The car ride was quiet since Brie and T Dog told the group about the incident on the roof with Merle. Morales was the first to break the tension "Best not to dwell on it. Merle got left behind. Nobody's gonna be sad he didn't come back… Except maybe Daryl"
"Daryl?" Rick questioned, Brie looked up when she heard the name. Oh god does Merle have a brother. This ain't gonna be good she thought.
"His brother"
Behind them, the group hears Glenn in his car. "Whoo-hoo" Glenn speeds past them and continues to holler about how much fun he's having
"At least somebody's having a good day." Brie watches Glenn before resting her head again the car door.
Back at camp Lori is giving Carl a haircut "Baby, the more you fidget, the longer it takes. So don't, okay?"
"I'm trying" Carl says trying to sit still as his mom is cutting his hair.
"If you think this is bad, wait till you start shaving. That stings. That day comes, you'll be wishing for one of your mama's haircuts" Shane says as he makes Lori smile.
"I'll believe that when I see it" Carl says, still not believing Shane who is trying to make the situation better.
Shane chuckles "I'll tell you what, you just get through this with some manly dignity and tomorrow I'll teach you something special. I will teach you to catch frogs"
"I've caught a frog before" Carl folds his arms as he doesn't think that is a fair offer.
"I said frogs, plural. And it is an art, my friend. It is not to be taken lightly. There are ways and means. Few people know about it. I'm willing to share my secrets" Carl looks at Lori unsure of what to say "It's a one-time offer, bud not to be repeated.
"Why do we need frogs, plural?"
"You ever eat frog legs?" Shane asks as Carl's face shrivels in disgust "No, yum! When you get down to that last can of beans, you're gonna be loving those frog legs. I can see it now" Shane continues on trying to talk like Carl "Shane, do you think I could have a second helping, please? Please? Just one?"
"Yeah, I doubt that" Lori joins the conversation as she finishes off cutting Carl's hair as Shane chuckles.
"Don't listen to her, man. You and me, we'll be heroes. We'll feed these folks cajun-style Kermit legs"
"I would rather eat miss piggy" Lori's eyes widened "Yes, that came out wrong" Shane laughs. The conversation is interrupted with the beeping of Glenn's car alarm.
"Hey, Dale, can you see what that is?" A man shouted from camp as everyone was now on alert.
Shane brings a radio to his lips "Talk to me, Dale!"
"Is it them? Are they back?" Amy asks as she tries to get a better view. She was hoping her sister was there with the group.
"I'll be damned" Dale says as he on top of the trailer, looking through some binoculars. What is it, someone shouted, waiting for Dale's answer "A stolen car is my guess" Glenn pulls in and says hello "Holy crap. Turn that damn thing off!"
"I don't know how!" Glenn says starting to panic as he couldn't find the switch
"Pop the damn hood!"
Amy runs over to Glenn "Is Andrea with you? Is she all right?"
He pops the hood so Shane can disconnect the battery to turn the alarm off "She's okay! She's okay!"
Amy sighs in relief, she finally knows where her sister is and that she is okay "Is she coming back?" Glenn nods "Why isn't she with you? Where is she? She's okay?"
"Yes! Yeah, fine. Everybody is. Well, Merle not so much"
Shane storms up "Are you crazy, driving this wailing bastard up here? Are you trying to draw every Walker for miles?"
Dale looks about and the coast is clear "I think we're okay."
Shane looks up at Dale "You call being stupid okay?"
"Well, the alarm was echoing all over these hills. Hard to pinpoint the source. I'm not arguing. I'm just saying. It wouldn't hurt you to think things through a little more carefully next time, would it?" Dale says looking at a careless Glenn.
Glenn puts his hands up "Sorry. Got a cool car" The group sees the truck arrive.
"Come meet everyone" Morales says as he gets out the truck. Brie and Rick look at each other before she gets out the truck. "You ready?" She asks as she gets a nod in return.
Brie gets out the truck along with Andrea and see's Amy "Andrea!" Andrea runs up to Amy and the two sisters hug. Now Brie could put a face to a name now. She watches on as Andrea starts to tear up and she grips ahold of her sister, not wanting to let her go.
"Oh my god! You scared the shit out of me" Amy says holding onto her sister tightly.
Morales gets out of the truck and his wife and children runs up to him "Papi! Daddy!"
Brie turns around and see's Morales picking up his daughter "Hey. Come here, sweetie." giving her a kiss on the cheek as his wife and son hug him "Hey. I told you I'd be back, didn't I?"
Carl is still sad and we can see that he wishes that Rick would come back when the groups return. Brie looks over at Carl, he looks familiar for some reason. Then she remembers that he's Rick's son. She couldn't believe her eyes, Rick was going to so happy to be reunited with his family.
"How'd y'all get out of there anyway?" Shane walks up as he has an eye on Brie wondering who she is and then looks at Glenn.
"New guy and girl they got us out" Glenn points over towards Brie who shares a look with Shane, Shane gives her a nod of acknowledgement. T Dogg walks up to Brie and puts an arm around her shoulder. Shane looks down thinking she must be T Dogg's wife.
"New guy?" Shane looks back at Glenn, as he couldn't see where the guy he was talking about.
"Yeah, crazy Vato just got into town" Morales looks over at the truck and calls for Rick to come out "Hey, helicopter boy! Come say hello" Rick gets out of the truck. "The guy's a cop like you" Rick walks up and Shane is the first to see him. Carl and Lori then turn over and he sees Rick. Rick also sees Carl and Lori.
"oh my god" Carl and Lori run up to Rick.
"Dad! Dad!" Rick takes Carl in his arms, crying. Watching on, Brie feels a tear slowly rolling down her cheek when she watches her newly acquainted friend reunite with his son.
"Carl" He kisses Carl on the cheek and approaches Lori. He hugs them both. Shane is surprised to see Rick, he didn't think Rick was still alive. Rick smiles at him and Shane smiles back as Rick walks up to him and he embrace each other, patting each other on the back.
Later on that night, the group are around the campfire, going over a plan on what they should tell Daryl about his brother. "Have you given any thought to Daryl Dixon? He won't be happy to hear his brother was left behind"
"I'll tell him. I dropped the key. It's on me" T Dog owns up to his mistake.
"I cuffed him. That makes it mine" Rick says as he knew if he hadn't cuffed Merle he would be at camp.
"Guys, it's not a competition. I don't mean to bring race into this, but it might sound better coming from a white guy"
"I did what I did. Hell if I'm gonna hide from him"
"We could lie" Amy puts her input in.
Brie shakes her head "Or tell the truth. Merle was out of control. Something had to be done or he'd have gotten us killed. Rick did what was necessary. And if Merle got left behind, it is nobody's fault but Merle's"
"And that's what we tell Daryl? I don't see a rational discussion to be had from that, do you? Word to the wise… We're gonna have our hands full when he gets back from his hunt" Dale warns Brie and Rick who haven't met Daryl yet and now probably don't want to.
"I was scared and I ran. I'm not ashamed of it" T Dog puts his hands up to the group, knowing what he did was wrong but he wanted out of there.
Brie puts a hand on T Dog's shoulder, hint of comfort. Shane notices their exchange as Brie still has her hand on her brother's shoulder. He looks down feeling something he shouldn't as he doesn't even know the girl. He looks up when she starts speaking "We were all scared. We all ran. I stopped long enough to chain that door. Staircase is narrow. Maybe half a dozen walkers can squeeze against it at any one time. It's not enough to break through. Not that chain, not that padlock. My point is that Dixon's alive and he's still up there, handcuffed on that roof. That's on us"
Later Brie went for a walk around camp to get herself familiarised with everything, she saw one tent that had a light on she slowly walked over to it and over heard a conversation between Rick and his family. She heard a familiar voice who belonged to Rick "I found you, didn't I?" She couldn't help but smile at this, she knew he would find his family sooner or later "I love you, dad" she knew this was Carl's voice "I love you, Carl" Rick kisses Carl goodnight and then joins Lori on the other side of the tent. Rick kneels down and passionately kisses Lori. Rick then lies next to Lori "I found you both" Brie looked away as she didn't want to watch Lori and Rick have reunion sex so she stood up and walked off to her tent that she now shares with T Dogg.
Shane was up on the RV as he watched Brie walk away from Rick's tent and into her own that she now shares with T Dogg.
The next morning, Brie wakes up and see's T Dogg isn't in the tent. She sits up and stretches before she gets up and goes look for her brother. Outside the tent everything seems fine, looks like normal life to her expect the camping in the woods bit. "Morning" she says as she walks passed Carol who she hasn't met. She found Carol folding some washing that she must of done earlier that morning.
Carol gives her a smile "Morning" she grabs some of Brie's clothes and passes them to her "They're still a little damp. The sun'll have 'em dry in no time"
Brie looks up from her clothes which are now in her hand "You washed my clothes?"
"Well, best we could. Scrubbing on a washboard ain't half as good as my old maytag back home" Carol says as she continues to fold clothes on the table.
Brie smiles at her "That's very kind. Thank you but where did you get these?"
"Your brother gave me them this morning, thought what you've been through you might enjoy some clean clothes" Carol shrugged "He must of packed you some before you got separated"
Brie nods "I'm Brie by the way" she introduced as she put forward her hand waiting for Carol to shake it.
Carol looked hesitated at first but she looked up at Brie's smiling face, she knew she was going to mean no harm to her, she raised her own hand and met Brie's half way "I'm Carol" she looked over at her daughter who was sitting on the grass playing with Carl "That's Sophia, she's my daughter"
Brie looked over at Sophia and Carl who were play fighting on the field "She is beautiful" She looks back at Carol "Can see where she gets her good looks" Brie playfully nudged Carol, who suddenly blushed. She could see Carol who busy and she didn't want to take anymore of her time "We'll I'll leave you to it, don't wanna be holding you up" she raises her hand with her clothes in it "Thanks again" she smiles at Carol once more before going back to her tent to put her freshly washed clothes again.
Once Brie puts her clothes away she approaches Glenn who is visibly upset that Dale has torn apart some of the spare parts on the car that he brought in "Look at 'em. Vultures. Yeah, go on, strip it clean" he called out at Dale who was still tearing parts of Glenn's car. She could see Glenn was upset and she rubbed her back trying to comfort him "Thought I'd get to drive it at least a few more days"
"You never know maybe we'll get to steal another one someday" Brie said as she trying to make Glenn feel better but didn't look like it was working "I wouldn't stand there and watch, just gonna hurt more" she pats his back before seeing her brother sitting on the log himself.
"Hey you" Brie greeted as she sat down next to her brother "How you feeling today?"
T Dogg glances at his sister "Better now that I have you back in my life. God Brie it's been hell the past few days, didn't know what to do with myself"
"I know" Brie said as she nodded "It's been hard for me too. I didn't know if I was going to ever see you again"
T Dogg looks over at Rick who was talking to Lori "Least you weren't alone"
Brie looks in the same direction "If it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't be here right now"
T Dogg groans "Please don't say that"
Brie chuckles a little "No, being serious. Rick saved me when I crashed my car. He was the one who got me out before walkers got a hold of me. Should be thanking him"
"You were in a car crash" T Dogg looked in disbelief, he frantically had a look over Brie's looking for any scratches or scars.
"I am fine Brie, stop obsessing" she said pushing T Dogg's hand away "Just a few cuts and bruises but I'll live"
Suddenly, the group hears screaming
"Mom!" Carl called out into the woods.
"Carl?" Lori called back as everyone starts to race down to the screaming. "Baby!"
"Carl!" Rick grabs a pole and runs down to the site.
"Over here, boy! Come on, come on!"
"Carl! Baby! You're okay?" Lori kneels down and hugs him as she looks up at Rick "I've got him. I've got him" She frantically checks over her son "Nothing bit you? Nothing scratched you?"
Carl shakes his head "No, I'm okay" The group comes upon a Walker that is busy eating the carcass of a deer. Jacqui and Amy come up and notice how disgusting it is. When the Walker sees them, it starts to turn on them. Rick, Shane, Glenn, Jim, and Morales start to beat on it with their objects.
Dale finishes it off by chopping its head off with an axe. Dale is shocked "It's the first one we've had up here. They never come this far up the mountain"
"Well, they're running out of food in the city, that's what" They hear branch snapping and footsteps. Daryl Dixon comes out of the forest and seems very upset that the Walker.
"Oh, Jesus" Shane mumbles as he turns around to Rick, giving him a look that, that's Daryl.
"Son of a bitch. That's my deer! Look at it" "All gnawed on by this filthy, disease-bearing, motherless poxy bastard!" He kicks the carcass of the Walker
"Calm down, son. That's not helping" Dale says trying to calm the situation.
Daryl walks up to Dale and gets in his face "What do you know about it, old man? Why don't you take that stupid hat and go back to "on golden pond"?" He turns around looking back down at the deer and begins to take out his arrows from the deers carcass "I've been tracking this deer for miles. Gonna drag it back to camp, cook us up some venison. What do you think?" He points towards the part of the deer thats been torn to bits "Do you think we can cut around this chewed up part right here?"
Shane shakes his head "I would not risk that" leaning his gun on both his shoulders. Brie watched him as she thought he looked hot standing like that.
Daryl sighs "That's a damn shame. I got some squirrel about a dozen or so. That'll have to do" Suddenly, the head of the Walker starts to move its teeth. "Come on, people. What the hell? It's gotta be the brain. Don't y'all know nothing?"
Before he can shoot it, Brie beats him to it. Everyone looks up at her. "What?" She says as she can see everyones attention is turned on her "It's basic survival skills" she says as she puts her gun back in her pocket.
"She got the right idea" Daryl says as he leans his bow and arrow on his shoulder. "Merle! Merle! Get your ugly ass out here! I got us some squirrel! Let's stew 'em up" Daryl says as he starts into the camp with everyone following him.
Shane catches up to him "Daryl, just slow up a bit. I need to talk to you"
Daryl turns to face Shane. "About what?"
"About Merle. There was a… There was a problem in Atlanta" Shane said trying to word the situation a little better than what is was.
"He dead?" Shane shrugs his shoulders "He either is or he ain't!"
"No easy way to say this, so I'll just say it" Rick says stepping forward towards
"Who are you?" Daryl asks looking him up and down.
"Rick grimes" Rick introduces.
"Rick grimes, you got something you want to tell me?"
"Your brother was a danger to us all, so I handcuffed him on a roof, hooked him to a piece of metal. He's still there" T Dog walks up to the group with a couple of logs in his hand.
Daryl turns his back and walks a few steps forwards before turning back towards Rick "Hold on. Let me process this. You're saying you handcuffed my brother to a roof and you left him there?!" Brie has her hands folded as she watched on as Daryl starts shouting at Rick, this ain't gonna be good.
"Yeah" Daryl throws the bag of squirrels at Rick who ducks before Daryl goes to attack him, but Rick shoves him off.
T Dog throws the logs onto the group and walks up to the fight "Hey! Watch the knife!"
Daryl pulls his knife out, but Shane is able to come up behind him and put him in a chokehold. "You'd best let me go!" Daryl exclaims as he struggles out of Shane's hold as Rick grabs a hold of the knife in Daryl's hand and throws it out of reach.
"Nah, I think it's better if I don't" Shane says as he continues his hold on Daryl
"Choke hold's illegal" Daryl says getting worn down
"You can file a complaint. Come on, man." Daryl still trying to struggle out of Shane's grip "We'll keep this up all day"
Rick kneels in front of Daryl who is now on the ground "I'd like to have a calm discussion on this topic. Do you think we can manage that? Do you think we can manage that?"
Shane grips is tight around Daryl, waiting for his answer "Hmm?"
"Mmm Yeah" Daryl gives in as Shane lets him go.
Rick kneels closer to Daryl who is trying to catch his breath "What I did was not on a whim. Your brother does not work and play well with others"
"It's not Rick's fault" T Dog stepped forward as Daryl and Rick's attention fell on him "I had the key. I dropped it"
"You couldn't pick it up?" Daryl argued as he was still sat on the ground.
"Well, I dropped it in a drain" he said as if he was stating the obvious.
Daryl sighs as he looks down resting his head on the ground before slowly picking himself up from off the ground "If it's supposed to make me feel better, it don't"
Brie steps forward next to T Dog "Well, maybe this will. Look, I tried to reach for the key but it was too far down to grab it so I chained the door to the roof so the walkers couldn't get at him with a padlock. It's gotta count for something"
Daryl looks at Brie as he face softened a bit until he looked at T Dog and his face became angry again "Hell with all y'all! Just tell me where he is so that I can go get him" Daryl says as he grabs his bow.
Later, Rick gets his police uniform on. He had agreed earlier to help Daryl go back for Merle. He walks past Shane. "So that's it, huh? You're just gonna walk off? Just to hell with everybody else? Could you throw me a bone here, man? Could you just tell me why? Why would you risk your life for a douche bag like Merle Dixon?"
"Hey" Daryl exclaimed. "Choose your words more carefully"
Shane puts his hands on his hips "No, I did. Douche bag's what I meant" Brie smirked as she listens in on their conversation. Shane looks back at Rick "Merle Dixon…The guy wouldn't give you a glass of water if you were dying of thirst"
"What he would or wouldn't do doesn't interest me. I can't let a man die of thirst and exposure. We left him like an animal caught in a trap. That's no way for anything to die, let alone a human being"
"So you and Daryl, that's your big plan?" Brie walks up to Rick and Shane with her hands folded.
"Oh, come on" Rick turns to Glenn and Glenn is upset.
"You know the way. You've been there before. In and out, no problem. You said so yourself. It's not fair of me to ask I know that, but I'd feel a lot better with you along"
"That's just great. Now you're gonna risk three men, huh?"
"Four" T Dog volunteers.
Daryl huffs "My day just gets better and better, don't it?"
"You see anybody else here stepping up to save your brother's cracker ass?"
"That's four" Dale counts as Shane is still looking pissed off.
"Five" Brie says as she puts her gun in her back pocket. Daryl looks at her, why would she want to come help rescue his brother.
"Sorry doll but your nothing more than just a pretty face. What help would you be? You'd only slow us down" Daryl says as he plays about with his arrows.
Brie steps forward but Rick holds her back "She's a good shot, she will help us take some walkers down. Got a problem with that? Do you want us to rescue your brother? I would advise you to shut your mouth then"
"I'm sorry no! It's not just four or five. You're putting every single one of us at risk. Just know that, Rick. Come on, you saw that Walker. It was here. It was in camp. They're moving out of the cities. They come back, we need every able body we've got. We need 'em here. We need 'em to protect camp"
Brie looks at Shane "It seems to me what you really need most here are more guns"
"Wait. What guns?" Shane says looking more intrigued
"Six shotguns, two high-powered rifles, over a dozen handguns. I cleaned out the cage back at the station before I left. Rick dropped the bag in Atlanta when I got swarmed. It's just sitting there on the street, waiting to be picked up"
"Ammo?"
"700 rounds, assorted" Brie replies back
Lori walks up to Rick "You went through hell to find us. You just got here and you're gonna turn around and leave?"
"Dad, I don't want you to go" Carl pleads, Brie could see Carl doesn't want to lose his dad again.
"To hell with the guns. Shane is right. Merle Dixon? He's not worth one of your lives, even with guns thrown in. Tell me. Make me understand"
"I owe a debt to a man I met and his little boy. Lori, if they hadn't taken me or Brie in, we'd have died" Lori looked at Brie, she didn't know that Brie was with Rick all this time. It made Lori dislike Brie as she was spending time with her husband while she was out here, not knowing that he was alive "It's because of them that we made it back to you at all. They said they'd follow us to Atlanta. They'll walk into the same trap I did if I don't warn him" Lori slowly nods her head knowing
Shane gives in "Fine you's go. But Brie stays here" Brie turns to Shane, with a look on her face "You said it yourself, Brie is a good shot. So if your taking 3 other men with you then she stays here. We will need all the help we can get to protect camp" Shane could see Brie's face dropped when he volunteered her to stay but he didn't want her at risk of getting hurt on their mission to bring back Merle. He would feel better if she was at camp where he can keep an eye her on her.
Daryl watches on as Rick thinks about Shane proposal. He kinda wanted Brie to come along but at the same time what he thought of her still stood. Just a pretty face. Yeah she dealt with the walker like a pro but what would she be like with hundreds of walkers. She would become the bride of Chucky quicker than it takes her to wait for her nails to dry after she's painted them. Daryl stands up and walks towards Shane, Rick and Brie "Brie stays" Daryl says as he looks down at her, what was his problem with her.
