Andrea keeps vigil over the body of her dead sister Amy. Brie walks over and bends down in front of her "Andrea. I'm so sorry. She's gone. You got to let us take her. I promise we'll be as gentle as we can"
The survivors of the attack start to clean up, burning the walker bodies and burying the dead from their group. Daryl swings at dead walkers heads with a pickaxe as Glenn and T-Dog throw bodies in a fire.
Brie looks at Andrea trying to get an answer from her. She sighs "I know its hard losing a loved one but we need to bury her" she watches as Andrea is still not answering. She gives up and walks over to Rick who was watching over them.
"She still won't move?"
Brie shakes her head "She won't even talk to us. She's been there all night. What do we do?" Brie asks as she was starting to worry about how this is going to affect Andrea.
"Can't just leave Amy like that. We need to deal with it same as the others" Shane walks over as he listened into the conversation.
Rick nods as he agrees with Shane "I'll tell her how it is" Rick tries to approach Andrea but she pulls a gun on him. Brie jolts forward and was about to pull her gun out as she watched on thinking Andrea was going to pull the trigger on Rick.
"I know how the safety works" Andrea glares up at Rick. He apologises as backs off back to the group.
Daryl had watched at Andreas confrontation towards Rick "Y'all can't be serious. Let that girl hamstring us? The dead girl's a time bomb"
"What do you suggest?" Rick asked as he opened up to any suggestions that the rest of the group had.
Daryl shrugs his shoulders "Take the shot. Clean, in the brain from here. Hell, I can hit a turkey between the eyes from this distance"
"No. For God's sakes, let her be" Lori sat down with a sigh and Brie shook her head at Daryl. Rick and Shane exchanged head nods and Daryl scoffed. Brie watched Daryl help out with bodies, Glenn was helping out too, clearly upset. They yelled as Brie rolled her eyes and walked up next to Glenn.
"What are you guys doing? This is for geeks. Our people go over there" Glenn points over to a tree.
Daryl shrugs his shoulders "What's the difference? They're all infected"
"Our people go in that row over there. We don't burn them! We bury them. Understand? Our people go in that row over there" Daryl and Morales drag the body toward the digging hole.
Daryl got pissed off "Y'all left my brother for dead. You had this coming"
"Hey!" Brie was getting annoyed at Daryl "No one deserves this! If anyone had it coming it was Merle. Its not our fault he wasn't up there when you's went to get him. He got off the roof himself so if he is dead, it's not on our hands"
Before Daryl could respond, they all heard Jacqui yelling "A walker got him. A walker bit Jim" Jacqui pointed towards Jim. Everyone circled Jim, with worrying eyes.
"Show it to us." Daryl quickly jumped into the circle and yelled at him. "Show it to us!"
Jim grabbed the shovel as Brie motioned T-Dog to grab him. "It's okay. Just you have to show it to us. Put the shovel down." Brie said trying to calm the situation down.
"Put it down!" Daryl started yelling as T-Dog grabbed Jim causing him to drop it anyway.
"I'm okay. I'm okay. I'm okay. I'm okay." Jim was trying to convince himself. Brie approached slowly, while Daryl just walked up and checked him. A fresh bite wound was on his upper abdomen. "I'm okay. I'm okay. I'm okay. I'm okay."
Later on Brie walked up on the conversation that was happening a few yards away from Jim. He was at hearing distance as he was listening to the groups decision on what to do with him.
"I say we put a pickaxe in his head and the dead girl's and be done with it" Brie rolls her eyes at Daryl's comment. All she seems to do is roll her eyes at Daryl.
"Is that what you'd want? If it were you." Shane glared at Daryl, trying to understand.
"Yeah, and I'd thank you while you did it."
"I hate to say it, I never thought I would but, maybe Daryl's right." Dale agreed and Rick stopped them.
"Jim's not a monster or some rabid dog. He's sick. A sick man. We aren't going down that road. Where do we draw that line?" Rick looked at Dale.
"Zero tolerance for walkers. Or for them to be." Daryl was firm on this one.
"What if we can get him help? Brie heard the C.D.C was working on a cure." Rick explained and Brie chuckled.
"Who didn't hear that? We heard a lot of things before the world went to hell." Brie shook her head half hoping he wasn't serious.
"What if the C.D.C is still up and running?" Rick looked at Brie and I mockingly smiled at him. He is serious.
"That's a stretch right there." Shane interjected.
"Why? If there's any government structure left, any structure at all, they'd protect the C.D.C at all costs. Wouldn't they? I think it's our best shot, shelter, protection" Rick started going on and on about how safe it could be.
"Okay, Rick you want those things, all right? I do too okay? Now if they exist, their at the Army Base. Fort Benning." Shane obviously had very different views.
"100 miles opposite direction." Brie tapped her foot and thought.
"That is right. But it's away from the hot zone. Now listen to me. If that place is operational, it'll be heavily armed. We'd be safe there."
"The military were on the front lines of this thing. They got overrun we've all seen that the C.D.C is our best choice and Jim's only chance." Rick defended his side.
"You go looking for aspirin, do what you need to do." Daryl looked down and backed towards Jim. "Someone needs to have some damn balls and take care of this damn problem!" Daryl yelled as he got his pickaxe ready to swing into Jim's head. Rick clicked his gun up to Daryl's head ready to shoot, while Shane moved in front of him.
"We don't kill the living." Rick pushed out his words and Daryl glared at him.
"That's funny comin' from a man who just put a gun to my head." Daryl immediately sought the irony of Rick's words.
"We may disagree on somethings, not on this. You put it down. Go on." Shane kept calm. Daryl slammed the pickaxe into the ground and stormed off without a second look. Rick took Jim into the RV and we all went our different ways. Shane walked over to Brie and they got on, cleaning up bodies.
"What do you think we should do?" Brie looked up at him as they pulled Ed's body into line with the rest of our people's. Daryl was hitting holes in heads with his pickaxe again.
"I don't think the C.D.C is safe but Fort Benning its a bit of a stretch ." Shane looked at her as they went to Glenn's car to discuss with Rick.
Carol watches Daryl pickaxe Ed's head but walks up to him and stops him "I'll do it. He's my husband" She swings the pickaxe down on Ed's skull repeatedly and all of her anger against her abusive husband is let loose.
Andrea hears Amy breathing. On the ground, Amy begins to stir. She opens her eyes "Amy. Amy, I'm sorry" Amy reaches for Andrea. Her eyes are bloodshot and she moans and paws at the air "I'm sorry for not ever being there. I always thought there'd be more time. I'm here now, Amy. I'm here. I love you". The minute Brie and Shane got there she could see Amy's legs kicking and her trying to bite Andrea. Brie grabbed her gun and stepped ahead of Shane and Rick. They walked towards them and at the same second Brie reached them Andrea fired a shot into Amy's head.
The survivors stage a funeral. Andrea and Dale are carrying Amy's body and putting it into a digging hole. Andrea is crying. " I can do it. I can do it. I can do it! I can do it"
Later on Shane see's Lori outside the RV. She was with Rick talking about how Jim was and what their options were. His fever has worsened they needed to decide something and fast. Rick walks off to do what he was doing when Shane walked up to Lori. He hasn't spoken to her since she revealed that she might of been in love with him. He needed to break the awkwardness "I need you to help talk some sense into Rick" Lori crossed her arms "Look, this C.D.C. thing, Lori, it's a mistake. You're backing him?"
Lori sighs "What else would I do? He's my husband"
"Look, it may be time for you to play the dutiful wife, but you can't tell me that fixing your marriage is worth putting people's lives at risk" he agreed that she wanted to make her marriage work but not at the cost of peoples lives.
"I think folks around here can make up their minds without bringing my marriage into it. It's a habit you need to break. And because I am making my marriage work again, you regretting the decision you made about us?"
"There was no decision to begin with. Rick's back, you can now be happy together that we both know he's alive. Why ruin your marriage or mine and his friendship over the choice we made when we couldn't even think right?
"What if I had married the wrong man?" Lori questions as Shane put his hands through his hair.
"You didn't have these feelings for me Lori before all this shit happened. One mistake we made and you want to throw your whole marriage we make. If you aren't happy in your marriage then end it. But if you do then you should know we will never be together. I made one mistake by Rick, I am not doing another. He deserves better if you are thinking all this. So my advice is don't lead him on, cause he could find happiness somewhere else"
Rick looks over at the intense conversation his best friend and his wife were having. He thought he'd try and ease the tension by walking over "What's going on?"
Shane looks at Rick as he stands next to Lori, watching him put an arm over his wife's shoulder "Just talking about my need for a plan, man. So what is it? Are we leaving or not? Maybe y'all just want to stay here. We could hang some more tin cans"
Rick shakes his head "We can't stay here. We both know that"
Lori cuts in "I was just telling Shane I think we should trust your gut"
Shane nods, and smiles at Rick "Let's go do our sweep" Once Dale, Rick and Shane come back to the camp from their sweep in the woods, Shane calls the group over "I've been thinking about Rick's plan. Now look, there are no guarantees either way. I'll be the first one to admit that. I've known this man a long time. I trust his instincts. I say the most important thing here is we need to stay together. So those of you that agree, we leave first thing in the morning" The whole group look around at each other, wondering if this was the best decision to leave camp.
The next morning we officially decided to go to the C.D.C, Shane gave in and the group listened. "Alright everybody listen up!" Shane called as they stood around their packed up vehicles. "Those of you with C.B.s, we're gonna be on channel 40. Let's keep the chatter down, okay? Now, you got a problem, don't have a C.B, can't get a signal or anything at all, you're gonna hit your horn one time. That'll stop the caravan. Any questions?"
"We're uh... we're not going." Morales looked around at the group and sighed. Silence filled the air and Brie nodded. "We have family in Birmingham. We want to be with our people." Morales' wife spoke up.
"You go on your own, won't have anyone to watch your back." Shane spoke up before Brie could.
"We'll take the chance. I got to do what's best for my family." Morales looked at Brie and she felt herself tear up a bit.
"You sure?" She looked at the entire family.
"We talked about it. We're sure." Morales looked at her and she sighed wiping her eyes. She wish they would stay with the group but if they wanted to find their families who were they to decide otherwise.
"Alright, Shane." Rick looked at Shane and they discussed a gun. Pulling it out and handing it to Morales.
"Thank you all for everything." Morales' wife smiled and hugged Lori.
Brie stepped forward and looked up at Morales with tears in her eyes. "Guess this is goodbye?" She says as he pulls her into a hug.
"I have a feeling, we'll meet again." He whispered into her ear before she lets go of him.
"Channel 40 if you change your minds. All right?" Rick says.
Morales nods his head as Carol takes her daughter in her arms. Morales, his wife Miranda and children leave as Shane walks up to Brie "What makes you think our odds are any better?" She shrugs her shoulders as he puts a hand on her shoulder.
"Come on. Let's go." Shane called out as he pulls Brie with him as they walked to his Jeep. "You can ride with me" They got in and waited for everyone else to pull out.
Lori gets in the truck with Rick, Carl, Sophia and Carol "Why is Brie going with Shane" she asks as looks out the windscreen at the jeep that Shane and Brie were in.
"I don't know. Maybe he wanted someone to keep him company" Rick shrugs as he puts his seat belt on while Lori follows suit.
"If that was the case he could of asked Carl or me" she suggested as Rick raised an eyebrow.
"Why would he ask you?" He questions.
"I don't know? He knows me longer, Brie's a stranger to him. He could of at least asked Carl" Lori stutters trying to think of reasons.
"Maybe he wants to get to know her? Would that he such a bad thing? Rick asks as he watches his wife stare at the jeep. She thought to herself that it was a bad thing for Shane to do.
Dale is driving his RV, while Jacqui takes care of Jim, who is in pain and Glenn is next to Dale. Rick is driving a car with Lori by his side, Carl and Sophia on the backseat, followed by Shane's car, T-Dog's car with Andrea, and Daryl's car with a motorcycle on it.
On route to the CDC, the RV's radiator hose bursts. The hose in the RV broke again, out of duct tape and out of options. Shane and T-Dog went up to the nearest gas station and found some supplies as well as duct tape to jerry-rig it even more. While this was all getting done, Jim decided he wanted to stay, we leaned him up against a tree and they parted ways.
The caravan arrives outside the compound. Surrounding the building are a lot of corpses, as well as swarms of flies. Rick's caravan approaches the CDC, where hundreds of bodies lay dead on the ground. The group quietly approaches the building.
"No ones here!" T-dog said as he looked around.
"The shutters are down. Someone got to be here." Brie pounds on the shutter while Shane delt with the commotion. There were walkers coming our way.
"This is a dead end." Shane looks at Brie as she pounds against the shutter.
"What are we going to do?" Carol was crying holding onto the kids.
"She's right. We can't be here, this close to the city after dark." Lori was looking for answers.
"Fort Benning, Rick. Still an option." Shane pleaded
"Oh what? No food, no fuel, that's 100 miles." Andrea looked around while people held their guns up.
"125 checked the map." Glenn stated as he got anxious.
"Forget Fort Benning we need answers tonight, now!" Lori yelled and Brie banged again.
"We'll think of something." Rick was panicking. Brie kept looking at it as we all backed up. Rick was too. Then the camera, it moved.
"It moved. It moved"
"Rick, it is dead, man. It's an automated device. It's gears, okay? They're just winding down. Now come on" Shane says trying to pull Rick away. Rick pulls away from Shane's grip "Man, just listen to me. Look around this place. It's dead, okay? It's dead. You need to let it go, Rick"
Rick slams on the shutters "I know you're in there. I know you can hear me" Shane tries to drag him away, with the help of Lori.
"Everybody get back to the cars now!" Shane orders the group to go back.
Rick pleads to whoever was inside "Please, we're desperate. Please help us. We have women, children, no food, hardly any gas left"
Lori grabs a hold of Rick and tries to stop him "There's nobody here"
Rick pulls away from Lori "We have nowhere else to go" Rick pounds on the door "Keep your eyes open. If you don't let us in, you're killing us! Please!"
"Come on, buddy, let's go"
"Please help us. You're killing us! You're killing us! You're killing us!" The group is just about to leave when the door to the CDC opens, drowning the survivors in light.
