#3. 4x02 The Other Side (Extended Scene)
Another thank you to my beta!
I loved The Other Side from the first moment I watched it. I know some think Jack acted way OOC during the episode, but I think it showed a side of him we don't like to acknowledge. Sam's reaction to him mirrored the audiences perfectly, but I always thought they ended the episode too soon. Here's my take on what could have transpired on that ramp.
"You killed that man," Sam said in a harsh whisper as she stood facing her CO on the Stargate ramp. SGC personnel moved all around them, the typical chaos of a mission ending early; however, for Sam, the world stood still. Jack O'Neill had killed a man without remorse.
"You want an apology, Major?" Jack raised his eyebrows haughtily; the judgement on his face sickening her. She'd never known him to be cruel. She'd never seen him display such heartless brutality.
"Of course not," she bit back, dropping the honorific she'd become accustomed to adding whenever they spoke. "It's just—" she couldn't find the words.
"That man was nothing more than a cockroach. A racist wolf in sheep's clothing," he leaned forward and growled the words harshly, but quietly in her face. His eyes narrowed, but Sam saw something else in their brown depths. Remorse. Pain. Regret. But before she could comprehend the small glimpse into his soul, he spoke again. "A quick death was too good for him."
Sam took a small step back, shocked by the waves of hatred radiating off of him. "But you're better than that. Better than him."
"That's where you're wrong, Major," Jack scoffed and straightened. "I'm a vicious bastard. Everything else is just an act." He sidestepped her and started walking down the ramp, leaving her staring after him.
Short, I know. But it is the weekend. Another one is coming on Monday.
