"So the witch is missing, huh?" Hayley said quietly as she came towards Bekah and I, the both of us having been rummaging through old chests looking at more dresses and costumes for the festival, though I had since abandoned the search, both in order to rest and wonder where Davina had disappeared to.
"Walked right out of the front door, apparently. Know anything about it?" Bekah asked but Hayley shook her head, not having a clue.
"Maybe since she found out that the Elders are dead, she figured she could go out and have some fun." I reasoned, thinking it over in my head as I sat on top of a closed chest with one leg hitched up. "Can't say I blame her. First she was cooped up in that attic and then she was dragged over here and passed into Klaus's company. If I were her, I'd bail as soon as I could too. She's just sixteen, let her have a little bit of freedom."
"Is this why you're refusing to do a locater spell on her?" Hayley asked and I looked at her, so she gave a guilty smile. "I overheard Elijah and Klaus talking about it. Klaus seemed pretty mad."
"Yeah well, he can suck it. He can't control Davina just because he wants to make use of her. I'm sitting out on this one. I'll find her after it gets dark out, if she doesn't show up before then, or if I hear the witches have grabbed her." Totally calm about the entire situation, I was enjoying watching Nik get all ruffled up after I refused to do as he wanted. Sure, I could all the feelings in the world for him, but like hell I'll let him tell me what to do.
"Maybe she figured out that everyone was just using her and that's why she ran for it." Hayley suggested as she folded her arms, looking over to where the guys were gathered in conference. Nik and Marcel at the moment, but I knew that Elijah was with them also.
"Yeah well, I've never been a fan of the boys club. Just wait, Elijah will join them and the three of them will be impossible." Bekah sighed, finally giving up in her search for a dress in order to stand upright. "Used by the witches, lied to by Marcel, manipulated by Elijah, threatened by Klaus. Just like a modern day Casket Girl."
"Are you talking about Davina or yourself?" Glancing at Hayley, Bekah considered it for a moment before simply brushing it off.
"Does it matter? Either way, us girls have got to stick together." Amen to that. "I'm going to go look for Davina as well. It'll be better for her if I get to her first instead of any of them. My brother Nik is on the warpath, convinced she's a threat to our family, and we all know how he deals with threats."
"Keep me updated on what's going on." I said to her as I got up with a stretch. "I'll jump in if things start getting out of hand. Oh, by the way, you might want to start your search on the main street by the bandstand." Smirking with a wink at Bekah, she grinned back at me before vanishing from sight.
"I thought you said you weren't going to do a locator spell." Hayley said to me with a glimmer of amusement, smiling at me also as I shrugged.
"You think I'm going to let Davina run around unsupervised during such a big event where untold dangers lurk around every corner? Hayley, how irresponsible do you think I am?" I clicked my tongue with a shake of my head as I started to walk off. "Besides, I just didn't like the way Nik asked for my cooperation." Satisfied with my answer, I decided that I would go and take a long nap because all this walking around and excitement had me exhausted. "You sure are a handful, little one. When you're older, I am so paying you back for all this fatigue now. I'm going to run you ragged until you sleep like the dead."
Rubbing my stomach with affection, I then went back to my room in order to sleep for a while. The nap was refreshing, and when I opened my eyes again it was dark. My phone was full of missed calls and texts from numerous people, so I groaned. Please tell me the world hasn't fallen apart whilst I was sleeping. Before I could even start going through all the messages, I became aware of something going on outside in the courtyard. A strong pulse of magical energy that was soaring, causing me to sit upright quickly and look towards my balcony before I hurriedly moved over to it. When I got there and looked down, I saw a massacre.
Davina as standing there with Elijah and Nik both down and out for the count, an alarming amount of blood surrounding Elijah whilst Davina faced Marcel who was trying to reason with her, telling her that he cared about her and that he had taken care of her like his own blood, but then Rebekah turned up behind him and stabbed him through the back. Ouch. I forgot how vicious she was. Seeing that things had clearly taken a turn for the worse since I'd been asleep, I quickly scrolled through Bekah's texts to get up to speed as she spoke. "Come on now, love. Don't tell me you were falling for that. Isn't it time for us girls to have a chat?" She reasoned lightly as Davina watched her hesitantly. "Now, that is impressive, and well-deserved, in my opinion. Now, before you turn on me, I have a surprise for you."
From what Bekah had told me, Nik had returned to his old methods in order to get Davina back and had used a friend of hers that she seemed to be very fond of as bait, Tim I think? I guess he's the kid currently sat up on one of the rafters with his violin. That had Nik written all over it. In any case, it seems like Davina had shown Nik exactly who he was dealing with, and then she'd turned on Elijah and Marcel as well, or at least, she was getting to Marcel until Bekah showed up. Deciding that I should probably join in at this point, I gripped onto the balcony railing then flung myself over with a smart lift, using magic to descend down gradually before stepping onto a table, using a chair as a step then jumped to the ground as Josh entered.
"Josh, what are you doing? Get out of here." Davina looked to him with worry as I headed on over, stopping to check on Elijah and waved my hand over him, using magic to pull the blood out of his lungs so that he could breathe and recover slowly. Meanwhile, Rebekah had moved and grabbed Josh by the throat in order to make a point, Davina gasping with fear for her friend as Josh started to panic.
"Now, if I were Klaus, I would rip Josh's head from his neck, feed it to a nightwalker, and that would be the end of your friend." Bekah informed the both of them, but focused primarily on Davina as I reached her, placing my hand on her shoulder. She jumped violently but relaxed when she saw it was me, her hand rushing to grip onto mine as she then turned back to Bekah. "But hurting people is such a boyish thing to do, like how Klaus compelled your fiddler on the roof, and while I am many things, I'm certainly not my brother." Letting Josh go, Rebekah then turned to the guy still sitting on the rafters. "It's okay, Timothy. You can come down. No one is gonna hurt you."
"He told me I couldn't climb down off this beam." He being Nik. Of course he did. We will definitely be having words later.
"Then don't climb, silly! Am I the only smart one in the room? Jump."
"Do you want to catch him, or shall I?" I offered but Rebekah told me to save my strength, flashing me a smile as she strode on over to stand underneath where Tim was perched before he jumped off, falling down but before he could land, Rebekah caught him neatly then set him down on his feet, safe and sound. "Go on." Giving Davina a nudge, she then rushed to Tim as he went to her, the both of them meeting one another as Tim breathed frantically.
"Davina, how did you do all that? How did I even get here?"
"I'll explain everything, I promise." Davina looked so relieved to see Tim was okay that I couldn't help but enjoy the view, hands deep in my jacket pockets as Josh slipped on over to my side, probably figuring he was safest with me than anyone else. "Why are you doing this?"
"Seems to me that you're the one holding all the cards, but you don't know who to trust. I've just proven that you can trust me. Now I'd like to show you one more thing. Won't take long. You can bring your friends." Inviting everyone to come along with her, Rebekah took off and I followed after her, stopping only when I noticed no one else had moved.
"It's okay. You guys are safe now. Davina isn't the only one with power around here." I promised then gestured with a tilt of my head to signal that they should all come. "Unless you want to be around here when they wake up?" That got Josh and Tim moving, hurrying to follow as Davina fell into step beside me. "So where'd you run off to today?"
"I just wanted some time alone to enjoy the festival. I didn't know everybody would go crazy like that. I didn't mean to cause all this, I just…"
"Hey, you don't need to apologise for anything." I assured her, giving her shoulder a squeeze as we continued to follow after Rebekah. "You're a kid who wanted to go out and have fun. That's totally cool, but maybe next time give me a heads up so I can at least cover for you. I should have probably warned you Nik is a little…insane. There's no other way to say it. He's just totally nuts."
"But you still like him." I cracked a grin.
"Well, I have the benefit of being able to deal with his tantrums and violent impulses without becoming a casualty. I get to see more sides of him than you do. Come on, let's go check out what Bekah wants to show you." With my arm around her, Davina slipped a slim arm around my waist in order to hold onto me, like she felt comfortable with my presence and that made me exceedingly satisfied and even a little proud. I never really used to get along with kids before, guess I'm getting better at it. I'll chalk it up to the little one getting all my maternal instincts in overdrive.
