Author has written 3 stories for Harry Potter. Assorted commentary: The Snape-doesn't-teach-people-anything trope: "Midnight came and went while Harry was reading and rereading a passage about the uses of scurvy-grass, lovage, and sneezewort and not taking in a word of it... These plantes are moste efficacious in the inflaming of the braine, and are therefore much used in Confusing and Befuddlement Draughts, where the wizard is desirous of producing hot-headedness and recklessness..." -Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix I've seen this done, where Snape doesn't teach people anything about Potions ingredients, or where Snape doesn't teach theory well or at all. (And usually this is the basis for kicking Snape out of Hogwarts or something... because first year indy-Harry doesn't kill people.) On the contrary, though, we have this passage. Not only that, but also Slughorn is not that different within his classes, having them brew potions (but maybe his attitude is better). We don't know whether Snape just prefers to have students study theory outside of class and makes them do actual work inside the class, making most of the only time students have to brew potions, but he does give some long essays which the protagonists complain about. All we really know is that he favors his house a lot and verbally abuses Harry (this last part is probably the only canonically justifiable reason to kick people out. Of course, you can have an AU). This, of course, doesn't mean I find Snape to be a good person (canonically, anyways). My Stories: AMC?I: What happens when you give the hero a couple of advantages and then begin to pile adversity onto him? Strange negotiations lead to manipulations, which lead to counter-manipulations and crazy stuff. And Voldemort does what he wants, when he wants. Try it out! The Realities Duology: Read my two stories, Fractured Realities and Mutable Reality, currently updating! The first is about alternate realities and the second is about time-travel, both in hopefully unique ways. They're not too long, either. Seventh Iterate (title uncertain): Hopefully upcoming. We'll see. All I'll say is that it relates to time travel, and absolutely not in the usual fix-it (or even mess-it-up) fashion. "Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing." --1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Arguably the intended theme of the Harry Potter series. |
