haired teen who rubbed the back of his head sheepishly at the facts laid out in front of him. "In the report the student says you said you would do worse next time, though only one other student disputes this claim. Any comments?"
"I did say I would beat some sense into the dude again. That's about it," Ichigo said, adding his only comment to the report on him. "If that's the only reason I'm here you don't mind if I leave now right?"
"If you didn't score so well you could and it would be water under the bridge for the both of us, but your scores on the physical test were up to par with some of the best," Kishou answered, intrigued by the teen after reading the report from the academy. "Even your written scores are in the top twenty for someone who only wanted to join six months ago."
"Does that mean I'm hired?" Ichigo asked, leaning forward his attention on the man in front of him.
"Yes but you won't be sent to the district you wanted," Kishou replied, seeing the teens scowl. "You'll be sent to the twentieth ward for now and if you prove yourself you can go to the thirteenth."
Ichigo groaned after hearing that knowing that the twentieth ward had barely any hostile ghouls in it. "Why can't I be assigned to the thirteenth ward? There's hardly any hostile ghouls in the twentieth ward."
"Simply you have no experience dealing with ghouls. Once you acquire enough experience we can move you to that ward if you would like to be moved there still," Kishou answered before continuing, already knowing that the teen would argue with him. "Do you even know what a ghoul looks like in real life? You might have passed the written test but that doesn't mean you can distinguish it in a real flight or how to defend yourself accordingly."
"So send me to the thirteenth ward and I'll learn about them faster than being in the twentieth ward," Ichigo reasoned, knowing that he could make it in the thirteenth ward.
"If it was up to me alone, sure I would agree to your suicidal request, but it's not Kurosaki," Kishou said, watching Ichigo groan once again. "One you do not have a partner, two you do not have a quinque."
"I don't need a partner, they would just slow me down, and I don't like quinques. Just give me a katana and I'll be fine," Ichigo said, tapping the table with his finger knowing that he could tap into his fullbring abilities if things got heated up.
"Kurosaki enough, do you want the job or not?" Kishou asked, causing Ichigo to stop arguing and stare at him.
"Fine."
"Good to hear," Kishou said, smiling at the young man. "Once you check in at the CCG twentieth ward branch tomorrow morning you'll be given a katana and a report of the ward. Do not fail Kurosaki."
"Wait, what about my partner?" Ichigo asked, confused that he or she didn't get mentioned.
"Oh you want one all of a sudden? I thought you were perfectly fine being by yourself," Kishou said, earring a look of shock from Ichigo before the teen smiled in realization.
"I'm fine," Ichigo answered, smiling to himself as he stood up from his chair. "I better be heading over there then since it's getting late after all."
"Do you have a place to stay?" Kishou asked, stopping the teen in place with that question.
"Nope," Ichigo answered, his phone already in hand looking for an apartment to rent. "If I can't get an apartment I'll just rent a hotel room for a couple of days and figure something out."
"If you can't find one on your own you can contact the branch office you're assassigned to for help," Kishou replied to Ichigo who nodded his head as he left the room.
"Interesting kid," he commented to himself as he replayed the fight between him and Goumasa Tokage before attacking the other student.
"Pick up the damn phone Kisuke!" Ichigo yelled into his annoyance written on his face as he wandered the streets of the twentieth ward. The moonless sky above him as he looked for available apartments to rent, his suitcase dragging behind him. A notification appeared on his phone, the sender Kisuke.
"You're fucking with me right," Ichigo said to himself as he stared at the picture of Kisuke, Yoruichi, and his dad drinking in celebration of him getting the job. Before another notification appeared this time from his dad saying how proud he was of him. His annoyance lowering at the message, a small smile replacing his scowl. His response was a quick thanks.
Scrolling through his contacts he wondered who would have any information on places to rent. He already knew that most of his highschool friends didn't have any ties to Tokyo, so they were a no go for calling. He stared at the only contact in his phone that likely would be of any help, a curse leaving his mouth as he clicked call, hoping that it would go to voicemail.
"Kurosaki."
"Yo," He replied, staring at the street light wondering if it could fall on him. "I need a favor."
"So that's why you called? Fine, what do you need?"
"I need an apartment, in the twentieth ward of Tokyo. It's for my job," Ichigo said, explaining his situation to the person over the phone.
"Congratulations on the job. To be honest I don't think anyone expected you to be a ghoul investigator. What happened to majoring in english literature?" The voice asked, the sound of clicking faint in the background.
"Still plan on doing that. I'm going to register for the classes online once I get a couple of paychecks," Ichigo answered, knowing that his dad wasn't someone who would lend him the money for it. "I'll pay you back also."
"If you need money for college Ichigo I could pay for it," The voice said, the sound of clicking gone now.
"Yukio thanks but I have to do it myself," Ichigo answered, feeling that the young fullbringer was rolling his eyes at what he said.
"Well if you ever change your mind you have my number," Yukio answered, his voice sounding disinterested in the conversation. "Oh, I found an apartment for you. You're going to have a neighbor though. Someone called Ken Kaneki, currently studying japanese literature at Kamii University. Does it work out for you?"
"Yeah it does," Ichigo replied, pushing himself off the suitcase into a standing position, his arms stretching above him. "Thanks Yukio, I owe you one."
"If you owe me one call more often," Yukio said, causing Ichigo to let out a small laugh.
"Sure will," Ichigo replied, saying his goodbye and hanging up. The address and location of where the keys were kept sent over in a text message. The apartment is only a ten minute walk from his current location. Thank you Yukio, he thought as he pulled his suitcase along the sidewalk. His eyes talking in the houses and stores as he walked, the neighborhood completely different then the one in Karakura town.
"Home sweet home," He said, staring at the building.
Ichigo yelled as he hopped around the room trying to put on the pants for his suit. The tie wrapped around his neck as he looked at the clock. "Fuck!" He yelled, throwing on the suit's jacket as he buttoned the upper half of the plain white shirt. The smell of burning toast filling his nose alerting him that it was overcooked.
"Did you turn off my alarm Zangetsu?" He asked the zanpakuto spirit, who laid unmoving under the covers of the bed.
"Damn it," He said, seeing that Zangetsu wasn't moving and the smell of smoke was filling the room. He made his way to the kitchen, eyes widening at all the smoke that filled the room. His body instinctively rushed to the window to try and get the smoke out of the apartment.
The phone in his pocket beeping once again alerting him he only had five minutes to get to his new job before being late. He threw the burnt toast into trash, hoping that the twentieth ward branch building had vending machines to get food from. He threw open the door to the hallway, his briefcase for work in hand as he stared at the two grey eyes of a black haired teen in front of him.
"Yo, Ichigo Kurosaki you're new neighbor," He said as he rushed past the teen, who weakly waved his hand at him in acknowledgement. Confusion written on his face at what just transpired. "We'll talk more later!"
He jumped down most of the stairs pushing past the door with ease as he took a hard right, excusing himself as he pushed past people on the sidewalk. The clock on his phone counting down the remaining time he had to be at the branch office. The tall building finally glimpsed as he pushed himself towards it.
"Right on time Mister Kurosaki," A voice said as he put his hands on his knees trying to catch his breath. The suit was not helping him at all. "Got to say I'm pretty impressed you ran all the way here in time."
"Yasutomo you owe me five hundred yen," Another voice said, causing Ichigo to look up at the two people in front of him.
A tall middle aged looking man with stubble on his chin and short black hair wearing a gray formal suit with an white open collar shirt under it, no tie though he noted. The man standing next to him was a younger looking person with short brown hair and round glasses. He was also wearing a formal suit but the color was black instead of grey, with a blue tie tied around his neck.
"Pleasure to meet you, Ichigo. This old man over here is Yasutomo Nakajima and I'm Ippei Kusaba," Ippei said, reaching his hand out to Ichigo to shake. The orange haired teen shook it before shaking Yasutomo's hand, the smell of cigarette smoke lingering around him.
"So you guys are the ones that are going to show me the ropes, I guess I'm in your care," Ichigo said, causing them to laugh at his statement.
"Oh the prodigy is humble, that's a first," Yasutomo commented, slapping Ichigo on the back playfully. "We're just lowly bureau investigators compared to a rank three ghoul investigator like you."
"Stop teasing the kid Yasutomo," Ippei said, between laughs. "Sorry Ichigo but you're the second person to become a ghoul investigator before becoming an adult, so some of us are nervous."
"Second?" Ichigo asked, wondering who was the first.
"Kishou Arima was the first."
"You mean four eyes?" Ichigo said, causing both of the bureau investigators to break down laughing at what he said.
"That's a first," Yasutomo said, wiping his eyes. "Tell me you didn't call that to his face."
Ichigo scratched the back of head looking away sheepishly knowing that he did. "I kind of did call him that."
"Holy shit kid, you're braver then you look or extremely dumb," Yasutomo said, earning a laugh from Ichigo.
"Been told it's a mixture of both," He commented remembering all of the stunts he pulled.
"Well you'll be a shoe in here then," Ippei said, grabbing onto Ichigo's shoulder to lead him to show him around the building. "Welcome to your home away from home."
