You know about those stories where real-world readers get dumped into their favorite manga/TV show, etc, etc? I envy them. Because not only did I get randomly self-inserted, but I get reincarnated! After a disaster worse than Sabaody, the crew are 'saved' by Vegapunk's experimental time machine. All of the crew is blown back into their past bodies with all of their memories. As Luffy slowly gathers them together again, the world will never be the same. Who wants the same old boring adventure? Screw the plot, and let the chips fall where they may.
