AN: Thanks to everyone who has been reading these! They've been so much fun but I promise that I'm already working on the next chapter of As Potter is to Snape for anyone who is waiting on that :)

This one is Severus and Remus in 6th year. Right after their first Summer as brothers.

Also, today is Professor McGonagall's birthday!

Day 4- Regret

"Remus, I said I was sorry," Severus said as he moved from where he had been sitting on Remus's bed to stand beside the other boy's desk. "I really do regret letting you take the blame."

"And I said I don't want to hear it," Remus said stonily as he turned another page in his Potion's text.

Severus sighed. "Would it make you feel better to know that I didn't mean for it to happen?"

Remus narrowed his eyes and slammed his book shut. "Just which part wasn't supposed to happen, Sev? The part where you stole the fireworks from my dormitory? Or maybe it was the part where you spelled them to go off in the Great Hall just as Albus was announcing that dinner was in honor of her birthday? What about my favorite part where you knew that they knew those fireworks belonged to me and that they had already told me to get rid of them? Merlin, Severus, you bloody well knew they would think it was me! And then you just stood there while they lectured me for something you did!"

Severus at least had the decency to look ashamed at his brother's words. He ducked his head but looked up at Remus through the long strands of inky black hair. "Well, when you put it like that."

Remus scowled. "How else should I put it?! One of the fireworks flew into her birthday cake and exploded! Now I'm grounded for the weekend thanks to you. Last weekend was a full moon and now this weekend I'm stuck back at home while you get to stay at Hogwarts."

"Okay, so aside from you being the one to get into trouble for it, all I wanted to do was get you and your friends back for telling Mary-Ann Smithers that I fancied her. She's done nothing but follow me around all week."

"Mary-Ann is a very nice girl," Remus replied calmly.

"She's twelve, Remus!"

"Yes, well, there is that," he said with a grin. "And that was a prank that never would have happened if you'd stop being so stubborn and actually let me tell people that we're both adopted. If they knew we were brothers or even just friends, they would leave you alone."

"Pity from your gang of Gryffindor's is the last thing I want."

Remus groaned before standing up and crossing the room to his door and holding it open. "If there's nothing else," he said cooly, "I've got a weekend full of studying to get back to."

"Do you want me to tell them that it was me?" Severus asked in a huff.

"Don't bother. It wouldn't change anything because I'd still be in trouble for not getting rid of them in the first place."

"Oh, come on, Remus, don't you think we fight enough at school without fighting here, too? I'm sorry I took the fireworks, alright? I'm sorry they blamed you for it, and I'm really sorry that one exploded in Mum's cake. But even you have to admit that it was a pretty spectacular sight!"

"What I think, Severus is that you're a right foul git, and if you don't get out of my room in the next three seconds, I'm going to get into even more trouble for sending so many stinging hexes at you that even Madam Pomfrey can't help you. And that is something that I won't regret!"

Severus waited for only a second before quickly walking past his brother. "See you Monday."
