814 Full Alert

Jack O'Neill came into his house with the week's groceries and found the former Vice-President, Bob Kinsey sitting in his living room drinking the last of his good scotch. And 5 days later World War lll was narrowly averted.

Kinsey, that great patriot, came to offer his services to infiltrate, or was that reinfiltrate, the Trust. The Trust, it seemed, had other ideas. They knew enough not to trust the egotistical self serving Kinsey.

Though members of the Trust had set out months ago to spread the symbiote poison far and wide to bring down the Goa'uld empires, they were, in fact, caught by the ones they were trying to kill and implanted with symbiotes. Now with Kinsey, newly implanted with a Goa'uld symbiote, they hatched a plant to defeat the Tauri.

General O'Neill gave orders to the members Of SG-1. Teal'c was sent to the Prometheus to find the Alkesh. Carter was tasked to develop a program to improve the chance of Prometheus detecting the cloaked ship. And diplomatic Daniel was sent to Russia to smooth ruffled feathers. He also had an ace up his sleeve.

The Trust, these men, formerly have used any means to obtain alien technology to protect Earth. Now implanted with Goa'uld symbiote were using their knowledge of Earth to cause her destruction. Their devious new mission was to cause the Tau'ri to destroy themselves. And poor righteous Kinsey was implanted and sent to Russia to cement the idea that the American government had been compromised by Earth's enemy. General Kiselev, who's influence extended over most of the Russian military, himself was a host. Distrust escalated until all of Earth's governments, thinking the other had been compromised, were at Defcon 1. O'Neill was at his most focused and serious, he knew war here on Earth and did not want it to break out where the only result would be is total mutual destruction.

From Osiris' former Al'kesh the remaining Trust members were orchestrating the crisis as the Prometheus hunted it.

Daniel managed to beam Kinsey out of the Russian prison onto the Prometheus. But the former Vice-President eluded them and ringing onto the Alkesh.

It was Carter at the SGC who saved the day merely by noticing a simple detail, a man without his glasses. It took both General O'Neill and Colonel Chekov to convince the president of Russia, Mikailov, that Kiselev was compromised and along with the Goa'ulds of the Trust had engineered the crisis.

The Earthside Goa'ulds were hunted, those on the Al'kesh were blown out of the sky and all the nervous nations stood down.

Only one loose end, one loose end no one knew about, was left to possibly foment trouble in the future. The Goa'uld that inhabited the former American Vice-President Bob Kinsey escaped the Alkesh before it was destroyed by the Prometheus.

After all the phone calls were made and the reports written, Kerry invited the General to her hotel suite for dinner. It was easier there to chat without worrying who might hear what.

Kerry had made it clear, as she enticed him out of his clothes and into her bed, this 'relationship' - this was casual. He agreed, the job would always come first. He wanted it to be strictly professional on the base. He didn't want everyone there up in his personal life.

She was younger than Carter, just by a few years. And like Carter was driven professionally. But she wasn't Carter. He didn't think it would last. There were only two women he truly loved. Of course that doesn't count the adolescent soul crushing romances that bloom and fade almost over night. He loved Sara, his wife, his former wife, the mother of his son. She was remarried and happy. And the other woman was soon to be married, married to someone else.

So maybe this would be good while it lasted. Maybe it would get him through the wedding without making a fool of himself or worse. And if he didn't get too invested maybe it wouldn't hurt when it was over.

Maybe he had a bit too much to drink, more than he should have and shouldn't be driving. It was his excuse and he was sticking to it. After the excruciating 4 days, or was it 5, since he found Kinsey in his house, maybe it was sheer exhaustion and every drop of adrenalyn was rung out of him. They fell into bed and he hoped he didn't disappoint. She did seem thoroughly satisfied.

He was so tired, with so many concerns of the past few days, he found it difficult to sleep. The flashing neon signs from stores across the highway made their way into his dreams as he finally drifted off.

He woke suddenly with the memory or was it a dream clear in his mind.

He didn't know why the planet with the mesmerizing light show was brought to mind. They were at the shore yelling at one another, he and Carter. He'd be damned if they weren't seconds away from having sex on the cold, damp sand on that dismal shore. That night she came into his room and climbed in beside him. He tried to resist, sort of. He didn't know why it affected her more. Body mass? She had been there longer but just by a few hours - he did leave to bring the blood samples and bring Daniel back. He suggested they turn the damn thing down a notch and she said "in the morning". Not a night he'd soon forget - yet totally dream-like - almost something that happened outside of himself - rolling around with a beautiful woman in his arms in a decadent Goa'uld palace, high as a kite.
