Everything had to be perfect for Courtney, there was no room for mishaps. Duncan paced back and forth in front of the giant ancient clock in the middle of his castle. He had counted down the days and was now down to the minutes until he would be reunited with the love of his life. Duncan absolutely hated the agreement he had made with her mother, Courtney was his. She deserved to be with him but he knew how important she was to the mortal world.

No matter how Duncan thought of it, it was selfish of him to want her to himself. Courtney was too special to be locked away, her beauty had to be spread. The joy she manifested to the mortals was incredible, they loved her and they had good reason for it.

The clock struck and pulled Duncan from his thoughts. It was now midnight and she would be back home any second. He grew nervous, would she be upset this time? It was always hard for Courtney to leave, she loved what she did and she loved her mother. But she loved him more, right?

His mind stopped once he noticed the room light up, it always surprised him how beautiful she was. Pastel colors of purple, pink, and yellow were shining as Courtney appeared before him. Her colors were always of contrast with his dark colors of black, green, and blue. Brought together their colors were absolutely beautiful.

She stood before him covered in her signature flowers. They were always blooming whenever she saw him, Courtney hated that she could not control her feelings but he loved it. Duncan lifted Courtney's hand towards his mouth, placing a gentle kiss before pulling her completely against him.

"I've missed you so much." He said embracing her, how he wished he could have her around all year long.

"I missed you more." Courtney said as she got onto her tippy toes to kiss him. Duncan accepted the kiss and made it deeper. He needed her, damnit he always needed her. Courtney's flowers bloomed once again at the intensity of the kiss. It always took her a few minutes to contain herself from being away for so long.

They pulled apart and started walking down the castle's main hallway. With each step Courtney took a new flower would sprout out of the ground. She was too happy to care at the given moment, it would settle down after a good nights rest.

"How have things been while I was gone?" Courtney asked as they made their way into their bedroom. She almost knew how the answer would turn out. During her visit she noticed the ground was uneasy. Upon further expectation she realized the mortals were not themselves, there was something that stopped them from leaving their homes and enjoying the spring days that she worked hard on.

"It has been busy. Too busy I might add." Duncan noticed the death tolls were rising at an unprecedented level. What shocked him the most was that some of the mortals crossing over looked of young age. Of course it was expected sometimes but at the alarming rate he saw them he started to wonder. What had they done?

"How was it for you? It must have been boring without me and just your mother." Duncan always had to take a jab at her mother. The two never saw eye to eye, so imagine her surprise when she found out her perfect daughter was in love with him, the god of the underworld. The pair could not be more opposite. Courtney brought life into the world while he dealt with all the death it left behind.

Courtney scoffed at his comment. She knew Duncan and her mother did not get along. For the longest time they had to hide their relationship in fear of her reaction. Courtney wished the two could have a healthy relationship, she loved them both deeply.

"Must you make comments like that?" She knew she shouldn't be too angry, her mother made comments about him too. It was just late and Courtney did not want to speak about her mother at the pressing moment.

"My time away was... interesting to say the least. I barely saw anyone and the mortals seemed frightened to leave their homes." She was upset. One thing about being with her mother was that she was able to speak to the mortals. It was something that helped her get through those months without Duncan.

"I wonder what they did to piss off the big guy." Duncan shrugged. He really didn't care but he knew Courtney had a great relationship with the mortals. "Come with me." Duncan said as he opened the door to their bathroom, it was completely black but had accents of gold all around it. Duncan turned the faucet of their bathtub on and filled it with all the scents and bubbles that Courtney loved. She followed him and started to undress but Duncan stopped her.

"Let me do it." Courtney turned around and pulled her hair towards the front as Duncan undid the strings of her dress. Once everything was undone he slowly slipped the ruffled sleeves down her arms with her dress. Courtney turned to face him and stepped out of her dress that was now on the ground. She reached for his robe and undid the knot he made before he shrugged it off himself.

The two stood there completely vulnerable to one another. He admired her, she was never shy when around him. She trusted him. Courtney turned the faucet off and climbed into the tub. She sighed as she made contact with the water. It was hot and helped soothe her muscles, she loved it.

Duncan got in and sat in front of her. He watched as she started to finally relax, she was gorgeous. Her hair had gotten longer since she left, it was now down her shoulders. Her skin was still the mocha color he loved but it had a glow to it that only happened when she was excited. He tried to count every freckle on her body but that was almost impossible. He was so in love with her and he did not care what anyone thought of it.

"Come here." Duncan said, and that was all Courtney needed to hear as she smirked and made her way onto his lap. She ran her fingers through his hair leaving traces of bubbles all over it. Duncan didn't mind, he just wanted this moment to last forever. They sat there in silence for a few minutes, just taking in each others presence.

"I love you." Courtney said breaking the silence. "I love you more." Duncan replied as he moved his hand behind her head pulling her towards his lips. Courtney smiled against the kiss, she was glad to be home.
