![]() Author has written 26 stories for Doctor Who, Supernatural, and Firefly. Please review my stories! I'm looking for any feedback, good or bad. The good ones encourage me to write more, and the bad ones encourage me to write better. :D July 21st 2021 Hey. I wrote a collection of horror short stories. Which I initially wasn't going to bother you about, but I was asked about my ideal audience and I kept coming back to fans of Supernatural and Doctor Who. There are thirteen stories in this collection, each with supernatural elements and ironic twists. Each with memorable characters trying to take on a diabolical threat, or just try to survive the night. It starts off with a petty thief stealing a classic car (not an Impala, but perhaps the next-best-thing), and realizing too late that he stole a curse along with it. You'll meet Martin Edison, who takes a job in the basement file room of Morris & Tennyson despite sharing that small space with a ghost. There's Doug Chambers, who just murdered his best friend, Derek Gray. Only, the way he tells it, Derek's been dead for a week. You'll meet a Victorian adventuress investigating a noted explorer's obsession with a cactus, as well as a photographer with a knack for catching spirits and a newspaper editor cursed to know tomorrow's headline who try to rid their town of a ruthless gunslinger who can't miss. There's a lot of stuff in these stories that are going to feel right at home to fans of Supernatural, and particularly to anyone who enjoys my fan fiction. I really think you're going to like Beyond the Rail and Other Nightmares. Check it out on the Zon, or your favorite bookseller. The e-book is just $2.99. January 27th 2021 Did you miss me? Well, I missed you. Enough to put a pause on some paying gigs and finally get around to writing a new Doctor Who story: Slipstream. This is one that I pitched to Big Finish for their annual Paul Spragg Memorial Contest. In the end, it wasn't selected, but I really enjoyed this story, particularly reaching deep for the Twelfth Doctor's voice and coming up with a chunk of his unique humor as well. I hope you enjoy it. I have been busy, in case you haven't been following my website (just Google my name, you'll find it). I've now had a novel and six short stories published, all available on Amazon. I'm nearly finished with a short story collection which I am hoping to go wider with. I want Barnes and Noble to still be there when this pandemic has finished its work, and I would really love to see my book on their shelves. I'm also writing weekly Flash Fiction on my blog, so if you like my stories here, come check out my site. And while you are at it, why not join my mailing list? I plan to give away a few Advance Reader Copies of my future books, and joining my list makes you eligible. I will also send you an exclusive novella that I really think you will like. I will have more Fan Fiction in the future. Stay tuned. November 14th 2019 Have I told you about my novel? Yeah, that's right! It's up on Amazon right now with a 5 star rating so far. Okay, it's only one review, but it was unsolicited. I'd love to have you read A Shadow Stained in Blood and meet Drake Glover, Private Investigator. You probably only know me for my fan fiction, but if you've enjoyed the plot twists, the sense of humor, and the evocation of your favorite characters, trust me, you're going to love A Shadow Stained in blood. Check it out on Amazon, and don't let anyone spoil the ending for you! August 10th 2019 It's been ages since I posted last, but I've finally uploaded Nightmare on Beldora. This is a rather short Doctor Who story that I originally submitted to Big Finish for their yearly contest. Even though it is short, I'm still going to submit it in three installments, so look for part two tomorrow. I hope you enjoy. The reason I've been away so long is because I've been concentrating on career writing. I have a story in the anthology Welcome to San Cicaro up on Amazon, I'm working on a Horror short story collection of my own for release before December, and my first novel, 'A Shadow Stained in Blood' is going through final edits. If you would like to vote on the cover of this novel (a 1930s detective story set in Seattle Washington), join my mailing list! I'll send you an exclusive novella that will never be available any other way. See you tomorrow for part two! February 6th 2019 It's that time of year again! An icy wind is blowing, presidents are having birthdays that mattress stores celebrate for some reason, and the Supernatural Convention is coming to Seattle again! So, for the third year running, I have an episode of Supernatural fan fiction for you. I'm releasing one chapter per day leading up to the Convention (as of the time of this writing I just uploaded chapter two) for a three act story starring Sam and Dean Winchester. I hope you enjoy it. And if you do like it, consider joining my email list at theichabodebenezer-dot-com. I'll send you a spine-chilling novella that will be right up any Supernatural fan's alley. After that, I'll send you email when my novel is ready! Which will be soon. I promise. Oh, and my Eighth Doctor/Lucy Miller story is still coming soon, just a little less soon than I promised last month. Sam and Dean reminded me what time it was. January 9th 2019 Happy New Year, everyone! I will soon be releasing another Doctor Who short story that I originally submitted to the Paul Spragg contest on BigFinish-dot-com: Nightmare on Beldora. It's an Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller story that I'm pretty proud of. In the meantime, I've written a novella which is exclusively available for free through my site. It's about a young woman named Emily Singer, putting herself through college by passing along messages from the dead. Check it out on theichabodebenezer-dot-com. October 9th 2018 It's been a while since I submitted here, but I have been very active. I won the Summer Writing Contest on ShortFictionBreak, and I've submitted short stories to multiple publications. I'm proud to announce one of them has been accepted. I'll say more here when I can. But today I've uploaded 'The Beast of Darnak 9'--one of my submissions to the BigFinish Paul Spragg Memorial Contest. I got a very encouraging letter from them saying that it got to the final round of consideration, but in the end was rejected. I figure that means it's okay to publish here. Also, my novel is going through final edits in October and November, and I'm looking to have it published right around January 1st. If you've enjoyed my stories here, it would mean a lot to me if you pre-ordered it. I will have more news soon about that, and an exclusive free novella for anyone who joins my mailing list. Please don't worry that "going pro" will mean that I'm done here. I'm well invested in multiple fandoms, and I've got many stories to tell in their worlds. As always, thanks for reading! April 10th 2018 I've entered the Spring Writing Contest up on ShortFictionBreak dot com. It's called 'The Ritual', and it's up for a Readers' Choice Award. So, if you're into demon summoning, or at least short stories about it, please give it a read and a vote. At just under 1500 words, it won't take more than a few minutes of your time. There are a few hundred other entrants though, so you could get stuck there for the day if you're not careful! March 20th 2018 In three days, the Supernatural Convention comes to Seattle (Well, Bellevue, but close enough), and so I will once again be putting out a new Supernatural story in celebration. I will be publishing it in three chapters, one per night starting tonight, leading up to the convention. I won't be there this year, so say hi to Rachel Miner for me. But in the meantime, put on some Hendrix, kick back, and enjoy 'Hear My Train a Comin'. P.S. If you notice a reference to an enemy that isn't yet in the series, first of all, well spotted! But also, that's pointing at the fact that both this story and the previous one, 'The Memphis Blues' are part of a series I have yet to write, with its own story arc and big bad, set sometime after season 13. Check back here for more info this Summer. March 4th 2018 I met Summer Glau today (See updated profile picture). How was your day? January 4th 2018 I hope you're all enjoying 2018 so far. I was busy over my Winter break. I've published my long promised Firefly story, and I've started to publish my Fourth Doctor story, 'All of Space and Time'. I'll have chapters two and three published over the next couple days, completing the story. I originally submitted this story to Big Finish as part of their Paul Spragg Memorial Contest. If you haven't checked out the winner yet, it's up there, it's free, and it's great. If you're having trouble finding it, I linked to it from my website. And speaking of my website, I've updated it. There are links now to all my social media accounts, as well as a list of the books I'm currently reading. I've made a resolution to blog seriously, so I'll be updating weekly. Lastly, I've got an opt-in form for an email list. I'm working on a novel, to be published later this year, and if you are interested in being notified when it will be available, please sign up. I won't be spamming anything. Other than a confirmation mail, you won't get anything until I have a book for you to read. This site strips out links to other sites, so if you google Ichabod Ebenezer writer, it should come up as the first result. If in doubt, I'm The Ichabod Ebenezer. December 25th 2017 Merry Christmas to all. It's been a very full year, and I have every reason to suspect that next year will be very busy as well. I wish you all peace. October 30th 2017 A couple notes. First off, sorry for the length of this chapter. With all the threads I'd set up, so much had to be concluded in this chapter. I could easily have stretched it out into four chapters, but I wanted to stick to my promise and have this done by Halloween. Secondly, that's it. A complete series of Doctor Who, start to finish. Please tell me what you think. I'm pretty happy with this story. It was a big one with a lot of elements from both Classic and New Who and (SPOILERS: another Doctor thrown into the mix), but I feel like I did the setting justice, and I hope you like it too. Goodbye, Nth Doctor and Pandora. There will be those who will be upset that I didn't wrap up one particular thread that started in Episode 1, and continued on all the way through 12. I'll tell you why this is. When I first started plotting out the series, I got more and more excited about it, and I felt like I had something good. I thought there was a good chance that this would be wildly popular, and I would follow up with a second series, so I added this plot thread which was meant to lead into that. (Actually, there was another thread that was a little less obvious, and it's been a few stories since I brought it up, but that would have come back in Series II also.) But there wasn't an overwhelming response and Series II got cancelled. I considered bringing in that plot thread and resolving it in Series I, but there was no way to do it justice, and all those other stories, all those other plots that I'd outlined back at the beginning would have suffered. So, let me tell you what I'm going to do. Not soon, but someday, say, within the next year, I will come back to these characters and write a one off. It will be a big story, and will resolve both those threads. It will be a true end to this story line (I'm not promising to kill my Doctor off or anything, but it will wrap up the dangling threads). But that's later. I'm going to be off-schedule for a while. I'm going to do a lot more reading, and a lot more work on my novel (just in time for NaNoWriMo!). I'll finish up my long promised Firefly one-off, and I'll publish the Fourth Doctor story that I submitted to Big Finish. My next big project will be a season of Supernatural, but I won't be starting that right away, and I don't think I'll be killing myself schedule-wise when I do. Cheers and well wishes, -Ichabod. October 12th 2017 Author's Note, for those still reading The Droge of Gabrielides: I always do my best to stick to the feel of the show that I'm working from, and true to form, I remain within the K rating so that my writing can be enjoyed any who watch the show. That being said, in my mind, the droge has a truly filthy mouth. Her dialog would come to me one way, and I would have to tone it waaaaay down, because after all, this is Doctor Who. So, if you are so inclined, and you feel it would increase your enjoyment of the story, whenever she hints at cursing, replace that with the most disgusting (but fitting) epithet you can imagine. Something that would make a Clegane blush. But only if that's your thing. Oh, also, she spoke to me in an American accent, if that's important to you. This Sunday I will publish the first chapter of the last story of the series. It's a big one, combining elements of classic Who with the best bits of new Who. I'm excited for this one. September 23rd 2017 My day job has me working sixteen hour days, including weekends. I'm a lot further along this time, but I'm afraid I'm going to miss another week. The truly amazing thing, I guess, is that I was able to keep a weekly schedule for so long with as stressful a job as I have. Look forward to the conclusion to The Droge of Gabrielides next Sunday September 30th, Then in October, it will be the Series Finale with Episode 12. The title contains spoilers. September 10th 2017 It's been a rough week, with all aspects of my Earthly experience sort of imploding. I'm not going to make my weekly story contribution this week, and I'm not so sure about next week either. I'll do my best to get back on track after that. I'm sorry to disappoint. July 18th 2017 Tonight, Science channel has an episode of 'Unearthed' about China's First Emperor and the Terracotta Army! Everyone ought to watch that, and see if it proves what I said happened didn't. First person to find a fact from the show (not conjecture) that directly contradicts something I wrote, gets a character named after them in my 12th episode! No, no Poopy McPoopface's accepted... June 25th 2017 I'm too tired to finish this up right now. The story is done, but it needs editing. I will upload the story tomorrow night (Monday). Sorry about the delay, just in case anyone was waiting up on it. June 11th 2017 Okay, forget what I said last time. I got my computer working again, and managed to retrieve my notes and apps and everything. I got my research done, and managed to write up chapter 1. Sure, it might not have gotten quite as much editing as I'd like, but a wiser man than I once wrote, "Art is never completed, just abandoned." It may be hubris to call what I do 'art', but there's truth in what he said. I could edit this stuff forever, it will always need one more. Anyway, I'm putting it out there. The title got a change though. I wrote 'Kingdom', but I meant 'Empire', and I've decided not to try to obfuscate things. I'm sure you knew what the Unblinking Eye referred to, and it's going to say there are Weeping Angels in it, so the title is just, 'Empire of the Angels'. I'm really proud of my crappy GIMP skills on the thumbnail too. It says everything it needs to. Let me know what you think. June 1st 2017 Disaster has struck. First-world disaster, anyway. My computer is belly up, so I'm not doing any writing at the moment. I'm supposed to be working this week on the research, characterization and outline for my next Nth Doctor story, (tentatively titled) 'Kingdom of the Unblinking Eye', but the last three days have been shot. I hope to catch up, with a newly repaired laptop, this weekend, but I'm probably going to take an extra week on preparation, and publish chapter one the week after that. We'll see. Also, 'The Terror of the Krynoid' was released on time, but turned out really long. Please don't let that dissuade you from reading it. Chapters two and especially three are action-packed, and I think it reads quickly. So, if you haven't read it yet, it features a classic-era monster given a new-Who remodel. I feel like it works well. Give that a read, and before you know it, I'll have a chapter of my new story up for your consideration. Thank you to all who have been reviewing, especially lately. The feedback and advice are greatly appreciated. You help make me a better writer. April 10th 2017 Thank you to everyone who came by and said hello, and to those who took pictures with me during the convention. It was a fantastic show, and you all made my day. I'd love to get a copy of the photos you took. If you've got one to share, please pm me for my email address! Thanks. Also, it looks like my Supernatural story went over well. Once I'm finished with my Doctor Who season, I think I'll start scripting a Supernatural season. Those are twice as long as a season of Doctor Who, with an over-arching story interspersed with several one-off episodes and possibly a meta-episode. I will take the time to do it the justice it deserves. Look for it next year! April 3rd 2017 This is it! The Supernatural Convention comes to Seattle In honor of this event, I'm releasing a new fan fiction; an episode of Supernatural, in three acts. I'll publish one each day between now and the convention, so one tomorrow, one Wednesday night, and one Thursday. Read on and get hyped up for an awesome show. I hope to see lots of you there! March 12th 2017 Well, I'm back! My time away from writing fan fiction has been productive. I got a good start on my novel, I caught up on a lot of reading, and I wrote a first draft for three pieces of fan fiction in other fandoms. One for Supernatural, which I intend to release in three parts just before the Supernatural Convention comes to Seattle, one for Doctor Who that I intend to submit to Big Finish's annual contest this year, and one for Firefly that I will release as time permits. The important part is not messing up my monthly schedule of regular updates. Oh, I also spun up my website! It's in the early stages, but I've links to all my fiction, and infrequent blog posts. Take a look at theichabodebenezer dot com. Leave me a note! Also back, is the Nth Doctor. This is kind of a different story, less action oriented and a lot more story and character driven. I don't know if people are going to like it best, or absolutely hate it. I guess we'll see. I also like to stick to about five thousand words per chapter, with each chapter being one act of a three act episode for fifteen thousand words total, or thereabouts. This story is a fair deal shorter than the rest, but hopefully there's enough visual imagery to justify a full episode nonetheless. Be sure to comment if you feel it needed more of something. If you're caught up reading the first six stories in this series, you can skip this paragraph recap. We've got a new Doctor, regenerated under tragic circumstances that caused him to question why he does what he does, and who he even is. There's an over-arching story here about the Doctor's own character development, and in the process he's picked up a companion, Pandora. She's a seventeen year old kid, living on the streets of London. She's smart and savvy, and she's built up a network of friends to protect herself by testing people with three questions. When she first meets the Doctor, she thinks he is pretty messed up and that she be might be able to help him. Over the course of those six stories, he finds out enough about her to reconnect her with her mother. As this story begins, Pandora has left to see her mother just as the Doctor has regained access to his Tardis, and he leaves with another street kid, one who didn't pass Pandora's test, though the Doctor doesn't know that. So, what happens when the Doctor accepts the wrong companion in his excitement to be traveling again? And what happens when the Doctor is tempted to go too far, and instead of keeping him grounded, his companion pushes him on? Read up to find out, and be sure to leave me a comment, whether you love it or hate it. January 26th 2017 Rest in peace, John Hurt. Thank you for your many years of entertainment and brilliant characterization. I deeply enjoyed your play. Previous postings were replaced as I added new ones. Here's the last from November 2016. If I ever give my real name at Starbucks, there are usually five other guys reaching for my coffee, so I go with either Ichabod or Ebenezer. Now the coffee is all mine. Cliffhanger much? Sorry about that, but I'll resolve it in the next story. Of course I'm planning on doing it again there. I don't intend to make a habit of it however. Actually, I thought I'd let you know that my 'one episode/story a month' has been tough. I'm glad I forced myself to stick to this schedule, and on the whole I'm happy with the results, but there have been downsides. I haven't had the time to properly edit these stories, and I'll admit that parts could use a bit of whiteout. Also, I've been planning to do some original work and release it on Kindle, but I never have time for it, because if I have spare time between family commitments and work, I'm writing a series of Doctor Who. So, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to write and release Episode 6, Bastion of the Rutan on schedule in December (Christmas Special, yeah!), then I'm going to take a bit of time to work on my novel. I'll come back here and release the other six episodes, and at the moment I plan on doing them once a month, but I probably won't start back up until March. I want this novel out the door in 2017, so, my Fan Fiction will have to pay the price. Lest you think I have run out of ideas, or don't know what the plan is for part two of my series, there's going to be a good mix of classic monsters and new series creatures, including the Krynoid, the Ood, the Weeping Angels and The Droge of Gabrielides (that one's big, might end up a two-parter), plus some original enemies and in episode 12, a visit to a planet that would be very familiar to fans of one of the first few Doctors (Spoilers...). My other stories want out of my head as well, of course. And at some point I'll let them. A Harry Potter drabble or two, a Supernatural episode that would be great to do before the Seattle convention in April, and a long-promised Firefly episode. As always, thanks for reading. -Ichabod Ebenezer. |
