Since I had invited Klaus into my house before, I knew I couldn't leave Rebekah there. Despite the fact I'd put up a vervain barrier which vampires couldn't cross, as well as a wolfsbane layer for werewolves, he'd figure out a way to get in somehow, and my parents were nice enough that they didn't need to be compelled to invite someone in, so I added another layer of magic to basically keep anyone with ill intention out. It was magic that drew on nature, requiring me to plant certain herbs in order to keep the spell active but once the array was set, it was flawless. It also meant I couldn't bring Rebekah there, so I had to figure out somewhere else to hide her.
After hours of discussing and deliberating, we decided that the safest place for Bekah now was probably with Elijah, so we got in contact with him and the moment we had his location, I took Bekah to her house and acted as a bodyguard as she quickly put together some things to take with her before she had to go. "It's only until Klaus calms down. I'll let you know what's happening in town, but you should probably lay low for a while." I said to her, giving her a long hug as we said goodbye. "Here, I made something for you."
Pulling back to reach into my pocket, I pulled out one of Bekah's necklaces that I'd picked up from her room. She frowned at it in confusion, holding out her palm for me to drop the pendant into her grasp. The silver chain held a medium sized letter 'R' for Rebekah, plain and simple yet nice. "I spelled it for you, it'll protect you from someone who wants to hurt you. It'll let you know when someone with bad intentions is near you." I explained to her simply before helping her to put it on as she sniffed, touched by the gesture as she gripped onto the pendant and looked at me adoringly.
"Lia I…" It seemed like Rebekah had a lot she wanted to say, and I didn't want to say goodbye anytime soon, but when her head suddenly snapped around and we found half a dozen hybrids coming into view, we realised that we were out of time. I guess Klaus figured we'd eventually stop here for Bekah's things.
"Go, get out of here." I urged her, stepping forwards and flexing my fingers in order to loosen them up.
"There's too many…"
"I'll be fine. You just get out of here Bekah. I'll give you a head start." As the six hybrids all snarled and bared their fangs at us, yellow eyes flashing I gave Bekah a confident grin over my shoulder. "I'll see you soon." Nodding her head, Rebekah hurriedly got into her car and I spelled it into invisibility with a snap of my fingers, giving her a clean getaway so that no one would be able to follow her in the car until she was past the border of town and the spell was set to fade.
Meanwhile, I had all these hybrids to contend with, and I had no idea what kind of order Klaus had given them. I was hoping that it was a 'keep her alive' kind of deal, but I wasn't going to bet my life on it. They rushed at me, diving forwards and tried to grope for the car as the engine roared and Bekah peeled away with a kick of dirt from the unseen tyres. Sidestepping the first hybrid, I released a powerful burst of magic which knocked them all flying onto their backs and I immediately then started to grow roots out of the ground, magic controlling the rapid acceleration of growth in order to wrap them up so securely, not even their superhuman strength could help them break free.
I got most of them like that, though a couple of them broke free before I could get a proper hold. Those two came at me with another snarl so I created a ring of flames around me, lifting the wall high so that their direct access to me was cut off before the fire began to twist, bending into a spiralling cyclone before I then redirected it into a ball before me, holding my hands like claws and grasping to keep hold of the magic before I launched it at one of the hybrids. It struck him full in the chest and knocked him out cold, leaving me with just the last one.
They hesitated, figuring that maybe it wasn't such a good idea to try and take me on directly, looking to the smouldering guy as well as the others who were either locked on the ground or being suspended by broad armed roots that were steadily continuing to cocoon themselves around the bodies. "You sure you want to try me?" I asked, brushing my nails against my jacket with a calm demeanour.
"Niklaus ordered us to retrieve you and his sister."
"Well, guess you've already lost one, and I'm not somebody you could ever hope to beat. Let's see, how shall I deal with you?" I wondered aloud, starting to prowl slowly as I swirled my hand to pull at the wind which pulled the leaves from the trees and I made them dance around us until a constant stream of air circled around us with the leaves fluttering within. "I could maybe use you as a lightning rod, that sounds interesting, or maybe I'll slowly sink you into the earth and bury you alive." I suggested, snapping my fingers and pushed my magic into the ground to make it go as soft and loose as sand, making the hybrid yelp as his feet suddenly dropped down and the earth swallowed his ankles, making him sink steadily. "Of maybe I'll just pull the air right out of your lungs and let you suffocate to death. That sounds tricky, like a challenge. Shall we try?"
Reaching out my hand, I made the threat with a tone of complete sincerity, like I was really going to do it. Thankfully the guy believed my bluff and begged me not to kill him, that if I let him go he'd take a message or something back to Klaus. "Hm, I guess that works too. Okay then, how about this? You tell him that if he has something he wants to say to me, he can damn well come face me himself instead of hiding behind his little pets." Grinning brightly, I patted the guy on the cheek then wished him luck digging himself free as I then snapped my fingers, releasing the magic so that the wind settled and the earth stopped trying to eat the poor guy whole and the roots disappeared back underground, leaving the hybrids all groaning and totally wiped out less than a minute of trying to fight me.
I feel like such a badass right now. Walking away with a spring in my step and my hands tucked into my pockets, I headed back home figuring that I no longer had anything to worry about. I mean, Klaus can't get past the gate to my house so there's no way he'd be able to get in, my parents had protective spells on them, and no one can take me on anyway. Hell, maybe I'm the most powerful being in the whole world right now. Maybe I should conquer the world, it'll pass the time for sure and it would give me a kick to see Klaus's expression if I ended up on top of the food chain, taking the spot he'd so desperately wanted his entire life.
He'll be mad at me anyway. I mean, first I stole his sister then helped her escape, then I kicked his hybrids' butts, and now it was like I was giving him the middle finger. Guess all that time bonding had now become a total waste, we were right back to the beginning, only this time I'd interfered. It doesn't matter. So long as I can find that immortal before everyone else and bury him into the depths of history, then I don't care about whose toes I step on in order to reach that goal. Despite not liking getting involved too much, some things were just too dangerous to let be, and that immortal was one of them.
Equal in power to me, but with far less restraint and no moral compass to keep him in check. That was just a recipe for disaster, and I wasn't about to let that happen. I mean, what's the point of being awesomely powerful if you're not even going to be a badass every now and again?
